- In Season 3 of Game of Thrones, Thoros of Myr turns up, performs a resurrection, and isn't seen again. Who is this guy? Where does he come from? How is he involved with Robert Baratheon, Beric Dondarrion, and Lady Stoneheart?

It’s kind of tragic that Thoros saving his friend, a good and selfless thing, ends up creating Lady Stoneheart and killing said friend in the process. You get the feeling from his brief reappearance in the latter books just how much he’s lost hope under her.

I've always loved Thoros in the show , even if he apparently gets lost like Gendry, who is now condemned to keep rowing, keeping the land on his left, circling around Dragonstone... forever.

maybe true faith comes from where it's least expected.
True desperation. Thoros was desperate to bring back Beric, not sure that it would be done through the power of his Lord. Same goes for Mel in the show (and probably in the book).
because probably is not their god who revives, but the priest with their own power.
all the oposite i would say, a "new" red priest who has seen visions, has fait in his capabilities, melisandre is coocky and smug, she believes she knows who is who and what is going to happen, but after they lose that certainty, they might do the ritual not because they "know" the will of the god, not because they "know" he will resurrect his choosen, but because they "hope" it will, having no confidence in themself or their powers, just the thinnest hope that it will work, not because they predicted, but because it would be the best for humanity
Yeah he never even sacrificed anyone or even got people into the religion and he’s more powerful then Melisandre mainly cause he can bring people back from the dead

For me, "Thoros of Myr" is one of my favorites names in the whole "A Song of Ice and Fire" books, i really like it, and as a character in the books he's great. Thank u for this, love your videos

Thoros has always been one of my favorite characters. First you think he uses a magic sword in the melee. Then you find out he uses wildfire. Then Dondarrion lights his sword by cutting his hand.
That scene is so fucking cold
I find it really messed up that they resurrected Catelyn. Don't get me wrong, I love it as a plot point in the story and I really wish the show had included it. But Catelyn had just seen her son get stabbed at the Red Wedding, she'd lost her husband and both her youngest boys (or so it was believed). The Brotherhood even mentioned that she'd been dead for a few days when they found her, which is why she's so twisted now. She couldn't speak after she was resurrected, and was nothing like herself. It really would've been kinder to let her stay dead, when they knew she'd lost nearly all of her family and had already been dead for a few days. Let her be with Ned and Robb.

This is why this series is so amazing. A small side character who really should only be used to show people can be resurrected, is turned into someone with an amazing story and character arc. Hell a film about Thoros would be phenomenal and he is in the novel's for such a short time.
It's interesting how Thoros was able to bring Beric back without having to sacrifice anyone. And he's done it many times. Sure, Beric lost memories each time but that's hardly the same as giving up a life.
+KingOfMadCows ikr, it makes the red milf seem less powerful too, not being able to practice magic without huge offerings. lives, kings blood eg.
But is it his life? Maybe it's more lending a bit of life, until he accomplishes what the god wants him to do. Would be why he is losing his memory etc.
@@JustNatax3 Maybe because she was misinterpreting the visions? Thoros resurects Beric easily because the red god wants Beric. Melisandre is wrong about Stannis being the Azor Ahai so she is not actually serving the god's plan. So it makes sens that she would need more powerful stuff.
I think the casualties at the Mummer's Ford might've counted as a sacrifice, similar to Patchface and the other passengers on Steffon Baratheon's ship. The subsequent resurrections could be fueled by the same magic as the first time, which would explain Beric's deterioration.
Maybe it's not just memories but cognitive ability that he loses thus why Beredic kept dying every fight because he wasn't as well rounded as a Warrior before he was killed the first time.

I think he will save Jamie Lannister when Stoneheart decides to kill him. Every one of Jamie's supposed crimes have been reactions to the world around him, like Catelyn taking Tyrion which led Tywin to retaliate with war and for Jamie to join him after attacking Ned. All crimes save one. Pushing Bran out the window. She knows he did it, and nothing will deter her from killing him for that. Jamie's life is forfeit, but I think in an effort to save himself, when everyone ridicules him as the dishonourable Kingslayer, he will tell the Brotherhood about how Aerys was going to burn everyone in King's Landing alive. I think when Brienne confirms Jamie already told her this, he will believe it, and save Jamie before Stoneheart manages to kill him.
Or save him after Stoneheart kills him

+WiseSilverWolf True. I was immensely disappointed how they didn't bring her in to finish off season 4, or at least start off season 5. Instead we get some dumbass retribution story with Brienne, which completely goes against George RR Martins writing and his universe.

So I think something happened behind the scenes there, and thats why lady stoneheart didn't appear.

+rdecredico GRRM really lost his balls in the last couple of books. One of the great things about them was that anybody could die at any time, so everything felt consequential. But GRRM doesn't actually kill people any more. He just pretends to. Brienne, Podrick, Jon, Davos, the Hound... the list goes on and on. He couldn't even kill any of the minor characters in Mereen. And then characters started coming back, like Stoneheart. It has completely devalued the series.

I think he'll cause a mutiny in the Brotherhood by fighting on the side of Jaime alongside Brienne. This mutiny will bring a trial of band vs band in something mirroring to Cersei's possible trial of seven. It'd be a hellish end from a once godly group.

if I'm not mistaken (currently rereading the series.) in a Brienne chapter in ADoD towards the end, the brotherhood captures Brienne and pod, and Catelyn thinks finds out that she's not held up her oath. so as the chapter ends it describes then being set up and noosed, but it doesn't tell whether they are hung or not.

So the ultimate purpose of Show!Thoros was to keep Beric and the Brotherhood going long enough to teach Melisandre that revival was possible and help Jon go north of the Wall. After that, his mission had ended. Show!Beric's purpose was at least to warn others of the fall of the Wall and the rise of the Blue Eyes Wight Dragon, if not anything more. They both also helped smallfolk along the way.
The ultimate purpose of Book!Beric was to help give life to Lady Stoneheart. We have yet to see what her and Book!Thoros' ultimaet purposes are. I have a feeling they involve Arya and Jon.

Not really. Catelyn was also vengeful and hateful when she was alive. She openly despised Jon even as a child simply for being her husband's bastard, and she wanted Tyrion tried and executed for Bran's fall without any real evidence that he did it simply because he was the easiest person to blame. Stoneheart was Catelyn's existing personality freed from the constraints she had in life.
