I come back here every now and then because some years ago this is how I learned about the existence of Jacob. So: Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Awesome, it's actually an IMPROVEMENT! Unbelievable. I spent so much time listening to the crazy harmonies, I didn't realize how freaking technical the rhythm was until this. Has Jacob seen/commented on it? Betting money he'd LOVE it! Accurate drumming.
As soon as the vid started, I was like "This is a real jazz drummer if I've ever seen one." You are a great musician. The type that inspires me and demotivates me at the same time lol I am sure you know the type. Subs.
Thanks for the view and kind words! Man, just dig into whatever your into and devote time to it and you'll get somewhere. Feel free to connect at my website if I can help - www.joshuarobertsmusic.com/
I can't go to sleep after hearing this incredible version of Collier's version of the Flintstones theme! Josh, you are one hell of a drummer my friend!
Something I love about this is that it reveals the rhythmic subtexts in which Jacob must've been thinking when he wrote all of those shifting rhythms. I love how your percussion lines perfectly nail and reveal all of these contrasting grooves, and give the listener this penny-drop moment of "Oh shit, so THAT'S the rhythm here!" Super fly.
Now THIS is a brilliant cover of a cover. Jacob already owned this cover and you just made his genius THAT much better by adding your groove and that ending tho 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Amazing... Definitely takes an eye for musicianship to really appreciate this! The jazz/gospel drumming is spot on, and I thought it could never be implemented to an already modern jazz acapella. :)
I love how you completely re-contextualise how the beat is perceived in that beginning section. Jacob often writes at a slow meter allowing the complexity of the beat to be subdivisions of single beats rather than whole bars. The way you play at the beginning forces you to 'understand' the music differently, making an already incredible piece of music that much more enjoyable. Thanks!
Granted, this couldn't have been done until this current "modern" time of studio technology but - Damn, what an accomplishment ! This is using recording Tech to it's finest degree. Not to mention the enormously talented & creative drive behind this. Wonderful wonderful wonderful (& cool ) is all you can say ! Bravo !
I didn't know it was possible that a man could groove THAT hard...
Jacob's polyrhythms and shifting time signatures are just mind-blowing, must be blue bloody murder for a drummer to keep up with him.
Werner Erkelens ikr...super difficult
Hey, it's Werner. I just see you everywhere.
have you heard of Black people?
Aiden Curtis I know right? It's like I'm bound to him
one of the most efficient drum performances ive ever seen. everything you play is so low, tight and exact.
0:57 That mid-measure tempo change of a swing is legitimately the most eargasmic thing I've heard in years.
Can we take a second to aknowledge the awesome hihat-centered fisheye shot
That isnt a fisheye lense
@@jllemin4 it’s still a pretty wide angle
@@jwaj nevertheless, a fish eye lense is something else
1:21 that's so pleasant to hear! Falls so great. Great job!
Excellent playing. Excellent concept - to add drums to Jacob's world level arrangement. You are on my new COOL list for sure.
Thanks I appreciate it! Where are you based out of?
YES! Really nice job man.
I come back here every now and then because some years ago this is how I learned about the existence of Jacob.
So: Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
no matter how many times, or where I hear it, that melodica solo gets me every time
Awesome, it's actually an IMPROVEMENT! Unbelievable. I spent so much time listening to the crazy harmonies, I didn't realize how freaking technical the rhythm was until this. Has Jacob seen/commented on it? Betting money he'd LOVE it! Accurate drumming.
7 Years later this is still absolutely amazing !
like how you sat back in the groove on this! gives jacob a lot of room to breathe. really respectful & tastefully done cover! we need more like this!

I can't go to sleep after hearing this incredible version of Collier's version of the Flintstones theme! Josh, you are one hell of a drummer my friend!
I couldn’t leave this page until I watched this THREE times. Smashing job Sir. 👊🏾

Wow!! Every time I listen to this I want to give it another thumbs up!! Masterful job Josh! Much respect!! Subscribed.
Killer dynamics man, and what a fantastic sounding kit! Especially loved that explosive side snare
you know you're doing good when the drums sound like they're actually supposed to be part of the music and when taken away feel incomplete.
_FLEENTSTONES?!_ What a -GRAND DADITION- grand addition of drums to an already outstanding arrangement!
Smooth and incredibly tasteful accompaniment
Oh my god. The sharpness. The groove. The sound. ERRYTHING. I love it

Wow, mind = blown. The arrangement, the kit playing. This was singular...
Nothing like a sensitive and refined drummer. Thanks!
Now THIS is a brilliant cover of a cover. Jacob already owned this cover and you just made his genius THAT much better by adding your groove and that ending tho 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I like how you ended mid-drumming and gave the last "bang" to the vocals with a final answer. Very true and complementary to the original!
This is just absolutely insane Josh! Incredible, kit sounds really nice and stunning licks.. subbed!
your hands are way too good to look at. Your chops are out of this world, dawg. Keep up the good work
Fantastic job!!!
Much precision and sensibility. Amazing!
Actually NOW Jacob's work makes more sense now, if this would be possible. Thanks Josh!

Amazing... Definitely takes an eye for musicianship to really appreciate this!
The jazz/gospel drumming is spot on, and I thought it could never be implemented to an already modern jazz acapella. :)
Incredible ! Perfect drums on this song !
You know it's good when the most replayed part is the beginning 😄👊🔥
Shit yeah, this is fantastic. Grooving, and supportive, without being too showy. Tight as hell. Great stuff
Probably the best jazz cover on youtube. Not even kidding.

Joshua Roberts what kind of music would you consider this?
Drums can't make anything 20 times better. They're just an addition to music.
TheLotanos I like to call it math jazz
