"Take my chance" was the first song that I heard by Doll$Boxx and I loved it. I had just started watching Band Maid, so you'd think I wouldn't have been thrown off by the cutesy outfits, but I was absolutely not ready when that first chord slapped me in the face. And Hana (the drummer) is a beast!
Great analysis, these ladies always have fun with their music. They started around 2009 with the drummer Hana (Hana Sano - blue hair - she is also the main singer) and the bassist F Chopper Koga (Michiko Koga), guitarist Tomo-zo (Tomoko Midorikawa) and keyboards Oreo Reona and singer, Armmy, who left in 2012 due to health issues (she later passed away in 2015). Three of the girls were born in 1986 and the keyboardist in 1988. These four are exceptionally talented musicians. The guitarist and bassist are considered some of the best players in Japan. Their approach is to have fun at all times and their concerts look chaotic to say the least. From March 2020 MV - this is their new line up, drummer Hana has moved to second guitar and main vocals, they've added a new drummer, Yuri, and a new singer, Angelina (pink hair) - ua-cam.com/video/l8hE7XlRkUA/v-deo.html Gacharic Spin 2017 - live, in this one the main vocalist is the keyboardist (Oreo) - ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html Gacharic Spin 2013 - this is a live performance (2:17:45) at 1:08:00 there is a drum solo by Hana, the blue haired drummer - ua-cam.com/video/mLnA2GSKsZU/v-deo.html Gacheric Spin 2014 - My own Cinderella - ua-cam.com/video/G_t2CEc9Qjk/v-deo.html
@@vectorifix3218 Yeah I know she can play more instruments (like that electric flute thingy recently), but I only mentioned the instruments I saw her play, that I wouldn't consider too gimmicky :D
This is a joy to see and hear. Very talented people who work their butts off so they can make it all seem so casual and off the cuff. Because believe me, getting the choral vocals to work like that would take HOURS of work! Much respect for these ladies!
Also the Aerophone so that Oreoreona doesn't have to bring along the keytar when she goes up front for lead vocals like in Hunting Summer with the current lineup
At Anime Matsuri last year, she said during s Q&A that she plays 12 different instruments. I can’t remember them all, but guitar, bass, drums, and keys are among them. Also, fun fact: she *learned* to play drums for the express purpose of being in Gacharic Spin. She’d never played them prior to forming the band with KOGA.
Check out Monopoly, the last 90 seconds of that song the bass line is fucking insane. I would also recommend 88Kasyo Junrei for some more awesome Japanese bass.
How the hell did I miss this reaction?!? Your face at the beginning was exactly my face when I first heard this song, lol. Love these ladies, so jammin.
She slaps that bass, Right in your face. Can't believe that rhymes haha. "Is there anything she can't do?" Well, she can't launch herself to the space, can she? 😁
For laughs, people should check out two videos featuring Koga. In the first one, she is in a Tokyo park teaching the bassist of Good Morning America, Tanashin, how to flip a bass. ua-cam.com/video/9ltWUnUQj_Q/v-deo.html The second video was just recently a few days ago. In this one, Koga is teaching a six year old how to slap bass. ua-cam.com/video/RyvKZ-C275o/v-deo.html
I recommend checking out "Yoshu Fukushu" by "Maximum the Hormone". They have a singing female drummer aswell and she is a huge influence to many female drummers in japan
The video has not started and I'm already smiling xD. I am one of those who recommended this band and this song when you reacted to other Japanese bands ... well, now I will continue watching :-D
@@ChaseCarneson yes sir!!! It sure put me in a really good mood! Also ,suggestion, you can check out another Unlucky Morpheus song, the song "Knight of Sword" is super cool too.
While not necessary to do so, the "watch order" of these videos follows the track order of the "Dolls Apartment" album 1. Loud Twin Stars 2. Merrily High Go Round 3. Take My Chance 4. monopoly 5. ロールプレイング・ライフ 6. fragrance 7. KARAKURI TOWN 8. おもちゃの兵隊 9. Doll’s Box
The live version of this song is also great. " Take My Chance live at Tokyo Dome City Hall" and I love Tomo-zo (Gt). She is also one of the most talented guitarists in Japan. Check out the instrumental song featuring her. "Gacharic Spin - Instrumental - 2018"
Not just any instrumental ua-cam.com/video/VXAB83r0lbQ/v-deo.html Although could be considered comparable band maids’ later Onset, this song “Planet Nicorin’s Rush Hour” is about TomoZo’s homeworld. She’s now free to dress like lil Bo Peep, since she revealed she’s actually a 100,000,013 yr old alien who’s been scouring the galaxy for the perfect band, not the 17yr old pirate witch she’d spent the previous 4years in disguise... Although one of her songs since then (she sings squeaky girl lead on one per album) does actually declare she wishes she Was an ageless witch 🤷♂️
I'M SO GLAD THIS IS HAPPENING! (been recommending it for a while)...but I think you would have appreciated it even more live (they are SO GOOD LIVE!) I would say her vocals are way stronger live, and that is probably the greatest difference (but it's a big difference)
Loud Twin Stars was the first song I ever heard from Doll$boxx, and it's still my favorite one. The bass line driving that song never lets up, the chorus is a banger, and Fuki and Hana just soar throughout. That song is just straight fire!
This is by far the best they've made as far as i heard,. there is a few others close to it but dont remember the name of the songs,. but looking forward to your reaction to more of them,.
Watching this again for the 10th time in 2022 - this is my favorite reaction by you of ANY band - I have watched every single reaction video of "Take my Chance" on UA-cam, everyone is blown away by the novelty, creativity and musicality of Doll$boxx. You have captured all the little nuances that most reactors miss or ignore. You should watch their 2018 live concert they did or DOLL$BOXX / Sekaiwa Kitto Aiwo Shitterunda [Official Video] - just incredible song writing and musicianship
people have been reacting to this video for so long and i love that two things have stayed the exact same 1) not really getting the idol parody at the beginning 2) happy-stank-face for the first vocal part great video, as always, chase also, have you done a Passcode reaction yet? i feel like you're overdue for a Passcode reaction
This from the CD Dolls Apartment. It contained ten songs and Doll$Boxx made videos for nine of them. The video for Take My Chance is kind of like Doll$Boxx's version of BabyMetal's Gimme Chocolate. It instantly grabs you by the throat, slaps you in the face, and makes you ask WTF? Hana the drummer plays other instruments and has also had green hair. The bassist, F chopper Koga, has appeared in DVDs as a swimsuit model and instructional videos on how to play the bass.
They are a fun group. You helped me appreciate them a bit more for their skill as musicians and enjoyed watching you really get into them. Not my favorite Band from japan, but one that I do enjoy. Looking forward to more in the future.
Love your reaction. And love the fact these talented ladies overwhelmed you with their richness in this song. This song blew me away the first time I heard of it a few years back, and still gives me a goosebump to this date when listening
This was my first song of this band, and in the beginning I was confused as flick. XD But damn, these Ladies can jam! Check out "LOUD TWIN STARS" if you haven't already, awesome double-vocals in this one.
Definitely my favorite song of them. I can't get enough of the vocals, everything else is great too of course (lots of extra textures), but the strong voice at for example 10:11 and then add extra push at 10:14 then the harsh vocals to accentuate or whatever you want to call it. Love it. :-)
The drummer, Hana, was for many years the main singer in Gacharic Spin (where everyone except for Fuki is from). Just recently she left the drums to someone new and now she's up front with a guitar ... except when they just use two(!) full drum kits. KOGA is, in my opinion, one of the best bassists around and Tomo-Zo on guitar is amazing too. Gacharic Spin is more on the pop-side of things but good fun to watch from time to time. And Fuki .. well no need to say anything, really. She's a Queen. Regarding recommendations .. there is not that much of Doll$boxx. They did one album as a one time side project between Fuki and Gacharic Spin in 2013 (this song is from that album) and one EP in 2018. That's it.
Awesome to see you react to this. This is one of the songs that got me into Japanese music in 2013/14. The songs they put out around that time are still some of the best songs I've heard. Period. Catchy, musically interesting, and just plain good. I'd love to see you react to the British band PRESS TO MECO. They also have a sense of humour, and have some great musical talent. Their songs Honestly or Affinity are great places to start.
Yesss! Love to see them get more attention. Background: Gacharic Spin have been around since 2009. They were founded by Koga (bass) and Hana (drums) who are the constants, with the other positions going through a few changes over the years. Hana has been their lead singer and drummer most of the time, though she now shares both duties with new band members (they have expanded to six), while also playing guitar and even keys. Doll$Boxx is a partnership between GS and Fuki and it's not clear when they will do another album. You very much should check out Gacharic Spin on their own, they are wonderful.
Hiawatha Goldstein I second that they are so fun to watch they always bring a smile and then I have trouble getting the song out of my head for the rest of the day
Finally found a reaction channel that actually analyse the songs, subbed. Unbelievably great work man, keep it up! Gacharic Spin opened the world of Japanese rock to me an year a go and haven’t look back since. One interesting 8 member group with traditional western and Japanese instruments is Wagakki Band - check their song ”ikusa”!
This was another great analysis. I really enjoy your reactions because there is so much that you explain about the musicology of the pieces. Thanks, Chase. Tomo-ZO is one of the top three female guitarists that I am aware of in Japan. She, Kanami (BAND-MAID) and Saki (Mary's Blood) are the great ones of Japanese ladies shredding guitars.
Because of this I looked a bit into DOLL$BOXX and also listened to Gacharic Spin. Their live video for "Juicy Beats" is an absolut banger! Thanks, Chase
UHhh... so I haven't watched your first DOLL$BOX video... I've heard of them, never listened to them, I love BAND-MAID. That said... What the hell is this? This is amazing! Time to go down yet another Japanese rock/metal rabbit hole...
@@ChaseCarneson So amazing! This led me down a wild rabbit hole - the lead singer has a few other bands - Unlucky Morpheus being one of them. DEFINITELY check them out! Have a damn good day, my friend!
Great reaction Chase, the look on your face at the start was priceless. Lol Doll$$box is awesome and to think it’s only a side project for all of them. As been said by other’s before you should check out “Graphic spin” they get stuck in your head to.
This is for me, my thing. I’m an hour late seeing the vid, and there’s 47 comments to fact check?! Go girls! Seriously, my favorite musicians the past few years, bring the fun, the talent is presumed. Of course see Gacharic Spin too. Might as well start with the new song Gold Dash, like of Rush played a rave with a seventeen yr old rapper... but they have many generations of eclectic material, and are so creative that they form the core of multiple signed bands simultaneously... you’ll see 😉🎸💃🏻😎
So, now I’ve seen your reaction 😉... F Chopper Koga is one of only two women in a Japanese bass magazine’s ranking of rock players (they were both around 15th, the other is Kiyoshi, Marty Friedman’s band, and interesting solo project, just her & drummer). She starts a band, but only if it’s with Hana on drums. Gets the best shredder and the most DavidLeeRothish Japanese woman she could find, wants to make Electronic Rock, apparently meaning thrash drums, Flea bass, shred guitar, over prominent synth tracks. Guitarist immediately quits, so they get baby TomoZo (20, been playing on TV 4years, successful band, etc. And the rest are only 2yrs older...). Hana meanwhile has played every role in signed bands Except drummer, but the savant she is, she’s putting out drum lesson DVDs within 18months. One of her mates later played drums with a lil project called BabyMetal. More on that later. Skip ahead 2+ yrs to 2012, singer is out, support keyboardist OreoReona (from TomoZo’s old band) is in, they try out singers, Fuki, Doll$Boxx, but European tour with “no singer”, goes well enough with Hana & Oreo singing, they leave it that way, hire 15yr old cheerleaders to dance and do comedy skits and fill the frontperson space onstage, that’s the band I first learned of, hilarious, chaotic energy. Hana was signed at 13 (in ‘99), has sung lead & backing, played blues bass, guitar, sang in a 12piece ska band and been one of those dancing idols. Iconic blue hair from about 2011-2019, but always dyed all the way back... she also plays saxophone, piano/keys, probably writes the synth back tracks, most lyrics, arranges everything, coproduction, mix, lead singer, rapper, and, literally and famously, wears the pants in the band, “brother Hana” they call her. Btw, the raps and screams are most often in English, it’s just hard to tell (from raps or screams in any language). A few GS links, nothing is so called “typical”, this is tough Here’s a compilation of their first ever song, Lock On!, music Koga, sexy/domineering/sarcastic/teasing lyrics by original singer Armmy(sic), made up of chronological versions from DVDs over their first 7years ua-cam.com/video/_EVX0pK7UvY/v-deo.html My very own Cinderella, 2nd? vid with dancing sophomores, Hana can’t decide... my impression is that the lyrics are creepily possessive, but I’m not 💯 sure ua-cam.com/video/G_t2CEc9Qjk/v-deo.html Gold Dash, 2020 lineup, new drummer, Hana to 2nd guitar (def fills out heaviness, she’s ready for co-leads too, had actually filled in for TomoZo before, probably wrote the stuff?!), new singer hired last year at 17, finished HS after this vid & her first tour’s dvd. ua-cam.com/video/l8hE7XlRkUA/v-deo.html And for kicks, try Ganbanba Dancer, teen on piano, Oreo scat/squeals, completely into being out of character weird... ua-cam.com/video/dkRXyApnteU/v-deo.html God knows where they find all that talent!
Fun fact, there is a music video for each track off this particular album and they go in a certain order. This is actually the first video from the album. The framed intro/outro are going to let you know the order. You can even string them together into a one big super video, just takes a tiny bit of editing.
Really impressed once again! I remember last time I linked you some crazy sonic the hedgehog djent cause something with the keys and higher guitar melodies had me in a similar space 😂 Didn't see the drummer doing harsh vocals coming at all. I think it's pretty clear the Japanese music scene is a well oiled machine at this point, and to get noticed you really have to bring some fire, and they've done that. I want video game sounds when I enter a room dammit
"Didn't see the drummer doing harsh vocals coming at all." Such good fun and fits so well ! I'm not usually someone who is into harsh vocals for a whole song, but it works great to accent. "I want video game sounds when I enter a room dammit" I'm certain this can't actually be that difficult. :-)
PassCode is another Japanese alternative idol who has a gamey sound like the 8-bit incorporated into their music, you should check it out. Don't mind the (autotune) it's a vocoder like you'll hear from T-Pain/Steve Wonder effects.
This was really cool and different. I haven't really experienced much of this band, but I will be glad for more. I also would love to more Fuki in Unlucky Morpheus.
The drummer Sano Hana has switched to rhythm guitar and other instruments in Gacharic Spin. They brought in a new woman to do drums. So to answer the question, she can do it all.
Chase, thanks for making my day. I havent watched and commented on any of your latest videos due to some physical problems and the motivation to watch anything have been close to zero. This album "Dolls Apartement" is one of my all time favorite albums, it´s so versatile, every song is like a new chapter in a book that you can´t stop reading. Totally loved and enjoyed your reaction. My suggestion for the next Doll$boxx song would be "Karakuri Town", you have to watch it to find out why :) Be safe!
When they start off with that five part harmony, the word that came to my mind is RICH. They have a nice, full sound without sounding stupidly chaotic. Gacharic Spin is the same. A nice full sound.
Been waiting for you to get back to them. Next check out Loud Twin Stars. Fuki and Hana (the drummer) sing the entire song together. There is a live version out there 🤘😊🤘
That's a great track to see! You will see that the only girl that is doing the distorted backing vocals is Oreo Reona because that is a live track (the keyboard player). He will probably delete my comment again. He is tone deaf.
I first heard this song like 5-6 years ago and I got chills and almost felt a sort of painful-emotional joy because it felt like the first REALLY GOOD ORIGINAL MUSIC I'd heard in like 15 years. I'm fully convinced the best metal has been coming out of Japan for years now and it's all almost 99% done be females. It's just incredible well constructed very well played music. ... and I still have a massive crush on Fuki in every band she's in. Lightbringer, Unlucky Morpheus, DOLL$BOXX, Fuki Commune. She always brings 110% talent and energy to the project. She never does it half-assed she always delivers everything she has to give.
To have a complete picture of these amazing ladies, you should really try the two last MV of Gacharic Spin (Mindset and I wish I). Music wise, both of these tracks are absolutely 🔥from start to end !
As for more Doll$boxx I'd recommend "Shout Down". Love that track, too! Also check out Gacharic Spin of course which is basically the same band without the lead singer (and a few lineup additions as of late) And don't forgett Maximum the Hormone!!! Also please react to BLOODYWOOD!!! and remember to always watch their videos to the end for the important messages and funny video-shoot outtakes! "Ari Ari" for a start but they have other great songs as well :)
DOLL$BOXX is a supergroup made up of GACHARIC SPIN + Fuki. It came about almost by accident, when the original lead singer of GS left mid-tour. Fuki filled in on some live dates. They all noticed the chemistry and DOLL$BOXX was born. After the released DOLLS APARTMENT in 2012, it took five long years before they reconvened with the high $pec EP. Official videos were made for all 9 original songs on DOLLS APARTMENT and for all 5 songs on high $pec. There is a 10th song on DOLLS APARTMENT that was a quasi-self-cover of a GS song, so it was more of a bonus track, not part of the overall concept. Here they are, in order: DOLLS APARTMENT (2012) 1. Loud Twin Stars ua-cam.com/video/R2itu5KEvG0/v-deo.html 2. Merrily High Go Round ua-cam.com/video/LzCWuLu-Jq0/v-deo.html 3. Hana is not the only one in the band that can scream. Just saying. :) Check out DOLL$BOXX - Loud Twin Stars for an example. Also, you can checkout Gacharic Spin, the band they're all in, except Fuki. They have a much more poppy sound, but their live shows are super fun and absolutely insane. Try to find a live performance of Hunting Summer from their 10 year celebration, they are having so much fun there, you can't stop smiling. As for Hana, except for singing and playing the drums, she plays guitar and electric saxophone now that Gacharic Spin has another drummer.
I have been listening a lot to female japanese bands the last year and I can say, it is very hard to find bands that are not highly skilled at what they do. More please! More Doll$Boxx, Gacharic Spin, Fuki, Band Maid, Lovebites, Aldious, Nemophila, Mary‘s Blood, Destrose, Fate Gear, Zettai Club, Cyntia, Exist Trace, Trident, Bridear, Scandal, Girlfriend...
Love me some Unleash the Archers and your Doll $ Boxx reactions and glad you decided to not drift away ever again! You should react next to: Loud Twin Stars (dual guitar/keyboard solo and Fuki and Hana sing together the whole time), Dragonet - live Tokyo version (Hana has drum solo at the end) and Merrily High Go Round (overall fun song and video). Have a damn good day bud! P.s. react to more Lovebites too! Live version of Holy War, Empty Daydream and Swan Song!
Finally :) That's the song that really pushed me back into Japanese Rock/Metal. I already was a fan of Loudness and Anthem back in the 80s, but didn't really follow them after the 90s. Then Babymetal brought me back to Japan and Doll$boxx made an addicted fanboy. They and Gacharic Spin are easily two of my favourite bands right now. I'd still recommend Broken Lover live, which is my go-to recommendation for Gacharic Spin, since it really boils down the insanity that Gacharic Spin is live: ua-cam.com/video/yVTp3SESzpY/v-deo.html - especially keep an eye on Orereona (Keyboard)
Everyone is already talking about Gacharic Spin (yes, check them out), but I just want to pop in and mention that KOGA the bassist when to music school with the drummer of Kamiband (the backing band for Babymetal). They’re still friends apparently
I believe Koga, Hana and Ohmura (guitarist from Babymetal) all went to school together. They're all still close friends to this day and Ohmura and GS always play a show together on his birthday, here's one from a few years ago if you'd not seen it: ua-cam.com/video/wgTh6wZjtGE/v-deo.html (also Mikio's last ever performance I believe). Ohmura also wrote a track on GS's latest album.
For your next Doll$Boxx reaction, you should check out "Shout Down" from their second release. Five years apart and they didn't miss a beat. I'm also holding out hope for a reaction to the latest Unlucky Morpheus video for "Unending Sorceress." This new album of theirs might be the greatest album ever.
This was a passion project. DOLL$BOXX is simply Gacharic spin (circa 2013) with Fuki singing. This is a 10 song album and every song has a video. Not a bad one in the lot. After this song, my favorite is Doll's Box. It is the closer and a ballad. The video just hits me in feels like nothing else. It is basically a recap of the video making process and writing for the entire album and just a perfect cap on an amazing album. In fact, I'm going to go watch that video now.
This band is a super group with Gaccharic Spin and (at the time) Lightbringer (Fuki was their lead singer). Hana (the drummer) is the singer and drummer and occasional guitarist for Gaccharic Spin. Gaccharic Spin was formed by their bassist F Chopper Koga after her old band broke up. She said she would only form another band with Hana. If not she would quit music. Their keyboardist used to be their lead singer and keyboardist. They had another lead singer but she got sick and Fuki subbed in when they were touring (forming this relationship). Their guitarist was a last minute recruit after their former guitarist quit a week before their first big gig. Basically this whole band is fucking GREAT.

It's great to see you doing more J-rock, I feel like aside from the staples it's a genre that gets overlooked a lot. It'd be great to see a reaction to some of the older J-rock/J-pop artists that laid the foundation. Malice Mizer or Dir en Grey would get my votes. Probably Bel Air from Malice Mizer and Garden or Cage from Dir en Grey.
Awesome, so glad you decided to check some more out by them, I thought you'd forgotten about them after Monopoly! Regarding the drummer (her name is Hana) and whether there's anything she can't do, when it comes to music she's definitely a complete natural. Before she founded the band Gacharic Spin along with the bassist F-Chopper Koga (DOLL$BOXX is a Gacharic Spin side project with Fuki on lead vocals) she had sung and played guitar and bass for a number of bands. Here she is singing and playing bass in The Spade13 from April 2009, shortly before she left to found Gacharic Spin: ua-cam.com/video/M_a-ALIUvis/v-deo.html Here's a video of her playing a cover of Smells Like Teen spirit arranged for various house-hold items such as drinking straws tuned by cutting to length, toothbrushing, kettles boiling, etc - includes her showing off her slap bass and shred guitar skills: ua-cam.com/video/HbXmA7pvHbU/v-deo.html (I strongly recommend keeping an eye on that channel, it's Gacharic Spin's second channel where they've been posting weekly videos during lock-down, often of them doing ridiculous or silly covers or re-arrangements of songs in various styles). If you want some suggestions of more to react to: DOLL$BOXX - LOUD TWIN STARS (Live 2018) ua-cam.com/video/Tl4QNXnE-XU/v-deo.html Gacharic Spin - Hana drum solo + Black Survival (feat. Fuki on guest vocals) (Live 2013) ua-cam.com/video/5u5BZnTe6zQ/v-deo.html Gacharic Spin - Hunting Summer (Live 2019) ua-cam.com/video/zc6ZEttA-YY/v-deo.html - showing off their legendarily energetic, creative and accomplished live performances to the max here, also includes Hana playing the Roland Aerophone and solos from everyone to show off what they can do (including a few creative twists!) Thanks again for taking the time to check out this amazing band and giving such a thoughtful review of this great track, I knew you'd enjoy the counterpoint in the chorus!
Someone needs to let chase know that gacharic spin has new album out with two songs , “mindset” and I wish I” that are just amazing... we need his great dissection of the music....
From March 2020 MV - this is their new line up, drummer Hana has moved to second guitar and main vocals, they've added a new drummer, Yuri, and a new singer, Angelina (pink hair) - ua-cam.com/video/l8hE7XlRkUA/v-deo.html
Gacharic Spin 2017 - live, in this one the main vocalist is the keyboardist (Oreo) - ua-cam.com/video/Y1oUxt6R7Zw/v-deo.html
Gacharic Spin 2013 - this is a live performance (2:17:45) at 1:08:00 there is a drum solo by Hana, the blue haired drummer - ua-cam.com/video/mLnA2GSKsZU/v-deo.html
Gacheric Spin 2014 - My own Cinderella - ua-cam.com/video/G_t2CEc9Qjk/v-deo.html
The the drummer can also play guitar/bass and keys, so yeah she's basically a beast.
albis888 Hana can play 11 instruments, truly a talent.
@@vectorifix3218 Yeah I know she can play more instruments (like that electric flute thingy recently), but I only mentioned the instruments I saw her play, that I wouldn't consider too gimmicky :D
Got serious guns too.
Whooo!!!
Whooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Took the word out of my mouth! 😁
This is a joy to see and hear. Very talented people who work their butts off so they can make it all seem so casual and off the cuff. Because believe me, getting the choral vocals to work like that would take HOURS of work! Much respect for these ladies!
There's something in the Japanese water for sure.
“Is there anything she can’t do?”
Dunno, she plays guitar now in Gacharic Spin.
Bass too I think in another band.
Also the Aerophone so that Oreoreona doesn't have to bring along the keytar when she goes up front for lead vocals like in Hunting Summer with the current lineup
Don't forget the helmet cowbell.
Gacharic Spin and Fuki kinda formed a super group called Doll$box
That F chopper koga man... That bass line did something to my body.
Bruh, I'm not even mad. I'm just confused haha.
F Chopper Koga does some solo bits for BOSS on UA-cam...amazing bassist
She’s got her own line of basses thru Vellemor. The FCK series. Makes me wonder if she picked that name on purpose!
Badass!
OK I need to catch up with your back catalogue. I missed the first video and am now kicking me. Great find! So glad I watch this channel
She slaps that bass,
Right in your face.
Can't believe that rhymes haha.
"Is there anything she can't do?" Well, she can't launch herself to the space, can she? 😁
No, that’s guitarist TomoZo
You know what, she might if she owns a rocket. Just like Sabaton owns a tank 😁
Mmmmm I wouldn't put it past her.
Yes. Nao is a goddess
I recommend this to Chase and he stated he will be getting to them 🤘😊🤘
YES! Or ANY Maximum the Hormone song! :)
Akane of BANDMAID is a huge fan of hers
Domo arigato goziemashita!!!! Thanks for another new sound for my ears! And that cute start!!!!
The video has not started and I'm already smiling xD. I am one of those who recommended this band and this song when you reacted to other Japanese bands ... well, now I will continue watching :-D
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@ChaseCarneson yes sir!!! It sure put me in a really good mood! Also ,suggestion, you can check out another Unlucky Morpheus song, the song "Knight of Sword" is super cool too.
While not necessary to do so, the "watch order" of these videos follows the track order of the "Dolls Apartment" album
1. Loud Twin Stars
2. Merrily High Go Round
3. Take My Chance
4. monopoly
5. ロールプレイング・ライフ
6. fragrance
7. KARAKURI TOWN
8. おもちゃの兵隊
9. Doll’s Box
what a reaction =) great faces cool analysis ^^ loved it. In special the synth ^^
Also...when the drummer is the best person in the band XD
The live version of this song is also great. " Take My Chance live at Tokyo Dome City Hall"
and I love Tomo-zo (Gt). She is also one of the most talented guitarists in Japan. Check out the instrumental song featuring her. "Gacharic Spin - Instrumental - 2018"
Not just any instrumental ua-cam.com/video/VXAB83r0lbQ/v-deo.html
Although could be considered comparable band maids’ later Onset, this song “Planet Nicorin’s Rush Hour” is about TomoZo’s homeworld.
Thanks to this MV I found Band-Maid. So thank you Doll$Boxx.
This made me smile big time. Thank you so much for that. I definitely will do that 🙏❤️👌
people have been reacting to this video for so long and i love that two things have stayed the exact same
1) not really getting the idol parody at the beginning
2) happy-stank-face for the first vocal part
great video, as always, chase
also, have you done a Passcode reaction yet? i feel like you're overdue for a Passcode reaction
And time for my daily comment :)
You did a studio version several weeks ago. Now it's time for live :)
Heilung | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE
Awesome, awesome MV!!
It is an absolute pleasure to see the joy on your face when first chord hit and when Hana (the drummer) started to growl.
Love all of your reactions. Take care and stay safe.
They are a fun group. You helped me appreciate them a bit more for their skill as musicians and enjoyed watching you really get into them. Not my favorite Band from japan, but one that I do enjoy. Looking forward to more in the future.
I bought the album purely for this song but every song on the album is a banger
Love it. :-)
Haha...Mr Carneson stumbled into another rabbithole...and fell down😄
The drummer, Hana, was for many years the main singer in Gacharic Spin (where everyone except for Fuki is from).
That's it.
There's only the two releases, but they did make music videos for 9 of 10 songs from the album and all 4 songs from the EP.
Tomo-Zo is a very good guitarist and definitely the happiest. I think I never have seen her without a smile... J Chopper Koga is a beast.
Tomo-z is a very underrated guitarist. Her solos are rarely longer the 30 seconds but they are very well cinstructed.
.
Hiawatha Goldstein I second that they are so fun to watch they always bring a smile and then I have trouble getting the song out of my head for the rest of the day
Thank you for this. Always so helpful with the info.
Dir En Grey!!!!
I got you!!!!
"Loud Twin Stars" is another great song by this band
This was another great analysis. I really enjoy your reactions because there is so much that you explain about the musicology of the pieces. Thanks, Chase. Tomo-ZO is one of the top three female guitarists that I am aware of in Japan. She, Kanami (BAND-MAID) and Saki (Mary's Blood) are the great ones of Japanese ladies shredding guitars.
Fuki is an amazing singer,.. also gorgeous.
Because of this I looked a bit into DOLL$BOXX and also listened to Gacharic Spin. Their live video for "Juicy Beats" is an absolut banger! Thanks, Chase
Will do!!!
UHhh... so I haven't watched your first DOLL$BOX video... I've heard of them, never listened to them, I love BAND-MAID. That said... What the hell is this? This is amazing! Time to go down yet another Japanese rock/metal rabbit hole...
They're amazing right?
@@ChaseCarneson So amazing! This led me down a wild rabbit hole - the lead singer has a few other bands - Unlucky Morpheus being one of them. DEFINITELY check them out!
Have a damn good day, my friend!
Cool song, so much going on but it all fits together so well!
I love this wall of sound/texture, my favorite song from them. :-)
2:02 the drummer has some serious guns!
Great reaction Chase, the look on your face at the start was priceless. Lol Doll$$box is awesome and to think it’s only a side project for all of them. As been said by other’s before you should check out “Graphic spin” they get stuck in your head to.
Man I love your reactions! Go for "Loud twin stars" next. Keep it up!
A few GS links, nothing is so called “typical”, this is tough
Here’s a compilation of their first ever song, Lock On!, music Koga, sexy/domineering/sarcastic/teasing lyrics by original singer Armmy(sic), made up of chronological versions from DVDs over their first 7years ua-cam.com/video/_EVX0pK7UvY/v-deo.html
My very own Cinderella, 2nd? vid with dancing sophomores, Hana can’t decide... my impression is that the lyrics are creepily possessive, but I’m not 💯 sure ua-cam.com/video/G_t2CEc9Qjk/v-deo.html
Gold Dash, 2020 lineup, new drummer, Hana to 2nd guitar (def fills out heaviness, she’s ready for co-leads too, had actually filled in for TomoZo before, probably wrote the stuff?!), new singer hired last year at 17, finished HS after this vid & her first tour’s dvd. ua-cam.com/video/l8hE7XlRkUA/v-deo.html
And for kicks, try Ganbanba Dancer, teen on piano, Oreo scat/squeals, completely into being out of character weird... ua-cam.com/video/dkRXyApnteU/v-deo.html
God knows where they find all that talent!
Fun fact, there is a music video for each track off this particular album and they go in a certain order. This is actually the first video from the album. The framed intro/outro are going to let you know the order. You can even string them together into a one big super video, just takes a tiny bit of editing.
Same reaction glasses guys!
Shes a proficient guitarist as well.
Really impressed once again! I remember last time I linked you some crazy sonic the hedgehog djent cause something with the keys and higher guitar melodies had me in a similar space 😂
Didn't see the drummer doing harsh vocals coming at all.
I think it's pretty clear the Japanese music scene is a well oiled machine at this point, and to get noticed you really have to bring some fire, and they've done that.
I want video game sounds when I enter a room dammit
"Didn't see the drummer doing harsh vocals coming at all."
Such good fun and fits so well ! I'm not usually someone who is into harsh vocals for a whole song, but it works great to accent.
"I want video game sounds when I enter a room dammit"
I'm certain this can't actually be that difficult.
I fully enjoy the, "Kanami", tribute moment at around 11:00 of the video. XD
There is a live version out there 🤘😊🤘
I second this one, was first song I heard by them and was immediatley blown away by how good it was. The live version is definately worth a watch !!!
That's a great track to see! You will see that the only girl that is doing the distorted backing vocals is Oreo Reona because that is a live track (the keyboard player). He will probably delete my comment again. He is tone deaf.
Yes there's a live version right here: ua-cam.com/video/Tl4QNXnE-XU/v-deo.html
This video has always said to me
"Judge us by what we can do not what we look like"
Oreo Reona (keyboards)also does some gutteral vocals in this and Gacharic Spin along with Hana(basically any instrument she touches-a near prodigy)
Can't wait for some more Doll$boxx reactions! Definitely recommend Dragonet and Merrily High Go Round
My two favs. Song about last dragon, and happy song with best guitar solo ever.
Your reaction is very good👍😍
Thank you so much!
And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope- Ne Obliviscaris
When i saw their other band live (gacharic spin) the drummer on this was the front and she played at least 3 different instruments.
Another band out of Japan that does a good job with mixing midi/keyboard is Crossfaith.
My favorite Doll$Boxx song
To have a complete picture of these amazing ladies, you should really try the two last MV of Gacharic Spin (Mindset and I wish I).
Music wise, both of these tracks are absolutely 🔥from start to end !
Nice!
As for more Doll$boxx I'd recommend "Shout Down". Love that track, too!
Also check out Gacharic Spin of course which is basically the same band without the lead singer (and a few lineup additions as of late)
And don't forgett Maximum the Hormone!!!
Also please react to BLOODYWOOD!!! and remember to always watch their videos to the end for the important messages and funny video-shoot outtakes! "Ari Ari" for a start but they have other great songs as well :)
Hope to see you doing more reaction to unlucky morpheus😉
We will! I promise.
@@ChaseCarneson thanks
had that same first reaction wen they started singing as well :D but then im a sucker for harmony in general , and it helps that it is semi metal :D
Hana and F Chopper Koga...awesomeness. Fuki's power is beyond belief. And, yes, Tomo-zo can shred hard!
Here they are, in order:

Hana is not the only one in the band that can scream. Just saying. :)
Check out DOLL$BOXX - Loud Twin Stars for an example.
Here, enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/zc6ZEttA-YY/v-deo.html
🌟 Great Chase. Skeptical male audience. 🤨☹😣 Band starts. One minute later, audience 🥳🤠🤪🤩. Go! Girlband power has slain. 😎 🥰 😄 Nice. 🤗
The drummer plays sax and guitar as well
She's amazing!
フフフフ、
見かけの可愛さに油断してはイケマセン、、( ^ω^)・・・
The blue hair wins it for me. What a voice!
Just in case if you need this.

It's great to see you doing more J-rock, I feel like aside from the staples it's a genre that gets overlooked a lot.
It'd be great to see a reaction to some of the older J-rock/J-pop artists that laid the foundation. Malice Mizer or Dir en Grey would get my votes. Probably Bel Air from Malice Mizer and Garden or Cage from Dir en Grey.
please watch delicious live its a full concert from 2013 its awesome
fragrance is really good one of the best story songs ever bring tissues
Awesome, so glad you decided to check some more out by them, I thought you'd forgotten about them after Monopoly!
Regarding the drummer (her name is Hana) and whether there's anything she can't do, when it comes to music she's definitely a complete natural. Before she founded the band Gacharic Spin along with the bassist F-Chopper Koga (DOLL$BOXX is a Gacharic Spin side project with Fuki on lead vocals) she had sung and played guitar and bass for a number of bands. Here she is singing and playing bass in The Spade13 from April 2009, shortly before she left to found Gacharic Spin: ua-cam.com/video/M_a-ALIUvis/v-deo.html
Here's a video of her playing a cover of Smells Like Teen spirit arranged for various house-hold items such as drinking straws tuned by cutting to length, toothbrushing, kettles boiling, etc - includes her showing off her slap bass and shred guitar skills: ua-cam.com/video/HbXmA7pvHbU/v-deo.html
(I strongly recommend keeping an eye on that channel, it's Gacharic Spin's second channel where they've been posting weekly videos during lock-down, often of them doing ridiculous or silly covers or re-arrangements of songs in various styles).
If you want some suggestions of more to react to:
DOLL$BOXX - LOUD TWIN STARS (Live 2018) ua-cam.com/video/Tl4QNXnE-XU/v-deo.html
Gacharic Spin - Hana drum solo + Black Survival (feat. Fuki on guest vocals) (Live 2013) ua-cam.com/video/5u5BZnTe6zQ/v-deo.html
Gacharic Spin - Hunting Summer (Live 2019) ua-cam.com/video/zc6ZEttA-YY/v-deo.html - showing off their legendarily energetic, creative and accomplished live performances to the max here, also includes Hana playing the Roland Aerophone and solos from everyone to show off what they can do (including a few creative twists!)
Thanks again for taking the time to check out this amazing band and giving such a thoughtful review of this great track, I knew you'd enjoy the counterpoint in the chorus!
There is not enough DOLL$BOXX
09:50 You talk about Sano Hana the drummer and "is there anything she can't do" well you can add playing guitar as well.
Fuki + Gacharin Spin = Doll$Boxx is dynamite!
This song is weird but I like it. Your video was very interesting, You give so much music detals in it. I love this. Great reaction.🙂
She also plays guitar and bass, and is an academic, IIRC
Someone needs to let chase know that gacharic spin has new album out with two songs , “mindset” and I wish I” that are just amazing... we need his great dissection of the music....
First time hearing this band, definitely won't be the last.
