Similar to the overly nice one, the one who says stuff like "you have so much potential", "you have a knack for this", and "you could really be something someday" because they need students to keep coming back to pay the bills
Or they're used to nervous students, that are so physically tense... Building a students confidence is an acceptable foundation teaching method, (e.g. no one plays well if they cannot relax).
@@Emma-kz3zr I can agree with this. I just don't like it when they tell kids that they'll be the next Steve Vai. Commendation is important but teachers need to emphasize that skill is achieved by hard work and practice, not just talent. If you tell someone they have a "gift" they will get frustrated and stop when they get to the hard technical stuff because no amount of talent can break that wall.
You forgot the one that always brings you down, and says you'll never be good enough... I'm self taught (If you liked my self doubt here you should sub and see my self doubt in videos)
T: "So what do you want to learn?" S: "Uhh... Scales" T: "Okay, what kind?" S: "Well, I don't know them?" Y'know, when a teacher was really bad at analysing student needs. On the flip side, when they're so dedicated to their own lesson plan they're trying to teach you stuff you learnt years ago.
I remember my first guitar teacher. He had a weird sitting posture and taught me a weird fingering technique where I would finger the frets at an angle - never broke that habit. His style is mine now. I also got his "spider fingers" while I was being taught. He was an excellent teacher, but the one after him was even better. A real shame that 2and teacher quit. I stopped lessons after that.
@@khada225 Another guitar instructor I had after the first one said it was "spider fingers* (basically I could stretch them far) and it was distinctly the way my previous instructor played guitar. I wish I could explain more, but it's been so long and my technique has probably changed since I stopped lessons, but I think it's just I bent my fingers at a weird angle. I'm not sure what's the proper way is though.
@Rainbow Dash that sounds so cool! Don’t be ashamed about that, as with fingering there is a VERY loose line of “proper technic” at least in my book. I mean look at Hendrix and compare how he holds his guitar to someone like Steve Vai. Everyone has a different playing technic, which is why I love this instrument so much! It’s so personable.
Im working like that after one year of the basic lessons. Its the best to be like a friend with your students :) With some of them,i played also in concerts ! JJGamerboy i think you got the perfect teacher.
I learned from my friends Dad. He taught me the same way he taught his son, “No dummy, like this.”, “Were you dropped on your head?” This is no lie. He was hilarious.
Anytime someone asks me to teach them how to play guitar I automatically turn into the overly nice one. Not sure if it's because I care about their feelings or if it's because if I lie to then they'll leave me alone
I had a jazz teacher once who was really chill and a great guitarist, but apparently I reminded him a ton of himself, which after playing with him more I could totally see
i had the one that turns everything into a life lesson lol. honestly the best type, like 70% sure he was stoned most of the time but he made learning the guitar feel like getting high (if that makes any sense?)
I had a teacher once that could cram an hour of theory on top of 20 minutes of scales and teaching two songs at the same time every week within a 45 minute lesson. 😳 all while doing his best impression of the dude from whiplash. I could never practice enough for him. I was terrified of him. Years later I ran into him at a gig. His band opened for us. Dude in real life was cool as heck. We were good friends after that until he passed. Seriously terrifying though. 😳
I have never actually taken guitar lessons lmao. I always thought that learning from amazing people like you was a more prominent choice, and because of that decision here I am playing guitar when I could have just stopped years ago! This was a funny video indeed!
I took a few lessons back when I was 15 in 2000, but after the guy showed me bar chords, power chords and a few basic songs with some solos, and also showed me how to use tablature, I continued learning by myself. During the pre/early internet era lessons were more common because the information to learn wasn't as easily accessible as it is now, especially if you were from a rural area like I was. Now you can learn all the basics for free online. Not that you couldn't learn on your own before the internet, but now everything is made so much easier to learn with all the videos etc. if you are willing to put in the effort.
@@yearginclarke Ahh yes that is true. I just always felt the need to learn on my own, because I honestly believe that now with my current skill, experience, and amount of time I have had with the instrument, I don't need to go to classes or lessons. @@RC32Smiths01 Yeah I don't think anyone really needs lessons anymore. The only "lessons" I got after my start was playing with other guitarists and in a band. But mostly I learned everything on my own, and focused on developing playing by ear after a while.
@@yearginclarke Ahh yes I did most of the same, minus ever being in a band haha. He is totally the type of, “let me put your fingers in the right place and just dooooo it!”. I’ve learnt more from his many years of wisdom than I would have in my own lifetime of playing. Amazing tips and tricks, for guitar and playing live, things you’d never think could be a problem etc. I love my dad.

zippythedinosaur X actually, one interview he said that james kicked his dog and Dave punched him in the face, and that was basically it. I think he is not ”punk ass bitch”, I think he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

I think they usually mean it when they say that you have potential

I remember my first guitar teacher. He had a weird sitting posture and taught me a weird fingering technique where I would finger the frets at an angle - never broke that habit. His style is mine now. I also got his "spider fingers" while I was being taught. He was an excellent teacher, but the one after him was even better. A real shame that 2and teacher quit. I stopped lessons after that.
that "weird fingering technique" sounds interesting. well, probably have to discover it someday..

For the life lesson teacher he reminds me of Robert California
I love this reference to the office
Dwight: "Stop trying to figure me out."
Rober California: "I already have."
Watching this to make sure I’m not one of these type of teachers. Haha
Me too !
This the video that shows that you should learn guitar by yourself
Actually I had all of those teachers In one.

Maybe the experience of witnessing a lesson could change my perspective eventually, but as of now, I am happy where I am. Also really informative and awesome story of your history to see my man.
@@RC32Smiths01 Yeah I don't think anyone really needs lessons anymore. The only "lessons" I got after my start was playing with other guitarists and in a band. I did learn a little about song arrangement, timings and structure by playing in an amateur garage band from the more experienced guys. But mostly I learned everything on my own, and focused on developing playing by ear after a while.
@@yearginclarke Ahh yes I did most of the same, minus ever being in a band haha. Ye I find that not only learning on our own helps develop guitar skill as time progresses along with consistency and determination, it also makes ye feel proud of yourself and builds self esteem for more general life experiences.
I've never taken lessons, did it all myself but if I ever had one he would probably be the stinky sick life lesson guy.
I had one teacher on the list.. The one who wouldn't stop playing. But then i got lucky and got the coolest teacher ever. He knew how to push me to do the boring stuff then would finish each lesson teaching whatever song i wanted. Best part was that he was the human embodiment of Auto the school bus driver on the simpsons. Dam i miss that dude!
My dad taught me guitar, its actually disgusting how talented he is and has never taken a lesson, just sickening lol.

My teacher was every single one, because its you! Guitar super system is worth it guys.
My guitar teacher only really does group lessons for small kids but he does private lessons for me ‘because I’m nice and listen to him’ 🤷♀️😂
He plays country but teaches me rock and he doesn’t know how to play stairway to heaven. Yes you read that right. Not that he isn’t able to just never learned to.
He is a bit too nice and really wants to hear me sing because he’s convinced I’d be good when in reality I can’t sing for shit.
He’s also constantly away either doing sessions or just away in general so I don’t get lessons every week.
Cool dude tho I can’t complain that much
How do people play those big ass hollow body acoustic electric weird guitars
Slowly, with care and delicacy. Mostly jazz lol
They're nice but not very practical a lot of times.
Initial sound is generally created with a pick, or the fingers. Note selection is achieved by pressing the fingers of the other hand on the fretboard.
have you ever held an acoustic? yea it's one of those but thinner lol
Zeke Ryan I’ve held and played a few acoustics. Just not a fan of them lol
Definitely forgot the "I'm old never got anywhere so now I teach snot nosed kids and I hate it" guy.
Mine was definitely the overly nice one. He was so encouraging all the time. One time we were learning free bird's solo and i starting just freestyling on the pentatonic scale and he stopped me, looked at me, and goes "YOU SOUND JUST LIKE HIM" i was 13...

“Hey man! What song do you want to learn this week?”
“I wanna learn wagon wheel.”
“Ok let me go print out the chords…”
My current one is always jacked up on caffeine and shredding lol
