The Lego Theme Nobody Liked... Ranking all Lego Castle Sets

- Lego castle 2013 subtheme was disappointedly short in a lot of areas. It was short in play sets with only five (plus two minifigure packs). The theme was short in ideas with generic recycled builds. It short-wired the entire Lego castle themed that spanned 36 years.
I decided to rank this theme and shed some light on the subtheme(not really) and explain how the death of Lego castle may be for its own good...
I find it bizarre that Lego decided to make another castle theme with a lion & dragon faction, instead of simply continuing with Kingdoms, which already featured lion/dragon factions.
I think they were trying to recreate what was popular. I wish there was a new faction
Nobody liked it? This was my favorite thing Lego ever made. I reckon it didn’t sell because knights just aren’t popular among kids anymore.
It truly is hard to tell why castle stopped with this sub theme. Lego lord of the rings was also on the rise during this sub theme’s run
I don’t know as a kid I thought it was the best theme along side Star Wars. Even as an adult I think Lego castle is stop tier next to Star Wars. No other Lego theme is as cool as those 2
castle is what got me into lego in the 90's. I wish they'd bring it back.

I agree with the criticisms about the builds and have heavily altered my own but I love the figures, especially the lion knights and own a fair amount of them
My dad got me every single set back when they first came out. I still remember looking at them in the catalogue and begging him for them, and I can remember playing with them for hours on end.
I had most of the Kingdoms sets before that too, and I always felt like the 2013 prison tower was a major downgrade from the 2011 prison tower, even if it did come with a dragon. Still, I will always treasure 2013 castle for the impact it had on my childhood. And objectively, I think 2013’s king castle is one of the best we’ve ever gotten. For the theme as a whole, it was definitely a good castle to go out on.
I truly feel that this wave gets too much flak, and while I definitely like other castle subthemes over this one, people need to stop calling it, “The wave that killed castle.”

I feel like growing up with a certain wave of sets will make you bias towards them though to be fair. Looking back the fantasy era was king but I grew up with kingdoms sets so I've also been bias towards them

I got a copy right claim for music that I thought was free to use. I made a quick fix that didn’t turn out to work. When I get home I’m gonna need to fix it. Thanks for your criticism tho, I really appreciate and does help me.

It was a good theme, it’s just old people who grew up with the original castle sets who don’t like it, I like it and it’s very nostalgic, I had the smallest set, it was cool, two cool knights, a liked it, it was a good theme
It’s a great point that people are more bias towards sub themes they had personal experiences growing up with. I have people telling me in others vids that castle(2007) is terrible or castle 2013 is the best sub theme. Design wise and playability Lego castle 2013 is properly a better suited line that a lot of older sets from the 80s and 90s with more advanced building techniques and prints.
Those older sets had a different charm to a different generation, as modern castle has a different charm to our generation, as further castle will have a future charm to future generations. Its significance to an individual is personal, buts it impact to
… but it’s impact to community tells a whole different picture. Castle 2013 is a sure polarizing theme. I think that’s the charm about it
It's the same reason they put out a new police station every year. Castle 2007 and 2013 were meant for kids 6 years apart. It doesn't matter if the builds are copies since not many kids are likely to buy both.
@@FitBricks That's their loss if that's what they think about Lego Castle in 2007 because they won't even know a good thing about that year of Castle if one of the Troll warriors if it was real showed up at their doors with a giant club and bonked those haters right in the head XD lol.
I only started getting Lego in 2015, and it was always Star Wars. Nowadays, I wish this theme was available again
It kinda is available with the Creator Castle, Lion Knights Castle and the Medieval Village. You should buy the Creator Castle now because it'll be discontinued in December.

Lego could easily bring back, or rather reinvent existing factions. The yellow/green shield they included in the lion knights castle for example could be a base for a whole faction to be designed after it. And both new and old fans would enjoy it. The Wolfpack had only 2 sets originally. So enough is possible. Just 2 examples.
I was already army building kingdoms lions figs, so when this replaced that theme, I was pissed bcoz the kingdoms line (even the figs) looks way better. So felt Lego went backwards. So didn’t buy any of the 2013 castle sets and seems I wasn’t the only one bcoz they discontinued castle after that year

The lego castle dragons are some of the best lego dragons they made

agreed, even though it felt TLG phoned in this theme it wasn't bad! loved the battle pack, big castle was also nice and the figs rocked

Meh, I never really had a problem with lighthearted stuff nor that I hated that 2013 theme, guess I was just too use to the 2000's Castle theme which I thought was cool even if I never had any of the sets because of the Trolls and Dwarves being my 2 personal favorite factions lol.
this was memorable, i had 2 of these sets and i loved them.
Dont forget sets don’t come in a vacuum. Ninjago already existed and also legends of chima were all amining for the same consumers.
As someone that thought Chima was fun but missed out on the sets?

A few years ago, i think it was 2019, i found a 10 giftcard for some toy store nearby in one of my drawerz so i decided to use it before it expired. I was so lucky to find the gold getaway for only 10 euros, exactly what i could spend

It was awful!! I didn’t get back into Lego until the Medieval Blacksmith. Kingdoms and the Medieval Marketplace got me back into Lego, but the Red Lions and Green Dragons crests are crap. All the Lion knights suck

I strongly disagree. This was my favourite castle theme as a kid. Yes it had a small wave and didnt have any village peasant sets, but I feel like if it had stuck around the wave 2 would have corrected that. Aesthetically and design wise I liked it more than kingdoms, and in some ways I could say I personally liked it even more than the fantasy castle theme too, which I loved, but that's like comparing apples to oranges. I know I'm in the minority here, but I think some people had a bias against this theme from the get go because they were too invested in kingdoms, where as I wasn't, so I saw this theme for what it was without the grudge against it that kingdoms fans had. This theme was small, but it had good character designs and the sets had immense play value! It was a much softer more palatable fantasy, with human villains. The battle pack from this theme stands to be my favourite lego battle pack of all time. It had great possible horses, a dragon, a awesome battle pack, some pretty alright siege engines, secondary expressions on some of the minifigures, a friggin beautiful looking prison carriage set, and it was a step back towards the classic blue lion knights of old. What's not to love aside from the fact that it was a small first wave that never got a second?
I do wonder what a second wave would have look liked. I would want a new fortress for the dragons knight. Another battle back. Some sort of village, a tower. Siege tower, and something of a surprise we have never seen before
