    hey, two years ago I wrote a comment on your psychagogue upload where I said it was one of the only things I was able to enjoy at that moment in my life and to which Lev responded with a very heartfelt message wishing me that things would get better for me. two years later, I can actually say that they have, even though at the time, it seemed like they never would. I really thought I wouldn't be here by now. and yet I actually got my illnesses under control and I somehow live a happy life now, amid so much suffering in the world. I'm grateful for the music that you've made which has kept me going. thank you, thank you, thank you.

    I was kind of obsessed at Lyceum times with some iconic releases. I do realize 35 years after, music is unique no matter the genre, to extract you the same feeling. This recording is at least equal, with Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii. Without the slightest intention of joking or exaggeration.

    Hi Colin, I’m curious about your percussion setup, any info about the drums and cymbals you’re using and why you picked those pieces to complement Lev’s kit would be greatly appreciated!

    • @ColinMarstonOmnisound
      @ColinMarstonOmnisound  10 місяців тому +11

      for this album i used a 16" floor tom, 14" snare, 20" china, 6" icebell, and 7" cup chime. same drums but slightly different cymbals used on the previous 2 albums. i don't use any of this at all in this song ironically, but do quite a bit in the other song video i posted for song III: ua-cam.com/video/YUEtaTTTmSU/v-deo.htmlsi=K6DA78G5QHU4ZIhI
      i do the most extra drumming on the album "Psychagogue," especially on the first at last tracks. on "Psychagogue" and "Crystalline Exhaustion" lev doesn't use any cymbals besides hat and ride, so i'm doing all the accent cymbals. for "Porous..." i decided it was time for lev to have a ton of cymbals for once (and i made him play with mallets)! lev just uses whatever you put in front of him, and the two of us have extremely different approaches to drumming, which has made this phase of Krallice very fun.

      @@ColinMarstonOmnisoundThanks for sharing, Colin. The drums sound absolutely godly on here. Toms have got so much attack and depth without being too much. Cymbals sound fucking perfect with that synth, too. Man. Amazing stuff.

    @colin Martson : are you guys playing with metronome when you do live recording like this ?

    • @ColinMarstonOmnisound
      @ColinMarstonOmnisound  Рік тому +22

      no. i'm generally anti-click track for full band recordings. i much prefer to find the tempos by feel, and allow them to ebb and flow naturally. the only time we used a click was for "Forgiveness in Rot," the last song on the first album. at the time it was difficult for Lev to not gradually speed up over those 15 minutes of awkwardly slow blasting. now that we've been playing together for 16 years, the idea of needing a click to get the right feel seems totally insane. clicks are useful for studio experiments where no one is playing together like "All and Nothing" (where we just used the demo version for the album) and "Quadripartite Mirror Realm" (which is like 98% a solo track i made on my own, with some brief overdubs from the boys)

    • @Pravicors_crafts
      @Pravicors_crafts Рік тому +3

      @@ColinMarstonOmnisound thanks for the answer. I try both method with live recording and click track studio recording and this vidéo and comments of your give me more reason to continue recording on a total live aspect. You guys nails it.

    Would it be dumb to suggest that Krallice write an album and then turn over the material over to an orchestra, and conductor to arrange? It seems like amplifiers can take the place of an orchestral section, but that there would be more nuance and subtlety available. I dont know. I only know that i would like to listen to that experiment take place. Logistics aside, that collaboration would be beautiful, powerful. Krallice is already ... frequently moving. Have they thought of this already? Sounds fun and challenging, even from someone just peaking in through the window. I wonder if it could happen. Keep the drummer😅drumming.
