Hi guys - nice reaction - a shame you didn't previously come back to Gacharic Spin as they have a lot of diverse material, but great to see Doll$boxx too. Please note that ALL the instrumentalists here are from GS and they wrote all the music you were appreciating. Fuki provided the lyrics and of course the lead vocals.
Every song on this album (Doll's apartment) has a MV here on YT and they all have the same start / end style sequence although I'm not sure the order is all that important - the order is as follows: Loud twin stars, Merrily high go round, Take my chance, Monopoly, ロールプレイング・ライフ (Role playing life), Fragrance, Karakuri Town, おもちゃの兵隊 (Toy soldier), Doll's box, ヌーディリズム (Nudirhythm). Note this final track is a Doll$boxx version of a GS song.
Additionally every song also has a live version here on YT performed at their 2018 high spec high return concert (they performed 2+ hours as Doll$boxx and then returned after a break to perform almost 3 hours as GS) and you can find all these on the "Gacharic Fan" channel.
Although their music videos are good, I would personally recommend the live versions - especially the triple bill already linked by Michael - I think you would especially enjoy those 3 tracks which ended the show prior to the encore - it's 13 mins of musical excellence.
p.s. pronounce the $ as an "s" cheers!

Just a word of warning to our reactor friends that the MV for Shout Down is occasionally subject to blocks - everything from King records on the Doll's apartment album is ok, but the later EP had switched to a different company I won't name here, who are known for a tougher approach.

@@Socrates_1775 You're welcome. Doll's Apartment is definitely a full length album whereas High-Spec is just an EP. No knowing whether they'll ever do anything Doll$boxx related again seeing that Gacharic Spin appear to be busy for the foreseeable future. Not holding my breath for a return from Doll$boxx but fortunately they've left us with some fantastic music. Offset Era seriously need to work on their pronunciation of Japanese bands/artists names as every time they pronounce Gacharic Spin as Gacaric Spin, I cringe. As you said, it's a truly chaotic experience where we can enjoy the performance and feel the complex and highly structured performance. Fuki's powerful vocals, GS's highly technical instrumental playing, and the chorus are truly amazing.
DOLL$BOXX has been on hiatus for a long time, but they made a surprise announcement at Gacharic Spins's live performance on November 18th that they would be back next year and performing live. I hope they release new songs. Thanks a lot.

The live of this track is awesome. They did a now famous concert in 2018 at Tokyo Dome City Hall, as it was so good. They released a DVD of this concert but is just about impossible to get I know as I have been trying to get it.. The whole concert of which is mostly avaliable on UA-cam either as a complete concert or individual tracks. More so than with GS, TOMO-ZO really gets to cut loose on guitar, she really shines (well as they all do). I think this video is taking the mick out of fans of JPOP/IDOL fans. Initially expecting cute kawai girls and then totally shocked when the girls start singing and playing, but then by the end of the track they are really into it. Yes the blue haired lady can really scream like that live. Originally she was the GS drummer and vocalist (great at both). But she is a bit of a musical savant and has moved to guitar and vocals, with the occassional stint behind the drums,. If HomeGnome (a super fan of GS) comes on here correct me if I got anything wrong. If interested here are some links to a couple of tracks from the Tokyo Dome City Hall concert. The Shout Down / Karakuri Town one is magnificent I think.

Gentleman, Doll$Boxx needs to be seen live, just like Gacharic Spin, you absolutely have to hear drummer Hana in some of the Doll$Boxx live videos, you will also be stunned by her multi instrument goddess abilities, in fact Oreo keyboard, and Tomo-Zo guitar are also accomplished multi instrumentalist, the bass in this track by F Chopper Koga is actually benign compared to literally everything else she has done, and Fuki, what can't you say about Unlucky Morpheus and Fuki, I look forward to seeing your future reaction to more Doll$Boxx and hopefully Gacharic Spin as well, I hold these women in the highest of regards do to their musicianship and incredible energy, trust me, you will thank me.

Great reaction and analysis, guys! All of Gacharic Spins or Doll$Boxx songs are diverse in style and dense in arrangement. It's rare for them to put out simple straight forward songs, they pack a lot of stuff into their work.
If you continue with them (either GS or D$B), you have to check out a live performance as well, cause they are a phenomenal live act.
If you go with studio versions, I suggest either or BakuBaku from GS or Loud Twin Stars from D$B.

Yay Doll$Boxx! Okay, brief history time:
Gacharic Spin had a lot of difficulty early on. Their original singer (Armmy) was often sick and unable to perform. Fuki, the lead vocalist of Lightbringer (a power metal/speed metal band) volunteered to on occasion fill in, and the band liked playing with her so much that they created Doll$Boxx as a side project.
To be clear, all the instrumentalists in DB are the same as Gacharic Spin, with Fuki on vocals (during this time, Gacharic Spin didn’t have a lead vocalist; Hana the drummer and Reona the keyboardist split vocal duties).
Fuki was, as mentioned before, the lead singer of Lightbringer and currently is the lead vocalist for Unlucky Morpheus, and numerous side projects.
There have been two Doll$Boxx albums released, but nothing in quite a while. In the years since, Gacharic Spin added Angelina to their lineup as their front woman and co-vocalist, as well as another drummer (Yuri) so Hana can play whatever the song needs.

You can always expect a lot of bass in Gacharic Spin and Doll$boxx, Koga is an amazing bass player. All the musicians are actually way more talented than you would expect on first look. They can be very technical but generally try to keep the music fun to listen to. They also tend to use a lot of different layers with all instruments doing their thing, so you will typically discover new things on multiple listens.

To my surprise and absolute delight, Doll$Boxx are coming back (third time!). They just announced a series of shows late next year (including one in my city: Sapporo). As much as I love Gacharic Spin and (especially) Unlucky Morpheus, Doll$Boxx has always been my favorite project involving these musicians. Complexity, insane technical execution, and overpowering intensity live (I've seen them from the front row...freakin' life changing).
Yeah, their compositions are amazing, Hana Sano (the blue-haired drummer) is the primary composer (just like she is for Gacharic Spin). There is a lot going on in most of their songs (perhaps even more so on the stuff from their second album; this is from the first). There's as wide dynamic and emotional range, too.
And the musicianship! In a niche filled with world class bassists, Michiko "F Chopper" Koga is one of the very best, right up there with Fami from Lovebites, Misa from Band-Maid, Mina (ex-Girlfriend), and Wakazaemon from East of Eden/Marty Friedman. Tomo-Zo is one of the most underrated guitarists around, with superb technique and impeccable phrasing. Oreoreona's in a similar underappreciated position on keys. Hana came out from behind the kit in Gacharic Spin to be rhythm guitarist and co-lead singer...but her drumming is fantastic, and I'm glad she'd going to be able to get back to in "Doll$Boxx III." And Fuki...well, it's Fuki. For me, the best female clean singer in metal.
At one point, this was my favorite band, period (that would; be Nemophila these days). I'd _love_ for them to put out a third album in advance of the late 2024 tour...they'd be giving "Petallica" a run for the title, I suspect.

Something to note is there are two periods of collaboration on Dolls$Box, the early 2012 through 2014 collaboration and the later 2017-18 collaboration. The first period had more jpop and technofunk influences. The second collaboration in 2017 had a lot more of a progressive metal sound. Fuki's singing style also changes quite a bit also. During the first period Fuki tries to stay fairly close to the style of their former singer Armmy. In 2017 Fuki shifts to a much more mature vocal, bringing in traditional Japanese influences.

    • @Wyl7

And honestly, I think Fuki’s voice is getting deeper as she ages. I mean, she could always sing low (the Lightbringer “Midnight Circus” album has many great examples), but she could also go way up into her upper register and stay there for long periods of time. She can still access that upper register as needed, but she can’t live in that space anymore. So, yeah… some of the original DB songs with extended high range singing aren’t as easy for her these days. I think her mid-range Unlucky Morpheus tone is reflective of where her voice is now… still has the ability to go really high or low, but when she goes high she doesn’t stay there as long.
Fuki has always been known to stay busy, singing on lots of different projects, and I suspect she’s having to manage her way around years of overworked vocal cords. But don’t get me wrong, she’s still awesome… just different than a decade ago.

Your research captured some of it but here is more background on Gacharic Spin and Doll$Boxx:
GS started in 2009, with a lead singer called Armmy (Takae Ashitomi). They did a sort of highly technical punk-pop, but crossed genres a lot. They started to have friction between Armmy and the rest of the band, and then in early 2012 she left, officially for health reasons. She died in 2015; their work with her is very much worth seeing-here is an early one: “Setsunaku” ua-cam.com/video/vfzIt20_xXg/v-deo.html The girls were all just out of high school, and you can see they were already doing pretty advanced, technical stuff.
When Armmy left, GS had tours lined up in both Japan and abroad for 2012, and needed a lead singer. For the Japan tour various singers (including Fuki) filled in for different shows, but they couldn’t find someone good enough who could also commit to the band full time For their overseas tour Hana (who was doing drums and vocals and was effectively the co-leader of the band) took the lead vocals on herself. She also happens to play several other instruments. Here is a live performance of their track Across The Now from a tiny venue in France (filmed as part of their 2012 overseas tour-this was Hana's first test at taking lead vocals whilst drumming): ua-cam.com/video/_LnVAgqlE8g/v-deo.html
GS had had great chemistry with Fuki when she filled in for them, so while they were figuring out what to do with GS they contacted Fuki about doing a more metal project. This became Doll$Boxx. They wrote and recorded their first album at the end of 2012, then picked up GS again full time in 2013. This remains their main focus, and Fuki is busy with many projects including her main band Unlucky Morpheus, but they occasionally continue to perform together when their schedules permit. So Doll$Boxx can be considered a special project of GS.
Regarding the genre of Gacharic Spin, it's pretty much impossible to pin it down to any one thing, although by and large they'd probably fall very roughly in the "pop rock" genre although they really just do whatever they want at any given time. You'll find everything in their back catalogue from metal and punk to electro, dance, pop and ballads. Most of their recent work merges multiple genres.
In recent years, Gacharic Spin have added more personnel (a drummer, allowing Hana to focus on guitar and vocals, and dancers who also sing). Core personnel (these are also the members of Doll$Boxx along with Fuki):
Hana (Hana Sano): vocals, drums, guitar, keytar, other instruments
    Tomo-Zo (Tomoko Midorikawa): lead guitar
    F-Chopper Koga (Michiko Koga): bass
Oreo Reona (Reona Suzuki): keyboards, vocals
All of them can sing and occasionally take on lead or backing vocals. Hana and Oreo also do metal growls in some songs. Several other performers have rotated in and out of GS. Currently they list Yuri as their drummer and Angelina doing dance and vocals. Here's a fun video of them performing their track Hunting Summer: ua-cam.com/video/fWPyXZzeV3Y/v-deo.html Oreo takes lead vocals on this and there's a fun dueling keyboard solo between her and one of the dancers.
Here is Fantasy Medley, live, a medley of several of Tomo-zo's songs which are often named with a fantasy theme like Weekend Fantasy, Final Fantasy, etc: ua-cam.com/video/HLoqx_6B3Tw/v-deo.html
Finally, one of their most recent official videos, a remarkable excursion through fusion, electro-pop, metal and funk with some symphonic keyboards thrown in. Very few bands have the technical chops to pull off anything like this. “Mindset” ua-cam.com/video/QmL0V667QzI/v-deo.html

Fuki is an absolute legend and perhaps is the best vocalist out there. Along with Doll$Box, Unlucky Morpheus and Lightbringer, Fuki's other bands: Fuki Commune, Dragon Guardian, Florite, Magical☆Ninja.

Just to clarify gentlemen, the correct pronunciation of the band's name is Doll's Boxx with two "X's", not Doll Box as in two separate words. That dollar sign counts as an "S". As you may have heard from others in the comments section below, this band is, or was, comprised of four sixths of Gacharic Spin (F Chopper Koga: Bass, Hana: Drums and Vocals, Oreo: Keyboards and Vocals, Tomo-Zo: Guitar) and Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus on Vocals. To date, the band have released a full length album, Doll's Apartment (2012) from which Take My Chance is taken, and a follow-up EP which arrived several years later in 2017 in the form of High-Spec, along with 2 DVD'S: Doll's Collection, which comes with all the corresponding music videos off the Doll's Apartment album, and High-Spec High Return, a full live performance taken from a 2018 show at Tokyo Dome City Hall, which happened to place on the same day (15/4/2018) alongside a full length performance from Gacharic Spin, at the same venue, which was also captured for posterity on DVD. Certainly hope you enjoyed the song/video.✌️❤️🤘

This song is from 'Dolls Apartment', and the "to be continued…" at the end of each video leads to the next one in the series.
    In order, the songs/videos are:
Loud Twin Stars, Merrily High Go Round, Take My Chance, monopoly, ロールプレイング・ライフ (Roleplaying life), fragrance, KARAKURI TOWN, おもちゃの兵隊 (Toy Soldiers) (Omocha no Hetai), Doll's Box, and ヌーディリズム ($ヴァージョン) (Nudierhythm ($ version)).

I think it was on the Karakuri Town reaction that I suggested the guys do a double feature for Nudie Rhythm… watch the original GS MV and then compare it with the DB version.
I know fans argue over which is the better version. Personally I like both, but I favor the DB version only because I heard it dozens of times before hearing the original GS version (my “discovery” progression back in 2013-2014 was Lightbringer > Doll$Boxx > Gacharic Spin).

Give "Polkadot Stingray" a listen. Start with "Fiction" or "Telecaster Stripe"

Yes, while I find their newer stuff a bit too poppy/overproduced, I do enjoy their earlier stuff a lot. It's generally pretty funky/jazzy. I recommend checking them out as well, their earlier sound also has plenty of pop influences, but it's pretty unique. Their newer stuff isn't bad (I am not a fan of the production on the vocals though), but it leans very much to J-Pop to the point that I wouldn't consider some of it rock any more. It's getting somewhat similar to Zutomayo. Nothing against Zutomayo, it's one the J-Pop projects that I really like, but I just prefer Polkadot Stingrays earlier stuff more, specifically their first album and the EP's before that. The second album is still pretty good as well.
But again, I do recommend checking them out, because even with my whole rant about them getting close to J-Pop they still are very good musicians.

This song is simultaneously making fun of "otaku" (nerd) culture and the conventions of "kawaii" pop sensibilities.

From what I understand, this particular video is spoofing/commenting on a thing that was going on in Japan at the time. Or rather, perhaps, just in a certain part of Tokyo. Sketchy "promoters" were advertising "live music", and it would just be a group of schoolgirls in a basement somewhere, who usually could barely play. The actual point wasn't music; the "performance" was just a pretext for grown men to ogle cute schoolgirls (and perhaps there were other, even less savory shenanigans going on). That's what the audience in this video was there expecting, but instead they get their heads exploded by an actual, talented band.
There's a playlist here on UA-cam that has all of the videos from the "Doll's Apartment" album, in the correct order, and the videos do tell a coherent story from the first to the last.
And yeah, Koga is a brilliant bass player, and my favorite member of the band.

There are still plenty of Idol groups out there that perform for 10 to 20 fans in small venues in places like Akihabara for example. I don't think this has stopped.
I have seen a video by a Japanese youtuber who asked passing Japanese people some stuff in English to see how good their English knowledge was a couple of years ago and a couple of Idols (so they most likely just sing and dance) passed by and when he asked how many people were there one of the girls said 20 or so. One of the other girls tried to play it down like she was wrong, but it was obviously to try and hide the fact they only had a couple of people during their performance. They also told him it was mainly male fans, so I assume very closely matching this parody. These type of groups have a tough time trying to survive and I'm sure a bunch of them basically start the way you describe.
And to be fair, the streamed shows I watch are generally from smaller venues as well (bigger than this, but probably not that much more than 100 to 150 people). Even bands like Fate Gear, Asterism, Hades, ... play in pretty small venues sometimes. Some of the bands that play there have been around for a long time and never really leave those type of venues either. The competition seems to be really fierce in Japan.

All the musicians are from Gacharic Spin, it was created when the vocalist for GS left mid-tour. They finished the tour with guest vocalists and one of them was Fuki. They just created an other project because they clicked with Fuki. Fuki's main band back then was Light Bringer, Unlucky Morpheus was a side-project and only became more serious after Light Bringer split a couple of years later.

Well, let me count the ways. Start off with the American tradition of telling the bass player to stay in the pocket and not interfere with the guitar player's ego. Moving right along, you have a lead vocalist and 4 backup vocalists, to include an animal for a drummer who can do basic backup and growls. Add in a keyboard player who is actually playing. Finish up by saying that in America the production companies have literally killed rock and roll for the past thirty years. Not that we are not making it, but the way it is paid out means the artists pay for everything out of their 13%, and they can't get any exposure without going through the TWO remaining producers in the entire country. So, what you are seeing in Japan is the continuation of the western rock tradition without the shackles. We imagine this to be mind-bogglingly creative and seek to compare it to forms that were created a half century ago after which nnovation was finally strangled to death by the "it-sounds-like" money interests.

Basically, Fuki is an opera singer doing rock music. Her vocal is the definition of power.

She's not an opera singer. She's using vibrato.
