  • I find it best to notch a shower curb to allow tile to slide behind and on top. This way your edging will go from edge of curb and above.👌

Why to put it behind the curb, that just create a grout joint that will suck water. It is better to put it on top.

Hey Steve, just curious, why not install the wall tile first then the curb top? That way no need for notches. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on that approach.

It's harder to do it this way, but it's better. Because when the water runs down the wall, it gets kicked out especially with a sealed system. Try to keep the water away with a sealed system in the corners and doing it this way, when the water runs down the wall, it gets kicked out, otherwise it'll go behind the curb faster

If the tile runs outside the shower curb can go on after ... or cut tiles to match curb profile

I guess that works, I've never seen anybody cut a curb like that, why didn't you just cut the tile around the curb? And if the tile is stuck behind the curb cut, then you don't have wiggle room to make it flat with your bullnose crosswise. Your tile cut will be stuck inside your curb. Without much movement or play.

I was planning to use schluter curb. Do I need to replace tile on floor next to curb to waterproof ( with Kerdiband) curb to floor transition? Or to ensure proper waterproofing in bathroom , should I replace all floor tile with ditra/ new tile. I’m ok spending the time and money if the lifetime reliability improvements are significant. Your videos are great! Thanks

So yes, to do it correctly, have warranty, and be waterproof you are going to want to replace everything with ditra and new tile. There really isn’t a great way to tie things into existing tile work. However having the outside floor completely waterproof Is a great benefit, but not something that’s a must. As long as the shower is 100% waterproof that’s most important
      Thanks 👍

Gut it all and start fresh! It’s not much more expensive and you know what is going down and what’s underneath

Hey man can you give me some advice? I got a glass door that has metal brackets that are supposed to screw down to the curb to hold the glass. My problem is that I'm using the laticrete waterproof sheet membrane over the curb, then the tile will go directly on this. I do not want to screw down into the sheet membrane. What would you do or suggest? Also my tile is currently 3/8 inch wide, but I'm thinking of going with a 1/2 inch wide tile and then just using anchor and screws, with epoxy to only penetrate into the tile and not the sheet membrane.

So the curb itself is not waterproofed
To the walls? How could it be if there are notches to “slide tile behind”? Total FAIL. Plus running a grinder inside a finished home? The cleaning lady is gonna love ya.
