    • @walterostlie

      @@priyankasubba6316 This video explains the ways I know of making money with comics. Ad revenue is the only way to get money from the company Webtoon unless you become featured/original, then they will pay you per episode a certain amount of money. but that is also hard. Most indie comic creators have to use the other methods I describe to make money with their comics or get freelance jobs making art/comics for other people.

    In my opinion, I like it better when you're the one talking in front of the camera plus the informative things you show us in the videos like the chart for Webtoon. Because it's like talking to us viewers personally. It's like you're earning every viewers trust and also makes us focus more on the information you are relaying. While watching this video, I find myself being lost to your art and just watching it, not being able to focus to the information your saying. (So I'll re-watch this later w/o looking at the video itself.) lol. Anyway, if you plan to upload speedpaints, that would be awesome too. What you could do while doing that is maybe answer some of your viewer's questions or maybe tell a story about your past experiences or about your dog- Or.. Just play music while doing your speed paint. It would be more boring but you could say hi to us in the beginning and end like you always do. Also, making a separate video for speed paint would let you produce more videos for us to watch. (More work though, but atleast it's additional video)
    These are the things that came to mind when you asked us. I'm not really a UA-camr but I observed those things from other UA-camr. It might help you. (Hope so)
    I don't usually put comments on UA-cam videos but because of how you make yours, (Putting up a very approachable aura that would make anyone want to be your friend) this would actually be my second time commenting on a single UA-camr.
    Hope I could get some advice from you too when I start publishing my webcomic, Walter. Cheers!

      Thank you very much, Eiden. Really appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts, especially when you don't usually comment. That means a lot. Honestly, that is why I haven't really done timelapses, because I want it to be about the information and just being helpful. But I know a lot of people like the timelapses as well. I may have to do a mixture of them. Maybe timelapses for topics that don't require a lot of visual information, and then more personal when it is an instructional topic. and when you start publishing your comic, you know where to find me, would love to help.

    I don't know if someone said this already, but another way to make money as a comic artist is to stream on Twitch and gain monthly subscribers that way.
    Streaming might not be good if the artist is already trying to sell their comic making process videos or screenshots on gum road or patreon (because viewers could say "why buy it when I can watch how you make you comic on your streams for free?") But I see some twitch comic artists stream how they draw fanart or commision work instead of their actual comic. I notice that fans and viewers get to know artists very well on twitch and subscribe (pay money) monthly because they like the artist personally.
    I hope this helps someone. Thank you Walter, I always learn a lot from your videos!!

    • @walterostlie
      @walterostlie  4 роки тому +2

      Oh yeah, totally forgot about twitch. That's a good one. I even used to stream. So a total duh moment on my part. It's a good way to build up fans and get more commissions. I think I forgot about it because it caused me to be very unproductive, because I spent more time talking than drawing.

    • @Liz-with-a-smile
      @Liz-with-a-smile 4 роки тому +6

      I recommend you just look at different webtoon creators' patreons.
      Realistically, I've seen dozens of webtoon creator's patreons and most make about $10- 100 dollars a month if they are on canvas, and about $1000 dollars month or more if they are an original. In additionally, add revenue isn't much. So realistically, if you are good and can get popular, you can do it. If you aren't, than I'd say no. You'll need a day job.

    I honestly don't think that the timelapses were better than when you were talking. I guess unless it's directly related to your topic (like in your panels video) I find it a bit distracting and prefer you showing yourself rather than a time-lapse. On the plus side I love that pose!! 😊

    Thank u for the vid, btw! Helpful as always ^-^
    PS. I'm also curious about ko-fi. I've been seeing a lot of creators lately that they use ko-fi for commissions and/or donations. I myself am considering it cuz the tier thing on patreon kinda intimidates me.
    If anyone has any comment on ko-fi, I'd love to hear it, thanks!

    • @walterostlie

      Yeah, looking like a combination will be the way to go, depending on the topic on hand. I suppose I could say "eyes to the front of the class" ;-)
      I need to look more into ko-fi, someone else mentioned it as well. If it is an easier version of patreon, that could be great. Patreon is awesome, but it is a little "heavy"

So ad rev with tapas, print it as a book to sell, sell the idea to a movie studio, get it published with a publisher. Any are fine.

    I like more this timelapse watching you drawing, and go check KOFI is similar to Patreon the difference is you do not pledge for a monthly subscription, you just invite a KOFI to the artist you like, is a one shoot contribution, some artist share rewards to the ones that back them up there with access to special content or even promotional items, discounts and many more, they are getting day by day and growing, and the artist are running rampage with creativity to reward the people that support them, videos, image galleries, tutorials, KOFI is becoming a great platform ;3

    Hello! Is it required to be 18+ to make money on webtoon?

  • @arteva309
    @arteva309 4 роки тому +2

    I've been writing the story of my webtoon since February and now I've written over 50+ episodes, I can't draw them right now because of not having the app I need so how do I motivate myself because I feel the more I'm writing day by day the story is falling:(

    • @dikichodenbhutia6767
      @dikichodenbhutia6767 4 роки тому +1

      It's okay to feel that way. Just believe in your story and about the falling part... I'm not an expert but just think of it as a trial and error method so that by the time that you get the app you need, your story will be full proof. Sometimes authors start with a bamf story but it starts losing its charm once the author has no idea where to go with the story. All the best to you and your future webtoon story!

    • @walterostlie
      @walterostlie  4 роки тому +2

      I agree with CucuPuffs. I also understand wanting to get the right app before you start, but really you don't have to wait. When you start feeling down about your writing, take a break, and go draw the thumbnails for your story on a piece of paper. Thumbnails are just rough drawings of your story, so you don't need anything fancy. and when you do get your app, you can scan or take a photo of your thumbnails into the app and draw over them. It will be a good head start. And when you start not liking your thumbnails, you can go back to writing. Or character design sketches when you don't want to write or thumbnail. Or just take a walk or sit under a tree and let your brain take a break. Good luck!

    • @walterostlie
      @walterostlie  4 роки тому +1

      You'll find that every website is prolly 13+ and I'm sure it's a big legal thing for the company. Something really expensive lawyers told them to do. So yeah, patreon is also 13+. UA-cam is as well ;-) None of them actually check though. With Patreon you will need another account for the money to transfer to. Like paypal or a bank account. Other than that, it's pretty easy to create your own patreon.

    Personally I enjoy watching a face more than time lapses, preferably while the content of the video is being summarised with words, it helps me keep focused with what's happening. A timelapse feels more disconnected from the content that's being talked about imo (ADHD brain here). I do appreciate all of your content though, so I'll watch wether you choose to do timelapses or show Ur face :)

      A lot of other people have said the same thing. Was my original concern with doing the timelapse, but figured I'd give it a try since most youtuber artists do that, so was thinking people may prefer it, but doesn't seem to be the case. Definitely do a mix I think depending on topic and what fits better.

    • @walterostlie
      @walterostlie  4 роки тому +1

      Trying to make a name for yourself in comics is tough. It's almost like you have to be able to conjure time from nothing. You either have to adjust your comic making schedule to find time to socialize or start drawing while you're eating or using the bathroom or something. I know how you feel. The faster you want it to happen, the less balance you'll have. You have to figure out how much balance you need in your life, work around that need. Don't push yourself further than that, it's gonna take time.

    I was recommended here by a friend who suggested I should use webtoons for my own manga work. The problem is, I don't a laptop nor a tablet to do digital art, so Im stuck with traditional stuff by hand. But my question is, can I use my hand drawings on webtoons or is it only for digital stuff?

    • @walterostlie
      @walterostlie  3 роки тому +3

      Nah, no one cares how you make the art, pen and paper or pushing pixels. Whatever is whatever. Of course, you'll have to get the traditional art digitized at some point. The preferred style for Webtoon is stacked vertical panels, but you can upload traditional print format as well. If you do that, I'd upload at least 3 pages, 5 would be better, per episode. Also pay attention to lettering size, a lot of people are reading on their phones, so traditional print format tends to lead to smaller lettering.
