I’m just gonna pretend RDR1 never even happened and think to myself that John and his family lived a happy life, while being a legendary badass gunslinger who always remembered Arthur as a brother and savior, and being a good family man at the same time. Dutch lives in seclusion and dies fighting the law. Ross eventually gives up on Marston after seeing he’s a changed man. Jack later publishes his own book and makes success out of it and decades later, people know his Red Dead novel as a classic masterpiece that tells tales of Arthur and John. Even Franklin owns it in his crib.
Sadly, the image of John being cut down by Ross's men is burned into my head, but I do take some confort in the fact he still has a few years left, and those years will be his greatest... In his last year, he will go from just another member of Dutch's gang, to a western legend. In my head, John and Arthur had to die, it was their fates... they couldn't escape their past. Poor jack got the raw end of the deal though, losing both the father figures in his life, and then his mother only a few years later. But, Jack avenged his father, and with Ross dead, Jack abandoned the outlaw life to pursue his dream of becoming a writer... eventually writing a book that would still be on American shelves a hundred years later. I like to think that both Red Dead Redemption, and Redemption 2, are Jack's books, his accounts of his father and his uncle's exploits in the waning years of the American frontier. Possibly explaining the more over-the-top moments of the game, like the Mysterious Stranger with godlike intuition and an apparent immunity to bullets, or John and Arthur's shared ability to easily kill fifty men in one gunfight with relative ease. The epilogue of RDR wouldn't be a part of his books - as that would technically be a confession to murder, that part of the game would exist only in Jack's memory... as one final moment of outlaw justice in the old west.
Minoos Before I beat RDR1 I saw the alternate ending where the guy edits the footage so it appears that John can turn and sprint full speed out of the barn and the real ending instantly shocked me
Probably the only bad thing about this mission. I put Arthur's hat on to honor him but the hat just kept getting shot off. Rockstar should have made the hat unable to be shot off just for this mission. The final scene confronting Dutch and Micah would be 10x better with Arthur's hat on

Mcquiz95 Do you mean why he didn’t kill him at the end of chapter 6 or why he didn’t kill him during the time skip? If you mean the time skip, he left Micah and after taking the time to process everything, he went to go after Micah. I’m guessing he was able to eventually find Micah through the same rumors Sadie found out about him. He probably just couldn’t find him after leaving him.
The heat of the Wild West, the endless summer, like the lives of its actors, heroes and storyhood, is beginning to freeze in the inevitable cold of winter and the grip of death. It starts the way it ends. Just like life.
Can't look a man in the eyes when hes seconds away from dying. Cant sdmit he lost, and that John won. petty and bitter until the very end. Good riddens
The irony in all of this is that Arthur told John not to look back, to leave everything that happened behind. But John was stubborn and decided to go after Micah, which led Agent Ross straight to Beecher's Hope and caused the Marston Family's kidnap, John's own death and Jack turning into everything John didn't want him to become. It's really sad but I love it.
@@Mcquiz95 Maybe. But then again, John did buy and build the ranch and no one bats an eye. It could've taken Ross many many years to realize he was right under their noses. Sometimes the best hideout is where people expect the least. Or maybe Ross would've find him even faster, go figure.
Good chance that if he did nothing, Micah would have been sent to do what John did in RDR1. Either way, it wouldn't be over until all the former van der Linde gang was eating dirt.
Andree Tungcab That's exactly what I said. Micah would have been sent to hunt down John, Bill, Javier, and Dutch, just as John was. Micah's death simply meant the Bureau moved down the list.

This is why Arthur told John not to look behind. Arthur only just want to let john and his family live in peace without looking back after they had being through. So it will cost for John for taking revenge.. Rip both
Firdaus GamingChannel Arthur did say this when he went to visit the Downes Ranch after Mr. Downes passed away to his son Archie: “Revenge is a fool’s game.”
I get the feeling that Micah would have come for John eventually. If he was working with the Pinkertons, which later became the Bureau, I'm sure they'd have fingered him to take out the rest of Dutch and his senior guns. Micah's death just prompted Ross to move further down the list.
After we're done, I'm gonna kill Marston too-Micah Bell 1899. So John is gonna sit by and wait til Micah founds him instead. Might as well kill him now to protect yourself. John, Uncle and his family should have just escaped with Charles to Canada or with Sadie on South America
Andree Tungcab the big catalyst is also Dutch, I believe Ross the Pinkerton or the Federal Bureau at this point were meeting with Micah to catch Dutch. I believe Dutch was there to confirm his suspicion that Micah was the rat once Ross showed up. Ross did eventually show up just a little too late.
Either way they would of went after john, he escaped the prison, he killed hundreds of men, robbed two big banks, was a member of one of the most wanted gangs. So either way he was going to be come after
"All manner of folk paying social calls. Join us, John." Took me a while to realise that Micah was most likely meeting up with Dutch to turn him in to the Pinkertons and he was hoping for John to join them so he could turn in him too. With Ross and Fordham arriving shortly after, it makes sense.
Best part is Dutch knew it- he was there to kill Micah all along. He even says so when John asks Dutch what he’s doing there: “Same as you, I Suppose.”
@@austinmonreal2331 That's true and, as amazing as it is, it's also tragically poetic. Dutch and Micah would've destroyed themselves without John interfering, but him doing that has led the Pinkerton right at his house. In the end, it's exactly as Arthur said: *"You gotta go and don't look back. Vengeance is an idiot's game."*
I like to think that canonically, John lost Arthur's hat on the mountain, which is why he doesn't have it in RDR1. It's symbolic of him finally letting go of the outlaw life after avenging Arthur. And it's nice to think that the last remnants of Arthur, his grave and his hat, lie on top of the highest peaks of the highest mountains, closest to heaven, above all else.
I like to imagine that he kept it and later gave it to Jack. I know Jack wears a different hat in RDR1's epilogue, but there's something about the idea of an older Jack confronting Ross at the river while he's fishing, the same way Ross did him when he was little, all while wearing his Uncle Arthur's hat that makes me happy

I doubt it, John was good, but pretty regular gang member. Here he singlehandedly killed the whole gang and avenged Arthur's death. People are going to talk about it.
Looking back on all this, Rockstar really outdone themselves by putting a lot of love and consideration into the game's overall story. I really loved watching John, Sadie, and Charles racing over to Mt. Hagan to settle the score with Micah like they were in some movie or something.
I love how Arthur rescued Micah from certain death at Strawberry, yet after Micah betrayed him, it was Strawberry that his friends used to track him down. In the end, Strawberry still claimed Micah for his sins.
This game focused too much on detail and story, gameplay is a bit of a letdown though. No infinite bounties like in the first one, no robbing banks like in the first one.
@@mlplarisanable excuse me? I'm an idiot for making justifiable criticisms? That makes you some kind of stupid fanboy who's happy to play the same boring cookie cutter shit that Rockstar puts out. You're pathetic.
I think it's a good thing Micah got killed because I keep getting the feeling that if John didn't kill him, Ross would've recruited him to hunt down Dutch's gang instead.
If Micah didn’t die he would have turned in Dutch to the Pinkertons before Dutch could kill him, then the Pinkertons would have him become the main character of RDR1
I got theory here: what if after all that happen 1899 and Arthur's death, Dutch felt guilt and depressed all those years. Realizing and feeling responsible for all that happen. Including letting the only two people he consider family die because of his actions. Hosea, who was a brother to him, died at the Bank job in Saint Denis. But think Arthurs death was much more impactful, because he was the only one left who remained loyal despite all that dutch did. Which is why i think dutch left arthur behind towards the end of his life, because after realizing what a fool he was and realizing how much arthur gave his entire life to help him. He felt like he betrayed his only son and The whole situation was too much for him to handle. Thats why in 1907 i think thats why dutch seems "interested" in working with micah again. Cuz in reality hes avenging his brother Hosea and his son Arthur. However through out all of RD2 and especially since john has the tenancy to leave. Dutch doesnt consider John like a son or anything no more. Thats why after killing micah..dutch doesnt say a word to John at all and walks away knowing he somewhat full fill on avenging Arthur and his wish to let john and his family live on. Hence why he left the money.
How I would like it to end: Everyone survives Sean: His hat is shot off, not his head. Shitty sniper. Kieran: The gang finds out Kieran was captured so they raid where he's held hostage, an free him. Hosea: He escapes the law Lenneh: He shoots the two officers that would have killed him, only suffering a minor injury Molly: She doesn't get drunk and "Confess" to being a rat (It was really Micah) Miss Grimshaw: She doesn't get distracted enough to let Micah shoot her. Arthur: He didn't have TB, just one hell of a bad cough. Micah: He's dead. Fuck him. (The voice actor's cool tho) And they all enjoy living in the ranch and piss on Micah's grave Edit: RIP Sean’s hat Edit 2: I know that would defeat the whole purpose of the game, it’s just if it was a good ending.
even though thats a happier ending, i prefer the tragic one.. i think thats what makes red dead redemption a wonderful game: the fact that outlaws (with two wonderful heroes) CAN have a sad ending (sorry for the english)
"Hey, maybe revenge wasn't such a good idea since it led the law to my doorstep and took away the life I wanted for my family." *TLOU2 and RDR 1 and 2 have very similar thematic messages, and failing to spot that is pretty illustrative of how ignorant some gamers are lmao*
@@GigaChadh976 Nah, they're both well delivered and display the consequences of revenge on it's characters. I'd argue RDR takes it to another level with the obliteration of the VdL gang. It wasn't insulting. It was only natural for Joel's choices to come bite him in the ass in the near future. Same happened to Arthur and John, the latter of which took the Ellie route and killed Micah, only to have his family and literal life taken from him as a result. Besides, that isn't the issue here. Someone thought it'd be smart to use John's revenge as a counter argument against Ellie's end game choice, while completely missing the message behind both stories. I honestly don't care if you find it insulting to characters and shit, that isn't what I highlighted in my comment.
@MKI Wtf are you talking about? Did you forget about characters like Sadie and other females in the gang? @@tofferooni4972 Probably. Still, it doesn't mean he should cry over his own grave, at least put a woman in like Abigail or Sadie for the motion capture.

i was going to say this, the desperation in her voice really broke my heart.. people give abigail a lot of flack for being naggy, but john had his family, property and life on the line, of course she'd be paranoid :(
I'm married with children but I'd have done exactly the same as Marston. After all John's been through as an outlaw and the life, he can't walk away with loose ends despite what Arthur's final wishes might be. Arthur's end was known to him so that has to change how he sees things, John assumed he had a whole life to live ahead of him so likely would never be able to relax until he knew everything was set straight. Even Charles knew it had to be done and he was one of if not the most sensible members of the gang.
It made me impatient. I felt like, "get off me, I'm on a mission here" I'd have been sad if my husband did this because I'd know there's a good chance he'd die but I'd respect him enough to know why he was doing it

@@UnintelligentVideos Good point, but think about this: When John asks Dutch what he's doing there he says, "same as you, I suppose." We all know why John was there, to kill Micah, that's obvious. During the canon ending Dutch walks out on Micah, clearly because of Arthur's death. Why would Dutch ride with the same man who sold them out to the Pinkerton's? I think it's likely that he would have killed John, until Arthir was mentioned, but he was also gonna kill Micah either way. That's just my opinion, though.
It’s just bone chilling at the end where John and Abigail are standing is the same place their graves are. Fantastic foreshadowing, Rockstar really outdid themselves with this game.
The prequel dilemma is how to tell enough of the story to get the audience to the start of the "sequel" without hitting them over the head with it and/or being too clever. Rockstar did such a good job of doing just that.

@@leonardobuesst4247 John was a gang member aswell so Micah would have hunted him down
I got theory here: what if after all that happen 1899 and Arthur's death, Dutch felt guilt and depressed all those years.
Snoopy Aparicio good theory

How I would like it to end: Everyone survives
Sean: His hat is shot off, not his head. Shitty sniper.
Kieran: The gang finds out Kieran was captured so they raid where he's held hostage, an free him.
Hosea: He escapes the law
Lenneh: He shoots the two officers that would have killed him, only suffering a minor injury
Molly: She doesn't get drunk and "Confess" to being a rat (It was really Micah)
Miss Grimshaw: She doesn't get distracted enough to let Micah shoot her.
Arthur: He didn't have TB, just one hell of a bad cough.
Micah: He's dead. Fuck him. (The voice actor's cool tho)

@@TheoTungsten it was just a joke, but why spoilers to Red Dead 1 ?
@@adolfogarzachaires394 because Micah died, Pinkertons found him, and hired John to do dirty work. Leading to the "incident"
@@dj-r0ca485 pinkertons didn't find him, they already knew he was there, cuz he was still the pinkertons rat
33:03 the funny thing about that scene is that’s Arthur’s voice actor doing the motion capture there. The guys while producing it were like “hey there BOAH do you want to cry over your own grave” and obviously who would pass that up? So he really played it up and now I can’t help but chuckle whenever I see that bit.
So it was Roger Clark crying for the motion of Mary? 😂
Why was he even doing it?!
@@saladfingers9782 Mary wasnt available i guess
@@tofferooni4972 Probably. Still, it doesn't mean he should cry over his own grave, at least put a woman in like Abigail or Sadie for the motion capture.
@@saladfingers9782 Oh come on let the man be sad at his own death
Abigail was right, if John hadn't gone for Micah, Ross couldn't track him down and John would have lived.
That being said, it is John's duty to track down Micah. So I guess he just had to die....
He could and he would, he had a bank loan on his real name. It was inevitable.
Welp, as Arthur said, revenge is a fool’s game
@@FlymanMS I agree. And if RDR1 taught us anything, it's that some things are not simply forgotten or forgiven. I don't think Ross would have let up either way until all of Dutch's senior guns were dead and gone.
So what should he do? Wait and go soft and Micah finds him instead? Then John will die as well.
Chingam Fong I’m sure even if they didn’t kill them he had the bank funds so there you go it wasn’t just Micah and this wasn’t even planned in the first game
"Don't cry when it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr. Seuss
This game is a truly masterpiece, always has been.
Seuss never wrote that.
If John actually did listened to Abigail, probs Ross wouldn't find him and kill him at the end of RDR1
Revenge is a fool's game
MikMik didnt micah said he will kill john marston next
He'd probably still find him, even if John didn't go after Micah.
Ross would just follow the trail.
Ross would have found him either way, he already made too much noise in big valley
Red dead redemption 1 and 2 is based on foolish choices
I love how once Micah was barraged by shots from John he just turns around and says “yep I’ll die right here.”
Is it just me but when Abigail was crying telling John not to go that really made me sad :(
i was going to say this, the desperation in her voice really broke my heart.. people give abigail a lot of flack for being naggy, but john had his family, property and life on the line, of course she'd be paranoid :(
I'm married with children but I'd have done exactly the same as Marston.
I felt like, "get off me, I'm on a mission here"
I'd have been sad if my husband did this because I'd know there's a good chance he'd die but I'd respect him enough to know why he was doing it
John saying “yeah... just me” is probably the best delivered line in any video game.
John forgives Micah and the game lets us play as him.

Micah: * shits pants *
This in my opinion is the most badass mission that I have ever played
23:49, look at Dutch’s right hand when John says “Arthur”
Was he was going shot john earlier?
@@jakowski630 Probably, that single line probably made Dutch rethink everything and realize Micah was the problem
He still hated John though so that's how rdr1 happens

23:53 i like that when Micah talks about Arthur like that Dutch looks at him like "no one disrespects Arthur"

Holy shit I've never been more hype than when I played this. This game had a lot of bugs and frustrated me early on. But damn it got me by the end. The ending, then the epilogue ending were both so good. This is now my favourite game ever.
R3fug33 exactly what happened to me in the beginning, I was so disappointed with the amount of buggy interactions and weird glitches and clunky controls, but then it fixed up, and the game is awesome now.
