This is a beautiful rendition of 'Shilo' with Neil's passion and excellence in tone. Doug's clever insertions to various images in movement and added embellishments give added dimensions to certain areas such as a man flying across the screen at 1:41- "I wanted to fly, she made me feel that I could". Audiences love this song and we are delighted that Neil chose to keep it in his repertoire over the years. Thank you, Doug, for the time that you spent to reenact a memory of 1972 in image and sound. ✨

This 1967 jewel was found to be requested by audiences (much to Neil's surprise) and is one of much fantasy in the mind of a young lonely child through his vivid imagination. (It reminds me of a play that I recently saw, Neil Simon's 'Jake's Women). Per Doug's notes above (after the number of views and time stamp), he dedicates this song to the daughter of a Pennsylvania couple who carries the name of Shilo. Doug chose the "Hot August Night" (HAN) concert of 1972 that was never videographed with Neil's heartfelt rendition of the song and still images throughout this video from that special time in Neil's life.

The introductory thumbnail to "Shilo" is outstanding! The vision of this beautiful "Shilo" as a fiery red haired lady would certainly cause many to view your video as are so many that you have produced. It was difficult to keep seeing it without commenting.
Hi Donita, Thanks very much for your kind comments. much appreciated. I have always placed a great deal of importance to the quality/appurtenance of thumbnails. In my opinion they are the shopfront/signage to my videos. When working on "Midnight Train To Georgia" with kind assistance from Louise Poole, I was so engrossed with the making of the video that it completely slipped my mind to create the thumbnail. The upload, much to Louise's consternation, had to be delayed by a couple of hours while I worked on it. Had to remove the background from Neil's image (Dreams album) and also from that of the train. Having spent all that time on that thumbnail, I then felt it justified including in the video proper itself at 14 seconds into the video. This late inclusion at pretty much the start of the video then threw the rest of the images out of sync with the audio.😔

One of my all time favorites. It takes me clear back to thinking about how lonely my childhood was without a friend, so I created an invisible friend. I was so shy, all these years later I still am. I love the digital age. We can hear things as clearly as we did the first 10 or 20 times we listened to it back in 1972 (approx) when I first put the needle onto it. I have never loved someone else's massive library of songs as I do ND. Brooklyn Roads has the same vibe to it, at least for me. Thanks for this one Doug, this was a day I needed to hear THIS song, life's been a bit rough the last couple of months, it's felt more like a year, but it is getting better. Kathy

Hi Doug - it's amazing the number of my favourite versions of ND's songs are on HAN. It just goes to show how truly great this album is. As an aside, there are two schools of thought about how many albums of HAN were bought in Oz. Some sources say one in four households owned HAN whereas others say it was one in three. Can you shed any light on this? For me, it was the original LP album (now framed on my passage wall), then the two updated CD versions in 2000 and the 40th anniversary edition in 2012 - not to mention the six worn out cassettes blaring in the car over three decades! Thanks for your most welcome comments Paul. There will never be another live performance and album quite like Hot August Night. That it resonates with those who had the privilege of listening or owning the album shall forever reside in our collective memory banks. A testament to the greatness of this album. Truth be told, 9 years ago, being painfully aware of the absence of video footage of HAN, I decided to embark on a journey, in a miniscule way, of filling that void by creating slide shows with the extremely limited supply of still images of those Hot August Night on the internet (Why Neil? 🤔😞no excuses, as there were excellent still image cameras available then, Hasselblad springs to mind), Guess Neil had enough on his plate. 😊 My skill level back then, in its infancy, left much to be desired. I have one HAN video yet to update.

I worked in a mining town (5,000), Mt Newman Mining (now BHP Iron Ore) backed then and if you took a stroll down the streets on a Friday or Saturday night, wherever there was a barbecue, the obligatory Hot August Night album would be blaring from massive speakers relocated outside for the get-together. And just about everyone there, seeking to be "hip", claimed they were a Neil Diamond fan. On further probing from a True Believer (😉), one would discover that they only had the Hot August Night album. 😔
I seem to remember an undertaking I made to you, a few years back, to send you, images of framed Neil Diamond T-shirts. Sorry, must get around to them. Problem being that when I stand in front of them, my reflection is a hindrance. 😞
