I've got the Night Lord's Castle as a kid on Christmas. Back then here in Eastern Europe it had cost a huge amount of money and our family struggled financially, so it was hopeless to get such sets. I still don't understand how my parents managed to save up to buy it. Got hooked on LEGO since, and I have wonderful childhood memories for it, where I've built sets I did not have with what Lego I had. Now so many years have passed, and I never gave my Lego to anyone thinking that I'm leaving it for my child. I have my own 2 children now. And last year, I with my 6-year-old son built the Castle again. It was so heart-warming and full of nostalgia. Lego helped me develop as a person into ho I am now. Even if I have nothing to do with it (international sales), it helped me to understand there is always a way to achieve a goal - in my work, in life in my relationship. You don't have to always follow by the rule book if you don't have all the pieces. Creative outside the box thinking will always help in life.
In the 90s I had one of the smallest sets shown here, “Skeleton’s surprise”, we didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid, so my parents were never going to be able to afford one of the big castles……. BUT I can’t explain THE AMOUNTS OF STORIES AND ADVENTURES I IMAGINED with that simple set, I remember sometimes I was in school and I was just excited all morning waiting to get home to play with that Lego set… thanks for this, you made me feel something deep inside that I didn’t remember.
I couldn’t afford much Lego as a kid but I had the catalogues, and a box or two of assorted small sets and I’d stare at these castle sets for hours imagining.
I think that was just about every 80s- 90s kid. I was always planning on saving up for some set, and rarely ever did, lol. And now I'm a couple years out from 40! Crazy.
This hits me right in the feels... I used to do exactly the same, trying to build parts of these awesome castles with the few lego pieces I had. Today I could buy whatever set I want, but it doesn't feel the same
Christmas 1995. I got the 6090: Royal Knights Castle from my parents. I still feel the adrenaline rush unpacking the present. I spend endless hours building and rebuilding, thought of epic stories and had a ton of fun with this set. Thank you for remembering me @Bricks Planet
I had almost all from the castle series from the 80s. Due to sickness I had to stay at home a lot and play for myself. Makes me realize how much my parents did for me because we did not have much money. Beautiful to see this now.
I remember very well as a kid how Lego changed completely from beginning of the 90s to the end of the 90s. The sets became oversaturrated with new and "one-time-use" parts like e.g. bat-wings (what i mean by one-time-use is that it's a finished piece with very limited creative use). One set had all of a sudden 20 different colors and shapes. Every square centimeter had something "unique" going in it. I really lost the thrill in building those ...
Completely agree. Maybe because they had a new economic/technical ability to create original pieces they went "crazy". But it feels more like a doll house with unique pieces then Lego.
Basically had almost every set from 82 through 94. Spent countless hours playing legos. Castle sets and pirate sets were my jam for a solid decade or more of my childhood.
I recognize most. I know we have some boxes in my parent's attic, and the rest should still be at my aunt's. Now that my cousins are grown up, I'll have to try bring it all together again and see which ones I can still put together completely.
6:39 still have my fire breathing fortress 7:29 still have my Skeleton surprise 9:01 Still have my witch windship 5:32 still have my wolfpack tower Awesome sets.
Please oh please Lego, bring back these smaller sets! The lion knights castle is brilliant but the charm of the smaller sets giving people a chance to build there own medieval empire is lost these days. Bring back the sets from the 70’s- late 90’s!
I donated all of my Legos from somewhere between 1984 to 1992 sitting in 5 big chests to my nephews. Unfortunately, they have no interest in Lego but only in small, tiny computers and mobile phones when they are blinking and making noise. It is scary seeing them pulling out one of their toys just to leave it alone 5 minutes later so they can grab the next one. My sister and I were completely different. My mother till this day reports that I woke up at 5 a.m. and they had to force me to bed by 7 p.m. and during that time they saw me just grabbing some water and the meals and then disappear into my room to unfold my Lego world.
Thank you for this. I was able to pinpoint exactly what Castle I had. It was 6075 from 1981, those shields were unforgettable to me. That would put me at 9 and I'm 52 now. Where did the time go...
I love how the 1980 lego castle theme had colourful knights, I really think its makes it unique and very recognisable, I also like the 2007 knight miniatures because they look cool.
I blew my first salary on King's Castle Siege cos it was biggest and most expensive set in Toy Store at the time and the little kids were like 😲😲😲 and i was like 😎,than the cute cashier girl was like who is the happy boy and i was like 😏😏My Brother
I absolutely love how the old sets have this straight forward boxart just showing you a plain photograph of exactly what you get. No need for all the additional design bs. 😂
I really loved the castle series. I had so many castle sets and I also built my own castles. Modern day lego sets look boring as hell, there is no sense of adventure in them anymore. I wonder why they no longer produce these awesome castle sets
They revealed a new castle coming in August this year!! Bit over 4500 pieces and has a classic style box to celebrate Lego’s 90th anniversary. Pretty expensive at 399.99 but it looks incredible and it’s most definitely their biggest castle yet! Look up Lion Knights Castle 2022.
I love a good nostalgia trip when it comes to Legos and you over-delivered. My favorites as a kid were the Fright Knights and I’d love to see them make a comeback someday. But for now, I have an unopened Creator 3-in-1 castle that will satisfy my medieval cravings. I bought it for Christmas with two Lego gift cards. Thank you for this wonderful trip down memory lane.
Some of my earliest memories are receiving the 1983 sets for Christmas. I was only three. I had all of those sets, every single one. And apparently I collected every castle set up through 1994. That Royal Knights Castle, that seems to have been the last one I got. I would build it, take it apart, and rebuild it again from memory again and again, just for fun.
Yeah for me it stopped mid 90s. Would love to see a gigantic diorama/museum exhibit showing numerous of these sets in the same landscape going from the late 70s to the 90s. That would have been awesome! :D
In my childhood I remember countless times when I just look these big sets in my local supermarkets and dreaming if I ever had them in my hands. My mother was kind enough and bought me some smaller figure sets. Never big sets, only smallest ones and yes, these catalogues I read many many times.. And now 30 years later I finally bought my first Lego castle ever - that new huge one 😂.
GREAT overview! I could kick myself for passing over so many of the older, smaller sets when they were available. But this is a great inspiration for MOCs. Thank you!
@@nielspetit-jean3443 Lego has sadly skimped on base plates. I relied on them as a kid and my nephews also rely on them today. That's something sadly missing from sets today. Baseplates are a foundation for building, and so many sets today refuse to integrate them into sets to save a few cents...some sets use this lack of a baseplate decently well, such as the Star Wars Battle for Hoth (though the SW sets are not my favorites; i love classic castle and space), but I think something is lost without a full-sized baseplate.
If I remember well, Lego was really struggling to stay relevant back then. But I totally get what you're saying. Especially Knights Kingdom is just grinch to even watch.
I had the original Yellow Castle set, ca. 1980. It was, by a very significant margin, one of my favourite childhood toys! I got a great deal of entertainment out of it.
wow that sounds amazing, would love a re-release of that one. Igot the new Lion knights castle today it is amazing, have you seen that and will you get it? Perfect if you are older and grew up with those castles :-)
Same, I remember building it, and it's still sitting in a box in my old bedroom for my my kids to play with when they visit their grandparents! The only lego set of many dozens I built which survived in its original form.
The 1984 6080: King's Castle was the best. It was a real enclosed castle with a drawbridge and a portcullis! It also had a prison cell!!! As a bonus you could open the walls of the castle to the sides to get a long wall and a better look to the inside.
you could also open the walls in 6073: Knight's Castle wich also had a drawbridge (but no portcullis and no prison (if I rememeber correctly) I had this set twice ^ç^ (but never had King's Castle :/)
I had the 375, the 677, the 6010 and the 6022. So many good memories. I liked it better when you had to build the castle up from standard bricks, rather than large premade pieces.
I remember saving up money as a kid to buy the Black Monarchs Castle at 3:34. Went to the store with the bike to go pick it up. Box was so big it hardly fit under the bicycle straps. Man don't think I was ever happier with a lego box. I also had some of the other stuff from earlier years and later years, but this one was definitely the most memorable.
Amazing collection to look back at given one's childhood has passed for over 40 years now - still brings vivid memories about the beautiful times of poverty but otherwise unprecedented happiness in spite of that 😄
I had the 6090: Royal Knight's Castle seen at 7:45. I can remember the gate house had a little crank that raised and lowered the gate. I spent so many hours playing with that thing.
Thank you for this video! I’m a very sentimental person, and this series has a special place in my heart. I intend on trying to collect as many of these as I can, one day
I still have some of these from the late 80's, early 90's! Probably the best years of my life. Will hand them down to my nephews in the upcoming years, hopefully they'll appreciate them as well 😊
I still have 6075, 6076, 1906, 6090, 6079, 6083, 6088, plus a couple I didnt see on here. Im 42 now and pull these out every year for my kids to play with. This video brings back good memories! Thank you!
I recognize many of them in the 90´s the older ones here in scandinavia as well, and remember how they had a tv showing them built and like a small story about what it was about next to the box. loved toys r us back in the 90´s with N64 games being sold and a kiosk to test out new game for it as well.
aww man, the knights with the robin hood figures, and the white/black bird crest were my childhood. I loved the lego sets of that era. I think I quit playing with lego around the time they had the western/islands/mummy sets. 39 years old now and I still miss those sets.
I love how it builds up more and more with different factions much like an actual medieval setting would with King Leo finally emerging as the dominant force
I was a Lego Castle enthusiast as a kid in the 1980s and 90s. The sets I personally owned... Jousting Knights (1984) Knight's Challenge (1988) Twin-Arm Launcher (1988) Forestmen's Hideout (1988) Black Monarch's Ghost (1990) Knight's Stronghold (1990) Forestmen's Crossing (1990) King's Mountain Fortress (1990) Black Knight (1992) Wolfpack Renegades (1992) Sea Serpent (1992) Wolfpack Tower (1992) Black Knight's Castle (1992; also called "Dungeon Master's Castle" in some early catalogues) Black Knights Boat, Ghostly Hideout, and King's Archer (1993, purchased as the Value Pack) Magic Shop (1993) Dragon Wagon (1993) Fire Breathing Fortress (1993) Royal King (1995) Skeleton Surprise (1995) Royal Drawbridge (1995) Royal Knight's Castle (1995) After 1995, I hit a less fun age and had to deal with being a teenager, thus I had to abandon the more important things in life, like collecting more Lego sets. I still have most of the pieces of my old sets. Maybe I'll rebuild them someday...
I reckon I have 101 of those sets! (Up to 103 with the new ones this year.) I have most "proper" sets post 2000, though not all the polybags, and never cared for the action figures. Fair few from the 90s and very late 80s, but was a kid back then rather than a collector! Best are medieval market village, the dwarven mine and the fire breathing fortress!
84-92 seemes like the golden era to me. Most of those where slightly before my time but I remember wishing I had those instead of the lion knight and dragon knight era stuff. I had a few Dark Falcon and older stuff and just wanted more of that.
I got that first yellow castle for Christmas and remember building it with my older cousin since it would have been challenging for me at my age at the time. Great memory!
0:37 I have that. 1:38 I have that. 1:43 I have that. 2:34 I have that. 3:02 I have that. 3:29 I have that. 3:35 I have that. 3:57 I have that. 4:31 I have that. 4:40 I have that. 5:31 I have that. 5:36 I have that. 8:19 I have that. 21:00 I have that. 21:29 I have that. 22:21 I have that. 22:36 I have that. All built up. I let out all the smaller ones here. There was a lot trash in the 90s, but I see, I have to grab some of the good stuff from 2010 and following (Kingdom, Castle).
Brings back memories of playing with these sets on my buddies scuffed up hardwood floors no lamination left whatsoever from all the kids and dogs playing on them LOL. We used to make out own tabletop (floortop) games with them similar to warhammer 40k but really basic dice and measuring tape etc... sigh*
I like how the same set is re-released over the years, you can almost image the creative branch acting lazy and hoping their boss won t notice xD We see, like, 5 times the treasure cart, the dragon boat, or the wizard shop
I own 6075 castle, 6049 Viking Voyager, 6054 Forestmen's Hideout, 6057 Sea Serpent, 6090 Royal Knight's Castle, and maybe some others that I've forgotten. I had at leaste one dragon from somewhere. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
@@BricksPlanet They are such cool sets. Castle and pirates were the best growing up. Sadly my pirates stuff is scattered to the four winds. My brother and I combined have some 600 or so castle minifigs. We had some epic battles, lol. We even built a replica of Helms Deep from LotR that was about the size of a twin size bed. Those were the days.
I had 6081: King's Mountain Fortress in 1990. It was my 10th Birthday. I knew is was waiting for me downstairs. I woke up when it still dark out, ran downstairs and brought the package back to my room. I had it built before anyone had even gotten up that morning. What a time to remember.
Xmas 1988 - 6066 Camouflaged Outpost. I had received some smaller castle sets, but this was the first complete large item I had as an 8 year old. Peak childhood. Still love LEGO but the feeling of opening and playing with that set cannot be topped. I still have it complete.
I've just finished building the new castle with my daughter (31120), and it's brilliant! So many funny little details, the castle seems so alive and lived in. I loved this series when I was a kid (in the 80ies), and this new set pulls all of my strings. It's hard to tell who enjoyed the build the most, me or my daughter. Probably my all time favourite (except maybe Millennium Falcon, but that set is still on my todo-list).
I got into the castle sets in the mid-80s. I still have them and love them. Thanks for the video! I just also realized how many classic castle sets I'm missing!😥
YES! That's the one I had, the Night Lord's Castle. Been trying to figure this out for ages! Just had a son and I'm hoping to dig it out and rebuild it with him in the years to come
*Forestmen? Wolfpack? Falcon? Other? Which of the factions is your favorite?*
I think you missed Wolfpack tower but I might have missed it
Wolfpack 100%
Forestmen...childhood memories for me
Probably Kingdoms and Castle
Probably the dragon knights👍

I recognize many of them in the 90´s the older ones here in scandinavia as well, and remember how they had a tv showing them built and like a small story about what it was about next to the box. loved toys r us back in the 90´s with N64 games being sold and a kiosk to test out new game for it as well.
Thank God this shows up on my feed... I have all the collections from 1989 to 1990. Such nostalgia
aww man, the knights with the robin hood figures, and the white/black bird crest were my childhood. I loved the lego sets of that era. I think I quit playing with lego around the time they had the western/islands/mummy sets. 39 years old now and I still miss those sets.
Lego definitely peaked in the 90's
I had 6061 Siege Tower as a young kid. Absolutely loved it and it instilled a fascination of all things medieval for many years afterwards.
I love how it builds up more and more with different factions much like an actual medieval setting would with King Leo finally emerging as the dominant force
I was a Lego Castle enthusiast as a kid in the 1980s and 90s. The sets I personally owned...
Jousting Knights (1984)
Knight's Challenge (1988)
Twin-Arm Launcher (1988)
Forestmen's Hideout (1988)
Black Monarch's Ghost (1990)
Knight's Stronghold (1990)
Forestmen's Crossing (1990)
King's Mountain Fortress (1990)
Black Knight (1992)
Wolfpack Renegades (1992)
Sea Serpent (1992)
Wolfpack Tower (1992)
Black Knight's Castle (1992; also called "Dungeon Master's Castle" in some early catalogues)
Black Knights Boat, Ghostly Hideout, and King's Archer (1993, purchased as the Value Pack)
Magic Shop (1993)
Dragon Wagon (1993)
Fire Breathing Fortress (1993)
Royal King (1995)
Skeleton Surprise (1995)
Royal Drawbridge (1995)
Royal Knight's Castle (1995)
After 1995, I hit a less fun age and had to deal with being a teenager, thus I had to abandon the more important things in life, like collecting more Lego sets.
Thank you! These were my all time favorites. I can still remember getting some of these sets for birthdays, etc.
84-92 seemes like the golden era to me. Most of those where slightly before my time but I remember wishing I had those instead of the lion knight and dragon knight era stuff. I had a few Dark Falcon and older stuff and just wanted more of that.
The ‘Castle’ series was my favourite. Just everything about it was perfect
My brother collected the castle set up to about 1996. What a fun nostalgia trip thank you!
I had some of the Kings toys and the forestmen as well thanks.
Man.. As a kid who loved medieval Lego's and grew up in the 90's, seeing these early 2000 sets is painfull, these kids had it rough.
This video is really something special! It has become one of my favourites!
I got that first yellow castle for Christmas and remember building it with my older cousin since it would have been challenging for me at my age at the time. Great memory!
OMG it's like the credits rolling on my childhood/teenage years.
Incroyable le nombre de figurines qu’il y avait par set, dommage qu’il n’y en a plus autant
Seeing these brings back memories of collecting these in the 90s.

All built up. I let out all the smaller ones here.
There was a lot trash in the 90s, but I see, I have to grab some of the good stuff from 2010 and following (Kingdom, Castle).
2006 and 2007 are pure nostalgia for me. I'm pretty sure I got all the '07 sets back then. The big castle is still put together up in my folk's attic.
Early 90s sets with Robin Hood, Wolfpack, the Black Castle with its 2 knights in full armor will always be it - for my memory.
when I was 6, I had 70404! I really was happy, when my parents gave it to me))) Oh, dear nostalgists)
😂😂😂😂😂
Beautiful nostalgic trip. Thank you! BTW. The new LEGO Castle is sick!
Great series. I remember that 84-87 era from a few sets .
Man Knights Kingdom makes me nostalgic 🤩 Falcon FTW
Omg, childhood memories. The things I've ever wanted. I think I had the 6039 Twin-arm launcher and the 6043 Dragon defender.
My parents got me 6081 for Christmas, I have so many fond memories of playing with the set.
Thank you for this video, all the best ❣️
Brings back memories of playing with these sets on my buddies scuffed up hardwood floors no lamination left whatsoever from all the kids and dogs playing on them LOL. We used to make out own tabletop (floortop) games with them similar to warhammer 40k but really basic dice and measuring tape etc... sigh*
For a moment I was a child again… thank you for reminding me of happier days
I like how the same set is re-released over the years, you can almost image the creative branch acting lazy and hoping their boss won t notice xD
We see, like, 5 times the treasure cart, the dragon boat, or the wizard shop
What a useful video! Just what I was hoping for. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Is it sad I still have all my sets from the late 80’s and 90’s and still play with them? Wolfpack Tower for the win!
Lucky guy you are! I have only couple Castle sets. Wolfpack Tower is great and Forestmens!
@@gopooalreadyplease5842 That sounds great!
It’s not sad lol. I just got the 78 castle today for FREE from my uncle
I purchased some of the ghosts recently. They were my favorite part of the castle sets when I was a wee kiddo. 👻
I had 6081: King's Mountain Fortress in 1990. It was my 10th Birthday. I knew is was waiting for me downstairs. I woke up when it still dark out, ran downstairs and brought the package back to my room. I had it built before anyone had even gotten up that morning. What a time to remember.
Jesus I remember having some of those late 90’s early 2000’s sets as a kid in the early 2000. Damn this makes me feel old & nostalgic.
I just built my emperors stronghold set today after 22 years. A few pieces missing but still looking like new after a cleaning. So much good memories
Sounds great! What is the set number ?
@@BricksPlanet 3053
@@duhsbo Ah ok. Great :)
Very comfy vid that brought back some memories. Thanks!
1:43 OH I still remember getting that set for Christmas! Boy the excitement went off the chart!
I have a small LEGO set from 1986-amazing. Since I started to play LEGO in like 2000+ it's even more amazing.
Oh man this is a trip down memory lane!
Miss these. I had all the Knight's Kingdom sets, good times.
So cooool :) You should try know The Lions Castle 10305. It's really amazing!
@@BricksPlanet Yes, I know :-D
That’s the thing to build those again you need kids as an excuse to your wife 😉
I got into the castle sets in the mid-80s. I still have them and love them. Thanks for the video! I just also realized how many classic castle sets I'm missing!😥
Strong memories, I owned a lot of these sets.
YES! That's the one I had, the Night Lord's Castle. Been trying to figure this out for ages! Just had a son and I'm hoping to dig it out and rebuild it with him in the years to come
First one I got was the 6020: Magic Shop from 1993. I was six at that time...
Aww ..god 4 heart to see.🤗💫Was born in 78 nd was playing with some of these )
I FINALLY HAVE LEGO 6090 YAY. Which set is the best in your opinion?
This is so difficult but I really like castle 6086
Wow. I had forgot about some of these even existing. Thanks for bringing back good old memories :)
Glad you like them!
As a lego kid born in 1985, this is pure nostalgia for me. 😢
my older brothers collected the castles from 1989 - 1995. i played with them and in 2000 i got that big castle. my last and favorite lego castle :D
Still got a bunch of that from sets in the late 80s and early 90s. Dragon castle is the standout
I got the 1995 6090 set for Xmas. Great childhood memories. I got the pirate ship set the next Christmas. I’m going to look that up now!
