I really like the look of the paddle shifters! it would be neat to have the factory bird horn cover to really make it look more stock. Thanks for the video!
The module in the steering wheel is surrounded with aluminum and is grounded to the chassis. If the antenna to that module was divorced from the pc board and could be extended into the column, it would probably work more reliably.
Dude I'm jealous! I have the same system (with the screen) and have had it mounted in my track car for about a year. I just haven't wired it in yet (aftermarket column, no horn ring/wire). Soon though, especially after seeing you get one installed.
Great video as always! Appreciate the Intel and thoughts on the paddle shifter, Matt! Can't wait for the next video. Thanks for taking the time to create them! 😊
regarding the intermittent-ness working of the shifter, if you can find what contacts on the board send/receive the upshift downshift signals you could in theory rewire it to be hardlined and not deal with it working only sometimes dunno if they have a diagram of the board or not but its an idea and the 150 dollar wired one, you could 100% diy a paddle setup, take apart the switch and wire some buttons to the shifter contacts and you got yourself a way cheaper paddle shifter. throw in some 3d printed paddles connected to the buttons and you are cooling
Hey Matt, it would be nice to see some updates on the firebird... Especially updates on whether the paddle shifters are more responsive... I'd certainly like to see more interior work get done... Great content as always. Huge fan of the series.
I’ll have another video on the firebird soon. I want to get the interior together before the fall. The paddle shifters have grown on me. They actually work really well after I moved the transmitter to the steering column.
Building a kit car and was considering something like this but now I will rethink this approach and maybe look into like you mentioned a switch on the wheel as some of the aftermarket wheels have them. Great video thanks
My Escalade with manual shift sometimes won't upshift at certain gear and rpm. I use manual shift on it alot. Maybe the shift buttons are getting sticky 🤷. Right now I'm looking at either paddle shifting my Avalanche or just installing a NV3500 manual trans in it.
The issue is it is a radio transmitter that has been encased in thick aluminum. Basically a faraday cage. What they need to do is have a small rubber duck antenna come out, or a simple wire antenna. But the antenna has to be outside of all the aluminum. One thing you could do is power the unit using a small 12v lithium ion battery and see if it cuts out if you still think it is the power delivery. Btw dorman does make a replacement for the horn contact for thirdgens but it is a pain to replace.
My wifes v6 camaro had them. I didn't like it at all. Was slow and wouldn't let you use them hard. Either of us really ever used them. It was annoying in a parking lot sometimes when I would put in manual not thinking and it would drag a bit until I realized and paddled it up until I could slip it into D. If it was a bit more responsive it would be great. That said its a pretty cool adaption.
You mentioned the box was hot when you pulled out from the dash board. Maybe its gets too hot causing it to fail and it needs to be left in the open to stay cool. Or it needs a fan.
im using a bcm from a 2012 caprice ppv to do my paddle shifters. on my third gen camaro . but im also using the caprice engine, trans, all wiring and a bunch of mechanical like dash, pedals and steering. if you have a donor car anything is possible
Ever think about doing a carbon fiber wrap to the hood and headlight covers and maybe even the spoiler? Hell of a lot cheaper than the real thing and would look just as sweet.
I was thinking about wrapping but the car needs a stupid amount of prep for the wrap to stick. Theres some weird bondo cracks on the door and the paint is peeling in so many places
@@lsxmatt oooooh definitely. I'm wrapping my 2003 Vette. I was dumb enough t get a Maaco paint job. It's got runs, cracks and now chips. Gonna be about 1k for the prep. I am horrible with sanding and whatnot. So worth it when it's all done though.
No Escalade video and instead a trans am video? Won’t hear me complain.
Same! I prefer the trans am videos!
Keep the trans am videos coming. Love the build!
So happy to see a Trans Am Video over the Escalade, good stuff. Thanks
I really like the look of the paddle shifters! it would be neat to have the factory bird horn cover to really make it look more stock. Thanks for the video!
I own a v6 92 firebird. Thsi channel gives me hope i will be able to drive it off my driveway 😂😂
Love the paddle shifters on the 3rd gen autos. Makes me want to do something like this to a '80 Turbo Trans Am and making it all look factory.
been loving all the t/a videos man

ahhhh pontiac dash pads... GOLD! Never had the issues with cracking and still look great 30 plus years later

Keep em coming!!🙏🏿
The delay is usually the power management settings. GM has it turned way down so you don’t break the transmission under warranty
You my top 5 automotive youtuber and sir that is a tough list 😂
Dude video was awesome.
Sorry I didn’t work correctly.
Hope it eventually gets better.
I really was hoping because it would look sweet in my 1986 t/a

@@lsxmatt I installed a 6l80 in my firebird several years ago but have never tried the paddle shifters. I’ll most likely build my own out of aluminum.
That dead stop up shirt was kinda cute especially when it chirped third
That is an excellent addition! Another great video!!
Pedal shifters!!!!!!!!!……… HA! LQ9 6.0 bored over .30…. 6.6 with a 6 speed manual!!!! Got your pedal shifters right here 🥜 😂😂😂 love the content tho

Love the trans am I have one
2014 Corvette came with the LT1 and 6L80E FYI.
Ohh good to know!
My 2012 avalanche will match shift too really cool

Some kind of antenna would probably make a huge difference. A wire would be easy to hide too.
That steering wheel
Is dope

I'm working on my 83 TA and my steering wheel is crap. I'd like to have the old one you took off. What's it worth Matt?
Great video bro

Why didn't you go with Lecarra steering wheel that classic GM
Matt's best attribute is his honesty.. never lose that bro. the glamorous UA-camrs are all full of shit.
Side tip name plate,MACHO TA.
Hmm, I think I would go the hardwire the whole thing. Other than that seems pretty slick.
If you haven't already can you post a link on where the steering wheel was sourced from? Thank you! Love these videos!
My bad i found it where you posted it, thanks again
No problem, they’re on backorder though unfortunately. I ended up getting mine on ebay but it cost me about 80 bucks more
My guess is that the metal of the dash was somewhat blocking the wireless signal
Number one ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yep, hardwired! Don't understand what the benefit of the wireless is. If the receiver is 1" from the column, might as well hardwire it.
I looked up the paddle shifter with the link.
I know you spent the money, but could you find a factory BCM to do the job?
im using a bcm from a 2012 caprice ppv to do my paddle shifters. on my third gen camaro . but im also using the caprice engine, trans, all wiring and a bunch of mechanical like dash, pedals and steering. if you have a donor car anything is possible
Maybe you can get a custom horn button with the flaming chicken
That wheel is getting purchased. Do you have a code with MPI?
Sorry I dont
Isnt there any way to get a late model camaro steering column to work with the flappy paddles?
Is this the same shifter that stangkilr is using on his OBS truck builds with the LT4/LT5??
I think so
Receiver would probably work better mounted beneath the column.
👍🏻
2014 vette is 6l90
does it matter the trans ?
I really just don't trust wireless stuff. Is there a way you can wire it in directly?
Not that I know of, I wish you could
If they made their housing and the spacers out of plastic instead of aluminum it would have been fine, but then it would feel cheap.
Do you have a shift kit in the trans
Its a stage 3 circle d, so whatever that kit includes it has.
put the recover under the dash

I wouldn't trust mounting that wifi box behind anything..even plastic. Exposed close by is the way to go.
First one😂😂😂😂😂
Goodyear patches tires for free and patch it from the inside
I already plugged it ☠️
Paddle shifters in anything but a dct is pointless.
Sounds like junk to me
