Hey Jon, thanks for the review! One thing to note: our formula for the Washes has actually not changed. We just added more colours. We agree, the Speedpaint Metallics are amazing - however - they are not ideal for dry brushing or other metallic techniques. The Fanatic Metallics borrow some of the tech from their Speedpaint cousins, but have more body for more flexibility and usability for different paint styles and techniques.
@TheArmyPainter You guys really should send Vince Venturella a Complete Set.
@@USALibertarianwe did ;)
@@Pharune616 there are ways of phrasing questions without sounding like a douche.
So picking up a bottle of soft tone or strong tone from the new range it will perfectly match the old ones?
@@Pharune616you can go watch the videos from the development but in short, we listened to feedback from the community who wanted Speedpaint to be more than just a one coat painting solution. The changes we made to 2.0 made it more versatile and stable so it can be used better for glazing, basecoating, and other techniques while still being consistent in behavior as a one coat solution for those who use it that way.
I have to respect Army Painter for listening to feedback and actually making changes. I can't think of many other companies that do that, let alone paint companies.
Yup. I gotta say, it makes me want to buy a box just because I think they seem like pretty great guys and I want to support this sort of thing. I really don't *need* more paints (I'm very happy with ProAcryl and the new Vallejo range), but still. They've been the underdog of the miniature paints industry for years now and they're working hard to better their products, listen to feedback and implement it. And I love that.
Still ain't worth 750 for that BS.
That practical name on the bottle is awesome for us colourblind painters
Yeah listening to that bit now and sounds annoyingly good (ie I don't have the money or space for a full new set!)
Just don’t be colorblind lol
@@robouteguilliman6662 damn. Didn't think of that
@@robouteguilliman6662 dammit, you're right, I was just not putting in the effort to be born with different eyes.
@@jezhunt8394 It’s ok my son. Just give it your best. I’m proud of you.
I don't really need any paints at the moment, or at least I think I don't, but the simple fact that a company listened to their customers and acted on it, when some others don't feel like they do, makes picking some of these up really tempting.
That beginning where all the paints got mixed up when the box sat up was hilarious!
I felt that in my bones 😂
I find it funny that the best thing about this range refresh to me are the additions of the "standard color name" and the "triad designators" on the labels, hoping more paint ranges take notice and add those themselves.
My brother got me the 50 war paint set from Army Painter for Christmas of 2018 to help cope with my grandfather’s death… I still have most of them though I don’t use them as much (Uniform Gray is a great drybrush for rocky bases), but I sort’ve outgrew them. They helped me with my depression and made me get into this hobby so I’ll never say a negative word about old army painter( even if I compare them unfavorably to better lines). Hearing they’ve really upped their game is great. Good on you, Army Painter.
Using an industry standard painting convention on the sides is excellent!
Agreed. Now they just need to put that name on the front and move the silly name to the side.
I've watched so many reviews in this range but Jon did it best. Info on the bottle was the clencher. Ok AP, ill bite.
😬 chomp chomp 😬
Same here! I'm was always a big army painter fan, but with the new paints, they outdid themselves!
I got to try the new Fanatic range at LVO and I absolutely loved it. Whenever I am testing paints I usually just paint a leg or something to get a feel. I ended up sitting down and painting the entire space marine, highlighting the panels, edge highlighting, everything! Can't wait to pick some up! Just gotta save for the complete range 🤘
My favourite miniature painter reviewing the paints I've been waiting for?! YES PLEASE!
You nailed this video! The intro was hilarious, the info was great, and the painting was amazing as always. I preordered the medium sized set right on the first day and am so excited for them.
I look forward to your videos every week. You're my favourite channel and I want to say thank you for how great your content is. ❤️
That start was ****ing brilliant....well done!
Honestly pretty glad that this paint range has come out as good as people say it has. Was great seeing the progress from Army Painter along with their honesty and openness of their failings in the past.
I don't really need the paints but it's hard for me not to want both this set and the spped paints 2.0.
They truly are a completely new company product wise since the speed paint range and it's really good to see.
Plus ontop of all the effort they have put in the paint range hasn't exploded in price and is still one of the more affordable hobby paints in the industry.
Just great work Army Painter.
Thank you for giving us an honest review pointing out both the good and bad.
Dude, Intro was PERFECT 🤣
After a not so great day, I honestly laughed my arse off at the first 20 seconds of this video - cheers for brightening my mood. Very much appreciated.
Rest of the video is good as well.
This was the review I was waiting for! Granted I pre-ordered the complete set right away on January 15th, I have still been eagerly watching videos of other painters to see what they have been able to accomplish.
This is the best review I've seen on this paint range yet fantastic vid!
Awesome review! now I most definitely will pick up a few colors and I’m at the shop
Hi all, I’ve got GW, Vallejo, and army painter sets. Been doing miniatures for some 20 years now, and I most say that each company has its strengths, but lately in all honesty AP is my go to 😊. Thanks Jon for the detailed description and practical applications!!!
Thanks. Your videos are awesome. Love your, humor and painting style! Have a great weekend.
As a colorblind this 6 color gradient information helps a lot! haha
i got my complete set pre ordered, and will be still using the og warpaints line in the airbrush. Thanks for the video!
Love the opening. Won't be buying a boxed set, but might look for strengthening individual colours where I have weaker Citadel, Vallejo or AK paints.
Love the review! I usually work with mostly Monument Hobbies, but I have been looking for some new paints. I think I will try some Army Painter.
Great paint job.
Solid review.
Thanks.
Thanks for the review! Great job!
This is, by far, the best review I've seen for the new Fanatic line. I am super excited to get my grubby paws on some more of the line.
What a top notch review. Thanks for your insights.
Love your work. One of the best painting you tubers out there as far as I'm concerned.
This was a really good overview. I love the line of speed paint and have only dabbled in their normal paints. Gonna pick up some more now.
I rewatched the first 15 seconds like a million times. Felt that in my soul... Every time I don't latch my tool box correctly...
Thanks for doing the paint playtesting!
thanks heaps Jon, a great video and appreciate your objective testing and honest opinion.
While I have never painted a gaming miniature, I do build scale models and have learned so much from you that I never would have learned in the scale model world. ... just wanted to say Thanks.
Another scale modeler here. I dove into the mini-painting video world about 2 years ago. My painting has improved a lot in that time.
Great review. I've watch a lot of review videos for this new paint range and yours was excellent. I'm very excited about the new paints and am switching from GW paints to the new army painter paints next month when their released.
A great overview and review of these paints. I am definitely looking forward to testing one of the smaller sets when they become available later this year. I also noticed that you were using the Tamiya thinner for the airbrush. That immediately caught my attention, as I hadn't considered it as a basic thinner for the airbrush outside of when I have sprayed specific Tamiya paints. Now I am wondering whether it might play well with Stynlyrez Primer!
Great video. I really like the design of the bottles (practical name, color value vs similar color, etc.) This should be the new standard.
I get genuine enjoyment out of your videos. Hands down the only painter I watch that can make me legitimately laugh out loud.
The Vallejo air brush metallics are awesome for mini painting with a brush. Real smooth.
Honestly Iv been slowly leaning toward army painter, I got there speed paint 2.0 and Iv enjoyed using it on certain pieces. So I’m definitely going to save up for this box, looking forward to getting this eventually!
Thanks for the review Jon! I was already in when Vincy V did a rather positive review, but your opinion does hold high value as well, so I appreciate another thought of confidence in my buying of the full set as my hobby groups new big paint set. Glad I still have Pro A for my own browns to mix in lol
If I didn’t already have a couple of thousand dollars invested into Citadel paints, I’d definitely be going with this range
Oh man. The first 15 seconds was worth the watch! I laughed so hard. Thanks Jon!
This video has finally sold me on the fanatic range. I have to try this stuff out
Been waiting for this review ever since I learned about the new Army Patiner line, and you did not disappoint!
Man, I love your intros! Thank for the review!
I recently thought about getting back into the hobby and start painting again. Stumbled across this video and the huge color variety. Saw the price and wiped the idea of getting back into the hobby immediately. 😀
Look for vid "make 168 colours from 5 colours"
That's a very helpful review with a lot of information and insight! I hope TAP can deliver constant quality with this paints. When I tried their old color line, every fourth or fifth color was completely unusable.
Super happy with the speed paint 2.0's caused me to buy this set. Now I just gotta wait till march for mine. Tubrodork is relaunching their new formula with new bottles too on the 14th. So many new paints to buy!
Every single one of the turbo dork paints are the worst paints ever created. Sure, they can look cool. But all 30+ bottles of my Turbo Dork paint are solid clumps beneath white goop. They are all unusable. Meanwhile, Vallejo paints from years earlier are still perfect. Not to mention how many of the Turbo Dork bottles fail dumping paint all over everything.
Turbo Dork really sucks. Not worth the cost for their paints, use different chromatic blend companies, I think Tamiya makes some.
@@FercPolo It's a known that their first wave a paints had a issue with their formula when it was exposed to near freezing tempatures. They customer service replaced all my bottles that had the issue you described with zero issues or cost to me. I hope their new formula has removed this problem like they said.
That gave me a good chuckle this morning.
Great detailed review! Making it a tough arguement not to get them with the amount of details on the bottle, especially the scale! 😄
If I hadn't spent a ton on Pro Acryl, Vallejo, and Citadel then I would have probably bought these. I started on Army Painter and they used to be horrible so I'm glad to see them step up to the plate finally. Their speed paints are great for sure.
Exactly the same! Started with old AP and nearly quit all
Together. Have since invested a lot in other brands and in speedpaints (1 & 2).
Same with my Tamiya like it's a great paint at a good value and size.
Thanks for the review, really appreciated :)
Really interesting video. Those paint labels are such a nice idea
Lots of good info, and love the look of that marine.
Great opening, Jon. One of the best yet.
Love the intro; Same thing happened to me when I ordered the complete air set a year ago lol
I look forward to try it out. 🖌
Great review Ninjon.. 😊
Ive been waiting for this video for a while
I'll have to check these paints out!
Not likely to switch from my Pro Acryl, but it's exciting to have a good option to fill any gaps I might encounter.
my thoughts exactly
Thanks for the review! Ive been watching your content for quite a while now and was really curious to what you´ld say to the fanatics range. Thx again. Cant wait till the Complete set gets here (yeah i boarded the hype train :D )
3:55 props on emphasizing that paint preference is also a thing of personal style. That should be included in any paint review.
Wondering if you tested the metallics with the "stabilizer" medium included and if they perform better than when using water to thin them.
Amazing vid man. Def gonna save up for this
Great review Cheers👍
Hey Jon, pretty excited to see your overall feel for these paints. I have the complete set on order, and I am disappointed to hear about the lack of some warm browns because I like to use those for leather. Do you have a favorite set of warm browns you recommend? I'm looking at the newer game color line from Vallejo as a potential option to replace my paints that are more than 5 years old at this point.
Great points on the labels, I really like what they did there. I also find most brands have an overly large label, it would help a lot if more of the actual color was showing through. Also, I wonder how you compare them to other brands.
I'm also for smaller label showing the color and level of its separation in the bottle...
The intro was enough to keep me invested for the entire video.
Awesome work!
Thank you so much for this review. After a couple of decades of painting, I would up favoring Vallejo above the other ranges, but this makes me really want to try out some of this new Armypainter range. Any product that can keep me away from GW's range is a good thing in my books.
Interesting to see that AP has improved the quality of their pigment. I can't see myself dropping several hundred on a box though, when my paint shelf is already over-full. I might get a few of these here and there to fill a few gaps.
Nice, will pick up a few colors to give them a go.
The color identification is brilliant.
These seem incredible!
When I started I didn’t know anything and just picked Army Painter War paints. I haven’t tried any other lines, as part of these reviews I kept hearing how difficult the original paints are to work with compared to other lines. Ended up preordering this complete set. I wonder how eye opening they will be when I get to try them!
12:20 Have you tried the Vallejo Metallics Air line? I'd assume they're closer to the Speedpainter line, but I find they're a fantastic consistency, color, and coverage. Also they make a metallic black that's hard to beat!
I didn't think they changed the washes. You are the first one I've heard say it's different.
I think the part I do like the most is the advanced triad system, it just allows you to easily find your shadows and highlights.
Their effect paints also really interest me.
Cemented my decision. Thank you.
I'm a lot poorer now....but same lol
Hi, it's me. You did it, you finally convinced me to buy some AP paints. To you Army Painter folks...congratulations, this will be your most successful period yet.
Jon, you're describing Monument's Transparent White when you ask for pure white glaze. Just saying.
"Transparent White" is basically a standard pigment known as Zinc White (or as Schmincke calls it, "Mixing White"), so I'm a bit surprised Jon mentioned something like that as if it's fairytales (: hopefully he'll find out soon, he's in for a fun surprise
I approached the review! Thanks and never chang that intro vid lol
I can definitely say the new paints are pretty dang good
I've been so excited for these paints since I heard about them. I have been holding off on buying any new paints because Ive been wanting to get these. But its looking like I wont be able to get my hands on these for a couple months. I keep seeing reviews but no one seems to be selling these things until april. Looks like Ill end up buying some valejo so I can get some paint projects started.
I am obsessed with hobby paints and would love to have this set.
I have been trying to get my hands on this set for a while. I have their older set and love the speedpaint set. Hopefully I can grab a set at Adepticon this year.
Now now that I’m sold( I still have and paint with the OG Army paint from the Covid Era) tell me about paint organizing and desk set up. I’m almost moved into my house and can’t wait to paint again
Hoping the full release includes sets of triads so I can just get the stuff I need, but seriously considering these paints. Just getting back into the hobby after years away so I've got a clean slate, and the common names and triad system is absolutely ideal for those of us who are colourblind.
Thats a beautiful space marine!
LOL at the opening.. been there done that.
Looks like a good set of paints!
Thanks jon!
I can't wait to pick up these paints
I Pre-ordered the set but it will only be released on march 16,can't wait to try them out!
Too many of my go-to hobby creators have recommended this range now. I think I'm finally ready to fully commit to a range.
Gotta say, all that bottle labling is amazing. And I'm stunned it wasn't already a thing for all manufacturers. Can't believe I just bought a large number of paints! And most are Citadel...
As a fairly new painter like a month into it. I wish I found you sooner. I’m considering this set as well but that price tag hurts 😂. Thank you for the information
That man is hilarious. Gotta love Jon !
I know that feeling from the opening. My kids did that with a freshly sorted box of perler beads. I almost feel like it needs a trigger warning. 😂
