I think my favourite thing about being Autistic is the fact that we get really passionate about the things and people we care about, like you said in your video. I think it's great to see myself and other Autistic people truly light up when we're focused on something we're passionate about, and that energy can be infectious and make those around us excited about the things we're excited about.
Ooh god yeah absolutely love this! When people have that infectious kind of positivity, it just sets the vibe and generates a much better mindset! That's what I thin about being autistic truth be told!! 👍
I must say that in this COVID lockdown being autistic is to my advantage as isolation is perfectly natural to me. Neurotypicals must suffer terribly, missing their friends (which I don't have by the way) and also missing going to the pub, which I also don't do. I'm happy in my own space, though better TV programs would be nice but that's just my taste, I do see good stuff from time to time but of course everyone has to be entertained. The big positive of Autism for me is that I get stuff done once I get started or set my mind to it, particularly if it is routine to me. It takes alot for me to lose interest in something and my level of focus means that I can just get on with something. Honesty and loyalty can depend on how I've been treat by themselves. Money-wise, could be better but am normally able to control that spending urge, particularly with past mistakes I've made.
For me one positive is that I think of things no one else seems to think of and people are often fascinated with the way my mind works. Another one is not wanting to grow up too fast like most other kids did. I was always happy being the age I was at the time and acting like it too. I have carried my youth through adulthood and haven't lost touch with my inner child and that makes life more fun. Not sure I can agree with the not wanting to buy things though. If I see something cool I often fixate on it. But I still do research before I buy if that counts 😂

Can agree with a lot of these. The honesty is my favorite because I'm extremely honest and is like the second or third most important thing in the world.
I work really well with children (though i admit I find them to be too much sometimes) because I have the ability to tap into a mindset of "i can play with these toys too and it's not weird because I'm playing with a child." XD It seems a lot of parents don't want to put forth the effort of playing with their kids and finding joy in it, but I love buying and playing with toys even though I'm 31.
Yeah I have to say that even though it is for kids... It's nice to come home after a long day and just chill with my toy llamas you know. I don't see anything wrong with it really so you do you Carrie 👍
I love being very happy when I find out something helpful for my special interests - one of them is linguistics and one day I really was not happy but then I found out how to write IPA (international phonetic alphabet) on my computer and was very happy about that
I've actually been conditioned by my interactions with people (and lack thereof in some cases) not to be overly passionate about my interests. I'm afraid of making people uncomfortable and people yelling at me for talking about something they don't care about.
I totally agree about the passion point. Passion is a tool for sticking up for what you believe and/or working hard for something you love. People recognize passion and it is a beautiful quality to have when used right.
I like that I get passionate and excited about certain things. For me they mostly involve video games and I get really excited when someone plays the same games I do because then I can talk to them about it
These all speak out to me, with the greatest one being that I want to do things I am interested in correctly despite my apparent disadvantages. I am a target archer (barebow recurve) and a CrossFitter with a very strong leaning towards the Olympic weightlifting aspect. General CrossFit isn't as much of a forte for me, but I am very fired up about Olympic weightlifting and have been known to interrogate coaches I trust for assistance in my form because I do have some quirks and difficulties in the movement as someone who was not allowed to physically train as a kid and general clumsiness all my life. I do very similarly with target archery and have been known to talk people's ears off on my two primary sports. One of my former weightlifting coaches once told me that he was very impressed with my drive to get things correct despite my sensory and coordination issues along with severe anxiety. I do feel much more empowered after my diagnosis and seeing all the pieces coming together. I do feel like being autistic with ADHD has been a pair of double edged sword I have been fumbling around with and now learning how to use properly and effectively.
I like to be around good people too, but it is rare. We live in a judgemental world. I was very determined; however, Aspies try to do it all alone & then we crash & burn. Honesty is a part of out makeup, although that can be manipulated by others. Passionate oh yes, then oneday it stops, then something else starts? My most positive Aspie point is that I can survive alone without needing too much at all. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing these - it's helpful to be reminded about the positives when much of the time it's about the negatives. I've never understood the whole judging people's outfits (unless it was super outlandish, which would probably be purposeful, anyway) or whatever. I was so confused about the "what are those?!" Trend that went around about people's shoes. Like... uh who cares? Honesty and loyalty is absolutely important, for sure. Something I realize not many people possess, even people who initially mean well.

That second point was very interesting! I’m 14, and my parents always say that you should just listen to your employer and not try to bring up a counterargument. For me, if an employer doesn’t value my opinions, then I don’t think they deserve my work. I’m learning coding and I’m only improving. If I get really, REALLY, good at it, I think it could help in the long run in finding a company that I would *want* to work at, not one I feel like I just *should be* working at. To be fair, I use to think.like that however that just don't how the world works sadly. But if you can focus on improving your skills to find a job that works for you then that would be awesome especially in this climate. Definitely keep in going my friend and hope you succeed 🙏
I’m on a bit of a self discovery journey at the moment and it only occurred to me very recently that the reason I feel I think so differently to other people may well be because I’m maybe autistic… Thank you for posting this video, I get totally everything you’ve said and didn’t realise I’m not alone in this thinking and these personality traits 🙈☺️.
Just found out after 16 years of confusion with myself I am on the spectrum and I am feeling better about it and I feel a lot better hearing other people’s stories
Pattern recognition and attention to details are a huge one for me. I learned to apply that to my social skills to bypass that difficulty of learning social skills. In particular what temple grandin does but apply it to human behavior instead of animal behavior, as a result i have developed a scary ability to read people and their possible intentions based on their body language, expressions, etc. In fact my attention to detail has allowed me to deconstruct others arguments In debates, enhance my problem solving skills strategically, and also aided in thwarting a bill from being passed by my state congress when i interned at an advocacy/legal non-profit for those with disabilities and possibly have saved over 1 million jobs in my state. Another aspect of behavioral pattern recognition allowed me to become quite the ladiesman in highschool and i gave advice to my then single teacher and two years later that teacher was married to the man she met that evening and now has 3 kids. However i lack the ability to lie lol something i got from my dad so the honesty thing is 100% and yes autism runs in my dads family, my dad us an aspie and has adhd my mom has adhd too but not autism. Passion thing is absolutely 100% spot on. I also agree with the money thing. We are generally not as materialistic and if we do desire wealth and power its more so that we can enjoy it with the others we love. Elon musk is a prime example, he's a billionaire aspie but his priorities are nothing like the other billionaires. I also think its the positive personality wuth him too, people on the spectrum in general are more charasmatic. Nikola Tesla was autistic, so was Einstein, Thomas Jefferson, Mozart, and even Michaelangelo. Hans Asperger even once said "It seems for any significant success in the arts or sciences, a dash of autism is essential" and after the war became an advocate for those on the spectrum as his findings showed him the ideas from nazi eugenics were "largely incorrect". In fact hans asperger likely suffered from the very thing he studied, in other words he too was on the spectrum. Stanley Kubrick is also on the spectrum and so was Charles Darwin, yes the theory of evolution was proposed by someone with Autism. And so was yes you guessed it Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokemon. Andy Warhol is on the list too and you know his art is worth millions today and are some of the most valuable artworks in the world.
Bonding and emotional attachment is another big one. The relationships we do make we treasure and never take lightly and its why depending on the circumstances we are either too forgiving or not very forgiving when betrayed or used. And as a result we are more prone to being in abusive relationships. But at the same time it means we are more often able to choose our friends more wisely.
It's so nice to see a video like this. I wouldn't change my autism for the world. Without it, I wouldn't have my love for Buffy, which brings me so much joy.

I'm autistic and I feel so passionate about drawing, and also I finally personified Autism as a cute dragon called Zì Bì Zhèng Long and it's based on the autism culture: #redinstead, #walkinginred, etc. I personify it as a black dragon who has horns and antennae, wears a rainbow infinity bow in its neck, red shoes with infinity bows and at the end of it's tail it has a red bulb. Also I am a good cook, I think I got it from my great grandma's seasoning.
I do agree with the non-judgemental part. In college, people loved me in a way, and I was somehow popular with the ladies and they loved me as a friend, because I was very accepting non-judgemental of others and got along well with people when I was older. I became the guy everyone loved and was friendly. Im also very resillent and persistent too and I love to challenge society and the people, who doubt me and say that i can't do it. People always were surprised that I knew how to talk to women normally lol, and have female friends and that i somehow can talk to anybody different than I am. I've proved others wrong. I noticed that i am extremely open minded, and can talk to all walks and talks of life, i've never cared if one was White, Black, Hispanic, man, woman, non-binary, trans, LGBTQ+ etc, it was more of are you a good person, nice and friendly, or are you an asshole. With money, i'm very good with money and i'm not truly materialistic in a way, I do sometimes buy video games, subscriptions, food etc, but I don't need the newest items and such. I am passionate about my hobbies and interests too.
For me it's to show to other that I can do something even if they think that i'm not able to. It's making me work harder to succeed if it's something that I really want to do.
My 7 y.o nephew is on the spectrum. He’s now just starting to speak in complete sentences 💖. His memory blows my mind. We were in Colorado 3 years ago & decided to rent out an airbnb instead of doing a hotel. Fast forward to last week- we’re back in Colorado & just so happened to drive by that same Airbnb and he’s the only one that remembered it!
I don't really do the thinking ahead on purchases most of the time I depression shop (buy something impulsively to beat myself up over spending money later instead of keeping a nest egg for security- like rent money a month or two in advanced). I do try to think ahead on bigger purchases though. Like getting a new camera or game system-- I want a new camera, but I need something that doesn't eat the battery super fast(less charging or changing AA/AAA batteries in like an hour or less. Really want a GoPro, but i can't justify to myself spending that much on a camera- so I've been arguing with myself for multiple years on that one. lol
I don't strive to be rich but I like being rich enough that I can freely choose what I want to eat instead of what's in my budget. I'll probably eat the same food anyway but financial security is a good thing imho. I also like buying stuff for my hobbies, mainly tropical plants and drawing material and I like being able to make gifts for my people without worrying too much about my budget.
Hmm I think I was. To be honest it's not something anyone has asked me before but that's my answer. Think what helps is engaging with other people and peers but my issues were that I couldn't say words correctly etc. So it looks some time.
ASD pro about me; I will not lie to you. ASD con about me; I will not lie to you. This gets me in trouble because people think I am being judgmental when in my mind I am just making an observation. There is no judgment or emotion tied to it what so ever. To me it's just data. And what is that sound in the background at 7:09. I keep hearing it and it is driving me nuts trying to figure out what it is.
Aww yeah so you're being objective? Yeah to be fair that's a good quality to have though not appreciated by some. Also that sound is actually my neighbours kids playing in the pool they have in the garden... Sadly I couldn't do anything about it as I repeated the line like 3-4 times and the kids were still making noise 😟

I like that I can get high off a music. Literally go into my own world if pure bliss no matter what is going on around me.

You should talk about how movies portray autism. I find that movies like Rain Man and The Accountant are quite stereotyped.

It's a tie between ot being judgy and the integrity. I can't say I was blessed with the determination bit, sounds lovely though.

I do have to admit to the fact that I am very judgemental however I am guessing that might have been caused by trauma and I try to not be judgemental
I have autism but do people who have ADHD have the ability to make a perfect 3 dimensional shape and visualise it
ASD pro about me; I will not lie to you. ASD con about me; I will not lie to you. This gets me in trouble because people think I am being judgmental when in my mind I am just making an observation. There is no judgment or emotion tied to it what so ever. To me it's just data.
And what is that sound in the background at 7:09. I keep hearing it and it is driving me nuts trying to figure out what it is.
Aww yeah so you're being objective? Yeah to be fair that's a good quality to have though not appreciated by some.
Also that sound is actually my neighbours kids playing in the pool they have in the garden... Sadly I couldn't do anything about it as I repeated the line like 3-4 times and the kids were still making noise 😟
