Haying in a Heatwave/Round Baler Breakdown/Baling Hay 2022

- It's a heatwave in Minnesota! Even in the heat, the work doesn't stop. The New Holland Round Baler suffered a breakdown, so Alan and our neighbor, Caleb, went right to work replacing bearings and putting in some new chain. After the repairs were made, Justin went to work tedding the field with the Farmall B and Vermeer Hay Tedder. Jen's Dad gave Alan a hand with his John Deere B on the V-Rake. Right behind Jen's Dad was Alan driving the International 1256 Tractor and the newly repaired, and freshly oiled Round Baler. Lastly, we give a glimpse of Joshua and his Brown Swiss Heifer, Lady, as they prepare for the County Fair.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
Justin is doing one heck of a good job running the equipment. What a great age when you get to start running the tractors and implements. You actually feel pretty good when you are helping your dad.
Love these old vintage tractors.
Love seeing the older tractors still putting in a days work.
It does my heart good to see your son in that tractor seat. 60 years ago I started the same way. I got a huge education in equipment and work from that seat which has been beneficial my whole life. Thanks for sharing with us. I’m a loyal fan.
Getting up and going all day is all we really ask of our tractors. Doesn't matter the color.
Love your tractors, thick hay
Brings back memories of working on our old 851 new Holland good balers didn't always make the best bales but used ours for over 40 years finally up graded 4 years ago to a new Holland 450 roll bell all I have say is WOW WHAT A CHANGE
That young man is doing a fine job
No better experience than growing up on a farm. I spent as much time as I could on my grandparents dairy. Raking hay is the perfect job for a young man. That chain baler still makes some pretty rounds. I remember my first county fair. Put in the work ahead of time and it pays off when show day comes around. Thanks for sharing the video!
I remember showing at the fair at that age. Lots of work but lots of fun. Teaches discipline and responsibility. Good luck this year!!
A little over 50 years ago I took my Brown Swiss calves to the local fair. Good Luck to Joshua and Lady.
The only thing worse than baling in a heatwave is stacking bales in the mow in a heatwave. Stay safe and God bless.
Love how your kids help on the farm. I’m a farm kid, grew up helping dad every chance I could. Still farming I work on a 1,200 cow dairy farm and help my brother on our family farm on days off.. crazy huh
The finger rake is probably the cheapest rake to keep operating and does a good job. I started out with an old one and then bought a 3-point Fransgard rotary which also works pretty good but goes through tines. The benefit of the rotary is that it does not wrap the windrow so the hay dries better.
I just love old school I guess it is when I was your kids age and loved working on the farm etc it sure brings back lots of memories.
Thing is your tractors are a bit too new from my young life back then LOL, I so enjoy your videos including the young ones. Thanks for the memories.
Justin is looking like the man helping out dad go Justin go love the vids.
It's nice to see the kids pitching in with the maintenance
Farmalls running just like new Great video
Just finished baling our wheat straw, usually put up about a thousand small squares in addition to the rounds we bale. Contractor needed some and bought it in rows. Asked if we always hire local kids for small squares....... had to confess they are our kids and it's just part of their summer break. lol. Love your content. Thank You.
The old NH makes a nice bale. Ran a 850 and a 851 for years.
Alan it's good to see your son learning how to run a tractor.. I like that b john deere. Yes , i'm the loud chain guy!!
good to see everybody healthy & "doing". God bless you guys
Love the down home farm videos
Looks like the calf is off to a good start.👍 Hay looks really nice. Seems like there is always something to fix on a baler, part of life.
Enjoyed video, good job guys.
Yep we have a few hot days here as well. Then a down pour Sunday afternoon.
That calf looks like it will be fine. It's the ones that head back to the barn full speed with the kid bouncing along behind that you gotta watch out for. I know. I was the kid who wouldn't let go no matter what.
Looks like it’s starving 🙄
Another awesome video !!! Very enjoyable!!
Love to see more content, what you put out as it takes me back to the dairy farm outside of Brainerd!
Always liked the older machinery its simple and repairs are made pretty easily , You keep yours in tip top running order , Great video regards from Ohio !
You don't always have time to rake it into bigger windrows, I have a 688 New Holland baler and sometimes the smaller windrows make it easier to bale. Great video from trinity dairy.
A beautiful brown swiss heifer yay
Great video, thanks for sharing
Good job guys looks some good hay
Always something
We just sold our old Grimm tedder not long ago when all the gears on one side broke and it really wasn’t worth us fixing. I also had an 853 baler wish I’d have kept it for a spare instead of trading it in. They were both good machines.
Our Grimm tedder did the same thing.
Hi Alan,ED from Vt.,Bailer sounds great
If u were closer I'd give u 3 of them ol chain bakers and a truck load of parts lol
Always nice to hear from you. A bit more first cut to bale up here but it keeps raining.
Very nice video, especially the end with 3 calf.
Very good job and God bless yall
Anyway you can do a video on how to adjust the twine arms out on a chain baler. I have a 848 new holland baler.
Little farmall b sure makes a nice Tedder tractor. When dad bought our old chain baler I always thought those idler sprockets were all wore out, took awhile to figure out they're supposed to look like that 🤣🤣. They sure seem like a good baler it'll run circles around our br740 baling corn stalks.
Great job Justin
Great video, thanks for sharing and God Bless.
Good video. Josh keep working with that calf.
Thanks for the update. Hay really looks nice.. Baler did sounds quite. Always look forward to fair time. And I can't leave here with out saying. Bet Miss Jenn whated to do some raking with that Jonny. Lol. I was raised working with Jonh Dreere. But I would never bet against those old Farmalls. We had a super M but any. M.H.C.B or even an A.. all down out hard working Tarctor. That's for sure
all i ever used was a ground driven grimm tedder was a good machine back then
Man yeah!! I bet that was a chore to install those bearings with the chain in place😳 I like your idea about replacing them all, talking about fire. 👍 Boy that cahin was wore out for sure!! The old gehl is gonna be ready for another several years now!! Loved seeing Justin on the Tedder again, that has to be a huge help!! Well I bought a tiny odd ball chain baler, boy what I have done now 🤦🤦 But we gonna try to roll something one day soon! Enjoyed seeing that thing eat away at hay!! Can't beat lunch in the field!! Calf is looking good, pretty responsive to them as well!! Thank you for another great video Alan!! Hope all is well!! Look fwd to more 👍👍😁😁
Looking forward to seeing your baler in action!
@@trinitydairy Thank you sir!!
Life was so much simpler back in the early 90s, I didn't really notice much clinking sound on the round baler, I saw on another UA-cam channel the some farmer was farming with his 830 Case, this one had a narrow front on it, never seen any 830 Case with a narrow front, it had duals on too, I'm not subscribe to that channel though 🚜
What's this lunch in the field you speak off? Tractor idling means no progress!! Just havin some fun with ya!! Great video, hope all is well with the family! Love your channel, hope you have a bountiful harvest Trinity! Really enjoy watching the little farmers give er hell!! Us little farmers BUILT THIS COUNTRY!! And the big government subsidies took it away!! Best of luck! I truly respect your family and what your doing! God bless!!
👌
Looks like your calf's need a
little better feed . Too thin for
my liken. Looks like you have
made some decent forage this
summer. Starting to get some
good help around there with the
kids. Take care and stay cool !!!
She gets milk replacer and has calf starter in front of her full time. She just has a lot of frame to fill in. When she matures I think she will be a big big cow.
at 22:30.........I never cared for NH chain balers because most I have seen made bales that looked like a few guys pitched loose hay into a round stack.
Your bales are the best I have ever seen from a N H chain baler.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I think the difference is that the older chain balers, had big springs to keep pressure on the bale, but this one uses air bags.
Well guess you haven't ever seen much hay baled with one then. The problem with that is people didn't know how to bale with them and didn't know how to maintenance and adjust them correctly. I have baled with the same old 1978 850 New Holland that I bought used for over 25 years.
@@trinitydairy nope not the springs just improperly adjusted and maintained causes that problem.
@@leeroyexcavator9149 ..There must be a reason why the old chain balers don't hold their value and why New Holland switched to belts like all the other makes and now brag how great a dense bale the BELT balers make.
Why do you think that is ?
@@douglasmacarthur8775 Don't hold their value that's funny. New Holland Chain balers that are 40 years old are still selling for 1500.00 plus while the belt balers are in the junk yard. Yeah New Holland found out they could make a cheaper baler like the other company's and make more money from broken down balers and parts unlike the old chain balers that lasted 30 plus years or more. So that bull don't fly.
Alan when are you going to use the 9Nford
Our next video has the 9N running the manure spreader.
Everybody's quick to judge until u say here's the parts list go buy it. Seems to shut them up after that.
I have an 853 and the chain doesn't run backwards to kick the bail out. Guess it's made different
It must be. This one disengages the main drive belt and engages a different belt, that turns the chain backwards, when the door is opened.
When you were changing those sprocket bearings the sprocket looked pretty worn down but I'm not familiar with that machine. Are those sprockets supposed to look that way?? That Farmall just keeps going. Runs like a top. I noticed that the PTO shaft runs nice and straight too. You explained it.... I missed it. My bad. Thanks. I can't help but like that John Deere B raking. I like the variety of equipment.
Those "sprockets" are supposed to be perfectly round.
Yeah I said that in the video.
@@trinitydairy yeah I caught that. Like I said my bad. Best wishes at the fair!!
Just curious you said you are grinding down your apron chain idler sprockets which I have never heard of!!! You best be doing it evenly on both sides or you could damage the chain and cause it to wear faster and put uneven load pressure on other parts I would believe. I hear clicking but mostly from your pick up teeth. New Holland Chain balers are not as quiet. But are as far as I am concerned the best longest lasting balers ever made.
I probably shouldn't have said sprockets, they are supposed to be smooth, but the chain has worn grooves in them so sometimes I have to grind down the high spots.
I got an 852 NH baler sitting in shed don't use it no more darn good baler
Does that NH 853 bale silage hay not wet grass but damp hay Does it start a bale easy I was thinking of getting a NH round baler
Yeah , I've baled silage hay with it, and it worked good, if the hay gets really heavy, it will stretch the main chain pretty fast.
@@trinitydairy Thank You
is trefoil the plant that resembles alfalfa?
Yes but with yellow flowers
What model is that IH baler is that a 39x48 bale I have been looking for a small baler I did realize IH made a small
I will have to check on the model number, but it makes a 4ft tall by 5ft wide bale, with a soft core, this one is International but they were made by New Idea.
It says on the side it's a "New Holland" Model 853.
@@leeroyexcavator9149 no the IH who is behind the case 830 or 930
👍👌❤🇨🇦
Alan I was just wondering what number haybine you have
489
@@trinitydairy how do you like it. I was gonna look at one and people kind of said the gearbox was a problem
@@jeffyurek4342 my grandpa bought it new in 1988, and we've never had a problem with the gearboxes, it's been a very good machine. I have heard that if the roller chain behind the one gearbox gets worn, and comes off, it can wreck the gearbox, but we haven't had that happen. I think the biggest problem we have had, is the u joint inside the pole where it pivots, went out, and took out the knuckle, and that was a expensive part.
@@trinitydairy ok thank you for your input
Is that international tractor a gas or a diesel, didn't sound like a diesel on start up.
It's a diesel
Were is your safety glasses Safety first
Is that calf sick, its deathly thin.
No. She's not sick or deathly thin. She was a baby brown Swiss. They have a ton of frame to them. They're not beef cattle.
Well Allen are one that we rebuilt last Summer is now having its cultivators rebuilt, or farm show basically are second Fair is coming up here in about 2 weeks and we'd like to show it and we're working away right now and getting it ready. We still cultivate urea into about 20 acres of corn every year using the 1941 the end and the 1950 c we've done a tremendous amount of research since all it's ever been done on those two sets of cultivators is change the occasional bad or bent or broken shovel we've never changed them all at once you've gone through and checked everything and made some repairs and it's going back to the international paint codes and paint committee reports to get the proper colors for it and we're going to try and have both sets painted according to the 1940 50 area standards and show them both side beside this year we've been working at it for about a week and we probably down to about a day and a half two days left
Very cool! I bet they will be really sharp looking!
2:18: i may be going out on a limb here but shouldn't that chain wheel have a bit more by way of toothage ??
No, it's not supposed to have any teeth
2:36: on the back of the vice is a socket. on the shelf next to the sound system is another socket. so why you using a hammer n punch to shift the bearing ?? eeer derh !!
3:45: HURRAH !!
You can't punch the bearing out with a socket, you can only get at the outer race with a punch, through the two openings.
Need a haircut again pork chop

Keep your kids out of the videos
Not gonna happen. Keep yourself off our channel.
