Why should we thanks them? Its their job to protect Singapore since they claimed to be the "master" of the island. They are so coward that they push the Malay to meet their fate while they hide behind them. Shameful indeed. The British General was a pussy. Fight till the end my friend..! Re-capture the reservoirs. They thought by surrendering the Japanese army will let them live.. So naive..

Really nice video and i do like the history's on WW2 but during the WW2 MALAYSIA wasn't formed yet. The battle of "Malaya" & Singapore should be the correct wording even it sound almost the same. The Federation of Malaysia was officially formed only on 16 September 1963 with the merged of The Federation of Malaya, Singapore, North Borneo(Sabah), and Sarawak but Singapore left the federation on 1965. Cheers!!

Hey Tony thanks for the comment. Yes you are totally right, Malaysia should be referred to as Malaya here. My bad, easy to lapse into using the current name, rather than the correct historical one. M

Visiting Singapore and want to know more about historic sites? Or have other recommendations for sites not included? Please leave a comment! And just a correction, Malaysia should be referred to as Malaya here (it's pre 1963 name) rather than Malaysia (thanks to Tony Hii for pointing this out)

Thanks Matt & Nikki 😊. Well it actually quite a sensitive issue for most of our Sabahan and Sarawakian(from the island of Borneo) bcos this Federation(was name as MALAYSIA) was formed out of 3 Nation (Malaya, Sabah & Sarawak) but after some years suddenly the Malaya change it name and became Malaysia(Big Boss) and we Sabah & Sarawak became the servant. Malaya name just gone like that. Vanished!! And also suddenly we been downgraded from a Stage to a stage. Even our oil been control by them and our education study only on they history and so little on our side! In other word we been colonised. That why we like to pinpoint it clearly Malaya is Malaya and Malaya is not Malaysia. Malaysia is the name of our federation. Malaya is 1 of the forming nation just like our nation Sabah and Sarawak. Hope it help. Cheers 😁

Has mankind drawn the appropriate and painful lessons from WWI and WWII?
That beneath the historical grievances of justifying war, are the domestic undercurrents of ambition, pride and power feeding on one another.
This dynamic is still present today.
If not carefully managed or reined in, they can form a combustible mix that can spiral nations into another hemispheric, if not global and total war.
    Lest we forget.

The British could have been more successful had they armed the locals in greater numbers. Other than the Malay Regiment, the only other local troops who fought were the poorly armed Chinese volunteers of Dalforce. These guys were given only shotguns and a handful of bullets. They were nicknamed Dalley's Desperados after their commander, Police Lt Col Dalley

They didn't need more men, they needed quality, fresh men and better equipment and supply. Errors that led to the fall of Signapore can be traced back to the 1930s and the "stop and start" nature of the construction of the defences.
Also the British did not believe that an attack from the land would be likely and also massively underestimated the quality of the Japanese Military due to their believed racial infereriority
