- It's an ol' fashioned Paint Off between our two Studio Painters, Thomas "The Old Vet" Coltau and Steffen "The Young Gun" Aarestrup, as they go head to head in this all out painting extravaganza of BattleTech mechs!
Utilizing the upcoming BattleTech Universe book as inspiration, they face off with the colours of House Kurita and House Davion. Who will win? Which method of painting will come out on top? Let us know in the comments!

Thank you, so much, for showing what your product can do for BattleTech and other 6mm scale models. It's good to know that Army Painter can be used effectively at this scale.
04:14 - main problem with the speedpaint approach are all the white spots that you can easily miss (back of right foot, back of left shin, left knee)
My bday was Yesterday and i get for myself the fanatics bundle of 50 bottles, i love it.
I used the old 1.0 yellow speedpaint to do the Canopian First Cuirssa... Cuirasseers... Cuirassiers!
I preferred the fanatic paints. Got the complete set as i love the coverage. Just wish some of the base colors were darker.
I also use speedpaints but i thin them down with speedlaint medium and use it over the painted colors to darken them a little and smooth out the transitions.
I am a huge fan of using Zealot Yellow and Satchel Brown for my bases. Great paint though.

I'm loving the tutorials.
The chart helped me select the colors I wanted for my second starter set. My first set was from the old range of paint I got it a few years back. I found that a lot of the paints I never even touched. Now with the option of buying singles from the new range, I did a pick and choose of the color I wanted from the chart. I did not hit the hundred dollar mark for free shipping but that is ok. I got the metal colors I wanted and all the colors for my next forty little guys. It is good that you have a color chart. Before I ordered the paint I did not know about the color chart and was running out of Skeleton Bone from the old range . I asked the folks at the online store and after a couple of e-mails I got the answer I was hoping for "yes there is a color match for it in the new line''. I was going to just buy the color match, but after discovering that there was a color chart, I went ahead and ordered a few more colors. There it is my home made starter set. With all the testimonies and positive feed back from the reviewers and community. I feel that I will be satisfied with my new paints. Fingers crossed.

OPR has been releasing some fun undead. Why not pick a few and do beginner friendly versions of all sick and dead skin... yellow, brown, green, red, blue, purple and grey with the fanatic range 😂
Is there a video that shows the theory behind these triads? I'm not an experienced painter, and I'm seeing more and more references to triads.
Basically there's 6 colours in a group labelled darkest to lightest. Then you'll pick 3 of whatever ones you want from lowest to highest that will represent your shadows, midtone, and highlights. So with 1 -> 6 being dark to light you can have your shadows be 1, your midtone be 2, and your highlights be 3. Or you can have your shadows be 2, your midtone be 4, and your highlights be 6. Etc.
It's just a guideline though, free to do whatever you want.

Well I’d go the fanatic way , speed paints are useful to blend in with more traditional tech I think 🤔
This was very, very nice. No offense but the Speedpainted mech just looks unfinished to me. Great starting point but it looks like it just isn't quite done. Also another side note, doe that look like a little bleed through of the red on the Plate Mail Metal, was it dried long enough, or was the metal just a little thin? The whole bleed through issue that I've been hearing does kinda put me off of the Speedpaint range (although I could slap a coat on wait 2+ hours, varnish it to make absolutely sure, and continue on with some standard acrylics). Also the use of SP does kinda have some issues when it comes to painting larger flat surface minis (like tanks in other wargames OR models for that matter).
But since the Warpaints Fanatics really are working well for me so far (only got the three test paints at the moment, but now that the warm weather has finally come might be ordering up some more). Do you folks have some recipes for Dark metallic black armor? Dark crimson red (don't see many colors in the fanatics line that go really dark).

Why would Thomas down play the speedpaints so much? I understand that you’re pushing the fanatics, but why down play your other paints that are equally good?
Thomas wasn't downplaying Speedpaint at all, he was merely trying to paint 5 models in the same amount of time as Steffen painted one. We're just showing the different methods and levels you can paint these models to :)

So what is the real difference between Speed Paint and Air Paint? I’ve seen people put Speed Paint through an air brush, and I’ve seen people use Air Paint with a brush. 🤔
Warpaints Air is regular acrylic paint designed to be used through an airbrush right out of the bottle, whereas Speedpaint is a 3 in 1 solution, giving you a shade, mid-tone, and highlight all in 1 coat when applied over a light basecoat such as white.
