I first experienced back in 1968 or 69 when I heard Jimi Hendrix's "All Along The Watch Tower" (Bob Dylan). It was Epic, Cinematic, JRR Tolkein - Lord Of The Rings. It has happened now and then to me. It has happened to me consistently since 1978 when I first discovered The Dixie Dregs. I am addicted to Morse's compositions and playing.
I saw Steve Morse playing with Deep Purple in 2020 right before the pandemic hit. He was one of my favorite guitarists when I discovered the Dixie Dregs and now even more so. The comment you wrote about the sound he gets from his guitar sums it up perfectly. His sense of melody and the beauty of his solos makes him one of the best playing today and in the history of guitar players. I am writing this a year later because Flying Colors is just about to release a new live album and following the videos led me to this video. Great stuff.
"Underrated" meaning that "Flying Color's" isn't given the respect the deserve because of who they are and who they've worked with before. I think anyone who took the time to listen to this from start to finish knows how amazing they are. The rest of the world needs to know this too. Neal Morse is a stunning keyboardist - check out some early Spock's Beard. He's amazing and every bit as good (maybe better) than Banks, Wakeman, Downs, Moraz and a host of other progged keyboardists you may have heard.

to me, it sounds like he RE-RECORDED it in the studio, later. NO WAY is that a live vocal: there's NO fluctuations at all. (Not even the most skilled singer can make it sounds as SMOOOTH as studio.) Remember: all "live" albums have massive overdubs etc. (Even the crowd noise is fake on most!)
Steve Morse has been blessed by God Almighty - knew that since he was a young man in the Dixie Dregs, and its been confirmed again and again over the years - he is likely an Angel.. As for Neal, he is a great Elder and a mighty Saint of God for our times. Mike Portnoy is our modern day St. Peter.
Ron Thompson, Randy Rhodes and Neal Schon ruled guitar in the early days when Scott Joplin brought popularity to blues like music. The new music has been a large celebratory event for many millions of people. But new musicians are now pushing the sounds of rock into higher dimensions.
Everything about this band and the songs they do are absolutely inspiring. The vocal harmonies and musicianship are flawless. I cant get enough of this stuff. Amazing

There are comments about Mike Portnoy on autotune or pitch correction in this performance... But man, if you search raw materials with MP singing, he sounds just the way he did here...
June is still one of my favorite Spock’s Beard songs. Interesting choice, pairing Repentance and it together. In retrospect, the last two songs of the Twelve Step Suite are my least favorites. Repentance and Shattered Fortress didn’t have the passion that Glass Prison, Dying Soul and Root of All Evil had in them.
I'm sure John was stoked his guitar hero covered one of his songs and ripped a killer solo of his own. Steve plays like Steve, and John like John, I would expect nothing else.

Had to scroll so far down to find someone who noticed this! It does sound like his vocals were re-done in post production. A little disappointed. He's usually a stickler for keeping doing things live and keeping them as is. Maybe his vocal part didn't turn out well during the live recording.
Repentance Part is actually very cool, portnoy singing like that is just insanely great ! But the solo sound shit to me, the JP one sound so much better
