Another drummer doing lead vocals The Warning my band find of the lockdown ua-cam.com/video/FK7pLOWEYJU/v-deo.html this is Pau ( Paulina) Lead guitar Daniela ( who also does lead vocals) and base Ale (Alejandra) three sisters from Mexico they are 16, 18 and 13 at the time of this recording. They have already opened for bands like The Killers at festivals.
All girl band - DOLL$BOXX - a side project of Gacharic Spin (four musicians) with singer Fuki (the blond). They released an album called DOLLS APARTMENT which is a loose concept album about starting a band and trying to get successful. Monopoly (4th song) is sort of about the singer (Fuki) getting famous and getting a big ego and leaving the others behind. The third song is called "Take my chance" - this is a put-on of what it takes for a new group to make it, playing at small clubs, hoping to attraction attention. It's kind of difficult to put this band into a single category as they play all types of rock. The singer in this project, Fuki, is considered one of the best female rock/metal vocalist around and has worked/working is a lot of different projects. Her longest band is called Unlucky Morpheus and is more metal. To listen to them try this - CADAVER REVADAC - ua-cam.com/video/gxN3L2jrrEI/v-deo.html - be sure to watch the whole 9 minutes - the first part is the main song, the second part is the first part played in reverse (scored note for note backwards). You will like Gacharic Spin. They started around 2009 with the drummer Hana (Hana Sano - blue hair - she is also the main singer) and the bassist F Chopper Koga (Michiko Koga), guitarist Tomo-zo (Tomoko Midorikawa) and keyboards Oreo Reona. Three of the girls were born in 1986 and the keyboardist in 1988. These four are exceptionally talented musicians. The guitarist and bassist are considered some of the best players in Japan. Gacharic Spin 2010 - this is (I believe) their first video (about 4 minutes) with a singer (Armmy) that left in 2012 due to health issues (she later passed away in 2015) - ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html Gacharic Spin 2013 - this is a live performance (2:17:45) at 1:08:00 there is a drum solo by Hana, the blue haired drummer - ua-cam.com/video/mLnA2GSKsZU/v-deo.html Gacheric Spin 2014 - My own Cinderella - ua-cam.com/video/G_t2CEc9Qjk/v-deo.html
Great reaction. So glad you enjoyed this. Fuki is my favorite vocalist, bar none, so I'm always happy to see her projects get some love. :-) If you want to continue the Doll$boxx (pronounced "Dollsbox") journey, you could watch all of the videos in order. They made a video for all 9 main songs on their debut album, 'Dolls Apartment' (released in 2012). In order, they are: 1. Loud Twin Stars 2. Merriy High Go Round 3. Take My Chance 4. Monopoly 5. ロールプレイング・ライフ 6. Fragrance 7. Karakuri Town 8. おもちゃの兵隊 9. Doll's Box. The 10th song on the album is a remake of a Gacharic Spin song, so it didn't get a video. A little background on Gacharic Spin: all of the instrumentalists in Doll$boxx are from Gacharic Spin. Hana (drums/vocals), Oreo (keys/vocals), Koga (bass), and Tomo-zo (guitar). During their 2011/2012 tour, their vocalist (Armmy) left, leaving them without a singer. Fuki (who at the time was with Light Bringer (R.I.P.) and Unlucky Morpheus) joined them for a few live dates to fill in. They loved the chemistry so much, they formed Doll$boxx. Afterward, rather than hiring another singer, Hana and Oreo became the two lead vocalists for Gacharic Spin. Doll$boxx released an EP in 2017 called 'high $pec' and a live DVD in 2018. I will see if I can find some live clips from that for you to view. They sound great live, too.
Fuki is the guest singer to this project band Doll$Boxx, all other members are from Gacharic Spin. The bassist is the band leader of Gacharic Spin. They are an excellent band - more pop rock but rocker than pop, not as hard as Band Maid. All are top tier musicians. If you are interested >>> Gacharic Spin "Next Stage" LIVE (dvd) >>>>>>>> ua-cam.com/video/1o2srnF-QfM/v-deo.html (you will be amazed)
It's already been suggested but I'll suggest it again. DOLL$BOXX - Take My Chance (there's a live version) If you want to hear Fuki and the drummer Hana sing a duet - Loud Twin Stars. An awesome live performance where Hana smashes a unique drum solo and Fuki kills the intro search Gacharin Spin drum solo!
Hey Chase, just discovered you tonight! It's so cool to witness someone else going down the same rabbit hole I went down four years ago, with Babymetal, Band Maid, Doll$Boxx, and Unlucky Morpheus. Especially someone who's a lot more musically literate than I am. It's great to hear someone breakdown all these songs and help me understand further why I love all of them. Fuki truly has no equal in this world, as far as I am concerned, so I would be interested to hear your take on a song from her solo album last year - Bloody Rain. It features Jill, the violinist of Unlucky Morpehus, and Mao, a keyboardist that's been with her for many years. It also showcases her tremendous vocal range. I could recommend a bunch of other Japanese groups, but I figure I'd keep the Fuki train rolling!
another great reaction. check out Take My Chance by Doll$Boxx it was the first I heard of them and blew me away. was so much fun to watch and listen to. Discovering music from Japan over the past few years has been an incredible journey, there is just so much talent. cheers
You will never can step out the world of japanese music :P This group got only 2 albums but the "original band" Gacharin Spin got more, you have to check them too :D
yes they are great delicious live absolutly wonderful made me cry at the end (the bass player talking about the other members ) and i dont speak japanesse soooo good
I really appreciate your diving into every aspect of the music. I adore Fuki's style and voice, so it's sometimes easy for me to overfocus on her. Your breakdown greatly helps me appreciate everything going on in a song.
I miss Light Bringer :( was a great band. But Fuki looks like another person when she is with Unlucky Morpheus, you can see she enjoy so much, more than in the shows with LB
Funny enough Doll$boxx is also a side project for the rest of the band. They make up the fantastic band Gacharic Spin. You should definitely check out their work as well. They recently released a new song/video Gold Dash
Take my Chance is the next one you should listen to: ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html And, of course check out Gacharic Spin as well, the main band of the other four girls in Doll$boxx. Some complete live insanity: ua-cam.com/video/yVTp3SESzpY/v-deo.html or if you want to enjoy more of that bass: ua-cam.com/video/2r9mAoaYcRM/v-deo.html (the video has a long talking break in the middle, you can just skip it to around 3:50)
You might like to check out Gacharic Spin, the band behind Fuki in Doll$Boxx. Hugely energetic live band : Next Stage (with 2 drummers) ua-cam.com/video/1o2srnF-QfM/v-deo.html ; and Juicy Beats (2 guitarists) ua-cam.com/video/xVA28Qjp_Jo/v-deo.html (Hana plays both guitar and drums)
Dollsbox, not "Dollbox". It's a collaboration between Fuki and Gacharic Spin. Hana the drummer also growls. And speaking of female growls - "Kassogtha - The Call (Official Video)" They're a Swiss Melodic Death Metal band I first encountered (and fell in love with) on Sunday, when they opened a streaming Metal festival.
Damn, your video choices are to good. If you decide to do another Doll$boxx video i would suggest "Karakuri Town" because it´s crazy and because 500 other youtubers have already reacted to "Take my chance" the most commonly requested one.
Gacharic Spin and FUKI are both legendary. This side project is just amazing and they have so much fun doing it. I hope for more music from them, one album and one ep is not enough! :) Great reaction as always.
After becoming a fan of several Japanese bands this year, this group was on my list to check out, but hadn't until this video. Good stuff. I will have to check out some other songs.
This is not only a side-project for Fuki - that's a side project for Gacharic Spin too! You will LOVE Gacharic Spin on stage, they're amongst the best, the most energetic, and funny too. The band just celebrated their 10 years - the line-up has change a lot but the bassist, guitarist and drummer (playing mostly guitar nowadays) are still the same ua-cam.com/video/xVA28Qjp_Jo/v-deo.html
I came up with a clip from Shonen Knife. They formed in 1981 after Naoko (guitar) heard a Ramones song on the radio. She formed a band with her sister Atsuko (drums) and a friend, but they now have Risa on bass. They have been acknowledged as an influence by bands that include Sonic Youth, and opened for Nirvana on the Nevermind Tour, but they are still an underground band. They released their 21st album last year, Sweet Candy Power. When it comes to Japanese all female rock bands and kawaii rock, these ladies started it. ua-cam.com/video/8FiXXxf6AHo/v-deo.html
Doll$boxx only has 2 albums but man oh man do they absolutely deliver! Other songs by them I'd recommend are Merrily High Go Round, Take My Chance and Dragonet
DOLL$BOXX reaction is quite unexpected but I'm happy you did it, I really like this band so it was a nice surprise to see! :D And now for suggestions, I think you will enjoy Brutus 'War' (Live at Rain City) and 'Sugar Dragon' (live from Handelsbeurs version)!
Fuki needs a few dozen outlets. Doll$boxx was just a onetime shot, an album and a couple of shows. Btw all that cool create stuff you love comes from the blue haired drummer who wrote all but one of doll$boxx songs and nearly all of gacharic spin which is doll$boxx minus fuki with Hana the drummer singing lead. So yes Hana is great...
Yes she is. She was in Bass Magazine cover as featured bassist and I recall reading some big Japanese music magazine listing TOP 100 Japanese musicians, 5 in given instrument and Koga was placed in bass section - being only female in that top 100.
I suggested Galneryus - Destiny some time ago... here's a collab between Fuki here and Syu, the guitarist of Galneryus. Definitely worth checking out!! Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/958z1pk9_Ns/v-deo.html - Yngwie who?
This their side project Fuki from Unlucky Morpheous and the rest of the band is the musicians from Gacharic Spin (another awesome Japanese all-girl band)
You should check out X Japan at some point. They made metal much more mainstream in Japan for a while, and I think are regarded as the biggest metal band Japan has ever had. Good start on them is probably 'Kurenai' - I'd go for the live version ('Last Live 1997' - their last show before their reunion)
Hana (blue-haired drummer) is the lead singer for Gacharic Spin. Fuki is probably the most prolific artist in Japanese rock/metal, with several bands, lots of side projects, and all high quality. Yes, one guitar with overlays. Koga (bassist) is, IMO one of the best, along with Misa from Band-Maid, Ryu from Mary's Blood and Miho from Lovebites. Heck, they're all virtuosos. One of the most underrated bands in the world.
Lists are partly useless, but ... bass magazine did japan 50 top rock bassists, Kiyoshi & Koga were the only women, at 15&16th. Both slap specialists. There are some fusion & mathrock (Japanese) women bassists that blow mind, and girls from pop/rock bands Scandal & Silent Siren are worthy, and a dozen metal women, and a couple of good yourubers (juna serita for real funk pro youtuber, fami for slap n speed (UA-cam only?))
For more Doll$Boxx: "Take My Chance" ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html For Fuki and Jill (violinist with Unlucky Morpheus): "Juliet" ua-cam.com/video/8PsEoS-3514/v-deo.html For Fuki with Syu (Lead Guitar of Galneryus--another band worth checking out): "Reason" ua-cam.com/video/958z1pk9_Ns/v-deo.html For Gacharic Spin: Here is something very early, featuring their original vocalist/keyboardist Ashitomi Takae, who left the band in 2012 and died in 2015. They were all just out of high school, so the music is very poppy but you can already see their insane level of talent: ua-cam.com/video/vfzIt20_xXg/v-deo.html
Tomo-ZO is a great guitarist. You can search her name on UA-cam and find videos that show her ripping off some solos, mostly with the other band Gacharic Spin. Great and informative review.
another thoughtful breakdown. Forgive me if you've already down them (on a cursory scan I didn't see them) but have your tried WAGAKKI BAND? I'd list them as part of my unHoly Trinity of Japanese bands, with Band-Maid and Sigh. WAGAKKI BAND fuse Rock nRoll with traditional Jpaanese Folk music and instrumentations to a truly unique and beautiful sound. Live I'd recommend either "Wagakki Band - 焔 (Homura) + 暁ノ糸 (Akatsuki no Ito) / 1st JAPAN Tour 2015 Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo" or maybe "Wagakki Band - 知恵の果実 (Chie no kajitsu)+ 什麼生説破(Somosan seppa) / HALL TOUR 2017 四季ノ彩-Shiki no Irodori-", or for a quick easy MV sample, just their MV for "Ignite". Regardless, keep up the fantastic and educational reactions. Cheers from Mexico!
@@ChaseCarneson very awesome! I always enjoy how you break down the songrwiting, instrumental play and techniques, so very curious to see your take on some very non traditional (by western standards) instrumentation like the koto. and Suzuhana Yuko is behind only Saiki and Kaho Shimada on my list of Japanese singers. Excelsior, and have a damn good day, sir!
Highly recommended is this live version of Loud Twin Stars by Doll$Boxx. It has lyrics translation, which shows how Fuki is not only a skilled singer but a great songwriter too. ua-cam.com/video/Tl4QNXnE-XU/v-deo.html
Doll$boxx is an interesting case. It is mostly made up of members of a rock/electronic/pop group called Gacharic Spin. After their singer left, FUKI filled in for a bit, and they got along so well that they made Doll$boxx as a side project to explore some heavier music than Gacharic Spin usually plays. Interestingly, Gacharic Spin ended up using the drummer and keyboardist as primary vocalists for quite a while, hence the additional vocals in this track. Other good info: -the guitar player is know for the ridiculous number of custom guitar effects she uses, so (especially in Gacharic Spin's music) it can often be hard to pick apart what is guitar and what is keyboard in the mix. -The bassist, KOGA, is phenomenal and highly regarded in the Japanese music scene. Look up footage of the Gacharic Spin song "Lock On" for a good example of what she can bring to a song. There is some bonkers live footage out there, unfortunately of iffy visual quality, but their concerts are wild. A highlight was when the keyboardist and back-up dancer each wore keyboards as backpacks and traded off solos by having the other person bend over. I'll try to post a link if I can.
Found links (even in 360p, I promise you won't regret it. Their concerts are like a giant party) ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Y5Kpfr8fvVE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/xVA28Qjp_Jo/v-deo.html
Fuki is one of the hardest working people you'll come across, in 13 years she has had over 90 releases mostly full albums. Unlucky Morpheus is/was a side project as all the members were in other bands up until about 2 years ago, now it's only 2 members. Doll$boxx came about due to Garhic Spin some years ago having problems with their singer not turning up to practices or gigs. Then when Garhic Spin were on 1 tour she didn't show at all and the other band member got fed up with it so much, they went on Japanese TV and said that if anyone knows their song turn up, and they can go on stage with them. Well Fuki contacted them and ended up doing most of the tour with Garhic Spin. They both enjoyed it so much they decided to do Doll$boxx. The drummer is the singer for Garhic Spin now, mind you last year Hana stepped out from behind the drums and now plays rhythm guitar. If you want something that's a bit different by Fuki, just to show a bit more of her range try "Fuki Kamisama wa Kitto -pv - M ON! full version tv". It's a beautiful song and video beautiful, from her solo album. For more Doll$boxx try "Loud Twin Stars" (Live) or "Gacharic Spin drum solo~ブラックサバイバル"
Side projects are a two-edged sword - an outlet for things left undone but can become a distraction/worm-hole of what-ifs! (Just my experience).... The location of the video reminds me of a bar I was in the early 90's! Wish THEY had been there!!!!... to be continued!!!! ..... :D
Lovely review, I am a big fan of the band! I highly recommend 'Sekaiwa Kitto Aiwo Shitterunda', it has a killer riff and the drummer gets to show her talent as well! Also in the same vein, if you like, try Babymetal -BMC (live), because it shows just another awesome flavour of Babymetal.
Yay, thanks for doing some Doll$Boxx, Chase - glad you enjoyed it! Fuki aside, the others are members of Gacharic Spin, who I absolutely love. Their music isn't 100% my kind of thing all the time, but they are completely bonkers and are such amazing musicians I could listen to them all day. If you want to see Doll$Boxx live, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/GiWSW8YkBfs/v-deo.html FYI, in Gacharic Spin, Hana (the drummer here) has now stepped up front as vocalist and also plays as second guitarist. If you fancy checking out some Gachapin try Gold Dash (from their latest album): ua-cam.com/video/l8hE7XlRkUA/v-deo.html Oh, and there's this. Bonkers. Just don't ask about Oreo's costume LOL! ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html
Take My Chance. FIRE 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 Chase , You've become appointment viewing. I'll be joining your paetron when I get home. Is your Babymetal video for Road of Resistence on your paetron?
Your review was a delight - you appreciated the same things I do (the complex, tasty, virtuously played and arranged work of art they create)!!! For a lot of people that's too much to take in, they prefer a more straight forward approach to the songs they enjoy. BTW, you won't find a bad/stupid song in their 10 year catalogue, and that's quite the feat in my eyes. Thing you couldn't know: It' s not Fuki who wrote the melodies - it's all done by Gacharic Spin. They write tailor-made for their respective vocalists. Fuki writes the lyrics for Doll$boxx. Cheers
This was definitely one of my favourite bands of the early 2010s. Another band that is coming out of Japan that I think you'd really like is Sokoninaru. Their song Tenohira De Odoru is a must-listen for anyone into rock and/or metal who is getting into stuff coming out of Japan.
Doll$boxx and Gacharic Spin (aka everyone else except the main vocalist) have some of the most interesting compositions in rock songs that I've ever heard. There's so much going on in every song that it's impossible to get bored of.
I just looked and it's on Spotify Japan. Licensing is a bit tricky so there are quite a few albums/songs that you'll only find on their Japanese service.
Yeah, licensing issues tend to prevent a lot of JP music from being on Spotify for the US. Always frustrating when I'm trying to build my 'foreign music' playlists.
Doll's Apartment is region locked on Spotify but the mini-album, high $pec, isn't. Both releases are on UA-cam (without region locks as far as I can tell).
Kanami write and plays for other artists too, it's good because not only they get to do what is considered out of the band norm, they also widen their skill sets and evolving,
Wow Doll$Boxx, nice choice. Obvious recommendation would be "Take my chance" , if you would like to check out their stuff from newer album, I would suggest "Shout Down" or "Dragonet". From the comments you probably already figured out that Doll$Boxx is Fuki + the band Gacharic Spin and I think that Gacharic Spin also could be and interesting listen for you :)
Thumbs up for Chase. As to the song... I had the weirdest reaction to this. It was like it triggered my fight or flight response, and I found myself with my teeth bared much of the way through this song. I liked the drummers' voice slightly better. Bearing in mind it's not something I've immersed myself into, there's something sonically about a lot of the Japanese female vocals I've heard which sets my teeth just slightly on edge. This reminds me of themes from anime shows my kids watched over the years. It's just... it's hard to describe... it's like the sound has been shoved through an upside down triangle. There is a metric ton of production / engineering / effect work going on in this. Everything on the bottom end of this mix seems gated (is that the correct term?), to the point the kick drum sounds almost like a tom some of the time. The bass is absolutely there, and well played, but sounds so thin to me. I feel like this song would hit VERY different live or with a different mix. Probably my personal preferences just rearing their ugly head.
The other female Japanese vocalist that is usually mentioned alongside Fuki is Kuroneko of Onmyo-za. Onmyo-za is a very prolific band that people should check out.
Interestingly enough unlucky morpheus was also a side project back when fuki had light bringer as her main band. I was not that high on light bringer though anything with fuki can’t be bad. They did have one song that I added to my playlist called “just kidding.”
Yeah, I don't know what's in the vending machines over there in Japan that's making their rock and metal so damn great, but I do know that I like it. I like it a lot.
Thank you for doing these reactions, I like them a lot. My favorite song from them is Take My Chance, my guess is it's not the most intricate song, but I love the vocals. :-) If you want some guys from Japan, can I recommend some older guys ?: Ningen Isu, I would say the song: Namahage.
Didn't know them, thanks for the introduction :-) Please add two more all-female bands to your list (both not from Japan for once): Burning Witches (Switzerland) - Hexenhammer The Warning (Mexico) - Dust To Dust
I love Corey Taylor, lead singer for Slipknot. He has an amazing voice and is very versatile, but in Slipknot he is constrained by the music they do. So he also has Stone Sour as a side project where he can explore other avenues vocally. I saw Babymetal open for Stone Sour and Korn a few years ago, gosh I hope we get back to live performances in the next year. Lovebites is another all female band that deserves a listen. And Shonen Knife, an all female punk group that started the kawaii rock thing back in 83, and they're still rocking it
I coulda sworn I've heard this as an anime intro or outro at some point. It's uncannily similar to something like that. Which is not a bad thing, just for the record.
Whole album concept is to play from start to finish old school Should react to Take my Chance. It is a hoot and shows off all the members. Plus it takes a poke at the idol culture
Hell to the yes! Another great one! The Japanese music scene is expansive and full of talent (second largest music industry i the world after the USA). #reaction Scandal - This is another all female band from Japan, but pop-rock this time as a change of pace. These ladies have been around for a while now and are super big in Japan and have had their songs featured in anime. Here is their latest single: A.M.D.K.J. ua-cam.com/video/3pDpYur3Nwc/v-deo.html
Superb analysis and reaction, you have a really good ear for picking out the details and DOLL$BOXX has loads of details! If you want to try some more DOLL$BOXX I've got a few suggestions: Take My Chance - this ones a bit more aggressive but absolutely anthemic, I think you would appreciate the vocal counterpoint Fuki and the drummer develop in the chorus' especially, and the bass lines are absolute groove Omacha no Heitai - this ones a seemingly quite simple and straight forward pop rock song, but there's lots of details you'd appreciate, and it has an absolutely fire guitar solo, link is here as title is in Japanese: ua-cam.com/video/ZWJk5oEULf8/v-deo.html Sekaiwa Kitto Aiwo Shitterunda - high tempo showing off what they can do, guitar solo on this one is whacked out I'm also going to suggest this awesome video which is actually from a Gacharic Spin concert (the instrumentalists in the DOLL$BOXX) but Fuki appears to perform guest vocals for this track so it's effectively DOLL$BOXX live: ua-cam.com/video/5u5BZnTe6zQ/v-deo.html The track is called 'Black Survival' and it includes a drum solo intro. Looking forwards to more of your thoughtful reactions if any of these catch your attention!
The drummer also plays guitar and some weird flute keyboard thing, sings obviously and plays other instruments in the bands other band Gacharic Spin. Which is a great band. They have been using a different drummer lately because the drummer for this band has been doing other things, like playing guitar or main vocals. They’re a unique interesting group. Highly suggest checking them out.
Here’s her (Hana) playing, an electric flute? And the keyboardist is doing vocals. Umm it’s live it’s great. I’ve watched this whole concert and it starts with Hana and the other drummer playing drums together, on two different sets of course. But yea, Gacharic Spin is something else. You never know what you’ll get from them, other than high level talent. Oh and they can all sing. ua-cam.com/video/zc6ZEttA-YY/v-deo.html
Try react to Wagakki band - senbonzakura (ua-cam.com/video/K_xTet06SUo/v-deo.html), they are a japanese folk/rock band with a female fronted band. Pay attention to the instruments that they use and enjoy
I'm a bit late seeing this, and I know you've already reviewed "Take My Chance". I can't remember if I mentioned it on the other video, but there is a video for every song on this album (except for the final track), and viewed in the correct sequence they tell a complete story about an all-female band and the stages they go through. Overall, it's a commentary on the way girls and women are exploited in the entertainment business. This particular track, in my best interpretation, represents the stage where the band has had some success, the lead singer's ego starts showing, and she starts to feel (or is encouraged to feel by the corporate managers) that she is the most important member of the band, and is threatening to leave the band and go solo (or, alternatively, feels she should get more credit/money). This is contrasted by the way the music includes moments where each individual member gets to shine, and shows, without words, that every single member of the band is important to their success, and it's not just the lead singer. I especially like the imagery of each member holding up a "King" card, and then the singer holding up a card with her own face on it and a dollar sign.
Two suggestions for more JP bands: JAM Project - a group of singers who focus primarily on anime/game/tokusatsu theme songs. The obvious recommendation here would probably be 'Hero', the opening theme from One Punch Man. There's a live performance of the song on UA-cam. Maximum the Hormone - I'm not quite sure how to describe them. Punk/metalcore/funk? They're a lot of fun to listen to though, in the 'I'm not sure what I'm listening to but I like it sort of way'. Yoshu Fukushuu I think might be a good starter song for them.
Light bringer was Fuji’s’ band, unlucky Morpheus was her side project and doll$boxx was a one off that was brought back years late due to popular demand and the the fact that lightbringer bit the dust...
Another great hit! The only part that throws me off in these music videos is that the singer looks "relaxed" even when belting it out in the recording. It doesn't seem to match somehow. If you like this style, I suggest BabyDollSymphony / Number of the Beast worth a look. This is a well recorded live performance in a more typical Japanese venue (low ceiling, cramped, crowded underground) and a very enthusiastic crowd. ua-cam.com/video/aeLLuLBLTos/v-deo.html
@@ChaseCarneson well if you insist: frederic "oddloop" Link: ua-cam.com/video/PCp2iXA1uLE/v-deo.html It has lyrics 😉 from JA to EN And I get a happy feeling to it 😆
Actually Fuji’s main band was light bringer and unlucky morpheus was also a side project. It was just a bunch of friends who were all in different bands and happened to be great musicians that just jammed together. After light bringer went dark Fuki put a lot more time and effort into unlucky morpheus. Btw I highly recommend you take a look at cadaver/revadac. It’s an amazing song which does something I don’t thing anyone else has ever done, at least not on this scale. You can find a live version as well as the original and a version which has notes sliding by in various directions.... ps...the blue haired drummer is Hana and she all but one of songs on this album though fuki probably had input. Oddly enough fuki wrote to all of the songs but one. Not sure who’s responsible for the content of the video though if it’s good I always suspect Hana. Besides all the great music in this video there also loads of symbolism base on colors, card suits and dollar signs...

Gacharic Spin 2010 - this is (I believe) their first video (about 4 minutes) with a singer (Armmy) that left in 2012 due to health issues (she later passed away in 2015) - ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html
Gacharic Spin 2013 - this is a live performance (2:17:45) at 1:08:00 there is a drum solo by Hana, the blue haired drummer - ua-cam.com/video/mLnA2GSKsZU/v-deo.html
Gacheric Spin 2014 - My own Cinderella - ua-cam.com/video/G_t2CEc9Qjk/v-deo.html
Great reaction. So glad you enjoyed this. Fuki is my favorite vocalist, bar none, so I'm always happy to see her projects get some love. :-)
If you want to continue the Doll$boxx (pronounced "Dollsbox") journey, you could watch all of the videos in order. They made a video for all 9 main songs on their debut album, 'Dolls Apartment' (released in 2012). In order, they are:
1. Loud Twin Stars
2. Merriy High Go Round
3. Take My Chance
4. Monopoly
5. ロールプレイング・ライフ
6. Fragrance
7. Karakuri Town
8. おもちゃの兵隊
I've ordered their album Dolls Apartment purely on the basis of the song Take My Chance, they're phenomenal musicians.
That whole album kicks azz. Fragrance really caught me off guard, but what a beautiful song
Thanks for the reaction. Again something I didn't know and will add to my playlist 😊
This makes me happy.
Also "BAND-MAID ALERT", new upload on Band Maid official channel of their instrumental, "Onset", live.
With you on 'Loud Twin Stars' perfect song for Chase.
I love Take My Chance, but I think I like Monopoly a bit more. Loud Twin Stars also premo
On newer Live Videos Hana, the drummer changed to the rhythm guitar and does the main vocal, so they got another very talented drummer, os course.
Ohhh, you're in for a trip. Dollbox has really creative stuff going on.
Dollbox and band maid are my go tos.
another great reaction. check out Take My Chance by Doll$Boxx it was the first I heard of them and blew me away. was so much fun to watch and listen to. Discovering music from Japan over the past few years has been an incredible journey, there is just so much talent. cheers
You will never can step out the world of japanese music :P This group got only 2 albums but the "original band" Gacharin Spin got more, you have to check them too :D
yes they are great delicious live absolutly wonderful made me cry at the end (the bass player talking about the other members ) and i dont speak japanesse soooo good
Still holding out hope that one day Chase comes back to Doll$boxx and continues his journey down their impressive catalog of tunes
I really appreciate your diving into every aspect of the music. I adore Fuki's style and voice, so it's sometimes easy for me to overfocus on her. Your breakdown greatly helps me appreciate everything going on in a song.
Fuki also has her own solo thing as Fuki Commune and Fuki. And also used to be in a band called Light Bringer. It's all great stuff to check out.🙂👍
Also is nice you did this one others nearly always do Take my Chance which is great but variety is best to me.
I miss Light Bringer :( was a great band. But Fuki looks like another person when she is with Unlucky Morpheus, you can see she enjoy so much, more than in the shows with LB
@@Leo_Carrilo A few of her solo songs sound quite Light Bringer. Helps me not miss them quite so much.
Stuart Hanson , that’s partly the Mao factor, they started out in Lightbringer together, still collaborate...
Funny enough Doll$boxx is also a side project for the rest of the band. They make up the fantastic band Gacharic Spin. You should definitely check out their work as well. They recently released a new song/video Gold Dash
Gacharic Spin also is a really great live band so would mor recommend on their live stuff than studio (but don't misunderstand studio is still great)
Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel about them. ;)
Amazing reaction and analysis as always. Enjoyed it very much.
Haha couldn't help myself.
Take my Chance is the next one you should listen to: ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html
And, of course check out Gacharic Spin as well, the main band of the other four girls in Doll$boxx.
That insane hysterical chaos in that second link is the vid that turned me into fanboy 🤘😉💃🎸😎
Fuki also was in band Light Bringer and I love her from this band, you must react song "Ark" or "Resistance".
Your falling deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of Jrock Jmetal and its a good thing!
And now for suggestions, I think you will enjoy Brutus 'War' (Live at Rain City) and 'Sugar Dragon' (live from Handelsbeurs version)!
Koga is legit one of the best bassists I've ever heard, she's incredible.
Yes she is. She was in Bass Magazine cover as featured bassist and I recall reading some big Japanese music magazine listing TOP 100 Japanese musicians, 5 in given instrument and Koga was placed in bass section - being only female in that top 100.
Hana has more talent than any one person should possess!
Influenced everything. Even gene shimmons says so...
ua-cam.com/video/4-zXzhfP2YM/v-deo.html
The only thing bigger than X Japan was their hair!
Yessss !!! Someone recommended this, I love you man 😘
Amazing as always! You're only missing Light Bringer to get the Fuki's trifecta. I recommend the song "Resistance".
If you react to Doll$Box you need hear this one "Resistance - light bringer" Same vocal diferent band
Agree! 👍🏻
If you're going to be exploring Doll$Boxx, then you should check out "Take My Chance" which is one of my favorite tracks from them.
@@timgove5337 Misaki Fujiwara from Sokoninaru is mind blowing. Rina Hoshino from Elfriede is amazing when playing jazz fusion.
For more Doll$Boxx: "Take My Chance" ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html
For Fuki and Jill (violinist with Unlucky Morpheus): "Juliet" ua-cam.com/video/8PsEoS-3514/v-deo.html
For Fuki with Syu (Lead Guitar of Galneryus--another band worth checking out): "Reason" ua-cam.com/video/958z1pk9_Ns/v-deo.html
For Gacharic Spin: Here is something very early, featuring their original vocalist/keyboardist Ashitomi Takae, who left the band in 2012 and died in 2015.
They're coming up soon. Got them in the plan.
Chase Carneson Awesome.
Highly recommended is this live version of Loud Twin Stars by Doll$Boxx. It has lyrics translation, which shows how Fuki is not only a skilled singer but a great songwriter too.
ua-cam.com/video/Tl4QNXnE-XU/v-deo.html
The guitarist Tomo-Zo is probably one of the best female guitarists in Japan right now. She doesn't stand out as much since they don't do solos often.
Other good info:
-the guitar player is know for the ridiculous number of custom guitar effects she uses, so (especially in Gacharic Spin's music) it can often be hard to pick apart what is guitar and what is keyboard in the mix.
Their concerts are like a giant party)

Wish THEY had been there!!!!... to be continued!!!! ..... :D
Fuki is Fuki'ng amazing in absolutely every project I see her in from Lightbringer to Unlucky Morpheus to Doll$Boxx to Fuki Commune.
FUKI! This is one of her many projects, with Gacharic Spin this time, also check out Fuki's main band Unlucky Morpheus - Knight of Swords
If you want to see Doll$Boxx live, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/GiWSW8YkBfs/v-deo.html
FYI, in Gacharic Spin, Hana (the drummer here) has now stepped up front as vocalist and also plays as second guitarist. If you fancy checking out some Gachapin try Gold Dash (from their latest album): ua-cam.com/video/l8hE7XlRkUA/v-deo.html
Oh, and there's this. Bonkers. Just don't ask about Oreo's costume LOL! ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html
If Fuki didn't have side projects, I honestly believe she would explode.
Take My Chance. FIRE 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Chase , You've become appointment viewing. I'll be joining your paetron when I get home. Is your Babymetal video for Road of Resistence on your paetron?
Thank you!!! No it isn't. Been throwing myself filling into the main channel but will make a plan to upload it somewhere and share to patreon.
all of them actually can sing so well ^^
Your review was a delight - you appreciated the same things I do (the complex, tasty, virtuously played and arranged work of art they create)!!!
Cheers
Would love to hear your reaction to Wagakki Band.
Coming soon.
Another great reaction! I’m loving your approach on these.
With Dollsboxx, you’ve got to check out their “Dragonet” their best track imo.
Thank you for supporting and glad you're enjoying them.
This was definitely one of my favourite bands of the early 2010s. Another band that is coming out of Japan that I think you'd really like is Sokoninaru. Their song Tenohira De Odoru is a must-listen for anyone into rock and/or metal who is getting into stuff coming out of Japan.
yay! Fuki again!
Doll$boxx and Gacharic Spin (aka everyone else except the main vocalist) have some of the most interesting compositions in rock songs that I've ever heard. There's so much going on in every song that it's impossible to get bored of.
So sad this one isn't on Spotify afaik, absolute banger I really love them
That's a real shame.
My favorite song of theirs is Shout Down, it also has a great guitar solo.
Good morning, Chase!
Feeling like I need some old school songs in the mix. How about Judas Priest - Love Bites?
Not bad!!!!!!
I wanna move to Japan!
I’d like to visit Japan. If I lived there I would be broke. I would be so broke.
@@kevinhiggins7838 I'd have to get Japan to visit me,cos I have too many tattoos. Come to think of it,i'd still be broke though.
Soo... where exactly is the anime, that THIS is clearly the opening to?
Yeah, I don't know what's in the vending machines over there in Japan that's making their rock and metal so damn great, but I do know that I like it. I like it a lot.
Thank you for doing these reactions, I like them a lot.
My favorite song from them is Take My Chance, my guess is it's not the most intricate song, but I love the vocals. :-)
If you want some guys from Japan, can I recommend some older guys ?: Ningen Isu, I would say the song: Namahage.
I've got them in the plan already I think. I'll double check.
@@ChaseCarneson My guess is your list is long and growing :-)
Didn't know them, thanks for the introduction :-)
Please add two more all-female bands to your list (both not from Japan for once):
Burning Witches (Switzerland) - Hexenhammer
The Warning (Mexico) - Dust To Dust
Hana is one of my favorite artist with her other projects. Shes also an incredible drummer.
And Shonen Knife, an all female punk group that started the kawaii rock thing back in 83, and they're still rocking it
He’s a Lovebites fan, has reviewed a few
I coulda sworn I've heard this as an anime intro or outro at some point. It's uncannily similar to something like that. Which is not a bad thing, just for the record.
They have many songs that are worth to check, this is not even close to their best, althogh its very cool
I'd love to see you react to Wagakki Band at some point.
Side projects. Nightwish members do it all the time. I think their core product is strong enough.
#reaction
Scandal - This is another all female band from Japan, but pop-rock this time as a change of pace. These ladies have been around for a while now and are super big in Japan and have had their songs featured in anime. Here is their latest single:
A.M.D.K.J.
ua-cam.com/video/3pDpYur3Nwc/v-deo.html
Superb analysis and reaction, you have a really good ear for picking out the details and DOLL$BOXX has loads of details!
If you want to try some more DOLL$BOXX I've got a few suggestions:
Take My Chance - this ones a bit more aggressive but absolutely anthemic, I think you would appreciate the vocal counterpoint Fuki and the drummer develop in the chorus' especially, and the bass lines are absolute groove
Omacha no Heitai - this ones a seemingly quite simple and straight forward pop rock song, but there's lots of details you'd appreciate, and it has an absolutely fire guitar solo, link is here as title is in Japanese: ua-cam.com/video/ZWJk5oEULf8/v-deo.html
Sekaiwa Kitto Aiwo Shitterunda - high tempo showing off what they can do, guitar solo on this one is whacked out
I'm also going to suggest this awesome video which is actually from a Gacharic Spin concert (the instrumentalists in the DOLL$BOXX) but Fuki appears to perform guest vocals for this track so it's effectively DOLL$BOXX live: ua-cam.com/video/5u5BZnTe6zQ/v-deo.html The track is called 'Black Survival' and it includes a drum solo intro.
Looking forwards to more of your thoughtful reactions if any of these catch your attention!
Ha! That was a fun one! ✌️
Now do Gacharic Spin, which is pretty much this same band but withouth Fuki on vocals.
Fuki also fronted Lightbringer; they were awesome, too. My fav is Noah
Reminds me of Dance Gavin Dance
i think the drummer might give Kai from Nightwish a run for his money. because if she sounds like this now, WOW!
Two suggestions for more JP bands:
JAM Project - a group of singers who focus primarily on anime/game/tokusatsu theme songs.
The girl on the Keys is Beautiful.

Well... If we are on a Japanese loop here I got more recommendations 😂😂 if interested offcourse 😆
Always interested. The list is long but no reason we can't add to it.
@@ChaseCarneson well if you insist: frederic "oddloop"

It has lyrics 😉 from JA to EN
And I get a happy feeling to it 😆
F Chopper KOGA and Hana are phenomenal (not to detract from the other members)
Fuki = Goddess
Koga is the Hotness
