I was never under levelled because I killed everything and everyone I saw, wasn't really "assassin's creed" as much as it was "one man genocide"
it still has the best stealth system out of any game in the franchise imo I like how u can do it either way
@@notrenbanney2450 nah it was shit, like you cant stealth kill guy with 2 levels lower than you if he has that gold marker. that was so annoying and frustrating.
hereyougo dummy invest into assassins abilities like critical assassinations you can one shot everybody
@@RainCloudVideos i did but it doesnt alwey work. The system is so fucking wonky. I swear I’ll hold onto the button, but’s it acts as if I did nothing, or, it’ll just to regular one, which, I don’t even understand the point of. There’s no reason why you would want to do it, other than it’ll be less likely to fuck you over. This just seems like an unnecessary annoyance. Has anyone come up with strategies on how to deal with this?
Sounds like an ac game
Microtransactions should not be In a single player game
they're literally just extra stuff that you can get for free. It's not a big deal.
It is.
they should not be in a full priced game period it was a mechanic for free to play mobile games to make money yet they now put them in full priced games to bleed young ppl dry and now they make more money from them then they do the sales of the game thats why they will never stop which is bad because they now get lazy making games and release the same shit because they know they will make there money back with you guessed it microtransactions its there safety net EA use it cause lets face it there not able to make a good single player game or multiplayer game for that matter lets why they said single player games are dead even those you have games like spiderman god of war gta 5 single player game not online last of us to red dead 1 and 2 and guess what NONE of them have microtransactions because all of them are games where they put effort into making a good game which means more ppl spent there money on it and where as all these other companies or the publishers have no faith in there game so they slap that safety net in cause they know they will make there money back with that so who cares if not many ppl buy it right
here's a thing. dont like it. dont buy it . says ea
They should not be in video games in general
Little known fact, 300 was based on Leonadias' Crippling addiction to totinos' pizza rolls
@ΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ ΤΟΛΗΣ r/whooooooosh
@ΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ ΤΟΛΗΣ I know English might not be your first language. It was a joke.
literally youre the only person I come to before I buy a game.
You should also do acg and skill up, theyre both great reviewers and dont sell out or suger coat stuff
Worth a buy
Getting an opinion of a video game from one source is pretty flawed.
Me too
@@noahdejesus5601 yea let me go to IGN to see why they gave it a 10/10
I love how people are telling Joe that this won’t get any worse or impact the future games, when Joe said years and years ago that micro transactions were becoming a problem and needed to be stopped, and people said the same shit to him, and yet here we are lol
TheDeadFrozen those people are called idiots
Reasonable people should not have a problem with micro transactions if its tacked on as an after thought. When you start making game design decisions based off of how they will be implemented is when it starts causing serious problems. These people seem to think it's still an after thought...
Keith Salmon II I prefer to think of them as sheep
Everyone´s face got tired, so they accept all that crap.
Either we have microtransaction or the prices for games go up. Literally everything has had a price increase from gas to milk. Phones cost more, movies cost more, games stayed the same price yet they cost way more to make. So i think microtransactions are fine for the most part. The only thing assassin creed odyssey did wrong was time saver microtransactions because now that the game is longer people think ita making you grind more. Angry Joe is praising Ac4 yet it had the same time saver microtransaction but the game was smaller thus making it "less grindy". I can tell you right now its not that big a problem it really isnt. I have played idyssey for 50 hours now and not once have i feeled underleveled. Sure some quests are level gated as well as areas but I can keep advancing in the stroy and get back to those later. 1500xp for completing forts?!?!? thats a damn lie. I have gotten upwards of 15,000... I dont have the boister and i only had a feee one for 2 hours so i have seen both leveling with and wothout the booster and honestly i didnt see the difference cause i never had a level problem.
To sum it all up and clarify... I am fine with miceotransactikns in games cause they help devs with cost and us from having to face an inevitable price increase. Yes AC Odyssey does push it with boosters but it isnt new as that was in ac4 yet no one complained then. I would prefer odyssey didnt have it but in the end it doesnt really matter as the game wasnt built with this in mind. its a time savee to help you beat the game fast and be overleveled. Actually do some research instead of bitching. People thar have this or 5 -10 levels over the recommended level. if it was built with this in mind wouldnt they be at the recommneded level?...
This review was fine, but I vastly prefer your typical structured and rehearsed format. This format might be fine for rapid-fire reviews, though!
We would also like more Angry Reviews, but I would certainly prefer this over no review at all. He can't have time to make angry reviews for everything.
prismaticcrow this
yes
Tai Y. That’s why wait and make it
joe's mike was too loud... fix your shit.
watching this in 2020 , and it's hilarious to see how much joe was right about microtransaction ! cough "ghost reçon" cough
And because of this rampant microtransaction I started to just look some retro games.
@@hilmansudirman9857 same, they were soo satisfying when you can search the entire map for an armour or weapon, whereas now, u gotta search the store page and have your credit card
@@rajeevkunapareddy1182 💯💯💯💯
he is correct on principle about Microtransactions, but his comments about the game being grindy or that you must use boosters to get to level 50 are flat out wrong. The guy who said "arena grinding" was smoking something. I never once had to do anything like that.
@@Katie-hb8iq depending on when you played it they may have patched it, this was 4 years ago
The cult of kosmos is by far one of the greatest ideas ever. I really hope every new game generates the roles of people around you, a cultist can be a coward or a cultist can be a simple guard you wouldn’t suspect being a cultist. The clues were cool, and the twists and turns are amazing in base game, but Ubisoft accidentally made a new featured genre.
By far it was so cool just coming upon some random person in the world and then turning out to be a cultist especially when some missions had you being hired by said cultist members without you knowing
Joe is so right about the microtransactions. Those defending them are only cheering the worsening of a game
Eatmyass I was like that before because I really love the franchise. Haha. But now that I finished it, I feel meh. Not as engaging and exciting like the first ac games. Don’t get me wrong, I love the new things in Odyssey but I hope they get better at the story next time.
Hey dumbass u dont need to buy them you can get all that stuff for free just buy playing the game so if u dont like it dont buy it.
@@anthonypinkney1877 yea untill game mechanics are deliberately designed to encourage microtrans to get even the moderate amount of enjoyment a game offers.
@@joshuathomas5626 its not makeing you buy the stuff A. You can get that stuff fir free vua doing missions B. If you kill mercenary they give legendary stuff so no need to buy the stuff in the shop so if you think you need microtransations to be good at the game you must be pretty bad
G1r4ff35 4r34 c001 ok u have no idea what I'm talking about
Guys - you have to get on those mics. If I crank up the volume enough to hear the other two, Joe's voice will obliterate my eardrums.
This video is a year old.
Amen
Kawaii Stefan they still have these issues.
thats the thing why is the other 2 even there to begin with
Unknown Unknown because Joe didn’t finish the game. They did. They can add more to the review.
Something that was DEFINITELY added after this review is that you can apply the appearance of ANY loot to ANY equipped items. It's worth mentionning because if you like the look of that lvl6 hunter armor, you can apply it to your current lvl50 armor and benefit from the same stats, it'll just be cosmetics. Same for swords, bows etc. It is such a goooood feature, thank you for that Ubi.
@HERETIC GAMER447 It's not

The game feels like an mmorpg, in terms of the scope of content, leveling and quest. Theres a lot to explore and see but its skin deep.
Yea, I was really enjoying the game until the cracks started to show. Started getting bored
It’s important to mention it’s just a different game with the title assassins creed slapped onto the front any true fan of the franchise knows the franchise has been dead since origins
@@darrellbrown633 Nah, Origins was still about assassins and its damn better than 3, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate and Odyssey combined. It had at least a compelling protagonist since Edward and Ezio, compelling open world, soundtrack, atmosphere, needed weapon variety, needed crouch button, etc.
And this is coming from someone who puts the Ezio trilogy the best.
And before you claim that your precious AC Unity is a true AC game, it's not.
@@memecliparchives2254 agree orgins was cannon i don't know in which assassins creed game was it but it ezio i think found the body of amunet (aya) orgins is about how the assassins creed began ubisoft had no reason to go to odyssey and Valhalla they don't matter in the assassins creed plot really if they made odyssey and Valhalla into different game that is about a spartan going around Greece or a viking try to get their revenge it would have been cool and we could even have gotten a better story from them as well if odyssey or Valhalla (but mostly odyssey since it's plot doesn't even aline with the ac lore while Valhalla had some assassins creed relation) wasn't associated with the assassins creed universe
I feel the the same way about the game . It just lack some of the core mmo systems. And some life skills .
I would like this type of review for titles you don’t have the time to do a full production on.
JPLaws Agreed.
agreed just a movie style review
You guys should re-review Uncharted 4 that game is a masterpiece and maybe Nate's last Uncharted game.
Agreed as long as these type of reviews are not constant
I feel like as long as there is awsome parody intro then this type of review is fine
that "crappy" opening was some of the freshest Angry Review content! creativity on fleek Joe and AJ. I bet its hard keeping the fresh ideas coming on the regular, but know that your fans appreciate it. even the ones that bitch (i've been there before, i'm sorry to say). you guys are insanely talented.
I love that intro who could hate it damn
It only went on a bit too long
By far the funniest one is the opening to the detroit: become human review. I had to pause the video because there was so much pain in my sides.
Were they sponsored?
Loved it also
One thing I'd say in its favour is that, as a classicist, I'm very impressed by some aspects of their reconstruction of the Greek world. There are some things they could have done better without too much effort (e.g. the inscriptions in temples), but the architecture and geography are keeping me playing on their own. Obviously things are simplified, but some of the better-known areas (central Athens, Delphi) are done very well.
Joe is a blessing to the gaming community
that was one of the best opening scenes ever

Not gonna lie, I'm disappointed this isn't a regular Angry Joe game review. However, having said that, I really like this setup and I hope this replaces the Rapid Fire reviews.
we want the real angry reviews, joe just got lazy af.......
Talha Nusaer not true .. joe not lazy .. f urself
I agree. Just sit some friends around a table, and talk about a game for a while. I think it would be a great format for reviews that are not full Angry Reviews.
Talha Nusaer well angry reviews are fun when the game sucks, but a good/average game... a review is meh
@@paladindarc Doom review is one of my favorites.... And it's a kick ass game
Micro transactions are dumb. I should be able to find or obtain all of my gear and skins in the game
Ryno Lemons you can, the problem is that they’re boosters.
You can, but good look getting the materials. This is why the micro transactions are necessary.
The best mount in the game will cost you Helix credits. Why is it the best mount? You can jump off cliffs and it opens its wings, which makes it kind of glide down so it doesn't stagger or take damage like the other horses.
Maybe the unicorn does this too with its magic, but I haven't tried it.
u can get all the skins in the store in game.. its RNG though but its all there eventually. thats why people are lot forgiving on microtransactions for this game. as no one in right mind will buy those skins or boosters.

just went to level 65 for the third time, love this game, fun and easy just moves along.a real joy to play
Angry Joe never fails to make me smile and laugh.
he should do his movie reviews like this, it's better when they're able to face each other as their talking, rather than sitting there looking around awkwardly while one person speaks
arcticridge he have to edit this when changing to different people.
@@wilkinlow even I could do that.
AGREED
Good point! More engaging, more reviews sprinkled in like this would be good, one guy mentioned rapid reviews, I think you found a new avenue with this style!
The negative of that slo mo shit, brought out new positives!
Personally, I don't really like this setup for the angry reviews, but I think this would definitely work for Rapid Fire videos or angry rants.
Angry Joe just said that he was going to scrap this review but he decide to do it in this style just so he can give his quick review of the game.
I played the game organically which is the way it was meant to be played. I used the mode that makes you have to investigate where to go next instead of just having a marker. If I came across content or missions that were interesting or noticed something on the map that caught my attention I would go to it. My level always felt in sync with the game. I didn't buy boosters or anything from the shop at all. So far the game does not feel like a grind.
26:50 Final Verdict
Thx man

Thanks
Thank you
wtf are you talking about joe???
that intro was GOLD. Your eyes really sold it.
havent laughed that hard in months.
The shittyness has a quality all on its own
Agreed. The Angry Joe Show has always had some pretty crappy effects, but the fact that the effects were even there was the most important part. I laughed a ton during this intro, and that’s because we still get the context of the gag and it’s just something that’s supposed to be silly anyways.
Intro is meh
I rewatched the video twice for the intro makes me laugh everytime XD
Joe should know that crappy skit is the reason why this channel rocks!!!!!
Shout out to the Brink Opening
Exactly, low production quality is what made UA-cam great for years! Remember stuff like Arby 'n the Chief and Red vs Blue (the pre-animated stuff)? That stuff was great and stuff like that crappy skit at the start of this video is lacking a lot these days from big UA-cam channels
filthy casulzz
I just bought this game a couple of weeks ago on heavy sale with the season pass. So far, these transactions dont seem like an issue, and the game isnt a grind. It seems like they ironed out that issue. Along with difficulty, there is level scaling, which affects XP gain. I have been enjoying it a lot
I hit max level the other day without even touching the microtransactions then again I play a ton of RPGs so my first thought was to power level so eh 🤷♂️
Wait there’s micro transactions??
Britannia what happens at pirate island?
I still play the game.. i clear out every outpost and quest marker and am still under leveled after putting 80 hours into the world besides main missions
A casual player might use them, or a child. That's the problem. Just having them in the game is sickening just make the game more expensive
I want to see a south America AC game, with the Mayan civ, Inca, Aztec, etc, that would be amazing
It already exists. Go play Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
That can't be. It's already clear the hidden ones were created in ptlomeic egypt which was the ancient form of the assassins, the start of the creed. Now these people keep going back which makes no sense because this is about the assassins creed vs templars and they are getting out of hand instead of just making a new IP of an ancient rpg which would give the player more room to play in instead of playing a fake story that did not happen in cannon because the fact that you can make decisions and choose a gender it's dumb because the story is already written... so you are not exploring what actually happened instead you are making a inaccurate version of it.
Mayan and Aztec are not South American
Joseph Joestar nun but fax
Tomb Raider? Where you play as a white girl killing these people? No thanks
Use this instead of rapid reviews. Keep the original format.
Delrith does Rapid Reviews. They aren't replacing the AJSA format, it's just more content. If you don't like it then leave, it's as simple as that.
Rapid reviews suck.
You can't be ignorant to why they use Rapid Reviews right? You surely must be able to understand it. Angry reviews take time and a LOT of it.
This doesnt take as much effort as a normal angry review. Theres no skits, no cgi editing. Just edited talk show format. The effort to make this is somewhere between rapid reviews and normal reviews.
I think rapid reviews is good for lesser known games, it cover games joe would never have the time to review in its normal format
That intro is exactly the type of goofiness I appreciate from your show, Joe. You don't need some slow-mo camera to be entertaining. I'm more disappointed with this podcast format. It's good, but it feels less focused. It feels like this should be one of those post-review conversation episodes you used to do.
I agree with this and he really doesn't do his video game reviews that often anymore
I miss the old Joe.
Well there are 4 big games that are put this month, and he said he definitely wants to take his time with red dead and i'm sure that's going to be a classic angry review
Very true, hopefully it's a one time thing
Yh he needs to give these podcast-type reviews a different name. These arent “angry reviews” at all.
the actual Assassin’s Creed series ended at ac Rogue or Unity. Everything after should be it’s own series or not canon.
31:00 You got Horizon Zero Dawn for that for the most part.
old style much better for 'core' reviews. This format would be ok for rapid fire tho
Absolutely agree. This format is lazy as fuck and should be restricted to piece of shit rapidfire reviews.
yeah :( im really sad that the COD review was on the same style...
@@ppsarrakis If you watched his videos until the end, he specifically says that this type of review is most likely just going to be for October, or Broketober as he put it. That is almost as bad as asking what a song name is and it being in the description.
100% agree.
@@user-jo7jo6ss3v For pointing out the obvious?? Lmao okay.
This is the AngryJoe that I started watching for, he isn't afraid of shitting on a game and that's what makes his recommendations more meaningful, When you have all these reviewers these days always trying to speak about the silver lining in a game even though it's really bad, E.X: Sea of Thieves, FFXV and others. I'm not trying to say all critics should hate on games or all critics should have the same opinion, But answer me this, when was the last time you saw a known critic completely destroy a AAA game ?
lieutenant Joker I’ve seen plenty of known critics bash on triple A. What you are probably referring to is seeing review companies like IGN which usually don’t bash triple A games.
IGN, Gamespot, and friends are the people who lead this group, But even reviewers like Before you buy and ACG, They just don't bash games anymore, How come one person loves all these games? Before you buy even said Sea of Thieves is good! COME ON ! the game literally has 3 things to do! Of course, after everybody bashed on it, The next week the guy comes out and says Sea of Thieves was short on content, Yeah why didn't you say that in the review?
lieutenant Joker oh okay yeah the people I follow are Angry Joe (obviously), SomecallmeJohnny, Caddicarus, and Yahtzee Croshaw (Zero Punctuation) if they think a game is bad they will tell you with no problem.
Don't forget Jim Fucking Sterling, son.
Well said
5:30 You can see the look Del gives to the camera just after Joe says he's not bad playing games... Coincidence? Maybe. We'll never know.
Well joe does suck at games so probably not a coincidence
I think it's important to remember that people who are bad at games also love gaming. In fact, games should cater to ALL, not just the pro's. Noobs wanna have fun too.
Origins main side quests were saving someone from bandits or captivity. I wish that made changes in the world
This type of review would be good for a podcast
I wouldn't mind if for the games he can't do full reviews to be like this, and Angry Joe podcast is a cool idea
Totally agree
I like this style. This should be the new rapid reviews.
I second this , this should be the format for the rapid reviews.... as for the game , its a shame and i was burnt out by the second , I liked the first assasin creed more (but I know im the huuuuge exception). So this is a skip for me , even more so due to the M$
I agree, I like seeing different perspectives and counter arguments
Yeah. He totally copped out on Origins and I think the title really deserved a full fledged review (or one like this).
I agree this would be an awesome way to do the rapid fire reviews
you got my attention here....
My biggest problem is the lack of story/poor writing of the cultists and their quests. Probably the worst is cultist named Master, you have to do 3 unrelated side quests that have nothing to do with him and then 1 poorly written quest. Some others have wrong or super vague clues, which is annoying.
I think the best way to play this game is to ignore the main quest completely, until you've wandered around (on your 'odyssey') and explored to your heart's content and done whatever side quests you want. Only then, focusing on the main quests means not only being strong enough to make it interesting/few-to-no strength walls, it also means you can run through them with an appropriate sense of urgency and timing and hunting down cultists is more 'hunting' and less 'hunt-ohh pretty new area, what was I doing again?'
Yeah it's pretty funny that the people saying they don't notice being underleveled are the same people that do every single quest and explore every area. It's like, yeah, no shit. You are doing the grind and that mindless busy work appeals to you. Nothing wrong with that, but don't be an idiot and pretend like it isn't there. Take warframe for example, it's a grindy game, but I personally never felt that because I ENJOY the parts that are grindy in that game, hence when playing it does not give that effect to me. Doesn't mean it isn't grindy, it's just the I personally do not mind it in that game. Same thing here, people are confusing their enjoyment of the parts of the game that are a grind, with there being no grind. And that's just untrue.
Well said mate, I definitely see a lot of what you describe across gaming in general.
But, like... it sounds like they weren't even bothering to pick up contracts, which are the *easiest* quests to complete because they usually don't even have a specific destination or time limit attached to them, they're just like... "sink 5 Spartan ships" or "kill 10 bandits in this zone", and reward a massive amount of XP for something you can complete *while* doing other quests (meaning you don't have to go out of your way or really spend too much extra time to get them done).
I hit level 50 with less than half the map explored without any boosts. Yes, I took my time and explored map markers but beyond that I didn't really do minor sidequests, only the major ones (which are marked with a gold icon, as opposed to silver, like the main quest missions - and are few and far between) and contracts, for the most part. If it was that easy for me, and I *didn't even bother with boosts*, then you'd think that someone who (IMHO) wasted money on a boost would have no trouble with it.
On top of that, I think if they're complaining about not being able to rush down the main story, they shouldn't have bothered with this game to begin with. Ubisoft took cues from Witcher 3's open world and level-locked main quests encouraging you to engage in side content to level up. They made this pretty clear before the game launched. And while I think that Odyssey would greatly have benefited from lower level-gates on main story content (and certainly isn't anywhere near Witcher 3's level of quality), I also think that barely participating in the side content and then complaining about needing to "grind out levels" for the main story is a bit daft.
I'm not even trying to fanboy here, there's plenty of complaints people have about the game that I find understandable, but the leveling issue *isn't a valid complaint* because you can easily hit the level requirements just by doing some of the major sidequests and hitting the bounty board to check if there's any easy contracts.
The grind is nowhere near worse than any other rpg out there. Maybe you should just admit rpgs are not for you instead of blaming the MTs.
Everything's a grind if you don't like it. I did the side quest because I wanted more combat, because to me, it was fun and appealing since I never got to play Origins. Exploring's the whole point of an open world rpg game too and since I love the world of ancient Greece, I thought it was perfect for me. If you want to rush through the story mode, there's a difficulty for that so you don't have to "Grind" to progress further.
People associate "grind" with two things: fetch quests (collect this and that, return to the quest giver) and repetition (oh you got the herbs? go back and do it again!). While the side quests in Odyssey are nowhere near the level of writing and/or quirkiness of, say, The Witcher 3, they're also not grindy in the sense of offering nothing more than a mundane task. The incentives could be better, especially if you've outleveled some of the quests. However, you're right on the money about grind being a part of the game. Any game that has side quests will have it to some degree, it's all down to how much effort you spend trying to dress it up. In the case of Odyssey, because player choices actually affect some outcomes for the game world, I find that they're worth doing.
black flag was amazing because it had a great story, great gameplay, map, and it was very original.
Not because it had pirates
@Dark Night Uhm, cos stealth is not a key aspect of AC odyssey?
AC Rogue also good man. Its so original, u play as templar perspective, and it has naval battle too
I loved Black Flag, was probably my favorite one save from the first for obvious reasons. Nothing can ever bring back the nostalgia of the first imo.
I disagree. Black flag had really bad characters and a medeocre story... It was unique and the presence of pirates made the game better despite, not because of, the story.
@@alcappacino You can't separate stealth from Assassin's Creed. If what you said is correct, then Odyssey isn't a true AC game.
something I feel that was missed is that when you get better legendary armour, you can just swap the appearance
You can lol
yes exactly, another amazing part of this game i loved. I had a blast playing this
Joe and team are among the only people who will actually give a review worthy of making a purchase decision on for the AC games, as they actually address the pathetic monetisation of this great game.
Alot of those other reviewers are giving AC Valhalla 8/10 without even waiting for the microtransactions to be revealed, making their reviews completely redundant.
They should move away from the AC franchise in general. The story is just kinda directionless really with the Abstergo stuff. They have the groundwork in place to move to historical RPGs. You can roll with Japan, China, the Vikings, the Mongol Empire etc etc just cut loose the AC part of it.
Potato Crisp I completely agree. They should’ve just called it Odyssey.
They are just milking the AC franchise for all its worth now, which is not much now. AC in all honesty just needs to die because it is already more then half dead and they need to move on and make some new games like it but without the AC story because that is really dead now.
Dark nal no the assassins creed franchise is not dead wtf lol. You're just new or something all long time fans like the lore of the creed, isu, Apple of eden, and human hybrids
@@nickh7724 No I'm actually not new to AC lol and yes while the franchise is not dead for any die hard fan or lover of the lore the ingame stories have become lame it say the least. I mean we have had soooo many AC games: AC 1, AC 2, AC 3, AC Black Flag, AC Unity, AC Brotherhood and that is only a few! And while some of them have had great stories: Altair, Ezio and Edward being my favorite assassin's most of the other AC stories are well sh!t and that is what is what I mean when I say that AC is dead, I mean that the stories are dead. The game play it's self, saying that that is dead couldn't be farther from the truth! So the games should continue but drop the AC stuff and give us something fresh. However this of course is just my personal opinion which you free to completely disagree with if you want to. Although I am not the only one to think this as I have met many huge fans of the franchise who agree with me but hey we are all entitled to our own opinions.
I gave up after Black Flag. While Black Flag wasn't a bad game, it wasn't a good ASSASSIN'S game. They just sort of dropped the ball and now it just feels like they are milking the name.
"Games are so expensive to make"
The video game industry makes more money than the film industry.
Temiblor It also has more games coming out than films. So even if there is more money it is spread over significantly more releases meaning less for each release. This invalidates your argument.
I'd love to discuss but I don't know you, I wont get paid for it, and I dont owe you a debate.

"Games are so expensive to make" then cut down the fucking cost. Some of the best games I have played were low budged.

You can’t “cut down the cost” if you want to push the boundaries of the medium. Triple A studios do pump out a lot of garbage, but at least it advances us in a technological sense.
Some of the side quests are really memorable, but they’re few and far between!
sidequests were fine, seems like they never played origins, 90% of them were "rescue this dude and carry him out of the camp" or "kill this" ...just awful, in odssey at least the story is interesting around them, my fav zone were the islands, almost every island had their story and intrigue

Do I understand this properly?
If I play Zelda: BotW, I can realistically beat the game with no note worthy grinding. If I play God of War (2018), I can do the main quests only and realistically beat the game. If I play Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, I am required to do a certain amount of sidequest and should probably do more then just a few, if I want to keep the game from getting excessively challenging; or pay extra to let me do what other games allow by default.
Two of these games give you a choice, one of these games sell you a choice.

Something that eases the grind quite a lot: Go into your settings and make sure level scaling is set to "heavy", so enemies and quests always scale up to your level if you pass them.

Micro transactions, special editions and season passes need to end. One price for a complete game. Dlc should be just that, a full download. Not a code that unlocks a segment on the disk you already bought. I love AC, I love the RPG direction. The stories need a little more polish like the days of old. I wouldn’t mind sticking with one Assassin for a while and seeing some kind of story arc across 2/3 games and we need to see the return of the assassin order and the templars. We need a tie off of loose plot threads from previous games. These stories are good, I’m just surprised that they didn’t base these “ancient stories” off the statues of assassins you see in ezios villa in AC2
Daniel Thomas no let there be MT's but only make them cosmetics so it wont affect the gameplay
Daniel Thomas bitch stfu. Go rant about it towards the origins of that which are mobile games, then mtx will go away.
I completely disagree with you. Ubisoft has to move on. They should focus on making new games instead of milking old series. Origins and Odyssey are the perfect examples, the games are great, but its such a wasted potential putting them in a dead series. If origins and Odyssey would start a new IP without the ISU and modern day animus bullshit forced into them, which ruins the game itself, the games would be amazing and i would be looking forward to the next one, but not like this. Odyssey was a great game until the sub-plot of Isu, animus and Layla kicked in, which is why i tried to avoid the Atlantis story line completely. AC died with Desmond, best thing you can do is call everything else not canon and convert Odyssey and Origins into a new IP of open world Mercenary game.
On-disc DLC doesn't happen anymore. DLC these days is made mostly post-launch.
as long as they keep it reasonable i have no problems with microtransactions but lets be real - you would have to double the normal game price to make these giant games nowadays and a lot of people might not be willing or able to pay that - microtransactions allows people with more money to support the game and still allows less deep pocket players to enjoy the game as well - don't forget about that....of course you can say let's just make smaller games in the future - but would we really want that?
I just finished the game on level 78. :D Honestly, I think it was fairly enjoyable?? I loved the main plot, family stories are a win with me. And all the locations are so beautiful! I also loved, loved, loved the supporting characters (especially a certain philosopher). And the sea and the sea shanties and sailing?? I had a lot of fun. In fact, sometimes it didn't even feel like an AC game - and in my opinion that's a good thing. Revelations was so repetitive that I never finished it. Also, the player characters were great too.
But with a game of this scale, I would have liked for the AI to be more unpredictable, and I would have liked it if they didn't reuse so many character models and voice actors.
(I didn't use boosters but I did explore a LOT. But I also tried to balance out playing the main plot and playing smaller quests and side missions.)
Many great ideas in this game. The cons are: too big, which means empty and tiresome at times; combat doesnt require skill, just levelling up; forgettable sidequests for the most part. I really enjoyed the story, the cultist hunting mechanics, the historical settings and characters. A great game.

Peter Elak good rpgs dont force you through tons of copy paste sidecontent. They give you a good story and compelling stuff to do OPTIONALLY. But the use of qq in your argument reveals either your age or your intelligence so we cant convince you anyway.

@@GeneralNukes that's funny coming from the guy with Andromeda pfp, which is a game that doesn't require you to grind to experience the story.
Nooo don’t support micro transactions for cosmetics in single player games, cause u know they’d lock all the good shit behind those paywalls if they know they can.
The Contrarian I’m actually okay with paying for cosmetics. It’s when they lock parts of the game behind pay walls by making you buy a season pass. I just got black ops 4 yesterday and it cost me $100 for the game, all 12 dlc multiplayer maps, 4 zombie maps and 2400 cod points for supply drops. That is just ridiculous honestly. If black ops 4 wasn’t the best cod since black ops 2 I would’ve never spent that much but man treyarch managed to being cod back to its former glory
I can deal with cosmetics. I’ll make my character look good my way. And if that involves paying 5-10$ then I’m ok with that as long as the game earns it. A good example is GTA 5 before it almost became necessary to use the micro transactions because everything got so expensive.
Played Odyssey twice over. Never used microtransactions. Who used them? Wimps?

I'm replaying Odyssey and thought I'd watch this review again and I noticed that when AJ team were talking about the resources and having to break down 50 items to upgrade one item they failed to mention that a lot of the resources can be gathered from looting war supplies, merchant ships - Merchants also stock those resources and you can destroy other ships to get materials.
The thing about being a legendary spartan warrior and having to do chores is not entirely accurate - your character is a mercenary paid to do jobs and if you want money then you'll do the job you're hired to do.
Last thing I want to cover here is that if you explore the region and do side missions, assault forts you will get that much junk equipment to break down to cover upgrades. This time playing I waited until I reached r mercenary rank 4 & 3 before upgrading my gear and my ship. Rank 4 & 3 reduce the cost of upgrades for items and ship by 50%.
This review I honestly and whole heartedly feel is very misleading.

I love his entertainment value but i do not actually take his opinions seriously. ACG or Gameranx are much better reviewers.
I notices this happening a lot, especially with games that are unknown. Some of them are taken by face value (1-5hours in) and everyone (with everyone i mean the 4 people that also gave it a shot) goes on the bandwagon and claims it being trash or just bad laughing at it while in reality they are sometimes missing out on something special or incredibly fun/interesting.

I am personally playing AC Odyssey right now (I bought it 2 years ago but never got to play much of it) and as a Greek citizen this game is a masterpiece... it really pays respect to our civilization and history, it's very very accurate with historical figures, places, sights etc, it's beautiful, the nature (islands, mountains, rocky cliffs, rock coloring etc) really REALLY looks like Greece, the Greek language lines that NPCs speak are dead accurate ancient Greek...
