I've always used 90% isopropyl or acetone to remove glue and gunk with no petrolium residue left behind. Never thought of using carb cleaner! Super convenient in a spray can.
Awesome video! When I use stencils I tape them together and use paper on them just like you but I don't tape the stencils down I use heavy duty magnets to hold them down. It works great when you need to use the same stencil over and over again.
Good reply. And I have successfully told Cody how to get strong magnets out of a dead microwave oven. You can see one on the breaker box on the wall. It is the dark circle. These are excellent, free magnets. But "ground" the capacitor before going too deep into the microwave, to prevent getting shocked. If you wish, these magnets can be broken into quarters. They are still good and strong, even when smaller. I keep an eye out for malfunctioning microwaves, and have several magnets. They are also good in your tool box, on your workbench, etc. Some guys appreciate them as a gift.
My Grandfather would come home from work every day and wash the bugs off the front end of his car, then go directly to the basement and brush all his clothes to clean them. My Grandparents were very poor but my Grandfather said you don't have to look and act poor. Caring for his cloths and his car every day contributed to his success with never showing how little money they had. I learned allot from him when i was young.
Love it that you are using the clicks. I sold them for years in my pharmacy and sold hardly any as only thinking people buy them They brilliant if a bit geeky!
Little magnets on top of the stencil really help hold it down (eliminating the bleed out around each letter). We used stencils for years on our heavy equipment.
I've found stencil kits at big box home improvement stores. Usually with the mailboxes and driveway marker sticks. They work great and are almost infinitely reusable.
I've spent alot of time at those dunes in Florence! Alot of great memories with my grand parents. They are both gone now but just seeing that quick highlight brought back some great thoughts of the past. Very cool.
So have been looking for metal cans for awhile. Thanks for doing the hard choices. Bought 3 scratch and dent gasoline red metal. Room temperature in house and big labels pealed off in one piece so clean you could have reused them. No residue. Bought 4 pack deal of water cans too. I do like a quality round or more square can so more stable but doubt they would be this quality. Oh, and one of the cans actually had a little dent that looks like it happened before paint.
Just made a baby version of this for my garden tools. 10L can purchased from 🇬🇧 Simply Bearings UK was great to work with. Ordering was a bit didgey, but service shipping and product are so far, top notch. ALM branded Valpro cans same as Wavian
Yellow on green for the classic can look. I like to tape the stencil to the paper and then use magnets to hold it on the can for quick placement and removal. Particular if you are doing the same stencil on multiple.
If you don't have frog tape close at hand and only have white masking tape that you want to use temporarily you can press the masking tape a few times against your shirt to pick up some of the fibres and make it less sticky. I've done this tonnes of times with watercolour paper and I rarely get tear out when peeling the tape off after the paint is dry.
If you only add the oil once it wouldn’t be 25:1 it would be 100:1- keep in mind this is from a East coast guy so I might not be a valuable source haha
something to help with that flare you can put a bit of rubber cement on the back so it partly adheres to the can but can still peel off, kind of like a post it note .
Well... Thanks for giving such good advises to us who are only learning to do things the right way. For I did use the chance to grow up, remembering your advice from some time ago. Not to mention that I accepted the Scripture as my guide. So I left my parents home and got to go living with my friends from the church. It is a blessing like no other, even though sometimes I felt very inadequate for the job. Since I was always having this problem with confidence. Not to mention that I am a bit anemic for the last few months. But the videos you made that have so many good advises saved me so much time and effort so the place we live at is starting to feel like home. It was pretty trashed when we got in. And I do have to add that by the Divine intervention I found a company that makes totally natural supplements that helped me get my health back on track. Siberian wellness is the name and they have some remedies for eyesight as well. My parents got to using them as well for they have been having the same problem as you are. Anyways thanks again for your help and support. You are of more help than I can find words for.
industrial hemp growing is great for the soil, they may have been in a hurry to prep, grow, harvest the field ready to get the hemp crop all done so that they can pull it up and grow "normal plants" next season
If your using the ratio right to mix 5 gallons at 50:1 (50 parts gas to 1 part oil) and you only do it once your mix would be 100:1 not 25:1. Glad this east coast guy could help you out. 😂
After buying a battery electric saw, even heating with wood, I use less than a gallon per year of mixed fuel. I love the premixed fuel, use only premix now, and keep a few gallons on hand.
When we make mix we always put a little gas in first then the oil and shake it up, then add the rest of the gas. Supposed to give it a more even mix by diluting the oil first. Don’t have any idea if it is any better or not, just the way dad always said to do it.
i work in equipment rental and our experiences with the premix fuel in the 1-2 pint and 1 gallon cans is bad they won't ruin your saw but if your saw is not in perfect running order then it will be extremely hard to start if not impossible because they use 91 oct and 94 oct and those low compression engines don't seem to like that stuff especially at elevations over 5000 feet at least that's our experiences with the makita saws and echo saws
Past 4 years Iv been using that husqvarna pre mix and when it’s time to start cutting I’ll go get 4 cans and and that last me all year in my weed eaters and a little use in my chainsaw! Of course I only have 5 acres but I do a lot of weedeating around oak trees and sheds and house and trailers and camper and boats
13:16 CBD is quite the rage right now and that hemp could be worth more than you think if they plan on extracting CBD oil from it. Hemp will go for about $40 a pound for it's CBD. It's the modern-day snake oil. On the other hand....
Right now in Kentucky high quality hemp farms raising high cbd content hemp are showing revenue around $50k to $60k per acre. It’s big business and labor intensive but pay offs are huge right now
Great video Cody. Have you considered purchasing a side by side? Not necessarily a sporty one like the YXZ or Razor but more along the line of utility version with open back and winch. I think it would be a great piece of equipment for the homestead.
One thing you can do to minimize the bleed is to glue on the stencils with a light coat of rubber cement. Then you can peel them off and remove in excess glue.
Hey Cody, maybe they're growing that hemp to make rope ? Just throwing that idea out there. I still own some hemp rope that my grandfather had in the farm and boy, that thing is indestructible ! There used to be fields and fields of hemp grown in France and Belgium in the 1700's to produce the ropes used in the Navy.
I doubt it's for rope which is all that hemp used to be used for. It's for the CBD oil that is touted as a medical miracle, but cannabis is illegal in most states, so hemp oil is just as good, right? There is definitely a lucrative market for many snake oils and other alternative medicines.
Well, they used the hemp to make clothing, insulation, food, oil and many different things. It was huge until the beginning of the twentieth century. There's not enough CBD in hemp, and definitely no THC, so I doubt they grew it for that but we can't be sure.
You are correct, but the strong association of hemp with cannabis sativa is enough to allow the promotion of hemp oil as a "safe legal alternative" to CBD and especially the evil THC. I can't think of any other market unless this smallholding is really growing cannabis in plain sight. Who uses hemp to make rope and caulk boat hulls these days?
Guys like Cody make things like they used to ^^ but whatever, I wasn't there I can't say. It was just an idea, and a pretext to talk about good ropes !
If you don’t have any carb cleaner handy(say East coast), I’ve found that if if you keep reapplying parts of the sticker that you have already removed, over and over, to the residue, it will eventually come off.
Here's a tip for you... to get those sticky labels off of those cans and other items, just soak a rag in some turpentine or even kerosene, wring out just the excess but make sure the rag is well soaked, then lay it over the label. Let it sit there for 15 or 20 minutes, then come back and not only does the paper label pill right off very easily, but all the gummy residue will wipe off Easley with that rag you have soaked.
I recently read a report that a hemp farmer had his two sons shot at by thieves stealing hemp from his fields. BTW, what was the make of that neck knife? Aside from the Kydex sheath being a little loose, that was very nice!
Wranglerstar, Hemp is big now, very big. Could have been for a CBD farm, so not your typical industrial hemp. If that is the case, there is a lot of money to be made. Tribes of Native Americans have begun to change over to Hemp on their land. Major farms in TX, OKC, the Northwest. In the industry:p
Industrial hemp production has increased exponentially in the Willamette Valley. They do sell the “non-industrial” biproducts to legal wholesale markets.
Cody will you be able to get an adapter for your fuel pump to work with the Jerry cans? Because that’s a great little pump and to good to get rid of with the plastic cans. Perhaps make an adaptation neck if one isn’t available?
*I'm from Florid, what do you mean an east coast guy could understand? What does MIX stand for? I thought you were stenciling so you dont mix them up?*
Commenting as I watch: 1. I usually heat up a container of water and let the cans sit in it while I do the prep work. 2. I hate it when the masking tape gets "old" and comes off in tiny pieces instead of unrolling. 3. I like mineral spirits for removing cheap Chinese sticker adhesive. It melts it, and removes it easily. Acetone melts it, but it smears around instead of coming off. Starting fluid works, too, but then your can is empty when you need it to start something. 4. I use glue stick (like grade-schoolers use) to make the middle part of the stencil stick to the part. It sticks well, doesn't mess up the stencil, and cleans up with a damp rag. 5. It'd be 100:1 if you only did one thing of oil. Math on video. Gets you every time! ;o) 6. IF you stabilize gasoline, it's supposed to be good for a year, but unstabilized gas starts to break down after 30 days, or so, if I recall correctly. 7. Marijauna is Hemp. Obviously, cultivation techniques are different if you're just wanting the fibers for industrial purposes, and not the buds for recreational purposes. It sounds like they were going for the buds. Queue up "Copperhead Road".
First off, I really enjoy your videos. But to address the hemp plants, the 2018 farm bill now allows for hemp licensing. It basically made CBD oils extracted from hemp plants legal for pharmaceutical use. As you already know, where the pharmaceutical companies are, there is big dollars. Hemp is projected to be one of the most profitable cash crops within the next few years, mostly because there is little waste. After oils are extracted, the fibers are still intact to be used for twine, cordage etc. All over Oregon and Northern California, where I’m from, large family farms are plowing under their hay crops and planting hemp. Just thought I could add some insight.
Hey Cody, do you plan on building some sort of racks for transporting the fuel cans on the various vehicles? Please do a video on it if you do! Also, I have to agree with others about labeling the cans on the ends. It saves confusion if someone is in a rush for some reason and is unfamiliar with the color coding system 🤔. 🇺🇸😎
I can testify to getting all the dirt and grime off before going into the house. I worked in the coal mines and the shower I had downstairs was messed up. I didn't think anything about it went upstairs and took a shower in the regular house shower. The next morning all hell broke loose. After 14 years of marriage I can say I have never taken another shower in the house shower with that much dirt and coal dust on.
Some time ago you went on about the electric pumps for your gas cans. Is that something you are forgoing with this new system? or is there a way of attaching that to these new cans?
Cody what is your thoughts and experience with that battery fuel pump. I've seen a lot of negative reviews online but you still have yours. What are your thoughts?
As someone in California that grows that is so funny to hear the way you described what they were doing. Industrial hemp looks like a corn field btw all the plants super close. Unless its CBD cannibas which means the THC%is less than 3% its medical only and then is classified as hemp. So they might have been growing medical marijuana. But who knows...
Great info, thank you. Question, do the metal Jerry Cans have restrictions, (they come with different colors) for storage liquids, specially gasoline or diesel? Thanks in advance for response. Tad.
I'm curious to see what the deployment plan is for fueling saws and other small gas engine tools. I can't imagine doing it straight from one of the jerrycans is practical.
Your math was backwards at the 7:15 mark. A 50:1 mix means 50 oz of gas for each 1 oz of oil, which is 2.6 oz of oil for 1 gallon (128 oz) of gas. If you are aiming for a 50:1 mix, but only put in half the amount of oil, the result is a 50:1/2 mix, which is the same as a 100:1 mix. A 25:1 mix would be stronger (more oil) than a 50:1 mix, using twice the amount of oil.
Cody, I left a question on the previous video about the motor of the electric transfer pump fitting in the military style cans. I know they do not fit in the cheap ones, what about the ones you purchased? I also have a couple of the new poly type fuel cans from the military. Do you have any experience with them?
That roll of pre-taped paper is badass!! First time I have ever seen one of those, but of course I am on the east coast. Also on the east coast we would have just used the 25:1 ratio instead of pouring twice........ :-)
Would you use your fuel supply as a buffer? That is, use fuel out of them from oldest to newest and refill them as you use it? Or just let them sit for a year or so and then refresh it?
I've always used 90% isopropyl or acetone to remove glue and gunk with no petrolium residue left behind. Never thought of using carb cleaner! Super convenient in a spray can.
Handy. We hand-painted ours on the narrow side so we could identify them when they're racked. I like the idea of using a stencil, looks neater.
Awesome video! When I use stencils I tape them together and use paper on them just like you but I don't tape the stencils down I use heavy duty magnets to hold them down. It works great when you need to use the same stencil over and over again.

Goo Gone works great on getting the sticker adhesive residue off.
WD-40 is also good.
Lighter fluid works
Those Eraser pads used for cleaning work great as well, only need water.

W-D 40 works great for removing that sticky gum from the labels
Where you get that fuel pump looks very handy
That little pump is cool
It's always the cheapest stickers on the quality stuff just to tantalize us.
Great video and marriage advice!
At about 9 minutes you use a fuel transfer pump to move fuel from one can to another. Brand? Model? Thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks!
If you were at Florence on Sunday I probably saw you! Enjoy the vids, got to love local content!
Cody, I left a question on the previous video about the motor of the electric transfer pump fitting in the military style cans. I know they do not fit in the cheap ones, what about the ones you purchased? I also have a couple of the new poly type fuel cans from the military. Do you have any experience with them?
fill ratio rite to 25:1 on the 2.5gal column for 50:1 for 5gal
Thanks for showing your process!
Just make sure to fill them with ethanol free gas to avoid water-phase separation and corrosion issues.
That roll of pre-taped paper is badass!! First time I have ever seen one of those, but of course I am on the east coast. Also on the east coast we would have just used the 25:1 ratio instead of pouring twice........ :-)
East Coast guys don't know about masking machines,
That woulda give you guys 100:1 though, like he was kinda saying :)
@@mikaso You might want to work on your math skills.
What was that item stuck in the transfer can that pumped out the gas into the mix can?? That looked neat. Where did u get it?
Would you use your fuel supply as a buffer? That is, use fuel out of them from oldest to newest and refill them as you use it? Or just let them sit for a year or so and then refresh it?
