I just installed this roof rack on my 2019 4Runner TRD Pro. The old TRD rack uses T40 hex bolts. I would STRONGLY recommend using a PB Blaster(or the equivalent) on all the bolts prior to attempting to loosen the bolts. I used a standard ratchet on the first bolt and stripped it. I ended up having to drill the bolt, break the top off and use vise grips(after the old rack was taken off) to remove the broken bolt. I recommend using a breaker bar, SLOWLY loosen each hex bolt and finish them with a standard ratchet. Other then that, this video is spot on. Well done. You two are the reason I purchased this roof rack. I am happy with the look and I have yet to use it for some Overlanding. I just wanted to extend my experience with the 2019 TRD Pro Runner and what other should be aware of. Much love, health and safe travels y'all...
Thanks for watching Mike. The instructions manufactures provide is the reason we got into these installation videos. p.s. Just a reminder: Our t-shirt fundraiser for TreadLightly ends October 19th. I just ordered mine with the 40” light bar. I have their bull bar and winch bumper already. Will your instructions for the side light install work for the front light bar? I love me some SSO.
Can't argue with SSO quality! Have had an eye on Prinsu Designs, seems to be a highly refined rack that compliments the lines of the 4Runner and just wondering if you considered it. They seem to be very similar in terms of no drill but Prinsu uses a 2 sided 3M tape for front and SSO uses mechanical pressure? After driving with it for a few months how is the wind noise and how is the vinyl holding up? Thanks again for such a professionally done job on the vid, you have a great videographer there partner.
Thanks for watching! We were first going to go with the Prinsu but after getting a great close-up look at the SSO and their quality, we went with it. Normal driving there's very little wind noise. A little more with gusty side winds.
I like Southern Style Offroad for the stubby front bumper and I'm seriously considering their rock sliders as well. I prefer the look of the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform Backbone system for my 4runner. I think SSO's rack looks good on the 4runner and I'm sure it will serve you well.
I like the set up however I did not see any type of cover go help keep debris out of the now exposed factory mounting locations. Have you noticed any debris or water getting in under the roof channels?
The openings are allowed to drain through channels molded into the black rubber strip in the groove. We haven't had any problems at all with water getting through to the interior or debris building up in the slots.
OK I knw this is an older video but I'd like to know how the the slats are held to the side bars on that rack. (I'm too broke to buy you taco's right now but I'll tell you that you're as pretty as a taco is yummy!!)
Now that you have had the SSO roof rack for a while, how do you like it, and have you had any problems with it of any kind? Any regrets? Also do you have all the cross bars that can be used with it? I think it comes with 8 but it looks like 10 can be used. Thank You Kenneth Johnson
The rack is wonderful, no regrets at all. I believe we have 9 crossbars. We had one over/near the antenna but it caused signal problems so we took it off.
All the Pro offers over the Offroad was suspension. We knew we were going to put on all new and lift so no reason to pay extra for something we were not going to use.
Have you driven around with it on and at highway speeds, I’m wondering how much wind noise this rack makes? Also is there a way to mount a front facing light bar on this rack?
will any kind of mounts meant for normal crossbars work on these? I would be using kayak mounts for cross bars and was curious if that would work with this rack. So far this and the gobi are my front runners.
A woman who hangs out with her husband and work on the truck, is from heaven.
Not kidding 👍

Great advice, THANKS for sharing your experience!
Thanks for the video, I found it a lot more useful than the instructions they sent....

One 🌮 Taco for that pretty Lady. Nice video 👍 good to see the 07 FJ 😊
Dave D thanks. The FJ is alive and well.
Looks like a great Rack, best i've see so far, thanks for the video, i'm sold, can't wait to order mine.
Glad you like it!
Great video, love all the detail that you guys get into
nice install . what a rack !
Looks great, first I’ve seen of torque value👍 know you should not over torque.
Great intro... Gotta love roof racks!!;) ( I'll leave it at that. )
dhu1042476 🥳
Well done Sir, thank you so much.
You are very welcome
Too bad they don't have one for the Taco. I'd like to see it compared to the Prinsu.
Top notch as usual
M Lebowski thank you
Always love your video, very informative! How’s the rack holding up after 3 years? I’m considering it.
We love it! Nothing has gone wrong.
Always enjoy your videos guys, I should have my first 4Runner (2020) in a couple of more months !
Thanks! And enjoy your new ride!
Thank you, very helpfull.
Other tracks come with rubber feet this had metal spacers. I don't know about all that silicone. Nervous to buy sso

Also noticed the Prinsu is aluminum, perhaps that is why the SSO looks so beefy in powder coated steel.

I've learned a lot from your channel,. 1 question, what is Toyota factory torque specs for those mounting holes? TIA
Aqui no Brasil não tenho deste gostaria muito para minha srw4 ano 97!!!! kkk
Cool rack, bummer they don't make them for Subaru's.
Thanks for the video. To bad southern style off-road only makes these for Japanese vehicles and not domestic.
How are Japanese yotas not domestic?

You are beautiful and hope your husband gets you some tacos. Good vedio as always. Looking forward to more cooking vedios too.
nn performance awww, you are the sweetest, ☺️ thank you! We will do more cooking video soon, for sure!

Bolts through the sides into the ends of the crossbars.
Great Video! What happens if you decide to sell the car/want a new roof rack? How do you remove all of that silicon?
The silicone will peel off pretty easy,.....I hope.
How's the poor FJ? Got a glimpse of it in the background there. SSO needs to offer some FJ accessories.
MOOCHZ1LLA poor? It has a great life! It’s a little dirty though.

The rack is wonderful, no regrets at all. I believe we have 9 crossbars. We had one over/near the antenna but it caused signal problems so we took it off.
How was the wind noise after adding the rack?
It did add a tiny bit of noise, not overbearing though. The noise really goes up when we put gear and such on top.
I wanted to ask you both why you went with the TRD Off Road 4Runner and not the TRD Pro.
All the Pro offers over the Offroad was suspension. We knew we were going to put on all new and lift so no reason to pay extra for something we were not going to use.
Does the shark fin stick out higher? Looking to get a roof top tent...
No, it doesn't stick up past the top of the bars.
Have you driven around with it on and at highway speeds, I’m wondering how much wind noise this rack makes? Also is there a way to mount a front facing light bar on this rack?
TRDJTB Drove it to work today on I90 (over an hour away) and didn’t notice it too much. It hums a bit with a cross wind but it was minimal.
Southern Style offers an optional "cut out" area on the front wind fairing that will accept a lightbar.
Which roof rack bracket are you using for an awning? I am ordering an ARB or Ironman awning. Thanks
We don't use an awning. Try Gzila Designs, they something.
will any kind of mounts meant for normal crossbars work on these? I would be using kayak mounts for cross bars and was curious if that would work with this rack. So far this and the gobi are my front runners.
We can't say for certain, don't know how your kayak rack towers attach. I would recommend that you get the rack, then buy the necessary hardware.
No but fabricating some riser or offset mounts only requires cutting metal stock, a drill and possibly a hammer and vice.
Have you installed lights in your roof rack?
Not yet. We haven't found ones that we really like yet.
And tell me I’m pretty and buy me tacos!
Are you happy with the Rack?
Very! Everything fits like it should and there's surprisingly little wind noise.
Wanderlost Overland
That’s great. Ty
I bought mine cause of your vid...thx again
You are pretty and if you ever have to chance to come up to Ontario Canada, I'll buy you tacos. :)
how is this a no drill roof rack? you have bolts going into your roof.
LOL, no additional holes needed.
Meant not computer savvy.
Ruf
How many tacos do you want
Ha Ha, thanks Brett, I’ll take 2! I didn’t know he added that. I try to say goofy things to him during mic checks. 🤪
For $1500 this thing is a ripoff
Just a little pricey. Definitely not a "ripoff".
