Great job Gabe! I been using this technique sense tricoats came out in the 80s😂
You’re explanation was right on. Great job!
One small tip, change your hoses regularly if you do a lot of pearl whites like me. They break down from the bake cycle and can put small specks of black in your white base and it will drive you nuts.
I know this is an old video. But, dude, that tip about doing a wet bed after your first coat of base is GENIUS! I just tried it out on an 800j Cadillac. It worked so well I didn't even bother with a transition coat. Thank you. You are the man! I've sprayed so many cars that stupid color. I wish I'd have gone through your older videos sooner. Would have saved a ton of headaches. Lol!
Right on BROTHA!! That this exactly how pearls are to be blended. This is how I have been doing it for years with fantastic results and now teaching these guys. KEEP IT UP!
+Isaac Diaz wow thanks brother!!! I really appreciate your awesome coments ! Thanks!!!
Top video and thankyou for helping us painters get better
You say you dont know it all but your drive to perfect your craft and professionalism will even out what you dont know.Well done my friend and keep up the good work.
Much love I truly appreciate your comment

+Jaime Rodriguez thanks man! I'm glad I can help!
Amazing video. I like so much when I have to paint pearls.

+Eddie Cordeiro THABK you very much!! I'm glad!!
That gm three stage off white pearl is one of my favorite colors too
👌Banging job man, Everydays a school day!I learnt something new😁

😍😍😍
2018 Toyota Camry color code 089 platinum white pearl. Face pretty close. Side looks to light. Any suggestions
Good job I uesd that some trick. With t-490 as a wet bed.
Very good 👍
Used your transition coat technique today on Peugeot code Kwe. Worked a treat. I've put a post on Facebook motivated painter's for everyone to check out. Thanks for the helpful tips gabe 👍
+ccr coachworks b amazing man!!!!! In so glad it helped!!!!
With 800j in envirobase I sometimes put a little transparent black in the mid coat and also do mid/base mix to get a good match. Tough color though. GOOD JOB your blend looks beautiful!!!
Yes I have done that it works !!!!!!!😍😍😍
jonah cassidy what’s number of transparent black????
Quick question so I noticed that u give it a pass going from bottom to top than go back down tight after do u count that as one coat?
Looks good. Pretty much the same process I use except I spray top down in a downdraft booth. White is my least favorite color to shoot. Well until I have to blend a pearl on top of it. The uninitiated painters have no idea how little detail you can see in the booth. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the footage.
+Shain Andrews I know! They could be such a pain to spray sometimes! Thanks for the support !!
good job
Nice job - gives me faith to try a JDM Toyota blend (057).
I always get worried to break up panels when I clear for fear that when I overlap, I’ll get runs… seems you don’t have that concern?
Anyway nice video. I subscribed
Sprayed my first complete Pearl job in 1971. Today's materials are so much easier.
Amazing !
Nice
good jobs
HELLO FROM CREECE .NICE JOB ...
+kwstas avramidis hello!!!! Thank you for watching please help me spread the word on the channel so more painters can join the motivated painters channel! O theos na se evloyi
Good explanation bud
Thank you!!
when you do you're spray outs to match the tri coat do you include you're transition coat in with the spray out?
+Jason Goldie yes because I want it to be exactly the same
hey nice video, so you apply white basecoat, then your pearls (mica powder blended into clear) being the second coat, and then finally clear coat. Does that sound correct??
We don't use mica powder for log envirobase it's called a mid coat like I show in the video
once again excellent video man. is that 2pack paint? what size tip do you use for pearl? is it same as for metallics ?
+redbach23 thanks so much!!! Yeah I use the same usually 1.2-1.3 tip 28 for base and 18 for control coat 😀
Hey Gabriel so do you put the first coat of paint with just base then transition? Or do you start covering with the transition right a away?
Yeah just base then tarnsition
Nice work. I like your methods.Have you any advice on using blending thinners?Do you mix it with your paint or spray it clean around the repair edges?
+Jonathan Brett thank you!!! I don't use blending thinners but what I do is I mix the ground coat with the pearl coat and that softens the edge so it makes for an easier blend of the base
Ground coat... that another name for base coat?
nice video,
+patrick quimmel thank you!
Gabriel when is going to be more avaliables paint suit on the web please
Great job ! I really enjoy your videos , keep up the good work !! I'm from Montreal what part of Canada are you from?
+B Kataro thank you! I appreciate that! I am 30 mins from Toronto in Oakville thanks for watching!
Hey can I ask what the difference is between that blower you use from iwata and the one made from uxell. I was about to purchase one but I saw it was 39$ on amazon and the uxcell one was 4$? The look the same I’m assuming one is better just curious if you know why. Thanks man your vids are entertaining you got a new subscriber 👍
Hey brother ! I don't sell those anymore but some of those cheap one no joke where contaminated and gave everyone fisheyes. Never the green ones I sold. But now I got much much better ones that cover double the arrea and are much durable. You can check them out at motivatedpainters.com
How do you prevent having streaks of the tack rag when tackling between coats ?
One don't tack or keep tacking until they are gone
I'm new to this bit massively interested, could you please tel me what is a control coat?
Check the silver playlist it will help understand much better my friend
what works very well for me with this color is using dirtier x13 and making it 2:1 for coverage coats.Essential you take 2 parts of ground to one part of pearl 10 onces and 5 onces. it seems to help with blends then make three spray outs for your pearl effect 1 coat 2 coats, and 3 coats to get your desired yellowness to match the rest of the panel. 800j can get blotchy sometimes when your putting your 2:1 on and the factory always has the same problem. after you get your coverage control coat the 2:1 and as far as the mid coat effect coat it 90 percent overlap and drop the pressure 2 psi from your regular covage coat psi. also 35 prcent reduction on the 2:1 and 50 on pearl you get the best trasfer efficiency that way at least it works for me lol
+Michael Dunlap that's very detailed and helpful my friend thanks for that!!! I'm 100% someone is going to benefit from that! Thanks for taking the time to post a useful comment instead of criticism! That's awesome! 💪👍👊
Painters gotta stick together my boy
Hello . So you add both colors together and it won’t change the color? I’m use to doing bras 1st then the pearl 2nd . So I don’t have to do that anymore?
Make sure you watch the videos correctly my friend you still need to out the pearl color.
Hey...
Nice video. I am in Canada also...
I like your technique, and I'm subscribing!
Explain to me again, how this transition coat works??
You cover your repair area with the base colour, mix the base and pearl coat 50/50 and apply 2-3 coats of that?
+splash just one coat of transition then your regular pearl all it does it softens the blend of the white ground makes it easy 😀😀 hope my other videos on white pearl help 😀😀😀 thanks for the kind words!!!
MOTIVATED PAINTERS
Thank you!
painted this EXACT color today, and i found the ground coat didn't match as well as your coat.... did you have a variant or was it factory 800J?
Yes Darker x34 is a great match
I'm looking to order this same paint to repair some rust spots on rockers and fenders. Is it possible to only spray the small portion of the repair opposed to the entire side of the vehicle? This is on a 2010 sierra, so it's already had 13 years to bake in the sun
It will not look good at all unfortunately
Great job. What clear coat are you using thanks Wes
+Wesley Simm heyoooooi!!! I'm using ppg EC530 normal hardener and reducer
I'm have like one year painting and 12 years paint helper experence. This video I thing help me with white pearl
+Juanito Alimaña I'm so glad man!! Thank you for watching!!!
So do you mix the base and the pearl together and use that as your ground coat. Than apply the pearl over that. What's your ratio mix. Looks good.
+Mark Fernandez hey brother yes I tend to put one coat with the base of covered then mix 70% pearl 30% base. Check out the white pearl playlist it might be helpful!
MOTIVATED PAINTERS thank you for the tips. Much respect from San Diego California
+Mark Fernandez I'm honored!!
What's your mix ratio of ground coat to pearl coat...I usually add 25% to the base/ground coat, but your method seemed opposite. Maybe it works better??
Mostly pearl coat 75 percent
nice wk man
Thank you!!!
Do you tack the transition coat and pearl coat? Or just the base coat around it?
Nope
Hey Gabe , im having trouble with my white pearl . The flop where the old base and my blend meet .. looks white .. am i applying to much base or not enough mid coat ?
Not enough mid coat and also it seems you have the wrong variant
@@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS thank you very much gabe !
There's a few darker variants in the paint manager
Why did you use the same cloth to wipe the plastic and then use it on the panel?
Why did you just blow any dust on you back on the panel?
It's all clean I'm just making sure I clean everything I pretend I'm painting everything g I wipe
You don’t use a basecoat blender when you’re blending colors???
😍😍😍😍😍
so how many coats of regular base, mid base and pearl did you do?
+asheetuglasse one base, one 50/50 base and pearl, and two coats and control coat of pearl 😁
For the transition cost. What percentage of mix did u do. I’m gonna try this out on a 2018 Camry.
Do 80 mid coat and rest ground ciat
On another video you said 50% ground coat 50% pearl for transistion coat. Which is better?
80% mid 20% basecoat 100%%%%
Do you use med or high solid clear and what gun do you like for clear coat.
+Don Rown I use ppg ec530 clear and I use an iwata ws400 13hd 😀
Thanks I use Matrix Med solid reducer with LPH 400, got a tecna pro lite with a the-10 that i have not got to use yet. Nice work, I share your passion for painting.
+Don Rown great stuff!! I'm glad I'm hot alone!
Do you have to sand you basecoat before applying pearl?
Nope
Great job like always homie. But one thing I wanted to get clear about the last pass of the white base. Do you mean you over reduce it just a lil more to do the final blend? Cause that's what I tend to do to my white aswell regardless of it being a tri stage or just a regular 2 stage white.
+VICK. DOGGG sometimes but what I mean on this is I mix 40% the ground white and 60% of the top pearl coat and I blend with that!! So it blends the color very very nicely !!😀
Cuantas manos de perla gabriel
+REYNALDO SALAS viste el video brother???
hi mark antony morris from south africa. i watch all youre videos and think you the best painter. like to meet you some day ive leant so much by you.
im also a spraypainter and would like to work and learn wth you.my dream is to be a master just like you.
Awesome! Thank you!!
I am going to do my first pearl white spotrepair soon, but i always thought that it couldn't be done because you will end up with a halo in the transition zone, due to more pearl in that area than on the area next to it..
But this is not the case?
Watch the white pearl playlist it might help brother !
MOTIVATED PAINTERS Thanx. Got one last question for you. Can you scuff (scotchbrite) your first or second pearlcoat to get some dirt out, and then shoot a final layer?
I don't recommend it
MOTIVATED PAINTERS
Okay thanks. Got the little dirt out of the pearl with tape! (tackrag didn't do it).
Sometimes you can lightly scuff with -1000-3000-50000
How many coats of clear did you use 2 or 3?
+Cc zaragoza is it hard to tell? I did 2 coats of clear
Tacking everycoat. You don't streak the basecoat ?
+Philip Yeung not if you tack very well without missing a spot. The only coat o don't tack is the last coat because of the metallics. Thanks for bringing that up that is very important! Specially on silvers you need to be careful
So you mix both colors together the pearl and base right . And the color don’t change?
No it will not
Are you using water borne or solvent base
Water
Will this work same way as solvent?
+Eddie Cordeiro hey not sure! Only one way to find out!
Yes it will, I do it every day 😊
What varient did you use on this one?
Did you watch the whole video???
I’m the same way I like to start at the bottom and go up!
hi....bro can i ask your spray how much that price canadian money,,,,,,nice work amazing....
+romer alesna hey my friend! What do you mean my spray? How is my spray gun?
i mean, how much price your spray gun,,,iwata , sorry about my englesh bro,,
+romer alesna oh ic! Iwatas are about $600 +
o my god, very expenseve ......maybe i cannot a port that...iwatas.spray gun but anyway bro; all your video really great it's amazing...now i had a idea how to a paint pearl white 'thank for your video bro,,,
If i got it right there's no need to use blending agent this way?
+P3mpi hey brother! 😀 try it out. Ppg doesn't have blending agent not sure what paint company you are using
MOTIVATED PAINTERS i will give it a try. i use ppg too, i used to get like a clear base anto used it as blending agent.
Good job btw keep those videos coming mate!!
+P3mpi oh ic okay maybe you are talking about 490 maybe? I get what you mean now 😀 thanks man!!!
Using the clear binder reduced
The T490 is excellent for blending but stop about 10cm from edges with the T490..spray T490 on blending panel nd then color..do this each coat = excellent blending:)
Wash the primer down with what
+Buckwild 65 prime wash
Abre ya tu canal en español 👍🤟
how much of the pearl do you mix in with the ground coat?
About 80% Midcoast and rest ground
I spray one coat of the transition on everywhere I based and a bit further
Do you ever have a problem with over spray?
Car has spray mask
Gun Psi for pearl?
+Techni Center that's it eh? Just gonna say that? I'm doing good my friend happy new 😊 I soray at 25 then 18
did you plastic off the car? I can't really tell
+andrew chea paper and plastic 😀
Missed a spot on the last coat on the top of the mirror
Thanks never noticed 😘 makes me happy that you watched carefully I need more of that! Keep it up!
Is this water base ?
Yes sir
How much paint did it took you to paint the whole truck?
I do not remember !!!!! Hahaha long time ago but I would mix 6 oz of ground and 12 oz of pearl
Have you ever done a repair without spraying the entire panel ?
Only bumpers and small things
Que Lija usas para blendear en las partes donde no vas a Pintar
+Loki Chad 800-100
MOTIVATED PAINTERS thanks happy new year
+Loki Chad you too brother!!
What varient did you use??
I use darker x38 all the time or x34
Ah, 800j. That color that every time I see one come in the shop I think, boy I hope they give that one to the other painter. Lol! That color is so annoying. Mostly because none of the plastic parts are even close to matching from the factory. And the body is also usually super blotchy from the factory. I'm glad gm has seemed to replace that one with 140x these days.
Terrible!! Hahaha
Hold the phone is yalls booth that bad ass that you don't even have to plastic that entire car without the fear of overspray?
+seth kremis lol no we spray liquid mask on them haha
Wow I wasn't aware there was such a thing. Me and my dad are about to move to a new shop and he's gna buy me a brand new booth nothing as big and fancy as the one you have but it'll be a semi down draft with the cure cycle and heater
I was thinking the same but i have heard of the mask spray
Five coats of pearl hmmm lol jk bro
Why dont you use car bags your getting over spray on the back use ppg car bags
I am ??? I didn't notice 😁. Liquid mask my brother.
Glad you got something out of the video 😋
You talk like BJ Penn.
+Malik Sucks Ass haha na his accent is much cooler
Very good 👍
