@Gamers Nexus Are you doing a 3080 Strix review in the near future? The reason I ask is because I'm considering pre-ordering a 3080 Strix OC version before the card comes out instead of waiting for release and pay a "low supply/high demand" premium on top of an already very expensive card. Most reviews I could find all say it's a great card but I still would like a more in depth GN review before I just toss 859 Euros at a random vendor :-) If your review shows it's not worth the Strix premium I'll order a less expensive TUF instead

I've been following your channel almost since you started. It always amazes me how more and more deep you are when doing those reviews each passing year. My guess is that in a few years you will eventually go benchmark the families of the miners who got the metal for the heat sink. Good job and I am looking forward to it! =)
It’s expensive but I remember paying comparable money for two 1080 FE cards and a nVidia SLI bridge for it to do 4K 60 Ultra years ago. This one card can actually hold its own with one card for the same price years later. That said I’m very curious about the RX 6900XT since it is supposed to be about 95% of the performance for 2/3 of the price.
Walked into my local Micro Center in Dallas and found one on the shelf last Saturday. I loved my EVGA FTW3 2080TI and I kept stubbornly turning down ASUS and other 3090's when they popped up. So glad to have found an EVGA FTW3 3090 at MSRP. Such a beast of a card. EVGA's quality is amazing.
I just bought this card. Not because it was my first pick, but because it was literally the only one I could find in stock, thanks to EVGA's queue system. I didn't feel like battling another few months with all my other new parts sitting here unused, so I pulled the trigger. Thanks EVGA!
How the fuck did you get one? Im in the UK, I even got the Auto Notify clicked on both the XC3 and FTW3 Ultra. I can't get either for love nor money. Does the auto notify not work properly in the EU/UK? Or it's only working for USA customers only.....Not even sure if I am in the que and I have had an EVGA account for more than 4 years.
@@adamdavidkenyon6664 Go to EVGA's website and click the notify when available option on the card you want and enter your email. Make sure the email you use is the same one that you used to register your EVGA account. I selected every 3080 and 3090 they had for notification and then after like 4 weeks I got the email. I don't think the wait time for each card is the same, the more popular 3080 cards are likely to have a longer line of people ahead of you. If you aren't sure if you are in the queue just try to sign up with your email again for the notification and it will kick back a message that you were already in line if you already had signed up. However, you might be right that it's only for USA and Canada customers.
@Ali Samin I find it hilarious you all are butt hurt about a few cards that went to reviewers. lol.. Make a fucking channel and get subs if you want one. A hand full of cards isn't going to stop the shortage. Just stop crying and wait for them to come back in stock like an adult.
I got my FTW3U (3080) on Saturday finally, and while I don't have buyer's remorse, had I known how much of a power hog it was and how much louder and inefficient it was *on air*, and how it seems entirely aimed at water cooling only, AND if there had been any actual supply (so many hypotheticals), I would have 100% just purchased a TUF. Having said that, I've undervolted mine and dropped 85w off the top end, lowered the thermals by 8C as well as reduced the fan noise, while maintaining stock speeds. Only had it almost a week now, so I might run into some instability issue with something at some point, but after eight hours of stress testing and about sixteen hours in various games, nothing yet. The 30 series seem like the first Nvidia cards where undervolting makes more sense than overclocking. The gains on actual overclocking are abysmal for normal users.
Does anyone else remember when he internet shit itself freaking out about the RX 480 overdrawing PCI-E slots? I wonder if we'll hear any whining about the 3090 doing the exact same thing
I find it mildly appalling that, in today's day, this GPU can cost more than double the cost of an entire, respectable gaming system, built from scratch.
After watching this I began to doubt my 3090 purchase but I gotta say, when you have a 49” 1440p monitor, every little bit does help. Plus, it does feel nice to own the best card on the market. For the moment at least
Great review and I'm sure you had most if not all of this done before today but EVGA did release a new bios that pushes the card to 500w. I would love to see a second video touching on if the extra 50w really made any difference. Or maybe just touch on it on your weekly news video but either way I'd love to hear your input.
I signed up 0n 9/24 through EVGA to be notified. I was notified and bought the card a few days ago. 1,951$ which includes tax and standard shipping. Will have it Monday when UPS drops it off😎
I'm so glad you keep iterating "it doesn't really matter what card you get" I have this argument so many times with so many people who get the 'best of the best' for an extra $300-$500 without them realising you would have a MUCH bigger jump just getting the next family up (2070 to 2080 etc)
My guess is the next generation will be a lot more focused on efficiency, I feel that there's no way any reasonable cooler would be able to handle a 500-600w graphics card so they probably will have to release something for the next architecture that's a lot more efficient than Ampere and (probably) RDNA 2. It is pretty crazy though, 400w graphics cards are pretty insane already.
@@float32 Yeah, even with the 200~ watt cards I've been using my room gets really hot if I dont have my window open (live in cali). 300+ seems insane to me already.
@@awesup1927 they definitely should think about turning it around and concentrate on efficiency more, but as for now, they probably want to impress everyone with performance 😀. I don't think it will be a big deal to cool down even a 500-600w graphics card with water cooling and 240 radiator!
A great review as I find myself in the exact situation comparing the 3090 FE and the 3090 ftw3 ultra gaming. I only have one critique, in the gaming section you did not include any figures for your 3090 FE overclocked, just stock. I wish you had included overclocked FE scores so I could easily see in this video see how they compare in overclocking.
The evga 3090 does an ok job at actually cooling the backside vram modules. And ok cooling for the backside vram on 3090s is basically top tier for most models. The founders edition is literally trash at cooling the vram on the back. EVGA card actually leverages a heatpipe to help move heat away and the cutouts in the board allow it to act like a heatsink fin. Also I would much rather deal with EVGA than nvidia if I had to do any type of warranty, included in that is knowing I can change pads and thermal paste in a year or two and still have said warranty. Lastly, I was able to pay 60 dollars to extend the warranty to 10 years. So if you got it at msrp I would definitely say its a solid purchase.
At least evga has their queue system so you don't have to depend on luck. I signed up for notifications on release day and my 3090 ftw3 ultra should be here tomorrow.
Can you guys do a video on the EVGA 500W XOC Bios not working on FTW3 3090s. It is a huge issue over on the EVGA forums right now because EVGA's own bios is not getting to 500W on their own FTW3 cards despite the same bios working perfectly on the cards of other brands. It appears similar to what is said in the video, EVGA cheaped out on components on their $1800 card which gimped its performance.
You could be the last person to comment and the 3090s would still be sold out. The Unobtainium needed to make them is still is deep space on its way back from Pandora.
@@hellothere4342 who cares if it’s ‘worth it’. If you can afford something better than a 3080 here it is. And guess what, you gotta pay for that. Is it double the benefit? No. And nobody is claiming it is. Is it better in any way at all? Yes. And there is your answer.
I have had my FTW3 Ultra 3090 in my system for 2 days now and it's mind-blowing fast. I've never had this type of performance ever. I play on a 1440p 165Hz Gigabyte monitor and with ultra Settings and Raytracing on Modern Warfare I get an average of 158FPS with G-Sync enabled. I know it was rediculous expensive. Hopefully it will last me at least 3 years or more like Pascal cards did when they went to market. BTW I paid $1998.74 after taxes and shipping costs.

Great and thorough review. I just snagged one of these well below MSRP for a new mini ITX build (in an NR200P case, hope it fits...) "As far as we know, the lab did not in fact exceed the temperature of the sun during testing." Hilarious.
I just got this card for 700$CAD, the performance is mostly excellent, but my goodness its hot! Heats up my room after 1-2 hours by multiple degrees, and even at idle is 50 degrees Celsius!
The average gaming PC consumer frankly doesn’t care about power draw. I would venture to say most enuthusiasts don’t care about power draw. Power draw has yet to be a factor in the mind of consumers - so why would an award be weighted on it? I agree it should be a metric, but gaming PCs are still all about performance. That metric would be best for laptops, other mobile devices... I would love to see that sort of content. But still - you don’t see power draw show up on marketing slides (unless maybe it’s all there is to offer)
was on EVGAs list for a 3080 and a 3090 ftw3 ultra.my number came up for the 3090 seeing as the 3080 was selling (scalpers) for more than the 3090 MSRP bought it have zero regrets its a awesome card and stomps everygame at 1440 ultraed out.
I ordered this card from the EVGA notification queue. I'd much rather have the FE, but my best buy 3090 order got cancelled. It's the only thing I could somewhat easily get my hands on from a legit store. Better paying ~1800$ for a 3090 than ~1500$ for a scalper's 3080, at least that's what I tell myself. I used some random associate code that I found and saved 5%. That's a good thing to keep in mind for the EVGA.com store.

Got the 3090 FTW3 Ultra on launch. Disappointed to see the 3090 FE got within 1% frames yet I paid more than $300 more. Really makes me think I might look at the FE for the 4000 series.
I just got this card today. It’s a noticeable improvement over my 2080 Ti with the Hybrid cooler. I’ve not tried to OC or change bios. Under load in a well ventilated Phanteks case, temperatures stay between 70 and 80. It is definitely expensive... But I was on EVGA’s mailing list and got an email yesterday saying they had one for me. It was hard to resist... Total with tax and overnight shipping came out to almost 2K... But that’s really the only 3000 card I was able to buy (without buying from a scalper).
FYI Just ordered my card from the wait list on EVGA. I signed up for notification about 2 days before they told everyone they would start a list... I signed up for every card notification and received an email for the 3090 card being reviewed here. So stay positive... they are coming....
Just picked this up for $1140 to replace my Zotac 3060 Ti OC card... only picked up this 3090 cause of the price, and had to pick up a new psu (Corsair RM1000x) for $119 prime sale, since I was running an old corsair GS700 psu... hope the extra fps is worth it
Hi Steve, any chance of adding to your tests power consumption at fixed fps (60, 120, 144, etc) comparing to other GPUs to see how efficient or not they are?
You wanna know how I ended up with a 3090? Pandy provided me with a whole lot of free time at home, in front of my 4700k/GTX 1080, but then pandy taketh away when I decided to get one of those 3070s. - after Sniper bots, discord notifications, nothing worked, I decided to camp out Microcenter. - MC had a missed shipment coming that afternoon I went to line up, 20th in line, there turned out to be about seventeen 3070/3080s - I was the “first” in line “without a ticket to buy” and they only had MSI and EVGA 3090s, I got the last evga for 1800, kid behind me had to settle for like a $2,300 MSI 3090. I did not choose this life. But I do like the thermal sensors, otherwise, I thought it was one of the quieter and cooler 3090s, sucks it’s not. But my insane airflow setup has the fans under 70 and temps average 65° under maximum load.
Hear, hear! High, cheap, airflow has kept my 3090 around that temp too! Runs games splendidly and a game I enjoy playing, Squad, can run with high quality settings that consume high memory without concern!

As for fan spindown, I personally hate the feature. Because the way these cards handle being plugged into a 3-4 monitor setup. They simply won't clock down fully when you use more than 2 monitors resulting in the fan continuously spinning up and stopping a few seconds later, not only is this annoying sound wise, but it's also very bad for the fans. I pretty much have to change it in software every time.

Hi Tech-Jesus! Did you see Newegg was scalping the Colorful Tomahawk GeForce RTX 3090 24G 1695Mhz GDDR6X video card at $2,745... What the heck! - I was never a fan of getting gouged by Newegg especially their premiums for the Threadripper 3970X and 3960X last winter, but I sucked it up and and was willing to pay the $150 premium...UNTIL my Micro Center came in to stock and sold me the 3960X for MSRP. Not surprisingly, Newegg sold out of these $2,745 cards in less than an hour, but my view of them now is no better than those launch-day bot-buyers scalping on Ebay. I will wait for my Chicago area Micro Center again this time and try for a 6900XTX at or close to MSRP. Keep up the great analysis!
@@mrsparefox3704 Thanks for pointing that out, I had forgotten they have 3rd party sellers as everything I've purchased from Newegg the past 2 years has come "sold & shipped" by Newegg. Well, i think to get the best out of this card withing reasonable limits you'd have to put it under water. Igor extracted up to 2.2Ghz from a 3080 with an Alphacool Block, so i assume with the higher power limit you have higher limits if you can cool it. To me personally a card with a higher powerlimit is always preferable as i do watercool it. As someone who has always bought parts based on a price/performance ratio heavily emphasizing optimizing for the knee of the curve, this 3090 release amazes me. Although from a content producer perspective I can understand the coverage, it's what your user base likely wants, I just don't 'get' how over sensationalized this stuff is, the 3090 release was so over hyped fed by foaming at the mouth fanbois it damages my opinion of the PC maker scene as a whole, although your coverage of it has been great. We're really at the point where you're discussing percentage points that are beyond human perception after how many dozens if not hundreds of hours benching this stuff? My desire to be cost conscious while performance minded is slightly offended. But you guys cover that end of things fairly well too, I would love to see your charts contain some kind of value metric based on all data points you've collected normalized across price/performance, a really hard trick to pull off but it would in my opinion represent the single most important metric you could produce with the data collected even if it would be a bear to come up with the proper data to feed into and normalize.
Remember Nvidia makes hardware/software but they are really a Marketing Company. Think about it from that angle. Nvidia are masters of marketing. They release the hottest loudest cards ever, with not actually a huge improvement "in fact one of the worst in their history" but yet their marketing has done such a great job to get people to "reflex buy" as soon as a card is available. And condition the people to be willing to pay 2x / 3x /4x the msrp of the card.
I have the opportunity to pick up a 3090 FE card from a friend for around $400 and I feel like I'd be insane not to take it, but I'm not sure how much I'll realistically see in performance uplift. I just thought of this while watching one of Jay’s videos - you guys never really build PC’s. You guys are my go-to for the best products and value assessments, so it seems natural for you guys to design and build what you consider a “best” PC (in your opinion). What do you prioritize? I just bought this card. Not because it was my first pick, but because it was literally the only one I could find in stock, thanks to EVGA's queue system. I didn't feel like battling another few months with all my other new parts sitting here unused, so I pulled the trigger. Thanks EVGA!
Looks like the same thing happened to me! Will say it’s going to be a good holiday season, cheers!
The same thing just happened to me!
Just happened to me too. Got the same card today
I'm really glad you got 100% of all the stock available.
In an ideal world the reviewers would get the thing before it went on general sale.
Even the most shitty UA-camr with > 3k subscribers has at least one 3080/3090.
I'll quit all my subs...it sucks
I got my 3090 it's amazingly fast.
@Ali Samin I find it hilarious you all are butt hurt about a few cards that went to reviewers. lol.. Make a fucking channel and get subs if you want one. A hand full of cards isn't going to stop the shortage. Just stop crying and wait for them to come back in stock like an adult.
You're not trying hard enough. Why stop at 100% with your idiocy? Why not go to 110%?
Because it's Nvidia so no one cares
Steve's lock ups are actually funny, it's like he knows exactly what to say, but with a regret.
You mentioned BLENDER! Finally a hardware reviewer that understands it's not just about gaming :-)
I find it mildly appalling that, in today's day, this GPU can cost more than double the cost of an entire, respectable gaming system, built from scratch.
It'll also crossover into next gen amd they are working on ps 6 already
After watching this I began to doubt my 3090 purchase but I gotta say, when you have a 49” 1440p monitor, every little bit does help. Plus, it does feel nice to own the best card on the market. For the moment at least
I agree man. My 3090 is my bb

A great review as I find myself in the exact situation comparing the 3090 FE and the 3090 ftw3 ultra gaming. I only have one critique, in the gaming section you did not include any figures for your 3090 FE overclocked, just stock. I wish you had included overclocked FE scores so I could easily see in this video see how they compare in overclocking.
my doubt also... i cant figure out why he didnt do FE oc
If a GPU performs very well, but nobody can buy it, does it even exist? A question for the philosophers.

I have had my FTW3 Ultra 3090 in my system for 2 days now and it's mind-blowing fast. I've never had this type of performance ever. For the GPU Awards, it might be useful to do performance VS power draw

Pandy provided me with a whole lot of free time at home, in front of my 4700k/GTX 1080, but then pandy taketh away when I decided to get one of those 3070s.
- after Sniper bots, discord notifications, nothing worked, I decided to camp out Microcenter.
- MC had a missed shipment coming that afternoon I went to line up, 20th in line, there turned out to be about seventeen 3070/3080s
- I was the “first” in line “without a ticket to buy” and they only had MSI and EVGA 3090s, I got the last evga for 1800, kid behind me had to settle for like a $2,300 MSI 3090.
I did not choose this life. But I do like the thermal sensors, otherwise, I thought it was one of the quieter and cooler 3090s, sucks it’s not. But my insane airflow setup has the fans under 70 and temps average 65° under maximum load.

4. 3080 fe (kinda noisy, kinda warm. no oc room but on early drivers)
5. 3090 msi ventus oc. (early drivers, but semi noisy, artifacting at stock-dud of a card)
sticking with the 90 fe...at 114% +100 core oc im at around 63c.
my 80 ftw ultra at +100 core at 118% power i was about 72c.

But the price gouging was like 150$ on that model all MSRP & conversion taken into account so not too too bad I guess...
@@dralord1307 this is way beyond Nvidia. This occurs across they entire 'gaming hardware' market.
you need a value metric? you can't draw these types of conclusions with all the data presented? lol come on man..
ahh the pain of seeing that a mare 1800usd was "expensive". Those were the days...
I have the opportunity to pick up a 3090 FE card from a friend for around $400 and I feel like I'd be insane not to take it, but I'm not sure how much I'll realistically see in performance uplift. Currently running an EVGA 2080ti FTW3. The catch is my monitor is only 1440p 120hz though I guess I DO have a 4k 120hz HDR capable TV I could hook it to...
Same comments on every single 3000 series card review video...
"Every tech reviewer has all the 3000 series gpu's while it's out of stock😭😭"
shits gettin old.
It ain't gonna stop until Nvidia gets off their ass and produce more GPUs
@@arvinsim 🤦♂️
@@arvinsim Nvidia already said stock is going to come back early 2021 so lets all stop bitchin and wait.

Where does he get all of these wonderful toys?
Just over $2700 with tax here in Canada - All PC components have just about doubled in price in the last few years ;o(
I hope UA-cam will survive until 2030 because this video will be relevant that time for second hand buyers who can finally obtain this item.
I just thought of this while watching one of Jay’s videos - you guys never really build PC’s. You guys are my go-to for the best products and value assessments, so it seems natural for you guys to design and build what you consider a “best” PC (in your opinion). What do you prioritize? Which brands do you trust? Where is money often unnecessarily wasted in a build? Is it lit the fuck up with LEDs?
Just a thought. I’d love to see a Gamers Nexus recommended line of PC’s in the different form factors.
