Professional Manure Pit Pumping and Field Application/New Holland Power

  • It's the smelliest day of the year on our small dairy farm. It's the time of the year when Marten's Manurigation comes to empty our manure lagoon and spread that manure onto our crop fields. With fertilizer being so expensive this year, the manure is a stinky, but welcome sight...or rather smell this year. The custom guys utilize a sort of Frankenstein machine with 2 Case IH engines that run the agitator and the pump that pumps the manure through hoses up to the field where a New Holland tractor is waiting to incorporate the manure directly into the soil. The manure is a great way to build up the soil, and Lord willing, help us grow a good corn crop this year. The boys got to see how new technology is helping Marten's be even more efficient with their machines and ensure an even spread of manure over the fields. Another New Holland tractor is in charge of moving the hoses and running the biggest hose reel we've ever seen. Now that the field has some plant food, it's time to start planting corn. A welcome sign of Spring also appeared nearby as we spotted a new fawn waiting for its mother and enjoying the warm sunlight. Marten's make short work of our lagoon and are all packed up and done after just a few hours. Then it's the guessing game of how many total gallons of cattle manure was pumped out.

That lagoon was like money in the bank for fertilizer. That rig that applied it on the field was amazing. Seeing the fawn was really cool

That was a lot of hose they unrolled. Would have made another good guessing contest and interesting to know actual number of feet. First thing I thought was glad I’m not the one that has to pull maintenance on that equipment. It would be a real “crappy” job. Y’all have a blessed memorial weekend and honor those that gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

    Allen and family
I've been watching for awhile, just figured out how to work all this technology. I'm a fellow small dairyman in ncmo. It's nice to see someone that runs older equipment too. I don't know if I would want to run newer equipment nor would I milk more than 50 cows. Looks like a pretty hard treadmill to keep up with. If my kids want to get big that's their choice. I could get out tomorrow and keep the farm. That's a nice feeling when I lay my head down at night. It doesn't matter what the neighbors think. Things usually aren't as rosey on their side of the fence as they would everyone to think. Keep on doing it your way. The people that matter respect what you've accomplished. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Rob

Sometimes custom work is the way to go. Sometimes maintaining that extra equipment that you don't use as often just isn't cost effective. For years we baled the neighbors hay and in return the neighbor combined our oats. Then he passed away and we bought the combine. Whatever works. Quite the set up of this pumping system. I'm desperate for shave and haircut myself. 🧔

Thanks Alan and family for the tutorial on the spreading we have some guys around this area that do that but none close most of the dairyman left at our larger here or using your own tankers or hauling daily. When we milked we hold three times a week in the summer when the cows are outside and everyday in the winter I do not miss that. We got the last of our corn ground covered with stall pack last week and plowed it and it's all planted now to corn. Our spreaders probably won't see much use now until fall when we win the Cavs and bring the mamas back in. But when we milk in the winter we hauled everyday. I have a safe spring we are about to begin hay here in Western PA on our farm some of the guys are still planning corn and some of them are in the Hayfield

Your not joking the value there!Canada?
I set up a technology package inside amateur pumping tractor for a guy. Pumping poop is a smelly nasty business but it is good natural fertilizer. With fert. costs what they are I would use it too if I had it. Those must be some tough hoses. Dragging them over stubble and rocks and general wear and tear. I wonder what the average life expectancy is on them? They should be able to tell you how much they pumped or at least a good gusstimate.
