Doll$boxx is more of a project band of the musicians of Gacharic Spin (in the lineup as it was back then) with singer Fuki after she had helped them out live on some gigs after their original lead-singer Armmy had to leave because of health reasons (she actually passed away not too long afterwards). They are not exactly an "active band" so to say.
Check out "Shout Down" by them as well! Another awesome track and video!
There is a storyline throughout the album that this is part of. This video right here kind of takes an ironic view of the whole "Idol"-genre treadmill a lot of young female musicians have to go through to gain a following and actually have some success in japan where they are marketed as cutesy, pure girls in cute outfits and to crowds like this and management kind of owns their live in the meantime. It basically shows them doing it and kicking everyone in the face with how good they are.
Every one of these ladies is an outstanding musician on her own and together you get this wonderfully chaotic, supercharged result :)
Fuki has also been known to pop up at a Gacharic Spin concert. Check out Gacharic Spin drum solo. Hana does a somewhat unique drum solo then Fuki pops in for guest vocals on a song 🤘😊🤘

The setting where they're dressed as maids is supposed to be in a maid Cafe and if I'm not mistaken I believe this video came out before Band-Maid. Unfortunately Doll$Boxx is not currently active. They are focusing on their main projects 🤘😊🤘

Regarding the setting in the MV, yes this song came out a few months before BAND-MAID officially formed, but this video's setting is not really a maid cafe but something called "chika idol" or "underground idol" scene. Chika Idols are the Japanese pop and rock equivalent to the early underground "illegal" raves of the 1990s. This scene is mostly girl groups, but there are some boy groups too. The Chika Idol groups are usually professional music groups with professional management and everything, but they have chosen to stay in the underground clubs rather than commercial touring venues. There is some controversy over the Chika Idol scene and this song, at least visually, addresses some of the stigma.

I read somewhere, this video is the one that spark the idea on Miku Kobato to forming BAND-MAID... Watch the year it's released... 2013... the year BAND-MAID formed, a year later Thrill video is released... Don't know if it's true or not.
And I love the video for this song... It's poke a fun to pop Idol worshipper... The crowd came to see an Idol group (usually cute teenager singing cheerfull love pop song), so they not enthusiastic when the girls enter and get shocked by the music... But eventually ended on liking them and their music.
Doll$Boxx is another one of my favorite Japanese bands. The fusion of Fuki with Gacharic Spin is so good. This particular video is basically their version of BabyMetal's Gimme Chocolate. By that I mean it immediately grabs you by the throat, slaps you in the face, and makes you ask WTF? As a guy, I would be remiss not to mention that their fantastic bass player, F Chopper Koga, was also a swimsuit model earlier in her career. In all seriousness though, knowing that gives me an even greater appreciation for the skill she has developed as a musician.
Doll$boxx is a side project, which came around from Fuki helping them out on a tour. Yes they still do stuff together, there is a event they started doing called Doll$fest, last year all 3 bands play at it D$B, UM and GS, now that would have been a hell of a show to go to.

Exactly! Love listening to the bass sounds and one think I really like about japanese bands is how they get their basslines more prominent in their music compared to most of western bands.

FUKI!!! She makes everything better. I'm a huge fan of Gacharic Spin and Doll$Boxx shows their heavier side. Both albums rock very hard. This is a great video as it is a poke at the 'Idol' side of music in Japan. This video is about years old so this a much younger Fuki. Hana's growls are all in English even though it's hard to tell
Other Doll$Boxx songs you should try are Twin Stars, Dragonet and Shout Down. They've made 15 videos to cover all the songs they have recorded on the Album and the EP.

Great job guys and you can't go wrong with either Gacharic Spin or Fuki. There is a lot of skill that these ladies use in composing their songs. I read somewhere that Hana (the drummer - founder along with F Chopper (bass) picked the name to be unpronounceable. As with a lot of the Japanese female rock band (Scandal is another one), the two girls started out in high school as friends then later created this band and recruited the others.

Yeah, great band to check out, but "Astral Dogma" is not the best place to start. Great song, but I think that's a song for more seasoned listeners. I'd suggest Kyusei Αργυροσ to start as that's more indicative of their more recent sound (with Shiren) or Hades, The Bloody Rage for some thing that's more their more traditional sound with Takaha composing. Either way, great Goth-metal band.
@@Karu_19_ I love the new album (especially "Eclipsed", "Zetsu" and "Hell in Glass") but "Shito Kanadeshi Hametuno Tategoto" is still my favorite song. After it it's really hard to choose a second or third, I really love "Wahrheit", "Flamma Idola", "Shirogane Bara Kitan", "Infection", "Shadow Corps" (Shadow Corps[e] is an amazing album). "Geki" and "Sou Sou Friesian" are pretty solid too.

Whether the BandMaids copped it or not, this predates then by a suspiciously middlin 6months. Even Mike’s magic time was preceded by TomoZo’s (comedy) corner, where she also cast spells on the audience. No biggie, love the maids, it’s not the same, but don’t let anybody get it backwards! Their most recent release was 2018 dvd, and they tried to get shows in the US soon after, but one was sick and another’s visa was strangely revoked , since then both respective bands have gone thru changes and had releases...

I think the same, Miku always hinted that she had an unexpected inspiration for the idea for Band-Maid and this video and the wackiness of GS are the closest.Fuki with twintails on this video and TMZ also sported twintails during GS early days.
To much going on ? I think it's perfect, I love the vocals: Fuki is like a emergency alarm in this song and then adding all the other vocals like harmonies and harsh vocals is lots of fun.
Yeah, there's a lot of detail but it doesn't sound as if it were piled into the mix. Most of it is just those five women being really good at what they do. I'm not even sure if they split the guitar into rhythm and lead?
There's a live version somewhere in this rabbit hole (must be from the 2017 live DVD) that shows exactly how much each instrumentalist brings to the song. Especially Tomo-Zo's guitar is much more prominent.
TLDR: Yep, they're great.
@@maxvahling3832 they are all experienced musicians and performers they know their instrument better than the back of their hand. And they also understand the: "play the song." they won't do what doesn't fit the song by adding to much (Japanese seem to be humble like that) at least not during the creation/recording process. Live they can add something extra.

Then after I watch this, I was clicking videos and stumble on something dope, an assemble of shredders from familiar bands, kind of like doll$box type of thing,
THIS actually predates THAT (by a good few years), but watching the juxtaposition of cute girl (Hana is an awesome drummer...) and screechy noise coming out of her face hole (...she is also an awesome vocalist), brought to mind the exploits of Spiritbox, specifically Holy Roller (that is one creepy vid)

Doll$box was a one time shot for gacharic spin to make an album with fuki.they did a couple of shows and that was it til a few years ago they got back together to do a more metal five song ep. btw they do very little manipulation with the songs except for a vocoder on a song that requires it. There is however some slight of hand going on with the beginning chorus. Fuki can sing that music with no problem and Hana can probably just barely keep up with her. Oreo and tomo are going to need substantial help and koga, well, koga is tone deaf. Apparently not a problem on the bass but not helpful for serious singing.

Ok, you guys pretend very badly not having heard it before. Really, no one ever can feel unsurprised by Hana Sano's guttural vocals and your reaction to it was bland at most. Since you cannot be so jaded as to hear ladies doing guttural and expect for it as norm because, obviously, the singers who do it are rare, so of course you already heard her before.
