Personally, I get the feeling the 3090ti is more of a panic response to AMD's aggressive push against them as of late. I don't really see how the 3090 Ti works toward that goal. The 3090 is already very very slightly faster than the 6900 XT on average and it won't stand a chance against RDNA3 or Lovelace. Nvidia technically has the top dog performance so the 3090 Ti changes nothing and it only sabotages Nvidia's own reputation. I don't understand why Nvidia would release this GPU, unless they really are trying to sell off remaining A6000 stock.

This is just Nvidia milking a screwed up gpu market for all the money they can.

I went from a 2 1080 GTX "SLI" -- Yes, I know rendering will not use SLI, sadly, curse the CUDA - -into this beast, and my render times went from 3 mins to sometimes 30 seconds. For the same scene. I don't think this Ti will change enough about render times, that I will bother with this card though.

@@shayliakara That is interesting. I'm running a pair of Quadro 5000s with NVLink and when I added the second one my render times were cut in half. I didn't realize that Octane couldn't use SLI on those cards. So it's just for realtime design work that you get the performance bump?

    • @mapesdhs597
      @mapesdhs597 2 роки тому +1

@@promographics1654 SLI is not relevant for rendering of this kind, it doesn't work that way. One can cable it up and turn it on, but it won't make any useful difference.
If it's about paying the bills though then power consumption may matter, ie. cost per frame, factoring in the lifetime usage vs. expected return (something slower but more efficient doesn't help if it means one can't meet deadlines. :D) Usually the sweet spot is multiple middleground cards, though years ago I did put four GTX 580s in a system to test out CUDA scaling with AE, worked pretty well. For a Blender build in a warm environment though (engineering company in India) I used two GTX 980s, that was a good compromise - faster than a 1080 Ti, and back then the cost of the latter was too prohibitive.
Btw Promo, you'd get a decent speed bump from the K series Quadros, though for rendering the gains are much larger with equivalent gamer cards, assuming the lesser VRAM isn't an issue, though it does depend on the application. The main movie company I know though just uses RTX 8000s, they need the VRAM for unc. 8K. Mind you, the later M series cards ought to be on the used market by now.
One advantage of Quadros is they have a full speed PCIe return path (gamer cards don't, because it's not necessary for gaming).

Finally got a 3090. Had to wait on a list. Maybe in 10 years I'll be in the market for another upgrade, if I start saving now. They are out of their minds if they think this is a sustainable annual upgrade for most people.

@@manuelmunguia616 for the asking price it better play modern games in ten years 🙄. IMHO It's not even about the time span as it is the performance to dollars . Lately its been a joke at best.

@@manuelmunguia616 Eh, I wouldn't say it will be _completely_ obsolete but it will probably be the bare minimum. Keep in mind, the current generation of consoles aren't even close to being this powerful and they usually stick around for 10ish years.

These days, with mining the way it is, you can make your money back instantly, especially cards that don't have the LHR limitation. All new gaming cards (produced after last May, I think) all have LHR baked in to prevent miners from depleting the inventory. The 3090/3090 Ti doesn't have that limitation.

  • @DeividasGedgaudas

I'm pretty sure the limitation is the optimization, back-end and/or the engines that are running rather than the card itself. Like you cannot push the raw performance that was not accounted or even optimized for in a game or old benchmarks.
Let's give it 3 months, when more people get this card and game engines/benchmarks and synthetic loads get adjusted to actually USE this cards potential and then see the results and comparisons ;)

It won’t be able to run all games at native 4k ultra at a stable 60FPS. The 3090 Ti is 10% faster than the 3090 so that’s definitely not a big enough performance increase run all games at 4k ultra at 60FPS. The 4090 might be able to get a stable 60FPS at native 4k ultra with RTX. The RTX 40 series are meant to be a huge performance increase over the 30 series.

The relocation of the power input to the side of the card makes so much sense. Makes me wonder why more cards don’t have that !

Somehow there needs to be a "day to day" use, "headache or no headache" test suite. Like is the card better when moving through or around a heavy Blender file (or Maya, Unreal Engine, whatever), or video render times, definitely not crypto mining but maybe something like Folding At Home (dependent upon the task but as an average run a few of them) and even if the FPS on various games is measurable, at this point anecdotal evidence is equally valuable, like was it smoother, were the Elden Ring stutters less impactful, just how well CAN it run Crysis... Always important is NVidia driver technology stuff too, they seem to do a solid job improving things over time but they have Gane Ready AND Studio drivers now. So how does it perform at Creator tasks with a Studio Driver, Game tasks with a Game Driver?
Just some ideas. Love it Jay, Phil. Thanks!
