    I've only just run across you channel, after following a lot of other cooking channels, I've finally found one that captures everything I need! You combine great recipes of delicious food with stunning visuals and simple instruction. Top that off with showing us the final product and simple plating solutions and you're onto a winner. I also like that you generally make small portions suitable for one or two people, it makes such a difference to so many other cooking shows out there. So thanks Byron, I'm going to run through your back catalogue and look forward to new recipes!

    I'm being honest here. I can't cook whatever recipes you have shown cos I'm on a diet. But, even though I can't eat them, I don't really care cause watching people like you cook is somehow like a mind therapy for me. Best food therapy ever w/o the calories hahaha.

    • @FairyLizzie
      @FairyLizzie 11 років тому +44

      "Lasagne" is just the plural form of "Lasagna". We say both (in Italy, I mean) but "Lasagne" is the proper form to use, grammatically. (I'm Italian, btw)

    • @silviatoniolonutrizione
      @silviatoniolonutrizione 11 років тому +26

      Hi I'm Italian and "lasagna" is the one rectangular noodle, "lasagne" is the plural. We use "lasagne" for the dish :).

    • @iouahada
      @iouahada 11 років тому +2

      I also think Lasagne is probably the way french people would say it...

    • @ByronTalbott
      @ByronTalbott  11 років тому +49

      This was the best explanation I've seen regarding the big "Lasagna vs Lasagne" debate.
      For the flat, wide pasta and the dish made from such pasta, North American English speakers use lasagna. English speakers from outside North America usually use lasagne.
      The word comes from Italian, of course. In that language, lasagna is the singular noun and lasagne is the plural, but this does not carry over into the words’ treatment in English. Both the plural and the singular forms are usually treated as mass nouns, taking singular verbs.
      The word first appeared in English in the 19th century, but the dish did not become popular in English-speaking countries (the U.S. first, then elsewhere) until the second half of the 20th century. Both forms have had nearly identical trajectories, in terms of when they appeared and when they grew more common, on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
      Examples:
      Finish with chicken with peppers and sausage or a lasagna with farmers market vegetables, ricotta and tomatoes. [Los Angeles Times]
      One of my favourite dishes is Mum’s cabbage lasagne. [Guardian]
      This classic lasagna is the kind that defines lasagna in the USA: ruffle-edged noodles, creamy ricotta and mozzarella filling, and a rich tomato sauce. [The New Lasagna Cookbook, Maria Brucino Sanchez]
      The original intent was it be on foods that are risky after the date, perhaps a chilled lasagne. [New Zealand Herald]
      The lauded Canadian coffee-and-doughnut company launched fast-food lasagna bowls in October, and espresso drinks in December. [CBC]
      The lasagne is well worth ploughing through. [Lonely Planet Scotland]

    Aww man! Wish this video existed last week when I made Lasagna! All of the youtube recipes I found, required me to simmer the meat sauce for 2-3 hours which was a pain in the butt considering I WAS STARVING and just wanted to make a quick simple meal. I'll have to give this recipe a try next time! Thanks for the simple recipe :)

  • @Lozza2301

    New subscriber and first watch! When I make lasagne I used about 8 pots (god knows how!), end up with cheese sauce in my hair and spend 20 minutes trying to think of the best way to layer it. I'm a good cook but I find it one of the most stressful things to make. You make it look like a casual affair! Gah! I'm not entirely sold on your layering or your ingredients but I frigging loved the video! Also if I made that size of lasagne..my boyfriend would ask what I was having for dinner. Go big or go home!

    Meanwhile, nine years later, it's absolutely delicious. I have a family recipe that I have been using for the past fifty years, and everybody here on the family compound uses it. I saw this vid and I made an 8 x 8 batch, just enough for a nibble each, and tried it out on the fam...a hit. The new family recipe! Thanks.

  • @kalethsrealm9513

    A normal bolognese sauce for the lasagne is enough. Before meat is Cooked through add some red wine. If you increase water content in your sauce you don't need to precook the sheets and Lasagna is going to be aldente. Also no ricotta.. But Bechamel. Some recipes in italia add also cooked ham, hard boiled egg slices, peas, but is mostly in South Italy where lasagne are "taller and richer of ingredients".

    • @arianna4129
      @arianna4129 9 років тому

      Right!! I am pretty sure this is in fact a rather americanized (?) version of the original lasagne. That pesto-cheese mixture is total news for me (I'm italian). But it probably tastes good anyway...

    • @kalethsrealm9513
      @kalethsrealm9513 9 років тому

      can't get wrong with pesto:) pasta with pesto have only small variances around italy. some add a boiled potato smashed in it to make the pesto sauce thicker and creamier. but being packed with flavours is better not to add anything else. plus i wouldn't cook pesto as its mostly 90% basil.
