What I most appreciate about the daily series is that it gives a much more realistic time-frame for how long even a pretty simple project like this takes. All of my projects get frustrating when I’m not done in 30 minutes but the guy on UA-cam built it in a single 8 minute video!!
Very true! I've noticed that, too!
Thanks Steve for putting out a new video each day. It keeps our spirits up. It really feels like your talking to a old friend with all the casual conversation.
Definitely paint a QR code on your roof that points to this youtube channel
Perfect!
Steve, I just want to say thank you for the frequent and peppy videos. It's a spark of positivity in these grim times.
Thanks for doing these Steve. They have been a really nice mental break. Having wwmm back during all this is like the comfortable pair of sweatpants we have all been wearing for 3 weeks now!
“I get dizzy just being this tall” 😂🤣😂
I was just thinking that... The lockdown is getting to him, I think.
I wonder how tall he is.
I was going to mention that too. I think it's very funny.
Remember when a tyrannical govt took over the USA under false pretense and not one shot was fired and no Americans protested? I do
@@NoNORADon911 I wish everyone else would remember the same.
Steve, great tutorial, as always. Quick suggestion instead of using the clamp to make the holes:
1. Hold jig in place, make first hole
2. Insert metal pin and then no need for a clamp; make rest of holes
3. Move metal pin to last hole and move jig; make second set of holes
Also since this is a closet I get why you don't want the holes all the way to the bottom or all the way to the top. For an entertainment center, though, where you might want to position remote control storage, or a sound bar, or cables, you can make lots more holes. (Also for those drill inter-shelf 1" holes in the rear corners for cable management. People like to make holes in the back... and then you have to fish the cable... or center rear... in which case cables are visible between A/V components.
We're all under lockdown, but you're helping make it much much better. If I was getting paid to sit here during this time I'd up my Patreon support!
That time will come. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
Ehud
P.S. I am a helicopter pilot... and I put a windsock on my roof. Now planes and helicopters EVERYWHERE use it as a reference point and fly over the house. The neighbors may not love it but I do :)
G’day mate! Hello from the land of wallabies. The paint roller and brush in a plastic bag between coats is very handy. I like how you showed the peg board option for drilling shelf pin holes. Thank you for making these videos. They are part of my morning coffee and UA-cam routine. 👍😎🇦🇺
I really appreciate these videos. They make being a person with an essential job a little less cruddy.
Communism is going to be fun, people don't ''get it'' yet, but they will.
Roof msg: WWMM logo. Branding! Always Branding!
Also, either way it can be read from above right :)
I agree. Put WWMM on the roof.
you should write up "welcome to Cleveland" on the roof.
+what a mad man, dipping y'roller right into the bucket.
Didn't someone do that somewhere that wasn't Cleveland (or wherever he said it was)?
@@swissfreek - that's why it is funny
@@swissfreek Yes, a Milwaukee man painted it on his roof so it was visible to those flying into the airport
Zengineer yeah I knew I had seen a blurb about that in AirSpace or something. Pretty funny.
Chris Moore it’s funny, I’m just saying it’s been done.
watching your videos is like one of the best things on my day, thank you for share all the progress with us.
Thanks again, Steve! btw, the wallaby joke never gets old 😂
It's so awesome getting a daily dose of Steve! I find myself enjoying sitting at my computer every evening and find you're new upload. Keep it up bud and watch Freud on Netflix!
seeing this vid come up just made my day! Thank you for doing these!
Thanks Steve 👍 Stay Safe ☘️ appreciate your efforts to keep us all sane! Take Care
Love watching your daily updates. You were in a goofy mood in this one, I enjoyed that a lot.
Including your workout break was a great PSA, Steve!! Wish I had tools to do a lot of your neat projects. Would you consider showing us how to make toe kick drawers? I think that's what you call them. That dead space at the bottom of your kitchen cabinets that would be great for storing large, flat bakeware. Pretty please!! Thanks!
I came to a UA-cam woodworking channel for inspiration! Never would I have guessed that it would inspire the best work out I have had in years! Thanks Steve
Steve: I want a black house with red trim.
Me: That inverted pentagram on his wall is making more sense now!
Your Zürich white has almost neutral grey, beige undertones with a hint of yellow. Prefect for outside and sunny rooms. In the shade it looks a bit more cool.
YES to scheduling time to work out. I've worked from home for a few years now, and it very much helps to have certain things (such as exercise) set for specific times/days. Knowing I have that coming up helps keep me on track. I also try to make sure I set time to be creative during the day -- even if I don't feel like it -- whether that be woodworking, painting, music, or fiber art, even if it's just 15-20 minutes at a time.
Looking forward to seeing how the closet turns out!
Steve, thank you so much for these posting videos for us. It really helps to have something consistent and good to look forward to. Stay home, stay healthy. 💚
The end of this video is exactly how I end up under estimating how much work I have left. "I'm almost done. I just need to do X... and Y... and Z...
and Q, R, S, and T... well crap."
Thanks for making these daily videos. It’s definitely helping me keep sane
Steve thank you for this set of videos. They are a welcome respite during all of this. I genuinely am excited for each day’s video!
Exercise is so good for mental health as well. I keep saying this, but I look forward to these videos everyday. They are a great distraction during these times.
Great Progress On The Project ! You Should Paint As Seen On You Tube On The Roof !
Ouwwww!! I just LOVE THAT SHADE OF WHITE!!!🤣😁🥰 Seriously though, that build is coming along nicely. Peace and Good Fortune and Good Health to you and your family.
"In Australia, it's pronounced 'Wallaby'!" ROFL 😂 My favorite WWMM joke. Thank you for reviving it, Steve! This was one of the best videos yet.
Thanks, Steve, you're so right about exercise...and then there's the woodworking...
I have never pronounced R-O-O-F as wallaby... lol. Really enjoying the build. Thankyou.
I heard it as Wallabeef, which had me laughing.
Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking there are too many whites. I've actually found myself staring at a dozen different samples of white at Home Depot before.
Always love the sound of the high speed brad nailer nailing.
I used to think that I had a fear of heights. In Yosemite I realized that I really don't, but that I do have a fear of falling. The difference: happily leaning over the railing at Glacier Point versus fearfully creeping up to the edge at Taft Point.
I move stuff around in the backyard to know when the last published satellite photo was taken. Anything 12 inches with good contrast shows up nicely.
Steve: Doesn't like going on the roof.
Also Steve: Used to do woodworking on his apartment roof in downtown San Francisco.
You should paint “G’day mate!” on your roof.
For the algorithm. And you're hilarious! Thanks for your every-day videos, they help alot.
For on the roof... either "Yes I live here" or "Stop Looking At ME !!!"
THe only thing bad about these videos is that I now realized I've been locked away from the world for 25 days :) keep it up steve!
I painted my ceilings a couple of years ago. My wife came home from work and the first thing she said was "That's not white enough." The funny thing is it was platinum white with extra white added. I guess ceiling paint is not as white as trim paint. Go figure...
😂🤣😂
It’s not the paint. It’s what they are taught at Wife School...
Looking good! Thanks for talking about the plywood, that’s good info.
An alternative to your plastic bag for keeping paintbrushes from drying out is Clingfilm. Slightly longer to apply, but can exclude almost 100% of air when squished over the bristles or roller.
LOL. I loved the super fast holes being drilled LOL. it was like .25 of a second and a ton of those were drilled haha
One the roof: "YOU ARE HERE"
I love watching these!
I instantly caught your “roof”. It was great to hear your pronunciation as I say it the same way (about the same age) and got pounded in comments for it in one of my 3D printing videos. The software has a roof setting so now I avoid the word and just call it top setting.
Hello and welcome to day #25. Yaaay!
Another great visit, I mean video, some normalcy in a unnormal world. Rhanks for keeping up with the saily videos. I really look forward to them each day.
jWe did the red and black in a room that faced north. You always had the light on so black wall paper with golden pheasants and red trim, black sashes and door with red panels. Looked fantastic. Ruff, roof as long as people understand you who gives a flying flamingo!
Mate, comedy Steve was on point, today! 😂
Thank you for these videos Steve.
It is funny how fast you are with the brad nailer :-)
"This space intentionally left blank."
Liking the more casual approach you've developed over the past 25 days 👍. Wow, has it been 25 days already? If this pandemic goes on much longer I won't ever want to go back to work 🤣😂
Workout tip: Start by doing 1 push-up. Double the number you do every day. By the end of the first month, you'll be doing over 500K push-ups each day!
Being able to adjust the height of partitions is the best idea.
I’m a walker, always have been. I’ve tried other forms of exercise but, for most of my life, walking has been the most consistent form of exercise. I’m 65 and two years into a hip replacement. I’m currently walking about four miles a day most days. With quarantine, it’s valuable for both my physical and my mental health. I walk in all kinds of weather, year round, here in the Pacific NW.
Really enjoying your videos! Thank you from the good old UK 😀
Its crazy how shutterply (plywood Steve is using) quality varies, I recently found a local supplier that stocks Brazilian made plywood that has no knots and is cheaper than locally made plywood,
I think that second ply you showed briefly at around 2:10 is called "arauco" ply. It's made from radiata pine (which you can also get in solid boards), which is plantation-grown in South America. Both forms are pretty good.
Funny thing is that I can't even do single proper push-up when the lockdown started in our country. Found a video (of course from YT) about negative push-ups tried that everyday instead. Yesterday I tried to do proper push-ups and was surprised that I can do 10 now. Just want to share something good that happened during this quarantine :)
That's awesome! 👍💪
Hi Steve,
Was looking at some of your older videos and cam across one where you were touring your projects. I'd not seen it before so thanks for that.
The thing is, in that video, you said something like " Here's an old dictionary stand that I made; I'm probably gonna get rid of that sometime soon". That was date-stamped 2015!!! LOL!!
You could always go for nostalgia, paint a big arrow on you roof pointing towards an airport, with the name of the airport painted below the arrow.
I think you say roof the correct way, just like what a dog says, woof!
"I get dizzy just being this tall" -- LOL!!
If I lived in a cooler climate, I'd definitely paint my house black. But in hot Southern California, light exterior colors are your friend.
for wet paint brushes if using again soon -wrap in in store plastic bag. Then put in plastic coffee can with seal lid. Keeps good for several weeks.
You could combine the haunted house and the roof message by painting a giant ouija board on the roof. Let the house make its own message. 😂 Plus you'll get so many more comments.
i use leftover particle boards and plywood for shop projects
Those shades of white start making sense when you put them next to things! A yellow white looks cozy and nice next to wood but terrible next to metal. A blue white on a wall can make some people look ghastly but combines well with concrete and metal. This depends on the undertone, meaning the color which was mixed with pure white to get there. It actually happened to me a couple times that I used the wrong white and my furniture and my skin looked terrible next to it 😂
First a ouija board now the bloody pentagram with skull. You may be dabbling in more than woodworking mate. 😆🤣😂
I'm half-kidding. Thanks for all the great skill building videos. They're an especially welcomed distraction from the twilight zone / 1984 nightmare we're in.
Thanks again for all you do. 👍🏾
In the Caribbean we say "Ruff" - So it's definitely a word!
On designs on the roof One of the Target stores in Brisbane Australia had a large Target logo painted on the roof. It was at the request of the FAA here and it was a sighter for pilots flying on their way to Brisbane International Airport.
Watching UA-cam all day, every day...
The second more experience plywood you showed was Baltic Birch. There use to be an "apple core" plywood that looked very similar to Baltic Birch but they stopped making it and now use Baltic Birch and cover it with a different veneer and relabel it.
Ruuf message. This page is Intentionally left blank.
Thanks for the daily vids. Very enjoyable.
There is a house in Oxford that has/had a Shark diving in through the roof. I would love something like that. It a 3D model not painted on.
Thanks Steve!
I like the Ziploc bag. I've always used a regular plastic grocery bag and put it in the fridge if I'm not painting until the next day. It's supposed to slow the paint drying, but that could be a myth. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep doing it though 😅
Nice progress Steve! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
A better choice would be, in white paint, for the roof of the house, "See Rock City". Tennessee might even sponsor you for a while.
You should write "Help!" on your roof... and see what happens...
I love my dates with you, Steve. Very inspiring...
Roof message: "Welcome to Amsterdam".
WWMM is the only thing for the roof.
Hey Steve I subscribed to your Chanel a week ago and it’s been so much fun watching your videos. I live in Northern Cal and I really love your California map that you have on your wall. Do you happen to have a video on how you made it?
@4:44 "This roof intentionally left blank" :)
If you put your bagged roller and brushes in the refrigerator, they will stay wet longer, I've used them up to a week later or so.
G’day mate, I’m pretty sure you made the wallaby thing up. I’m a hand tool only worker but still am enjoying these vids.
I am always so amazed that Steve does everything so neatly, from sawing to gluing to painting. Either he's very neat, or it comes with experience, or I am just the messiest woodworker there is. I am always so covered with glue and sawdust or paint and stain when I'm done in the shop that I look like an old Looney Tunes character who got tarred and feathered.
I know that feeling well😂😂😂
I use a damp paper towel and roll up my wet brushes in them. It saves the bristles from getting crimped up when you try and slide them in bags and keeps the handles clean.
I freeze mine if I won’t be painting the next day. Just be sure to allow for thawing. A little extra paint on the brush helps, too.
Nice pseudo-Columbo quote!
“I don’t even like being this tall!” - Columbo
Red trimmed black house! Wow
keep em coming! as always great videos!
You would have to much fun in a haunted house. Lol. Love ur workout dedication.
Steve it is nice to see you making daily videos. I missed your face.
Hey Jack! Great to hear from you!
I've got a "chew mailpouch tobacco" painted on the roof of a barn just on the edge of town. Easily visible from freeway. Hahaha
Or See 7 States from Rock City?
Should definitely make a WWMM logo for the roof
I have noticed this a lot on any and all woodworking channels: If you were to nail those back panels in using a hammer it would maybe 18 or so nails at the most. But using a nailer one uses 102!
I'm from Toronto and my favourite uncle was from Vienna Virginia, and he pronounced roof...ruff, so please keep saying it that way.
