Lite Brite did one with a slightly modded Bronco (custom lift and bigger tires) and they made sure to remind folks that their wrangler has about 100K mods to it so you couldn't do a straight up comparison. Though they where pretty legit with the review. What I keep hating is they keep trying to compare the Bronco Sport to the Cherokee. Sorry it's stats are way closer to the Renegade not the Cherokee. Cherokee sits more in the middle of the two Bronco models.
The Lite Brite comparison demonstrated that IFS suspension on the Bronco is inferior to solid axle when it comes to rock crawling as the solid axle is much stronger. IFS works great on road and open high speed desert running as it rides smother. It comes down to what you want to do with your rig.
Lite-Brite also took their non-modified fully stock Rubicon on all the same Trails they tested the Bronco on before they modded out their now very capable Rubicon. And can I mention they quickly modified their Rubicon stepchild Wrangler from 35 to 38 with a VERY inexpensive lift. And the step child performed flawlessly. It can be done and has been done with the Bronco but get ready to empty the savings account. IFS is $$$
That was great! Fair and balanced review and I can’t wait till my buddy gets his Bronco so we can do the same… although based on this, it appears it’ll be driver vs driver 😂
Yeah having driven both, the driver can definitely make the difference. when I take the bronco on more trails we'll see how it does. either way you guys are gonna have a blast!

Driver is half the battle...and with two capable rigs...it is hard to pin down Rig vs. Driver. Love my Jeep...sure wish I had a Bronco too.
Thank you Dakota!! Toward the end of your video the stock lift vs 2" lifted 2 door Wrangler was eye opening. With the 2" lift the body roll seems less and rig looks more stable. Really good comparison. And no big deal not able to "stick" the obstacles first few tries vs last time you did. Terrain changes all the time from use, weather, etc.

Tell Ferd to replace the sway-bar disconnect with a unit that, upon entering that mode, mechanically drives the opposite wheel down in proportion to the compression of one front wheel like a solid axle does. All it takes is some sensors and software for the best traction all day.. Then, go full independent suspension for a comfy ride and precise on-road handling, and you still have "solid axle" like off-road performance when you want it in the boonies at the push of a button. All it takes is money, I suppose. And smart engineering. Great honest comparison, thank you.
Like the looks of that 2 door Bronco vs the 4 door. Bronco performed well and looks like a capable rig. Very happy with my Rubicon but love to see some legitimate competition. Good or all of us.

Great true to reality comparison. Both very capable vehicles. I am a long time Jeep owner (owned a CJ since 1990...). But I am really enjoying my new Badlands for the onroad behavior. You can't go wrong with either vehicle and having them compete will just improve the product for us end users :)

Don't be harsh on yourself, my wife is a Bronco gal I'm a Wrangler guy, you did perfect it was probably just the 20 psi instead of your usual 15 psi. Excellent comparison! As a Wrangler guy since I'm a 5 year old to now being 31 in March, I'll be happy to see Broncos hit the trails!
At 7:40 the Bronco took a line more to the right. That avoided the front passenger tire from going down into the hole a few inches to the left. You can clearly see that hole at 8:15 on the Wrangler approach, and the Wrangler passenger tire going into it.
That would make it easier for the wrangler to get over it. That bronco I just a beast

Good comparison between the two vehicles. I’ve seen a few four door Broncos locally, they’re really large vehicles…
It’s not to surprising that the Broncos a fairly capable vehicle considering all of the other vehicles Ford had to imitate from.
Fantastic comparison! No extra blah blah talking, no stupid loud filler music. Just straight forward comparo. I do wonder why the Jeep seemed to have less flex with the lift. I do think 15 psi would've helped both a lot. It clearly showed how a 5 psi drop helped the Jeep. Thanks man!

Bronco is really amazing for the price
That is when prices go down. Trying to find a bronco at MSRP right now is ridiculous. You can buy a base model Rubicon or even a V8 wrangler for the prices that some of these Broncos are going for. I saw one the other day that was $76,000 and it looked no different from a sport package wrangler.
@12:37 I have seen this a time or two where stock Jeeps out perform Jeeps and other vehicles with bigger lifts and in this case, tires. Go back to 33's, that's what makes these stock Rubicons so appealing. You never have to mess with expensive geometry mods. They can do amazing things especially in the hands of a competent driver with common sense and good off-road instincts. I have a modest 2.5" lift with 32" ko2's on my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn and it's an amazing TJ on and off road. The Fox Shox and Fox steering stabilizer have this TJ performing extremely well.

Couldn't ask for a better comparison. Pretty impressed with the Bronco just not sure I'm fond of the engine yet as far as power and longevity. Thanks for putting together a great video.
So far power wise the 2.7 V6 is MUCH better than the 3.6 in the Wrangler. way more low end torque. Longevity will have to wait to be seen but it has the 3.6 in the wrangler beat in just about every other aspect. My 392 wrangler on the other hand...not so much haha

Both amazing vehicles. I did find it incredibly interesting how the jeep performed differently with the two inch lift vs without. Looked like it far more approach bounce compared to without the lift.
Yeah I think it was a combination of the spring rate being to stiff, and the tires not being aired down as much (usually run 15PSI)

I have a 2d Rubicon...I subscribe to the Low Center of Gravity school...vs. 6" lifts and 40's...mostly because I am a broke ass lmao.

Finally someone did a Jeep vs xxx with the same tires. Everyone usually wants to compare a base model Jeep with stock tires and compare it to a top of the line other vehicle with off-road tires. At that point it's just a tire comparison. Great job

Nice video comparison-thumbs up. Seen one for the first time and spoke to the guy that owned it, there seems to be a noise from the roof and it's huge, yet competition is good too much of a Jeep guy to get one. But it does look good inside. Can't wait to see one on the trail.

That problem with lifting a small two door makes the center of gravity lighter, so there not enough weight on the tires to get traction, I have been 4x4 for 40 years and I go low and slow

Sooo, youre saying the vehicle is lighter? lol......negative... Lifting a vehicle effects the center of gravity making it less stable in off camber situations... Sway bars can affect weight distribution to individual tires. Nothing about the center of gravity makes the vehicle weigh less. Its the moronic people who think lifting a vehicle is the first thing one should do for capability . LCOG builds do exist ^.^

Great video. When the bronco was announced I was excited and wanted one. Then the long wait kinda cooled my desire and I ended up buying a sxs and a duramax to pull it(plus it’s just an awesome truck LOL) and I’m glad I went that way. The sxs handles everything these two do and more with so much ease and is so much more comfortable doing it. Also I have probably $10k left at least from what the bronco cost. Definitely one of the best comparison videos I’ve seen.

Nice job, great to see an owner produced side by side comparison. I've been a Jeep guy for 15 years both west coast and east coast. Some comments and questions
Jeep:
1) it sounds like the Jeep JL drivetrain still has that well known mechanical slapping when in low range under load, between the transfer case and drive shafts.
2) I also think the decreased climbing performance your now seeing is due to the lift, you have a higher center of gravity now, and different spring rate.
Bronco
1) I'm impressed with how well balanced and controlled the drivetrain is, very solid.
2) The articulation is better than many thought, I'm impressed, but I think there is room to improve.
Of the two, which one gave you a better sense of footing, roll, and steering/traction in the more challenging parts of the trail?

Now you your points, The jeep definitely has a louder drivetrain lash. the bronco has it every now and then but never that loud. could also be due to the fact that its a manual.
and I agree with you on the second point. might need to find a lift that's a bit softer sprung.
With the bronco it has way more articulation than i thought. its cool seeing that they set up the front suspension softer to allow for more flex.
Now as far as which one felt better on trail. it really depends. on more stair step style obstacles, the Bronco felt better as far as grip and control on tight narrow sections the jeep feels more comfortable and on extreme flex scenarios the jeep has it beat. i plan on taking both and them individually on more trails out in Moab and Colorado hopefully soon.

Was watching the end part when you where struggling with the lift to get over the one spot. It looks like you came in more at an angel the first time without lift so both your back tires didn't hit at the same time on the rock edge and that allowed you to just pop right over. Other wise some times we just have those days.

With everything there is pro's and con's and I think the reason that the stock suspension did better that your lifted suspension is that when you lifted suspension that you made it stiffer and you weren't getting as pliable of a ride. I could be wrong but it is only thing i could think of as to why your stock vehicle was taking obstacles easier.

Excellent. Bronco comes in as the (IFS) underdog and hangs with the king. One subtle difference, 20 PSI tire pressure on a lighter vehicle will give a smaller contact patch than 20 PSI on a heavier vehicle. Enough to make a difference? Perhaps.

the tiers on the lifted 2 door JLR were not deflated enough, you can easily notice the tires on the no lift jl embrace the rocks versus the bouncing lifted JL
The wheel base on the Bronco is also slightly longer, which may have allowed the front tires to get better traction before the rear tires hit the rock.
I would be interested to see the weight differences between the two perhaps top off both fuel tanks and take them to a cat scale at the local truck stop.

I love the bronco but i really hope ford fix the hardtop problem by 2023. I know there will be plenty of aftermarket options too but @ 11:05 i cant help but hear the top rattle over and over. Thanks for the content

Great comparison! It's really cool to see the two in the same situations. What a difference the SFA makes in articulation as compared to the IFS!. That said, the Broncos seems like its front-end articulates quite well for IFS. It definitely seems to have more wheel travel than my 4Runner.

Amature......stock tj stock tires, (swaybar discoed) No damage. Gold bar rim. Poison spider. Flat iron mesa. 7 mile rim. Wipeout hill. Metal masher. Gemini bridge before it was closed. Ect.....
Your "stuck" jeep was not on the same line. Damn near a whole tire width off. If you could not tell that the front tire and back tire were trying to climb an edge at the same time as the reason It was struggling you really need to learn how to off road.
However.....(sadly) this was one of the best and fairest matched comparison videos I have seen. Keep it up.

I’ve taken stock sports up the end of Royal Gorge. It’s 100% the driver in this situation. You don’t even need lockers for this obstacle.
07:45 the line was better...and the front passenger wheel of the Bronco was not caught in the rut. 08:17 and you can see the passenger front of the jeep is at least a foot more to the left...putting it in a deeper hole causing traction issues. That is what was going on. Line issue...not a rig issue. Line is everything. A little bummed I bought my Rubicon months before Ford announced the 2dr Badlands...but I am Happy all the same with my Rig. Both trucks are badass fun.
The older Bronco's look better......
Kinda funny you say that. Ford scanned the original bronco to make basically the modern day version. So, not much of a difference overall.
Resale value better on old ones these depreciate super fast. Anything with 4 cy ecoboost wont be worth anything. Be lucky to get 8,000 from dealer who will sell it for 12.,000. Till noone buys it and it goes to auction..
@@sharkiesgirl8929 "These depreciates really bad" ... First these are brand new not a huge sample on resale to get that info. Second the used car market is hella inflated, not much of anything (other than lyxury) is depreciating fast. 3rd most people selling theyre broncos are selling them used for 5k over msrp after miles. Fourth, First editions are selling for 2x msrp on auction and private sales.

At 12:50 you hit the obstacle dead on. Approach it at an angle so only one wheel hits at a time and you'll easily climb that.

Awesome video! On trails like these, is there any reason to keep the diffs open? Or would it be better to just keep them locked the entire ride?
You don’t want to keep them in for the entirety of the trail. It will do damage to the vehicle like that. When you’re turning around and maneuvering and what not. You only use them when you encounter an obstacle you think you’ll need them for them turn them on, get over the obstacle then turn them off. It will be really hard in the driveline and differentials.

Fantastic video! This is the one everyone's been waiting for because no one else could do it right, Dakota, does the lifted wrangler perform any better than it did with just 35"s?
On certain things. really it just helps you not scrape the bottom up as much going over obstacles and allows for 37's. with the wrangler getting the diffs up helps a lot(so bigger tires). this particular lift is a bit too stiff for the 2 door since it is also designed to work with the 4 door(which is heavier).

Like modern out of the box hunting rifles are capable of more accuracy than most shooters can get out of them, modern out of the box off-road vehicles like these two are capable of more than most drivers can do with them.
Pretty accurate. Especially when you consider that the majority of people who buy these will not take them off-road. Which is sad and pointless because they’re are better daily drivers out there if you have 0 plans to do any off-roading haha.

Jeep is definitely a better hard core off road vehicle although the Sasquatch makes it competitive
I have a question about which lift did you put on Rubicon. I run a 2 inch Jeep lift on my 2011 Rubicon and BFG KM3. That combination works fantastic...
The lift in the JL is the dynatrac 2 inch lift.

It is definitely wider for sure! Little bit harder to place than the wrangler but no where near as wide or bloated as a 4Runner or something like that.

@@drivenmad2089 Oh, very interesting! We have a 4Runner and visually it seems so much smaller than the Bronco in every dimension. Measurements show that a base Bronco (4dr) and 4Runner are very close in size, but those numbers don't always translate to roads and trails. And obviously the 2dr is going to be smaller and easier to maneuver.
Your video on the cargo space with and without seat on the Jeep was helpful too. Easily the best visual and explanation I've seen on the internet. I'd love to eventually see a trunk/cargo comparison of the 2 doors at some point if you feel like shooting it.

@@williekenk I have a 4Runner too, and what I noticed about it is that there is just a lot of body. The Jeep and the Bronco have much better angles, less overhangs, and the tires are out further in the corners. On both of those vehicles you get 4 to 6in of Fender Flares sticking out, on a 4Runner it's all sheet metal. I don't know about you, but I see a lot of 4Runners that off-road even moderate trails seem to have a lot of body damage in places that would not touch on a Bronco or Wrangler.
I think the Bronco makes a small compromise in rock crawling and flex compared to the wrangler. But, for that, it gets much better road manners and high speed off roading. I think that's a good trade off for a lot of people.
That's a good way to put it. But its less of s rock crawling compromise compared to some other vehicles like a ZR2, Tacoma, 4Runner etc.

I have one, it's pretty capable for what it is, being a vehicle designed over a decade ago, however it's not in the same league as either of these. I'd like to see just how well it does stack up.

Seems like the suspension of Jeep needs to be adjusted. Fast rebound and compression will cause too much up-down swing while trying to climb big step rocks, the rebound will make the car jump backward once you hit the rock but have not fully climbed on it. Sorry about my terrible English, I hope you can understand. Cheers.

So 35's fit on the stock rubicon rims? We have a 2021 with the 33's. If the 35's fit I may get rims for my truck and swap the 33's onto that, put 35's on the rubicon. We took it off road with the local jeep club last week. It did great except for a few spot where it got hung up a bit due to ground clearance but was able to get over with a good spot and a little skidding on the rock guards.

I think you need to have both rigs with the same tires. That way you eliminate that. That way it’s drive train against drive train wheel base against wheel base etc….
Well I am considering getting some KO2’s for the bronco. Definitely wont be buying the territory m/t’s for the wrangler. Not really a fan of the Goodyears.
