Paprika update: she's sleeping out with the adults in the sunny coop!! Her flock wouldn't take her back, but the grown ups all don't seem to mind her at all!!! Plus Seven is watching out for her. Just like he did Udon. 🤎

Love how you figure it out as you go, me too...one season under our belts with heritage Blue Slate and White Holland birds. Hatched 90 birds last spring and sold most of them as poults, now growing out some for Thanksgiving dinners. Got a new larger tom to breed going forward! We have loved documenting on UA-cam and watched so many of yours for info and encouragemen!! Thank you.

Ohh goodness, good luck to you and your baby! The selenium and the nutritional yeast absolutely work wonders! Paprika is all grown up. Ironically, SHE is a HE, but he's still a love and has had no problems since!! Please keep me updated???

When can I put my turkeys out in a pen?
They are sensitive little creatures. If they don't have a mom hen to keep them warm at night, you have to keep tapering down their heat until they are feathered out, or your night temps stay warm enough. I just put out my 5 week olds and we had a wicked cold snap and I ended up panicking and running a light out for them as they were huddled and obviously cold.

Sexing young poults is tough. In the boys, look for chunkier legs, bigger over all stature and bigger, blockier heads. Strutting can be a sign of a male, but girls often will strut too.
