Pumping The Manure Lagoon Out/ New Holland Power
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 чер 2023
- On our small dairy farm, all of our manure from our barn goes to a holding lagoon. Once a year, we hire a great group of guys to spread that manure onto our fields. It's a smelly job, but someone has to do it right? Well, it's that time of the year. Marten's Farm Inc. gets right to work! With their fleet of New Holland Tractors and Homemade Monster Pump, the work goes fast. The manure lagoon is stirred to break up any dry areas, then the manure is pumped through hoses up to a tractor that injects the manure into the ground while discing it in. It's a great fertilizer for our corn.

That's pretty cool. No waste fertilizer just a big circle of life on a farm. Using everything for a purpose. Great job !
Back in early 90s I worked for a guy pumping manure. When he started in the 80s only aluminium pipe was used to go from the lagoon to the field. He hated laying pipe because it was back breaking work to lay and pick up
He kept calling and asking the hose engineers why can't we use hose for the whole layout. The engineers told him that using hose you will lose too much pressure with every hose.,so it was never done. My boss said well I'm going to try it out for myself and he purchased around a half mile of hose and tried it. It worked out and the engineers were shocked. They even came out and watched us pump manure with all hose, they studied it for a few days and ever since then, all manure pumpers use all hose. My boss was even the guy that told the lagoon pump manufacturers to put dulls on the pumps so that the tires will float on the mud inside the lagoons. It's neat to be a part of manure pumping history. They're around a dozen dozen manure pumping guys in my area now and they all call my old boss the "GRANDFATHER".
Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing that!
WOW! The rocks in the field in the last bit of the video!!
Giving a shout out to martins they have been around along time they do a great job. Nice to see they are still around and working with the farmers. I remember years ago they would come in and pump lagoons and if it was getting cold in the late fall they would go all night. I’m sure they still do. A lot less farms today. God bless
Yes, they are great! They take the time to show the kid's which is awesome!
Most guys around here, south central PA, chop the rye for silage and then no-till into it. Gotta have good draining soil as it’s usually ready late April early May. Of course a dry year like this it wouldn’t have mattered. We usually stick with triticale and wheat for forage because it matures later when hopefully the ground is more fit to drive on.
Nice job guys👍I just got in from cutting up some logs next to where the bags are going to go, now its storming, Yay. Much better then the drizzle misr we had yesterday.
🥇videos on UA-cam
Awesome to relive my childhood thru following you & your dairy farm on YT. I was middle sibling of 7. Wasn't til much laterbin life i teally understood the beautiful gift had given me to be born & raised on dairy farms !!!!! I thought we were hard done by and my daddy was just a cow cocky. Dint get me wrong , i loved him and Mum and we had a great upbringing but the amount of of knowledge needed in so many areas to run a farm and makee it sustain 9 people is an incredible feat !!!! BRAVO to ALL FARMERS !!! MY DAD did it tol he was 80 . In 2 different countries : NZ and Aussie!!!!
we would no-till beans in the rye the rye would act as mulch and help hold the moisture in the ground
Another great video. Tell the kiddos not to get into a squirtgun fight with that guy! Lol
Very interesting Al.
230,000 gallons. Can't wait to see the corn it helps grow. Nice to see the 489 bine still cutting too.
Overhere in the netherlands i think half of the dairyfarmers are using kinda the same machines to bring the manure on the fields and the reason for it is that they pump at the same time a third part of water whit the manure to reduce the emission, its by law regulated to do so, anyways thanks for the video and have a good day greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
I usually cut winter rye for straw, sell it to the suburban folk for their gardens and decorations and such, not much feed value in rye. If you’re gonna just work it in make sure to do it before it gets too tall, don’t want it too stalky or you’ll have some trouble planting into it. Most of the organic matters in the roots anyways, that’s where it’s holding your nitrogen for you
Really something how those lagoons get pumped out. Looked like a pooper cannon. I'll take a wild guess there was 1.25 million gallons in there. Our neighbor planted rye in previous years. Once he followed it up with sudan grass with pretty good success.
I'm going to guess around 150,000 gallons enjoyed watching Thanks Blessings and Please Be Safe ✌️
180000 gallons, great video
Very interesting.
Now that's what you call the job and a half! They do a great job for you. Be safe. God bless you.
Tks for sharing. They seem to know what there doing. But yet they show care to do the job in a good way. Some people out there should work doing that job. Then I'll bet they won't think there job is so bad after all... huh? LMAO!!!!
I plant rye every year, and I make balage out of it. The cows love it if you can make it in the milk stage. I usually disk it with the packer (usually twice) and plant Sudan grass. I have done hay before and it works ok butyou have to hit it hard with pot ash. As to whare the Sudan grass I can take a cutting off and what ever grows back I let the frost kill to give me back some organic matter.
Our corn has been in for few weeks now ,but hasn't rained in over a month, here in South Western PA . .
250,000 gallons
Keep up the good work
177,000 gal?? love the channel!!!
I think a guy could take the rye off for silage/baleage and then run the disk or field cultivator over it and then sow your alfalfa and orchardgrass.
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊
I’ve never seen a self-propelled lagoon siphon. And I always love watching big equipment working in the field.
100,040 gallons - just a wild gess .Great video of the opperation .
135,000 gallons
Continued success and blessings to you and your family
Saves a lot of hauling compared to using tank spreaders if the field is close enough to use the dragline. Ought to add some much needed moisture along with the nutrient value.
I'm guessing around 260,000 gallons pumped out. Great channel and love to see the kids having fun
Fascinating stuff, I’ve never seen this done before.
I have seen you a couple years showing this and all I can say, wow fantastic and they sure know their job.
Thanks for another great video of the workings on your farm.
Good job and God bless y'all
thank you
Love your channel and y’all place GOD first. Awesome
YUM!YUM! Makes me hungry. I think I'll go make me a nice bowl of split green pea soup.
200k gallons is my guess.
As far as the rye, we used to chop it, then no till drill into it.
Thanks for another great video!! Quarter million in the lagoon.
195,000 gallons
Good fertilizer !
Im goin to feel it tonight and tomorrow. Yup i got a lot of sun today
I'd guess 180,000 gallons.
When they were showing off for the kids, that was some real flying manure.
Praying you get a nice soaking rain soon.
👀🙄🐾👍Great video A&J 125000 imperial gallons
Awesome video you dont dispoit
I worked up some rye this spring and seeded some oats and sweet clover. It's been so dry it doesn't look very good. I hope the sweet clover comes up.
It's a crappy job, but it's got to be done........😂 ❤
Xif it.was .e on both fields - I would have run a chopper and wagon thru and feed it to the cows as green save or bagged it for grass silage forater on
We're in Barron County and disked a rye field and planted corn in it with it as tall as yours 3 weeks ago. The corn is coming up great but it still needed to be sprayed to finish off the rye. The cultivator would have done a better job at terminating the rye. We also cut and round baled another rye field 2 weeks ago then ran the cultivator on it, picked rocks and seeded alfalfa last week. Still waiting for some rain and still hand picking rocks this week with a UTV. The ground was very dry when we baled the rye and it didn't produce many bales and didn't end up being worth the time/money to cut, rake and bale it. It was also very dusty and dirty to bale since the ground was so dry from lack of rain and the rye seemed to take a lot of moisture out if the ground. We had planned on doing no-till into the rye after it was baled but the field had gotten really rough for some reason even though we rolled it last fall after disking and seeding the rye. If I were you, I wouldn't bother baling your rye, just run the cultivator over it one or two times and wait a few days for the rye to completely die and pick it clean with the hay buster rock picker you rented before, then seed alfalfa into it. Good luck!
You guys do a great job with the videos been watching for long time from Rhode Island and for the manure 150,000
In my area
Southeastern Pennsylvania
Rye is chopped as silage and corn is planted
Or
If it’s just a cover crop
It’s burned down with weed killer and corn is planted
This was totally new to me. Sure must smell as it has had time to ferment. Hope we all get rain soon. Guess 250000 gallons. Haven't a clue how much..
To those who asked if it helps put moisture in the soil..........
You would need 27,154 gallons per acre to equal a 1 inch rainfall
Thus,13,577 gallons per acre to equal 1/2 inch rainfall
Soil sample 😂😂😂😂😂
Alot farmer😂s in our area no til alfalfa rote into the rye early spring works great or sudan grass so you dont lose the moisture in the ground 195000 gallons
We left our cows in to eat the cover crop rye then we notilled corn in it know we sprayed it once and we need to spray it agin know
👍
My grandfather green chopped winter rye then disked it then planted corn or alfalfa red clover
16:19 that's a knee slapper!
Great video, I think there was more than 50 gallons, 😂 see you on the next video.
Hard to gauge how much the lagoon holds, and how long the run to the field is but the guys who do mine take about two hours to stir and move around 30000 imperial gallons an hour which is about 40000 us gallons so best guess 160 to 200 thousand gallons. I shift a bit more for about €1000 and it is the best money I spend every year, we still have to move 500,000 gallons with the tanks and it is a pain of a job and takes up a lot of time when we are already busy enough in the spring. Regards from Ireland.
Great video .I would say around 230000 gallons of manure.
ohhh i was way off on my guess!
Good video but I wish you'd shown the lagoon after it was pumped out.
Cut hay it will rain. LOL
😂😂😂soil samples!😂😂😂God Bless
The kids are just like us,,,they enjoy watching others work, And what an exciting day for us all.
❤ 🚜
190000 gallons? If the weather gets cooler like it says it will, i would think you could take that rye off and plant oats and peas with alfalfa and get a good crop before fall.
Don’t have the best luck following rye with alfalfa. We usually follow with corn or a Sudan grass mix.
I think there was about 325,000 gallons.
You guys dont spread the liquid on grass after you cut it? Throughout the summer? How long did they pump for ?
Great video of something seldom seen. How much of a moisture benefit will you get from this? And the Mike Rowe,Dirty Jobs is a hell of an idea.
It doesn't really do much for moisture
Good job 150000 gls
I will guess 360,000 gallons .
Did you apply any nitrogen to the rye in the spring? If not, that’s probably why it’s struggling to grow. Just like wheat, rye loves spring feeding.
575,000. 😊😊
Alan, do you suppose that the bedding rots away in the manure lagoon or will it clog the hoses going to the applicator? Excellent video!
It mostly breaks down, but once in a while, it might clog up a bit.
U have to plough it under or spray it it'll come back lol
Well, I remember the last total of gallons but, I’ll bet that every year is different so, I’ll guess 200,000 for this year
Hi Alan is this cheaper than using tank waggongs ?? thank you
It is probably a little more expensive, but when we hauled it with tankers, it took about a week of steady hauling, and they were able to do it in a few hours, plus no wear and tare on our equipment.
Did I hear a rooster pheasant at 5:17?
I'll say 186250 gallons.
Yes. We have a few around.

Nice.
164,678 gallons
14,500 gallons
910,875 gallons
165,000 gallons --- your holding pit must be lined right? Interesting to see how this is done. Have never seen the process before. Thanks for sharing. D
It's clay lined.
when you line the lagoon with plactic , you get big rolls of it that you roll over the lagun then you have a welding machine that welds the sheets together , the side's you made on the bottom of the lagune and then drag it up in big sheets to the sides and the welding machine welds it togeter , so its all is like a big tarp in a bowl but way more sturdy
It sure does away with soil compaction compared to spreading with those heavy liquid manure tanks.
240,000 gallons.
Hopefully converted the litres correctly... 400000 gallons?
Do the pump guys spread onto pasture with dribble bars or do they just work it into bare ground?
They have a applicator that works like an aerator,so the manure can get down into the ground, without disturbing the surface. They use that during the summer, to apply manure on hay fields
In my past experience you could never give rye enough nitrogen, I had some on my better fields and didn’t fertilize and I was disappointed, the field I would top dress would yield much better. We need rain in central WI been about a month 90 percent tomorrow will c.
180,000 gallons manor ..........great white north......S
Works better than all that bs in DC
378,000 gallons
Some of the hay looks real good! Do you get a bulldozer and clean out the rest of the lagoon?
No, it just stays in until next time.
Excavators work the best for clean out 😊 after the liquid is gone if there is any solids
Do they charge by the hour? Or by the gallon? To pump your pit out?
By the gallon
I would guess around 500,000 gallons of manure pumped out.
Y’all heard of the blue man band trinity has the poo man group
135,000 gallon
How many gallons per acre did you apply?? He seemed to be going pretty fast with the toolbar. 196,000
8,218 gallons per acre
55 gallons of manure pumped it if the lagoon.
@trnitydariy the lagoon pumper is my grandpa
Awesome!
237000 gallons. Do you have add much purchase fertilizer to the ground that you pump onto?
Last year, I didn't hardly put any purchased fertilizer on.
