  • The Lego castle 7090 Crossbow attack released back in 2007 for the fantasy Era line. This small battle pack packed a punch with 3 minifigures, 54 pieces, and a great build with a fun play feature for only $6 back then( about $9.29 now). This set was ideal for building your Crowned knght and skeleton armies for how realitivly cheap the cost was.

    Need more Lego Castle sets!!! Especially low end battle packs and playsets. A $400 castle is nice but not realistic for many people.

    It's a bit bare, but still a nice value set. I wish we get more small sets like this. (or a tiny bit larger for a little bit more money)
    I'm not an armybuilder, I buy the minifigures that fit with my builds and tend to not overspend on that by a lot. I also don't collect minifigures at all. If there is one I like and buy, it is usually because I have an idea where to use it.
    Still having these kinds of sets out there is great, it also contains a double crossbow and a skeletal horse, which are accessories that might be potentially more expensive otherwise, if they hadn't been in many cheaper sets.

    Dang, lego horses sell for more these days than that set when released! I totally wish Lego would make battle packs for Castle again, but at the same time, I'm not too upset, since we have PaB :)

  • @TX_Blake
    @TX_Blake 3 місяці тому +3

    The point about PaB being a good substitute for battle packs is a strong one that I can’t argue with. For my part, the real blank spot is in mid-sized sets. Castle fans could really use stuff in the $30-$50-$80 range.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 3 місяці тому +2

      There are 3 issues with PAB:
      -Not every Lego piece goes on there, so you will have to rely on sets or 2nd hand parts to get some of it, which is usually more expensive because of that.
      - There is no discount on PAB that you have in regular stores. This is the real reason LEGO can get affordable, in larger retailers on the shelves, you can get 25% or more discounted boxes, making these parts really affordable and available. 6 dollars is cheap, even though it would be more than 10 if adjusted for inflation, but having a heavy discount is what really helps.
      - The PAB stock can be really bad, on several occasions there were a ton of popular parts, like the sheep that sold out often, taking weeks to restock.

    • @TX_Blake
      @TX_Blake 3 місяці тому +1

      @@pinobluevogel6458 all legit points there. I’m not saying PaB is perfect, but it generally does deliver when it comes to army building. In addition to the points you made, I could offer that unlike on-shelf sets, you can order exactly what you want, in the quality you want and not have to pay for a bunch of extra bricks that you don’t.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 3 місяці тому +2

      @@TX_Blake Yea that makes perfect sense. Especially for minifigures and armybuilding in particular, it is the most reliable, cheapest option. Especially if you order over a certain amount so the shipping costs are free.
      I think it is a waste to buy bricks that you cannot use, as you have to store it somewhere, so in that way ordering from PAB is superior. This can be done on Bricklink too though, at better prices for most parts. I would want some middle ground though, for example if lego would decrease some of the prices on less popular pieces, that would balance out the extreme wait times for the packages to arrive.
      I also just love the value of a set that you can build according to instructions, it is a very fun process, especially for larger builds. That on its own is worth quite a decent part of the price for me, even if I tear it down straight after ;)

    Nice review! I partially agree with you. However, I don’t get the hate Lego gets nowadays. Of course it would be nice to get smaller sets. But if you want to get Castle-related items like helmets, torsos or other stuff, you can easily buy them on PAB. That way you get exactly what you want, be creative with it, and you’re not stuck with other items you probably don’t want more than one of (in this case the ballista).

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 3 місяці тому

      Not to be overly negative, as I love LEGO and I do love that PAB exists, but the part selection on there is really limited. I have made only 1 PAB order for minifig parts and accessories this year, to be included with a larger set to skip on the shipping costs. Meanwhile everything but minifigs and accessories is much cheaper on Bricklink, so you still need to rely on that for nearly everything.
      I don't think it is 'hate' very much, but the fans are greatly and justly disappointed because for a lot of popular themes, there aren't any cheap sets. Mainly Castle, which is extremely popular, has barely anything on the shelves and the only things that are, are over 100 dollar sets. That is just not feasible, nor can you really afford to give that stuff to your kids outside of very special occasions.

      i feel so shafted, everyone keeps talking about how good pick a brick is, and it doesn't deliver to my country...i'm stuck to buying official lego sets to get the minifigs and they really don't do small medieval sets anymore...at least i got a few falconers from series 24 and a goatherd from 25, if they keep releasing 1 medieval'ish minifig per series i'm gonna have an army in a few years lol

    This theme passed right under my radar in the middle of my dark age. It would have been perfect for me too.
    I don't understand why creating accessible sets that encourage multiple purchases is so bad for business. Lego is so sadistic with castle fans these days. You want a castle? You get one, and it costs $400. You want a smaller castle set? Spend hundreds on non-castle sets within an arbitrary blink-and-you-miss-it time window. Just want one knight minifig, huh? Here, gamble on a blind bag with all odds against you.

      This sums up the issues with Lego and Lego Castle in particular quite well.
      I feel like a lot of people missed the window where Castle wasn't just affordable and available, but also had a lot to choose from. Currently you can build a basic Black Falcon, Lion Knight, Forestman and a few Vikings on PAB and maybe a few villagers. Where are the other knights?
