I’m a mental health therapist and I responded to domestic violence calls under a police department. On the one call I was not escorted by an armed officer (he left for an officer down call) both myself and the victim were beaten by the perpetrator who had returned to the scene as soon as he knew the squad car had left. I have worked on several crisis teams, and my experience has convinced me that unarmed “alternative” officers will NOT be effective. We can act as support officers, but are unlikely to control the scene without authority.

What?? What?? That’s literally an extremist type of statement. I encourage you to look up the channel “lack luster” and “audit the audit”. Our current way of policing is ineffective and the war on drugs is mostly to blame. Especially in democratic areas and major cities that are the most effected. We have police that don’t even know the constitution and they are literally Sovereign citizens because of qualified immunity. I agree we need a police force but not a militarized one that doesn’t even know the laws. It’s easier to become a police officer than it is to become a mechanic. And one you have a gun. Our current and continuing system of justice is corrupt at the least and criminal at the peak. Repeat offenders who commit multiple armed violent crimes are out to wander free and addicts are forced to go to things like 90day-1 year rehabs, DUIs (victimless crime) sometimes people will get 3-5 years even when no one was hurt and they barely blew over the limit. Police get nearly endless funding and top of the line military equipment. Zero things in place to hold them accountable like mental health screens annually or physical fitness.

We fell for this in my town back in the 2000s. The city passed some giant bond measure to rehire all the cops they lost. Guess what those cops did? They gave out speeding tickets. 1000s of them. Crime continued to get worse. Taxes went up. A city manager embezzled a bunch of the bond money and was never prosecuted.
It was all bad. Don't fall for this. Get rid of your city council and DA first. Until the leadership changes, no amount of new officers will make a difference. You will just get ripped off.

Starting a new country isn't easy. The new government runs on donation instead of taxation. Non lethal alternatives for public policing in Cascadia are in order. Lethal force by police, execution and abortion are banned across the continent now for the same reason. This is just understanding basic rights.
