Flooded In! Flooded Road Has Our Farm Cutoff/Will the Milk Truck Make It?
Вставка

- Well, the weather has been a wild change since our last video! Temps in the 70s have caused the snow in the area to melt so fast that the rivers in the area have risen dramatically. Unfortunately, our farm is located on a dead-end road and also where two rivers meet. The Kettle River is far more powerful, and when it floods, it causes the Moosehorn River to back up. When it backs up, our road floods, which means we are unable to get in or out. It also means our milk truck may not be able to get in or out. If our milk truck can't make it in, we only have 4 days to store our milk before we dump it. The clock is ticking....

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
Don't worry about the negative comments Alan, you and Jenn do a great job with the animals and kids, it takes a lot to be a small farmer like yours. You do the best as possible, hope the truck was able to pick up, you guys rely on that income, especially with all the hard work that goes into it. God bless you and your family, keep them coming ( hope the water goes down without hiccups )
That would be devastating to have to dump your milk. That happened to us, and was very difficult. That's when you're prayers to our Lord helps. So I will pray for you and hope everyone who reads this will do the same.
You can tell you both have a deeply loving relationship when your lovely wife dives in the s... to pull up the drawbar. Hope spring is not too far away for you 👍
Lol
It’s always funny when Jenn is in the cow poop
Flowing water is dangerous. Backwater is just a nuisance. If the water is below the bumper, you can get through it. Great video, y'all!
No problem in the 1950's.
Load the milk cans on a hay rack and hitch up tractor to bring them to meet milk truck on high ground.
Not an option with bulk milk.
We have the same issue here. Spring is the wet, sloppy season. Being on a dead end road is nice for solitude, but not if you can't get out. I hope it clears for you soon. I love to watch the kids creativity. The best place to raise them is a farm. Stay safe, and God bless.
Oh no! What a bummer! Thinking of you guys with this rain we are having, and possible snow on the way too! So sick of this weather! Stay safe, God Bless.
I hope you don’t have to waste your milk 😢, the farm looks good with the snow melded down ! Good video.
Hope your able to get the milk truck in. Best wishes, D
I hope the milk truck can make through tomorrow. It would be a shame if you had to dump your milk. Take care and God Bless.
Great video and hope you are all safe from the flooding. It’s always a pleasure seeing everyone and family working together. Hopefully you don’t have to loose your milk. Thanks again and god bless
Remind us all again, who got the snowmobile stuck? Lol. Great video glad to see the kids keeping busy I hope the truck made it through. 🙏
Thanks for a info video what you folks have to put up with many spring times. Most people have no Idea what goes on in the country.
I was born and grew up in the country in Southern Ontario and I remember stuff going on like you are going through.
You really thought not much about it and dealt with it as it was a normal thing where you lived.
Lady you hooking up that hitch to the tractor with your hands in the poo!!!! not many females would do that now days LOL
Loved the cattle chasing the wagon with feed on it!! You can't fool them as they know what is on that wagon. Great video always,
hope you got your milk out.
Keep the videos coming
Boy, those IH tractors have a classic big tractor sound. Reminds me of working as a kid for the neighbors. Good that you can laugh and stay upbeat. Hope the milk truck makes it through soon.
We are near Dubuque Iowa and the Mississippi river is expected to have record flooding from northern snow melt, thanks for sharing
Yes, a viewer of ours lives by the Mississippi here in Minnesota and said it's very high.
Bring out the lawn chair, enjoy the sunshine and fish... lol
Sorry you have some flooding hope it dries out soon
The rain missed us again last night. We need it! You get more then you can hold on to!
If I could send it your way, I definitely would. Hopefully you get some much needed rain.
I love seeing the "Hap Hap Happy cows"!
Those two girls fired up first clip. Spring is slow to get going here in Ireland this year. Enjoyed the video 👍
Prayers that the truck gets threw and prayers all
Praying for yall and hope yall the best and God bless yall
WOW,lots of water,we are pretty dry here in Vermont
good luck with your tanker truck
Awesome video.Seeing that flooded area reminds of the Wabash River Flooding near my hometown Indiana
The wonderful spring time. Hope you get your milk out. Your son there is a little Engineering guy.. that is a nice little project he has there. Your close to the Moosehorn river too? Your so lucky..
Yes. The Moosehorn and Kettle River border the property.
It has been warm or really warm the last 5 days here in Ottawa, Ontario. On Thursday of this past week the temperature was 30.2 Celsius or 86.3 Fahrenheit.
That's crazy!
My Dad used to haul milk when I was a kid...he hauled all through the Flood of 87 here in Maine he never missed a farmer no matter how flooded it was. I wouldn't think twice about driving through there I've driven through far worse working in the Maine woods. When in doubt have the farmer come out with a tractor and you follow close behind him.
Our previous milk man was exactly the same, but he owned his own truck. I couldn't believe some of the stuff he'd drive through. If it wasn't too soft and wet, he'd take his truck through the neighbors' fields if he had to.
Prayers 🙏😢
Wow lots of water
Thank you God Bless
thank you
Crazy weather. We are very dry in pa for this time of year. Spooky after the drought we went threw last summer. Everyone nervous. Farmers that is
I feel for everyone that is coming into spring on the dry side.
Well John Alfred I don't know where you are at. We are Western PA north of Pittsburgh in this is the driest spring that I seen probably in 10 years. Brings back memories of the 1988 drought which I don't relish. I am hopefully watching you selling the radar right now that's about 15 miles away over the state park and headed this direction I hope we get some water out of that AccuWeather and the radar say we're going to
Good video hope y'all didn't have to dump any milk
9:32 that's awesome, she could do equestrian, she showed poise, concentration and skill
Right?!
💯💯Great Video 💯💯
Know all about the one way in/out...............Unfortunately here when water gets too high, cows have to go out too. Up on the mountainside now, just two ways in/out, but atleast the cows don't get wet. Still some down in the river bottoms though(not mine). I don't miss those days.
Ik this is costly but a few farms here in Vermont where it floods either has enough storage for a few days or they have a bulk tank trailer that they bring out to the milk trucks in high ground. Goodluck stay safe 😊
Ah mud season ya gotta love it!
...and this children, is when gloves come in real handy."
Hands are washable. A little poo never killed anyone.
Dang you guys got a lot of flooding. Now I don't feel as bad about our flooding. We were having to park out at the end of our driveway by the road. Finally after almost a full week of no rain we were able to drive up to the house now we got some rain, tomorrow snow.
Wow you guys need a pontoon boat lol I'm glad nothing important got flooded
Yes, everything we have is on high ground. The town north of us had some flooding reach houses, though.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you battle the flooded road. Hope you don't have to dump your milk!!! The road where we used to live would flood when they closed the dam. The folks in the neighborhood advised against trying to go through. There are a number of dams in Ohio that are part of the Muskingum Conservancy that controls floodwater that eventually goes to the Ohio River.
I came through on 35 this morning. The Kettle looked pretty high. Lot of flooded roads here too.
Yes, Moose Lake, the town North of us, declared a flood emergency. I can't imagine what the flooding would've looked like if we'd had a frost in the ground.
@@trinitydairy Same here. The ground at least took some of the snow.
Corrals in the spring. A sloppy experience indeed. That's the problem with a quick thaw, too much water all at once. Hopefully things dry up in a hurry for you.
It looks like the swamp in Louisiana around you. Kept expecting to see alligators. We could use that water here in southern Nebraska it's very dry here.
Hopefully you will get some much needed rain!
AMPI in Jim Falls is hiring like mad. Nice to know you'll have a s
Have a steady buyer for your milk.
Thought let you know Evan fr another few acre is looking for a young jersey milk cow
We have some light drizzle coming down here and there was a washout spot on the county road where I live on, the water has gone down, the county maintenance department does fix it, the weather is pretty chilly here as well, has the water gone down on that road or does the county maintenance department fix it? Back in 1997 when I was living in the south east North Dakota where it got flooded and there was an ice storm, that was a disaster, thanks for sharing the video Al 👍🚜🐄🌊
No, the water hasn't gone down. The town north of us declared a flood emergency and has county trucks all over trying to block the lake from rising any higher. Our road will be fine once the water goes down. The water doesn't cause any washout. It's just a waiting game for when the Kettle River drops enough to let the Moosehorn River start flowing again.
Flooding is getting bad in Floodwood .
This winter has drug on forever and now with the fast melting it’s terrible in some areas. Hopefully the milk truck can get in to pick up your milk. Myself I would drive in there and pick up your milk. They could switch things around and come in empty. Especially if the road isn’t washed out.
Dump milk, Uh oh, my prayers .(Naaman)
How often does your road flood like this? Most of our snow is gone. It's surprising how much water went in. Our maples are just starting to flow now. Today was a good day for sap.
The road floods maybe once or twice a year. Most of the time, it's not over the road very long or very deep. But, occasionally, it floods like this where we're stuck here for a week or more.
Good thing you got more bulktank than milk... some of these big guys cant even go one milking
That's for sure
@@trinitydairy why my dad went to a 600 gallon surge bulk tank from a 300 gallon jamesway..gave us up to 4 days lee way if winter blocked roads
Oh yeah, if we still had our flat top tank, we'd be running over.
If the sap is staring to look milky, and if the buds on the trees are turning red,It's time to pull the taps!
The buds were starting to turn red the day I pulled my taps.
Hope y’all don’t have any erosion from the high water and the milk truck gets through. You could also ask the county to put in a couple culverts and raise the road for y’all. The worst they can say is no , but ya never know unless you ask.
I've seen this River rise above the corner Chevron signs. You'd never get it high enough unless you moved the road.
Why don't you put side markers on the road before it floods.
I was just saying I wish I had!
14 more inches..... How about up there?
Wow! We didn't get that much, about 4-5 inches.
Dairy mans worst night mare
You know it's bad if the milk truck can't get through
Do you ever get your crops flooded?
The only field that floods is the hay field in the video. That's part of the reason we just leave it as a hay field.
You guys need a boat!!
My dad has his boat here. The kids have wanted to boat on the hay field, but we don't have life jackets for them. We had some turkey hunters that are hunting on the farm this week, and they have been boating in.
Oh they would have a ton of fun! Gonna have to look and see what for life vest I have if I can find them and what shape they are in I will send them to ya
I survived the East ky flood of July 2022. had 54 inches of water in my entire home. we had speed boats and army copters pulling us out. fixing back i had 4 heart attacks, and a really neat 25 day stay at UK .. 5 bipasses So dont sweat the water thanks!! lol
Oh no, I don't mean to sound like poor me or anything. Dumping milk sucks, but I still have my health, family, and home.
@@trinitydairy Ive been watching for years, always enjoyed every video including this one. i was just recalling a bad memory. I hope to be watching another decade.... Dumping milk really sucks.
If you have to dump your milk. Does any insurance help the loss?
The creamery will pay for 75% of the milk. To put insurance on the other 25% is more hassle than it's worth.
My co-op pays 100% for one tank ,4 milkings, once a year. 365days not calendar
What time did Noah go by😮
I'm pretty sure I saw two of every kind of duck go by.
Getting pretty bad in west central Wisconsin also. Be a minute for spring. They're calling for quite a bit of snow this weekend. AGAIN. Not funny an,,,just sayin
Now maybe you can mudbog your atv home out of the field?? You should never drive on flooded roads Alan, haha I do it too. (I had to say it) 6-8" more Sunday night. You going to get any of that. Ope, see you got the ATV out. 😂
Jen got the four-wheeler out the first day, when it really got hot. Yeah, it looks like we're going to get it. It's been raining here all day.
@@trinitydairy shoot!! Winter storm watch now Jeez.
What state are you in
Minnesota
Since you know the road so well that you don't worry about driving into the borrow pit at high water, could you meet the milk truck with your biggest tractor and pull him through? Or find a smaller milk truck to make the pull easier? What a shame to potentially lose 25% payout.
That would be 100% up to the owner of the trucking company. There's some liability, I'm sure, having a hired driver go into floodwaters if something happened. Unfortunately, there are no other milk trucks around.
To bad it’s not a dead end road they’d have to come figure out a way to fix the road somehow so people can use that road you might have to talk with the city and see if there’s any way to put a culvert under the road to eliminate that problem if it keeps happening
It is a dead-end road. It's not a culvert issue. The Kettle River and Moosehorn River meet behind our field. When the Kettle River is flooding, it's more powerful and stops the flow of the Moosehorn River. The Moosehorn River backs up, and the water rises up over the fields and roads. Nothing can be done about it. Just wait until the Kettle River goes down and allows the Moosehorn to flow again.
Wouldn't have hurt anything if you left the taps in
Except the bottles would've floated away with the flooding. If it wasn't for that, I probably would've left them.
👀🙄🐾👍
Come on Girl don't be so girly, that's good fertilizer! Will put hair on your chest kinda stuff! lol
Lol
