    I was really hoping you would tell your height and weight and size of jacket.

    • @JimLBon

      6’ 2.5” 250lbs. Size 48 chest. The jacket is an XL. The jacket is oversized one size to accommodate layering. If you want a tighter fit at my size get an L. The Filson is a size 50 and the fit is similar between them.

      @@stepabove2136 Awesome! On the WW website the sizes they list in the size charts are the actual measurements of the garment and not the US standard size. For example, as a size 48 chest on the WW website I’d probably want one that is 50” or 51”. The size chart explains this but I thought I’d point it out anyway because I can’t shut up.

    GREAT REVIEW! all these features blend in so well most people don't realize everything this jacket can do. I have the same one. I love it.

    WOW! --- Really well done. You don't seem to be someone who's never done video reviews before. Congrats!! We really appreciate you choosing our products, and of course many thanks for the effort and time that goes into doing the review! --- Ralph

    I got the Filson mackinaw cruiser lined jacket. I looked at WW but I didn’t like the cape or the price. Great video, thanks!

      There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a Filson wool jacket. If Weatherwool didn’t exist, Filson wool would be what I use. I actually still use Filson wool. It’s great stuff.

    So, question here - I'm a tall lanky dude - hopefully a medium in Weatherwool - Sz 40 chest but really prefer jackets near a 46 - would a large work best for this with some layering or a medium would be sufficient?

    • @JimLBon
      @JimLBon  Рік тому

      You should ask Weatherwool. I don’t give sizing advice. Maybe there’s someone else who will, but approaching Weatherwool directly seems like the best idea.

    I was really excited about these shirts and jackets. But it only took a visit to their website to realize the prices are far outside of anything I could afford. They look like great products but not on my pension! Congrats, and nice video.

      I hear you. If you can track down a second hand Filson, or you can call one of Filson's factory outlets and they'll ship you one of their products at a much lower price for a very good product.

    As a Welshman I confirm I always appreciate a hug from a sheep! Nice review man. Take a look at the Woolrich hunting coat. Also a good coat in this group.

      The Welsh may hug their sheep, but here in New Zealand we flip them over so we can kiss them as well. 😊

    You said it was a comparison, but it sounded more like a beatdown than a comparison to me. You seamed to redeem yourself at the end though. I just bought the filson limited edition mackinaw Cape coat and it's a beautiful coat. But up here in Canada I paid just over 1000k for it. You said it's about 850 US for the weather wool. That's probably 1500$ coat up here. I'll check it out for sure, but I think that I'll be more than happy with my filson Cape coat for many years to come. Thanks for your review.

    • @JimLBon

      Weatherwool is objectively a better product in every way. Doesn’t make Filson a bad product or even an inadequate one. Still, it is a beat down. I had and still have and use a lot of Filson wool. It’s good stuff but it isn’t Weatherwool. Not even close. And Filson has more of my money than WW.

      @@JimLBon I went on their website Jim and read all their articles and I can see why weather wool clothing is rated so high, with their wool that they manufacture clothing products with. Even down to their buttons and thread. I don't know weather to thank you or curse you, because now you've really put the hook in me with weather wool. I'm looking at my new Cape coat right now and it is a beautiful coat, I can't find the slightest flaw in the stitching or the material anywhere. My wife freaking out that I plan on taking it to deer camp in the fall ,but that's what I bought it for. Yeah looking like I'm going start saving again for the weather wool all around coat. There's no law that says I can't have both. Thanks Jim.

    I’m going to ask a sizing question. I have the shirt jac and Al’s anorak in large, they fit fine but not much room to layer underneath. I’m going to buy an all around jacket, do I go large or upsize for layering?

    • @JimLBon
      @JimLBon  2 роки тому

      Well in the shirt Jac and anorak I’m an XL. The size of AAJ that would fit me similarly is an L. If you’re an L in the anorak I would assume the L size AAJ will run big on you. Compare the sizing charts on the website

      @@JimLBon Well, I ended up getting an lynx XL for a good price off of the fleabay. For a little more than the new price of a anorak. The XL was a good fit.

      @@coyotesnipe The last time I checked out this vid, I did not see this exchange. This was exactly what I needed to know. I have the Al's Anorak in L, and it fits just like you say. I will order the XL AAJ.

    I just learned about the brand. I live in western WA too, and finding a jacket that can be worn in weather swings from 55 and sunny to 40 and raining and can breath is difficult to find. I am about your size 6'3" and 270 so I think the XXL will work.

    • @JimLBon
      @JimLBon  2 роки тому +1

      The XL on me is what I would call the perfect fit for layering. The L would be a perfect fit without layering.

    Would you recommend the anorak with a heavy wool sweater underneath as a replacement for this

    • @JimLBon
      @JimLBon  2 роки тому

      They’re very different. In terms of performance, I can’t account for individual differences amongst people. In my case, the AAJ works better than the anorak.

      @@JimLBon it definitely suits you the most..
      Its by far the garment of the three that looks the best on you.
      I thought it would be more than ample for most people to deal with a winter.
      The extra expense of the jacket maybe not necessary. Not that much of a difference and it doesn't look better?

      For simply battling the cold AAJ definitely looks like the way to go. The Anorak looks like it gives up some of its warmth protection for the benefit of it not being unwieldy for hiking mountains, crawling around like Rambo, or doing any other activity under the sun. I mean I guess you can also do that stuff in the AAJ but it would be more stiff and jam up your dexterity. That’s my impression. I mean just look at the weight comparison, 5 lbs vs 3 lbs 7 ounces in size L. And for warmth the drawstring to cinch up the waste on the AAJ is HUGE!!

    • @sticky8579
      @sticky8579 2 роки тому

      @@joebuck4496 yes I agree. Updrafts especially for people that don't fill out the anorak as well in the belly maybe an issue?

      Without a doubt. It's just plain stupid what this tank of a jacket can handle. I'm not sure how it would respond to thick brambles on a regular basis, but other than relatively harsh abrasion regularly I'd say this is the toughest jacket I've ever had. Hard to believe it's wool.
