Why does anyone even care how it looks? It should be a question of how much better is it ? If it’s better at all. They could sell you an amazing looking piece of plastic that looks like it came from the 3099 but if it runs like a Nintendo switch at 30 fps it’s still not good.

The lay out and reason everything looks so similar is Because the PS5 slim has a binned ps5 pro chip they knew what they were doing its a smart tactic to save money and charge the consumer more money
I have a theory. COVID messed up a lot of manufacturing and Sony rushed to deliver the PS5 on time. Then finally once products came available again, they rebuilt the PS5 and added what was originally intended (hence the 8k badge on the original box)
You wanna a controller of 240$ a extra tera of disk, more ram, some extra hardware and some extra power, all for the same price of a PS5 normal, people think companies do stuff to sell at cost price with 0 profit.
$700 is insane. $250 just for a 2gb DDR5 cell, a slightly bigger PSU and going to 4nm from 6nm. a tiny chip like this must cost at most $100, even on 4nm. Sony could be selling these for $600 with the disc drive and still be making money.
No, the PS5 pro use RDNA4 GPU with harware accelerated AI upscaler. This is not a software lock. And the chip is bigger and require more power and more thermal dissipation capabilities.
it's physically a different graphics processor. it uses an updated architecture from AMD, i wouldnt be surprised if it uses frame gen, but it is a different chip
@ShiroDv it seems they could add it to the ps5. They are doing this to force crazed fanboys into spending all their pay check on the pro and not their rent for a month.
Exactly. Thank you. It doesn't have those features but they can easily have done it on the base model. Current gen doesn't need an upgraded version at all they're very powerful. It's just devs haven't utilized the full potential yet. To me it's just waste of money and a cash grab. I mean why waste so much money where in 3 years PS6 will come out?
@@MikeTheGreek I think you're massively underestimating the power of PSSR, and the capabilities of it for the future. I also feel like you're overestimating the current power of the PS5 as most games are failing to hit 60 FPS at native 4K resolution. That's the whole selling point behind the Pro is that PSSR is supposed to bridge the gap for games to run at 60 FPS.
Kudos to Sony engineers for making the battery accessible. That alone will save owners hundreds of dollars. A technician should not need to remove the CPU heat-sink to get to the battery. Doing so increases the chance of the liquid metal thermal "pad" being compromised. I'd have to look at your prior strip-down vids again to see if that indeed would have been the case, but, iirc, in one model the battery was right under a heat-sink.
@Bigzoe202Gaming people that think like you are the reason game companies say "consumers should get used to not owning games." You know the things that are shipped out half finished and cost $70 physically and digitally. And also require us to be online all the time even if it's a single player storymode
$700 for no disk drive, 1 extra tb, and a TINY MINISCULE performance boost is unacceptable when I could buy a PS5 Slim with Disk Drive, 2 extra controllers, and the newest CoD Vault Edition for the same price.
An interesting takeaway from this analysis is that the Series X is actually a pretty well darn designed console: quieter, lower power consumption, while keeping roughly the same temperature. Who would have thought Microsoft had nailed it this time. It's just a shame about the games though...
As a person who upgraded to an XSX from a PS4 Pro, I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately for Xbox, the previous console generation was the one where most people acquired a library of games which thanks to Backwards Compatibility, combined with diminishing returns, constitutes a major obstacle against switching platform. Sony obviously knows this, and aren't afraid exploit this advantage to the maximum... Although I think they are overplaying their hand a bit if they think they can continue with this pricing for the next console generation!
So with the brackets can we stand our ps5 pros upright without having issues? I heard the older ps5s had issues with thermal paste or the Liquid Metal when standing upright?
That problem was hugely overblown. Of course you heard the very vocal few that had an issue, but you wouldn't hear anything from the millions that didn't. My 2020 console has been upright its entire life and is fine.

You're smoking and I want whatever it is. Go watch Digital Foundry. Only some games won't hit 60 and that is on the developers. Elden Ring is a badly optimized game and the Pro does WAY more for it than the stock PS5. going from struggling at 38-40fps on quality mode to 50+ fps and pretty much 60 at performance for ER specifically is amazing. I don't know what you think this is.
@shockle28 PC is the best? You guys are peasants who won't get games like GTA VI on Day 1. There's a reason why developers prioritize consoles. Because console players actually buy their games on day 1. Meanwhile, cheapskate PC players wait forever for steam sales while spending money on graphic cards.
The best combo is PC + Switch... I just sell my PS5 after buying all of my games on Steam and plug it on my LG 65 120hz. The best move ever. NO PS+, the controller I want (Love 8bitdo) and running RDR2 4k 120fps, not a fucking PS4 version. PC = liberty.
For me its better frames on games that are struggling right now. Also I hate the blurry image in some games performance mode. PRO fixes that by running quality mode in 60 fps instead of 30.
Its almost like a con. Like they dont expect any major games in years to come and so they bs people into playing released games again cuz it looks/plays "better".
@ShinzoX90 Money doesn't really matter to me, especially as a hard-core gamer. I love the newest tech and gadgets. But I fail to see the point.. I think it's a disgusting move from Sony to not include a disc drive, not have ANY older ps4 games "enhanced."
I ended up getting one, I haven't had a console besides a switch since the ps2 and only been on PC. Thought fuck it might as well get the better version.
In your case it isn't unreasonable, it's justifiable. Those who already own PS5s probably won't see a reason to upgrade, to trade-in their old unit and get a new upgraded unit. Oh, I'm sure there will be some, but it many not be that many. But, because it is Digital Only one has to go into it knowing that they will probably need to pay $160 a year to play games, or pay whatever price is asked when buying a Digital download game. So, do you want to pay $69.99 for the newest game, for the base game, $109 for the Deluxe, or $169.99 for the Premium Deluxe with all the DLCs, costumes, weapons, power-ups, maps, etc., game?

A packed release schedule, content delays, and historic IP pushed console to the next level in 2023 Console will be the biggest games market sector this year after mobile. Console’s impressive +7.4% growth will far outpace mobile (+0.8%) and downloaded/boxed PC (+1.6%). Several factors are driving the growth of console gaming: 2022 was slower-than-expected for console, despite some big releases (like Elden Ring), so a portion of this year’s growth is more of a return to form. Major studios are launching new entries to successful franchises, including Zelda, Spider-Man, Mario, Forza, Starfield, Diablo, Baldur’s Gate, and Final Fantasy, after years without mainline releases. The pandemic forced the AAA games industry to delay releases even further. Have meaning when you say something.

Im from Belize and $1 US is equivalent to $2 Belize. So $700 US is equivalent to $1400 Belize excluding Tax. Very Expensive. When the PS5 came out a friend brought back one to sell he wanted $2400 Belize but he sold me for $1800 Belize. I will definitely pass on the PS5 Pro for now

I think they just enabled frame generation only on ps5 pro, like the ps5 slim also has the same spec, but it's sofware locked
I wonder is there someone out there flashing PS5Pro firmware to a PS5Basic/Slim
No, the PS5 pro use RDNA4 GPU with harware accelerated AI upscaler. This is not a software lock. And the chip is bigger and require more power and more thermal dissipation capabilities.
it's physically a different graphics processor. it uses an updated architecture from AMD, i wouldnt be surprised if it uses frame gen, but it is a different chip
@ShiroDv it seems they could add it to the ps5. They are doing this to force crazed fanboys into spending all their pay check on the pro and not their rent for a month.
The Slim does not have the same specs as the pro lmao
Notice how PS5 Pro has a secret but no games xD
Fun fact the original ps5 is the true pro model
Exactly.

@@faintsignalx*120hz
Kudos to Sony engineers for making the battery accessible. That alone will save owners hundreds of dollars. A technician should not need to remove the CPU heat-sink to get to the battery. Doing so increases the chance of the liquid metal thermal "pad" being compromised. I'd have to look at your prior strip-down vids again to see if that indeed would have been the case, but, iirc, in one model the battery was right under a heat-sink.

In Sweden it's 967 USD disc drive not included ofcourse
Yeah, 10490 SEK... Sony didn't even attempt to make the price seem a bit less egregious by making it 9999 SEK!!!
30 percent performance increase ain't worth it, I'd rather Sony made a Series S type console for the masses.

The secret is that it is a more powerful machine. When 700 is a candy bar to you, having a better experience is worth it.
Honestly if 700 is a lot of money, you should not be gaming, you should be improving yourself.

Console will be the biggest games market sector this year after mobile. Console’s impressive +7.4% growth will far outpace mobile (+0.8%) and downloaded/boxed PC (+1.6%).
Several factors are driving the growth of console gaming:
2022 was slower-than-expected for console, despite some big releases (like Elden Ring), so a portion of this year’s growth is more of a return to form.
