Used these on a really cold day at the lake ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxDn2sw8y7H6oNOV0envADWPlTV9pvctAA the spool was really fluent in letting the line out and the whole mechanism was really responsive to any hit from the fish, it was also great that you can adjust it for big or small fish. The light it came with works great in the dark. The only thing that I had problems with is the depth droppers clasp is really weak and it wouldn't stay on the hook unless you threaded the hook through the springs
*These work with rod and reel or tip ups **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s good for keeping snow out of the hole and to greatly slow hole freezing. They are not heavy so need to be held down by tip up or some snow/ice shavings if windy. Have not had them freeze down even when placed in wet ice shavings.*
I started hooking my minnows right by the head like you demonstrated and I have drastically improved my hook ups. I pulled a few dinner plate crappies out of sakakawea this past Sunday east of williston on a jigging spoon with a minnowhead.
@@fishinfool247 I was at long creek when I caught mine the other day. I'm going to be out at white earth bay Friday night to Sunday afternoon this weekend
Generally no, just a split shot and plain hook. Usually the minnow swimming counters any twist in the line and you don’t usually work up twist as you aren’t jigging.
Using the rod holder on the wrong side. The way it's being used now a big fish can take the rod down the hole, if it's turned around then the rod just slides down and the rod holder stops the rod from going down the hole.
You are correct about sliding out and down the hole. I use them that way when I am sitting next to them so I can slide the rod towards the hole and fish without having any resistance the fish can feel to grab the rod and set the hook.
Poor little dude. I'll keep using artificial baits even if it means less bites. 😂 Used to hook frogs, craws and minnows when I was younger. I seem to care more in my older years... Except when it comes to cleaning the fish for supper 🤣😉 (I still use minnows once in a while for perch) 🤷

Thanks for showing us how you hook that minnow. It definitely gives off that injured/dying motion

Awesome tips, awesome demonstration. Much appreciated!
I'll try that on Red Lake this weekend Thanks!
Pretty darned good advice, Jason. Thanks.
Thanks so much. Great video. To the point and exactly what I need as I am going ice fishing for the first time next week.
Thank you Jason spoken like a true professional
Thanks for the tips Jason! I’m going to try your Minos hooking method
Definitely giving these hook tactics a try. Thanks
Thanks, I have never tried that but I will now! 👍
Hey I was wondering if you could show us how to hook a minnow?
That way and tail are my go to... but tail wise sometimes u don't hook the fish as much.....
That was a great video!
Hey legend, really need some dead (Dead) stick tips, the trend here 0 live bait for walleye, only minnows allowed is frozen
Thanks for the heads up!
Wish we could use live bait in Idaho
Jason, What size hook do you prefer for this method? Thanks
Depends on the size of the minnow, for walleyes with most minnows, I use a size 6 or 4. For perch and crappie, I will lean a little smaller at times.
Hi Jason
Where did you get those rod holders that you use?
I have had them for years and can’t remember. I think HT made them.
@@JasonMitchellOutdoors thanks for the reply!! Must not make them anymore
Sure are nice!!
Hi Jason. Do you need to use swivel upstream with this setup?
Generally no, just a split shot and plain hook. Usually the minnow swimming counters any twist in the line and you don’t usually work up twist as you aren’t jigging.
Thanks Jason!

I always chop the tail🤹
No minnow was hurt in the making of this video
