• 2019 Ram 1500 5.7L - T...
With so much new competition in the hottest segment here in America, FCA invested heavily in the next-generation Ram 1500 for 2019. Part of that investment involved a huge commitment to improving fuel efficiency so for 2019, Ram is offering 2 new eTorque mild hybrid powertrains. Ram says it will improve efficiency by up to 10% and offer up an additional 90-130 ft.lbs of torque instantly, to help spin up the gas engine after the idle/stop function kicks in. The result is a truck that has improved acceleration versus the non-eTorque engine AND the next generation of start/stop technology. Buyers looking to keep 8-cylinders under the hood and enjoy better MPG should put the new Ram at the top of their list.
Dear Redline Reviews, thank you so much for showcasing the front and rear led lights and turn signals. Something so small is often overlooked by many reviewers, and it only takes a few seconds to do.
Thought I was the only one 😂
@@timcui388 me too! Love it
Nathan Jacobson Absolutely agreev. If not, then why are many car manufacturers trying so hard to have their vehicles have distinct LED headlights and rear lights? And yes, even turn signals.
There's a very good reason for the chrome on the front of most trucks. Once you get your painted front full of rock chips and dulled from other road debris you will appreciate a big chrome grill and front bumper.
Just test drove a Limited the other day and it’s absolutely fantastic. Feels like a luxury sedan.
I ordered a Limited with Ram Boxes, etorque motor, sunroof, tonneau cover, four wheel drive, etc... it’ll be here in two weeks. I’ve been waiting for close to two months now! My package came to 72k. A lot of money for a truck, but my motto is you only live once! Can’t wait for it to arrive! Thanks for the video. Helped explain a lot for me so I’ll know what to look for in mine..
Great review and you are right on the money. I traded my 2016 RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn on a 2019 Ram 1500 LIMITED. I have a little of over 5,000 miles on the 2019. Just the quietest , smoothest running and most comfortable truck I've ever owned. It tows my 4500 lb boat with ease. I still can't believe how far Dodge, now RAM has come with the quality of their trucks. Prior to purchasing the 2019 RAM LIMITED, I test drove a Tundra Platinum (I've owned 2 Tundras previously) and GMC Denali 6.2. Both of those trucks were pretty well loaded but neither came close to the quality and the ride of the RAM !
For anyone curious, the little lever on the back seats you saw when he flipped up the seats, is so you can recline the seats at a 9 degree angle! It doesn't sound like a whole lot, but it really makes the difference when on long drives :)
Chevy trucks have always been the only trucks we’ve had in my family but I’m about to break my dads heart and switch it up. Sorry pops!!! It’s time for a change!! These new Rams are just too sexyyyyyy.
Sexy as it may be, but can you deal with it reliability??
@@johnnguyen2723 I'm not a brand loyalty car guy but one of my coworker has well over 200k on his 2005 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. My assistant manager has about 120k with very little issue but it's mainly wear and tear.
@@mrjjthor older Rams can be reliable but I'm not so sure about these etorque models.
@@snazari1994 only time will tell.
Rams have the worst reliability
In addition to giving start-stop, eTorque also permits more 4 cylinder operation. Overall, I think Ram choosing to focus their money on making a great truck and (largely) leaving their competitive powertrains alone, with a few refinements, was a great play. I assume we'll see some powertrain updates in a couple years.
I personally find Start-stop technologies to be extremely annoying and unnecessary
I disagree. A motor company should be first and foremost about building great motors and constantly moving forward power trains. So what has Ram done in the last seven years or so except but for one diesel option that they bought from another manufacturer and an 8-speed that got off the market from someone else and tweaking the Hemi to include DI? More recently, what have they done with an all-new pickup with respect to power trains with an all-new design. Yeah; they've got an all-new truck body and frame. They did some good work in that regard, but lets compare doing almost nothing to power trains to what Ford has done and what GM is doing in their all-new truck:
2012 - Ford offers first downsized gas turbo engine offered in the segment as an option for their customers and took away only a gas-guzzling 6.2L V8 that's best suited for the Super Duty. The new engine provided competitive horsepower and superior torque than their own and competitive V8s and better estimated mpg as compared to any V8 for customers who might want this new option, but they left a quite capable V8 and base engine as the bread and butter choices for their customers as the Ecoboost gains acceptance for reliability and performance.
2015 - All new platform that cut up to 700 pounds from the previous edition pickup, which will give them the payload advantage for the foreseeable future. Carried over the V8 and 3.5L Ecoboost from the previous edition, but came out with an all-new base engine and an all-new additional optional engine in a second downsized turbo that would now not only lead all other gas-powered power trains for full size trucks but actually meet or beat all mid-size truck mpg; even compared to 4 cylinder mid-sized trucks; and that's with 325 peak rated horsepower and 375 ft-lb torque @ 3,000 RPM.
2017 - All new 3.5L Ecoboost now mated to an all-new ten speed transmission; now with 375 rated horsepower and 470 ft-lb torque while simultaneously achieving mpg above all competitors' gas-powered power trains; even better than base V6s from GM and Ram @ 18/25/21, versus 18/24/20 and 17/25/20, respectively in peak mpg form and that's with 165 more ft-lb torque than GM and 191 more ft-lb than Ram and at a lower RPM
2018 - All gas engines get dual fuel injection. All except the 3.5L Ecoboost (the only carryover from 2017) improve performance and FE simultaneously. The base engine, once again is all new and class leading mpg. All-new PSD V6 with up to 30 mpg highway (a 1/2-ton first). The 2.7L Ecoboost extends it's lead on the competition for best gas-powered mpg for a full size truck while increasing torque by 25 and coming in 250 RPM lower, and all except the new base engine get mated to the 10-speed transmission.
Until now, GM likewise had been sitting on their laurels except for a higher-geared eight speed and DI, but the 2019 will bring a ten speed; dynamic fuel management; an all-new GM designed and built I6 Duramax diesel; an all-new first-offering 4 cylinder GDI engine with 348 ft-lb torque at 1500 RPM; start stop; and all of this in an all new platform that cuts up to double the weight of the new Ram.
So Ford MOTOR company has about 8 or 9 major advancements to power trains since at or about 2011. GM is bringing in four major power train advancements with an all-new pickup that moves them right up with Ford except for the fact that they'll limit most of their advancement for just some of their customers, whereas Ford tends to offer up all their advanced power trains at all price levels. Ram answers with eTorque; an old technology that's an auxiliary component system. For power trains, that's it! And it's not as if they recently did a lot of power train work with the previous truck. Moreover, they've eliminated regular cabs. So why is it that so many people are bragging on Ram as if they've accomplished something great? They're supposed to be a motor company for goodness sake, and the domestic competition has moved miles ahead and everyone is bragging on the all-new Ram with all old guts. People are criticizing the new Silverado due to something like a "polarizing front end style" and "inferior interior". Why are Americans focused on such silly attributes when it comes to a pickup truck when the real story should be that GM has moved forward as a motor company with their 1/2-ton pickup (good); eliminating the RCSB (bad); and offering nothing new with respect to power trains to the low end trims (bad). Well, with respect to Ram, at least they can hang their hat on the fact that they've done much more than the Asian manufacturers. I'll give them that much. A Tundra 4 WD with no-better-than-the-competition performance and capability gets as low as 16 mpg in the combined rating. Absolutely embarrassing. This is not 1995.
Thanks for talking about the sound system. A lot of vehicle reviewers just brush over the sound but I feel like a lot of buyers care about a vehicles sound quality. Please keep up the good reviews and make sure to include a bit about the sound system! 👍
I think manufactures should do this more ! I personally want a bigger vehicle as a daily, but the average ones out there aren't good with gas mileage.
Ram “lower” tier screen is the 2nd best screen in any truck.
Anyone else thinking for the price of trucks the interior quality always should’ve been this nice? Nonetheless, it’s nice to see trucks are actually becoming nice while still being functional.
That Rams since 2011 have been nice.
2011 ram loaded with leather was 26k out the door. These new ones are $15-20k off MSRP but that still makes them double what they were a few years ago. They better be nice inside
@@MrPland1992 You're talking right out your ass my friend, the MSRP for a 2011 Ram Larmie was $42,000, a fully loaded longhorn was $51,000.
If there's going to be more electrification, I would like to see more mild hybrids from automakers. If the mustang hybrid has a V8/mild hybrid combo, that would be sweet IMO. Better performance, same great exhaust note, better fuel economy

I have *never* been a Fiat-Chrysler or Ram guy. In fact, I've always pretty much hated the brand. BUT this new Ram is the very first FCA product that I would not hesitate to buy. I've owned GM and Nissan trucks (I will never buy GM again, but I love Nissan), but I am honestly astonished by how nice this truck is and would definitely own one. FCA has had its share of issues with quality over the years, but this new Ram shows that they know where their bread is buttered. Trucks and SUVs are the cash cows of the industry and the Ram is now the truck to beat. Excellent review as always, Sofyan.
It will rattle and creek you to death. Takes about 6 months, but it will happen.
Well u a clown lol
The interior is by far better than the Silverado!😱
the best interior in the pickup truck class
Engine is refined . I like how it does 3000 to 5000 rpm seemingly effortlessly .
Why you filiming this wearing boxers?

Have to have downs to spend 80k plus on a truck in 2018.
This was filmed about ten minutes from where I live. I wasn't expecting that!
Thanks as always for the review. You and Doug DeMuro are must see for car enthusiasts
Nah... this guy is really boring and Doug acts like every car isnt good enough. Also trashes mainstream cars for doing things but applauds luxury brands for the same things. But that's just my opinion. Straightpipes is my go to
The 1/4 ton truck have come along way in everything they can do, and luxury comfort. Truly, any one of them today is pretty awesome! Nice review!
I have a 17 quad cab long bed. I get 16.9 in city and got 22.6 on a 1100 mile loop from PA to KY. My truck has the hemi with 3.92 gears. I do have 17" wheels which seem to help a little.
Damn I have the 15 and I get 15.5 if I let off a little
Rams have always been the best looking trucks to me, good they're continuing their ideal looks.
Dude you must have been bugging my phone, I just told my Uncle the exact same thing. I have 7 Chevy's between my garage and driveway right now between muscle cars, pickups and hybrids, and its all I've ever known. I took the Chevy pledge to never set foot outside the pack, BUT.....I can get the all-new Ram 1500 for what a dealership near my house is asking for a used 2015 2500 Silverado High Country. Yes the Chevy is Bigger, but no where near as roomy, I mean this guy almost stood up in the back seat, and no where as sexy....so glad I waited before pulling the trigger on a Chevy.
Mopar rules!
I honestly love all 3 trucks for different reasons but chevy has always had the cheapest interior of the 3.
Why the hell anyone would buy a Chevy is beyond me.
For peace of mind with all of the electronics, I opted for an extended bumper to bumper warranty on my 2020 1500 Laramie. Standard B2B is 3 year 36,000 miles. At purchase, I got a transferable B2B 5 year 100,000 miles extended warranty for $2,300 plus $60 tax. Don't know if you mentioned it, but one function of eTorque is engine speed matching during up and down shifts on the 8 speed transmission, making the power delivery buttery smooth and you don't need a 10 speed. The eTorque device looks bolt on and easy to replace.
Your complaining about v8 for being a v8
@pmerk36 what? No v12?! Blasphemy! /s
Ram changed the truck game
That's a nice looking truck especially in red
Great review. I love the high attention to the details of the mild hybrid. Great job !! I hope you keep doing these as your reviews are the best I have seen. I bought a Ram E torque and it is a great system, exactly as you described. Now I see why the Ram is #1 and the GMC is #4 in the segment.
shame on Ram for letting you review this beauty with those shorts!
Nice! I really like the idea of having mild hybrid pickups!
That definitely adds another level of advancement...
I totally want to start reviewing pickup trucks soon! Keep up the great work, Sofyan.
My 2017 Silverado 5.3 has the e-assist which is pretty much the same as the Ram e-torque only it makes 13hp and 44ftlb of torque. Driving my friends 2016 Silverado 5.3 I cannot feel a difference and our mpg is about the same. I have the 8spd and he has the 6spd. Both are LT crew cab 4wd.
@@mrjjthor, That's very interesting. Even with the inclusion of the 8-speed automatic transmission, you still get the same mpg numbers?
I would love to see a comparison between the Silverado e-assist and the Ram e-torque, though!
@@DriveAndBeDriven Yes. My friend also keeps track of his mpg calculated by hand. I do the same also. Our mpg are very similar on average. We both get around 16-17mpg city and 20-22mpg highway.
If I was in the market for a full sized truck, this is what I would pick.
mrjjthor Thor Swap vehicle’s for a week and repeat. That has to be because of differences in driving styles.
This truck is really tempting, but I'm curious to see how their value holds up over time. Ram is notorious for losing it's value (and qc issues to boot).
I would be hard pressed to not buy another Tundra, but Dodge is doing a good job of catching my eye with the new model. It's a great looking truck and that interior is amazing.
All trucks hold their value well providing you don't hold onto them for more than 3 years. To be honest it doesn't make much sense to hold on to modern vehicles for longer than that anyways.
This truck is the new standard for half ton trucks. Hands down.
Hey I have those same boxers!! That aside, I really like the new RAM. I had a '14 1500 but upgraded to a '16 2500 Cummins for ease of towing so I'm eager to see when they update the heavy duty trucks.
Heavy Duty trucks will now get a 4 cylinder engine with 20 turbos and a 50 speed transmission, and for added power for going up hills it'll come with an optional 2 squirrel powered motor.
Ford man here, gotta say I really like the way these new Rams look.
The styling of the new Ram is growing on me for sure. :)
Best pick up trucks out there right now. I've owned a 2012 Sport 1500 Hemi and I now drive a 2015 Mega 6.7. These trucks have been awesome with no mechanical issues other than the DEF pump taking a shit at 60,000 miles.
Love the new ring congratulations

I love my RAM etorque, it took a little getting used to but now that I’ve driven it a little it’s hands down better than the F150 I was driving for around 6 years. I had the 5.0 in the Ford and now the 5.7 with etorque and the power is instantly noticeable. Great truck and awesome standard features with all sorts of add on’s are available.

I don't even like this truck but you do such a good job reviewing and presenting the information I just end up watching the entire video. Kind of disappointing that you compared the power to the 5.3 engine. Those engines are very slow, always thought the 5.7 hemi was a pretty fast engine

With FCA reliability....might want to hold off of purchasing the first three model years with this tech!
G. Warren you would want to do that with just about any brand. people really need to stop hating on FCA.
3 years?? Maybe the first year
G. Warren It's the same power plant they've been using for years. I think we kniw what reliability will be like.
Hold off purchasing one completely and you'll be farther a head.
G. Warren I'd just never recommend getting the first year new model with any vehicle… the 5.7 V8 and tranny are proven to be very good, but I mean there are so many new little features...
and that's exactly why I'm struggling so bad bc I don't know if I want the old one or the new one
You completely lost me when you said the Hemi is comparable to the 5.3. Having spent quite a bit of time with both engines there is no comparison. The 5.7 has around 50 more horsepower and you can feel all of them. It also pulls really well from around 3200 RPM up to redline. 5.3 is a good reliable engine but I don’t think you know what you are talking about.
I used to be a subsciber, until he started pulling facts and opinions out of his back side.
I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But Wow!! is that a beautiful truck!
Everyone is complaining that this isn't a "a real truck" but most of the people buying trucks at this price point are using it to move groceries and help a friend move once every other year and are more concerned about the interior.
GM / Ram make a work version of all of their trucks and that's what people buy when they really need a workhorse. this truck is not for that lol
$64k for a 1500? It's a beautiful truck but what is the world coming to..
Again, more whining about price.
These trucks are gaining popularity with people interested refinement, luxury, modern technology, and they want no compromise is truck capability. That all costs money, and plenty of people have the money to spend. This is the truck they desire. What's wrong with that and why does mean the world is coming to anything? If you want a cheaper truck, go buy a base model or mid-level trim. With incentives, even a nicely equipped truck will 1/2 a $64,000 suggested price. There is truck for almost anyone.
You have to remember that none of the traditional luxury brands have pick up trucks. For buyers who can afford luxury but want a Pick up, it also has to function as their luxury car.
They still offer base model trucks for a fraction of the price. Stop complaining.
That's cause Automotive journalists force automotive manufacturers to add luxury and technology standard for even their very base models. It's not about having just enough comfort and ac reliable truck but just the bragging right to have a fully loaded vehicle to show off to your passengers. Most people don't buy vehicles for themselves anymore, they buy vehicles with extra features just to impress friends and riders. Soon or later, base model in a couple years going be a fully loaded this year and the avg man would struggle to buy them.
Stevorn Richards So you're saying a base model will have massaging seats and cost $64,000 in a couple years?
...Damn, you people are dumb. 😐
Best truck interior I have seen in any market! Looks premium, and more like a German or Sweedish interior.
22mpg on the highway? I’ve been able to get 27.4 on my 2015 Silverado w/ the 5.3. That’s with cruise set at 70, warm temps, and flat to mildly hilly terrain on a 300+ mile drive. More often I’ve experienced +25mpg highway and about 20 in combined driving. I tend to accelerate reasonably, and do try to save gallons as much as possible without going so slowly that I impede other traffic. Etourque might be an advantage, but my six speed bow tie does just fine. No doubt the interior on the truck in this video is far more plush, but I paid about 20k less than the sticker on this beast and got 4wd, Z71, the LT3 equipment pack, and more. Just sayin.
Just bought (Sept 2024) a 2019 RAM 1500 Longhorn, loaded with all options EXCEPT eTorque. It took me a long time to find one WITHOUT the gimmicky eTorque. It doesn't add power or reduce 0-60 times, it seems like it's there mainly to facilitate the Stop/Start and a few other minor things. There are some good vids that describe it properly, and once you learn about it, you'll begin to wonder why they ever made it. It appears troublesome, expensive to repair, and it can ONLY be serviced by the dealer. I predict eTorque will end up being disliked by many (if not most) owners.
Also you said the Etorque system which is just another liablity to go wrong costs $1500? Which I'm assuming they expect the customer to pay out of ignorance... Say you get the truck with 100k mile warranty (best case scenario) and you ALWAYS got 20mpg or the added +2mpg.. you would use 5000 gallons of fuel in the course of that 100k miles which at the current price of roughly $3 per gallon is $15,000. So +2 mpg or 10% of 20mpg (again best case scenario) it saves you .... Wait for it.... $1500... So basically best case scenario is you break even over 100k Miles assuming it doesn't cause you any trouble and assuming they give you 100k mile warranty for free which I'm pretty sure it's like an extra $1500... So you'd be wasting $1500... God I hate corporation trying to trick ordinary hard working people. ... GREAT REVIEW THOUGH!!
I hate when people cherry pick, twist or play with numbers to the benefit of their argument. What you did was add an extended warranty to make the Etorque system seem worthless in 100,000 miles, as if you can't drive the thing any further than that. Also 100,000 miles is what most truck owners put on in less than 7 years. Why is that a big deal? At least it actually does pays for itself, given that is reliable, while also adding power. If you're just concerned about the system reliability, fine. The system has not proven itself reliable, but it also hasn't proven unreliable either. You're just scaring people and projecting a more costly ownership than you can support with fact. If someone is willing to take a little risk, they could find the extra $1,500 to be well worth it in the end. In theory, it is.
The Etorque system isn't just meant to save fuel, it also adds a little power. If you don't question someone paying $1,500 for a larger engine, why question someone paying $1,500 extra for an electric assist that not only adds MPG, it also adds power?
Just think I'm not cherry picking numbers I'm being extremely gracious considering Kia is the only standard 100k Mile warranty car company. So at best it won't be covered in 100k miles. And if you know anything about cars the first generation always has the most problems: look at the 2007 -2011 Jeep Wrangler , it's absolute garbage!

Why would Dodge ruin a sport package with chrome wheels? If you are wanting to delete all that chrome from the body you also want to delete if from the wheels....It would save the owner from having to plasti-dip the wheels but the interior is SWEET!
Zecro67 agreed. It’s kind of ridiculous that the Canadians get a truly sport package, with black rims and blacked out badges but that is not available in America.
Zecro67 yeah my 2017 is either all body color or blacked out. Still love it.
Everyone quit saying "just buy the base model" who wants the base model guys. It's usually full of plastic bumpers and plain. Trucks prices are out of control no matter what trim you get. A mid model truck 15 years ago was far less 35k for a CC 4x4.
I really wish dodge would put the 392 in a truck! I wouldnt even hesitate to buy one!! I dont understand why dodge only offers the 5.7!
They should throw the 6.2L Turbocharged V8 in the 3/4 ton Ram as the standard engine, no other option. Want a truck buy a truck with a real engine. If you worry about gas mileage you shouldn't be buying a truck period.
@@wildbill23c exactly!!...thank you!...lol!
Ive always said the same thing. How come I cant get the big heavy ass truck with the 6.4 they put in chargers and jeeps and durangos? The 5.7 is to weak for a truck so heavy if you want a mildly fast truck. It also needs the 6.2 supercharged from the hellcat and redeye.
@@sergeysmelnik More than likely because a high compression high performance engine in a truck that a lot of people will pull stuff with is a recipe for disaster. I could see it as maybe an option on the very top models where the demographics of buyers just use them to drive and maybe pull a boat.
The ram 1500 needs the 6.4 and 6.2 supercharged option. Nobody is talking about the 2500... All 3 ford motors are more powerful in their f150 so is the chevy lt1. The 5.7 is lagging behind and should be the low end option.
You sound like a peasant who already bought a ram with a 5.7 and is trying to justify his purchase and telling yourself it's good enough. Going as far as calling people idiots for wanting a more powerful option. Do you understand what an option means? You can still keep your precious underpowered 5.7.

As a Chevy salesman I wanna say a couple of things. We just received our first 2019 Silverado and I of course took it for a drive. Build quality and drive quality is up to par with the competition. HOWEVER, I'm pissed off with the direction that GM is taking with the Silverado. You can buy a Silverado cheaper than the competition. Unfortunately that means that some options are missing in the Silverado. Automatic braking? Not available at any price. the worst offense though is satellite radio. YOU HAVE TO OPTION THE TRUCK WITH BUCKET SEATS TO GET SATELLITE RADIO! I have an RST edition truck on my lot for $50K THAT DOESN'T HAVE SATELLITE RADIO! I hope I'm wrong but I don't see how I'm gonna get Ford,Ram, and Toyota loyalists to to buy a Chevy.
I prefer the look of the new Silverado but the fact that they have a 4 cyl turbo (although a huge 4 cyl I'll admit) kinda has me worried even though the trq numbers are right along the V8s from a generation or two ago. This etourqe system seems to be an electric assist more than anything and thatll help reduce wear on the starting system as this electric motor seems to replace that. Super nice looking truck, the local dealer finally got some ram rebels with this system in it.
chevy has the worst looking truck made fuck that
That's a nice looking truck but that dial gear shifter is a deal breaker. No way I would want to take my eyes that far off of my line of sight to turn a dial. That doesn't even seem safe. And I won't forget the huge smile and bursts of laughter when you hit the throttle during the Ford F150 2.7 Eco Boost review you did. I actually bought one of those and it is a beast. In sport mode it is insane. I had a Ram though a couple years ago and it was a good truck. Have had several of them actually. Was not a fan of the coil spring rear on my last one as it would collapse under load. Was not an issue in my dually Ram 3500 Cummins though with traditional springs. Anyway keep up the good reviews and thanks for helping me make the decision to buy the F150 2.7. Loved that review. In general.
eTorque is just plain ridiculous, having a secondary motor to boost your primary motor for 2 mpg better will never cover the cost of the option or the money when it breaks. You say it gives me more power starting well unless your at the drag strip you do not need extra power over the 5.7 hemi. Like i said RIDICULOUS.......
It's for shifts and the start stop. The new Ram is basically a luxury vehicle. Making the shifts and start/stop undetectable would be a step in that direction.
Newton Washinton according to ram e torque has a free 100k mile warranty but I still don’t think it’s worth the 1500 for just 2 mpg
Firstly, just like all the complainers about the F150 gas turbo engine options; it's simply that; these advanced and/or different power trains are just options; no one is taking anything away from any would-be buyer who may be scared of specific technologies used to boost performance without sacrificing FE, so I'm not sure why enthusiasts get upset with manufacturers offering more options for people with different tastes, needs or likes when it doesn't affect them personally unless they want it to. With respect to Ford and the F150, there are two trim levels and one version that do actually lock one in to a turbo engine (Platinum, Limited, and Raptor; although Platinum is now available with the PSD option), but this occurred over time after it was determined through time that all the dooms day, sky-is-falling scenario would not occur simply because a pickup truck has a downsized turbo charged gas engine in it. But many, many F150 buyers either own a V6 or V8 naturally-aspired-powered pickup truck, and those engines can be had in four out of six trim levels. With respect to Ram, a base-engine buyer will have to take the eTorque, but Ram will let someone upgrade to a Hemi without eTorque at any trim level for a decent premium, so it's not really forced on anyone. The other three domestic brands are forcing customers in to start-stop. F150 has start stop on all power trains; even the diesel, and from what I've heard, so too will GM.
Secondly, there is no primary motor and secondary motor. This is not a hybrid; it's a mild hybrid. This type of mild hybrid actually just uses a generator instead of an alternator to operate a more seamless and powerful start-stop system as opposed to what Ford and GM are using that are traditional battery/alternator systems with a auxiliary transmission pump and a few other hardware and software components to operate a start-stop system without extra batteries or power requirement. Those systems actually crank and spin the starter upon restart, which is slightly unnerving, but with the e-Torque, there is no electric motor as we think of a motor that turns wheels directly. The generator system also has the ability to provide just a bit of torque to the serpentine belt as an added benefit, which is where the extra torque comes from and is being overhyped by Ram. I've got a 2007 Saturn Aura with this exact type of system except that it's 36-volt instead of 48-volt. I'm not a huge fan of this system, but only because I think it's a lot of extra complication and cost with very little benefit with respect to FE. My mid-sized car has a 2.4L 4 cylinder and this starter-generator system, and I get around 29 mpg measuring tank-to-tank in rural driving mostly highway and around 32 pure commuting in warm weather; probably less than a Camry or Accord 4 cylinder. This system adds weight and that probably cancels some of the city improvement on the highway. In the Ram it's 90 or 110 pounds depending on which engine, and from my experience, it only helps with fuel economy in so far as how much fuel one can save with a shut down engine in traffic. I don't think Saturn's system aids in shifting, but still I'm skeptical of any added benefit dealing purely with FE, but there are other benefits to this system that customers might appreciate as compared to a more traditional system for start-stop. I've also got an F150 with the traditional start-stop system, and the Saturn, though almost nine years older, is much quicker and much more seamless with regards to the start-stop operation. The start up and shut down are so quick and quiet one can barely tell it's happened, whereas the F150 system actually results in the cranking and spinning of the starter upon restart; but in the end, with respect to FE, they both have the same effect, which is very little for most drivers in the real world. The reliability has already proven better with the starter-generator type in the Saturn versus the F150. The Saturn had a recall on the hybrid batteries after about a year, and so over ten years with the same batteries and no other part of the system replaced or a single hiccup, the only problem with the Saturn had been addressed with a recall, and so it was fixed before I ever experienced a problem. Conversely, with respect to the F150, the auxiliary transmission pump went out at 33,500 miles with only 1,500 miles left on the warranty, as this is not considered part of the power train warranty. As far as I know, even though I had mine repaired under warranty, the weakness of the pump problem still exists with my new pump even though I only rarely use the start-stop system in the F150.
Thirdly, there is one benefit of this system over a regular start-stop that I failed to mention and this will be especially beneficial in a pickup truck that's used for hauling or towing. The regenerative breaking is a really nice feature. It's like having an engine brake. I really like that feature of the Saturn.
Lastly, my biggest concern with the eTorque will be what it does to resale value, because the market is scared of anything with the word "hybrid" attached to it even though the Saturn system is amazingly reliable. My eleven year old Saturn is worth nothing as far as book value and trade-in value. Like I stated, I'm not a fan, but as far as reliability, you're probably going to have zero problems with this system. That type of hybrid battery will far outlast your regular truck battery and a lithium ion battery system. My Saturn is going on year twelve and year eleven with the same 3 hybrid batteries.
IT`S TRUMPS FAULT!!!!!!!
The alternator cost $2200.00
The 3.5 ecoboost 16 MPG you mentioned was a 4x4 with payload package in the city that not many people are going to buy. The regular mpg is 18/25. 4x4 is 1mpg less.

Why does it matter if the dash is soft touch?Do people just go around caressing their dashboards? Give me that hard material and let me save a couple bucks lol.
Jay lester its just nice luxury wise. It's a preference. It also looks better than hard plastic. You can't really make hard plastic look like it's soft and leather like. It just ends up looking fake.
Gay man do care if is soft or hard, Pick Up Trucks, REAL Pick Up Trucks, Are made for MAN, like the 1ns in Texas, not some barbies man that uses his pickup tu go buy shit for the kitchen because he's wife doesn't want to drive the Mercedes
You are talking about the hard plastic that get scratched by getting touched from your nails? No thanks
That's funny, because most of the trucks sold in Texas are actually the exact same luxury trims the rest of the country buys. You want a work truck for cheap? You can still get them. But don't make fun of me for enjoying my driving experience and being comfortable.
It’s not just about feel. Soft plastics absorb road noise better.
I'm just extremely thankful I own my vehicles and can go anywhere I want without worrying about a breakdown. If I weren't a technician that could keep my own vehicles serviced and dependable, I would rent a vehicle for trips before paying 67K for a dang prissy truck. It's ridiculous how much vehicles cost now days.
I think the idea of this eTorque is great if all you're doing is the stop/start feature but it is pretty useless to most people unless you're in the city doing a lot of city driving. If you really want an effective and efficient combination of V8 Engine and electric motor then it needs to have an electric motor on the other side of the transmission closer to the wheels and not just on the engine. One to spin up the crank shaft to the proper RPM as soon as engine power is needed and the other for getting the wheels in motion. Both motors can also be used to apply varying levels of regenerative breaking. Not sure how much you can do at 48v other than start the engine so you'd need more batteries to really make it worth while as well, but you don't need a high amp hour battery or full hybrid Li-Ion type system, just a more capacitor like system for temporary storage and discharge. So we need better super capacitors.......
Fake heat extractors? Why?
better resale value...lmao
Because "racetruck".
I just got a 2020 RAM 1500 Laramie 5.7L eTorque. Love it so far. Good use of technology. Thinking of doing a paracord wrap on all 4 grab handles. Did it for a compound bow that had too slim of a grip. Improves grip and can be undone for usable cord in zombie apocalypse situations!
How’s it going? I’ve been looking at a 2019.
@@TheOfficialMcWaka Running great, ultra smooth shifting (eTorque matches engine speed to the next gear) improved gas mileage by about 1 extra mpg after 5,000 mile break in and zero warranty issues, but running summer AC decreases gas mileage like on all other cars and trucks. Only issue was after an extra heavy 2" rainstorm, had 1/4 cup of water on my front passenger all weather floor mat. I park under a tree so gunk was plugging the tiny weep holes, one on either side of the plastic trim at the windshield base, allowing water to pond at the outside base of the windshield. I drilled these these holes out so about 3 time greater in diameter and make sure that area stays clear of debris. Two big rainstorms since and not another drop of water infiltration. Did not need to go to the dealership about it. Some RAM 1500s have had rear window leaks, so make sure to sniff test a used truck interior for any musty smells and check floor carpets for dampness. In general cars and trucks with sun roofs can leak from clogged drains, or squeak/rattle, or malfunction, so I avoid getting a sunroof. Spoke with a used car/truck dealer and he says he never has sun roofs in his many personal vehicles for this reason.
@@TheOfficialMcWaka I should add that the 2019 RAM 1500 had several teething issue recalls that were fixable, but make sure they are up to date. The only service bulletin/recall on my 2020 is for tailgate latch check and adjustment, but mine has never had a problem and I have not brought it in yet.

As far as reliability

I can honestly tell you the ram trucks are the most reliable I’ve ever had and I beat him day in and day out I haul heavy loads pull trailers couldn’t be happier that’s why am buying a new 19

Rams with hemi engines are reliable

FCA though. Will be interesting to see the reliability and long term durability.
I like the Ram 1500 Limited better.
Ram is the best looking truck, I just wish they were more reliable.
Is that a ring I see?
Too many people blaming FCA for their reliability. the 5.7 Hemi and the 8-speed transmission are the strongest FCA can give you and they ARE reliable.
This would help turbo lag on Fords EcoBoost.

Nice truck. The side vents look good on the hood but that big piece in the middle is a bit much.
If I buy a Ram, it will have a Cummins Engine.
Cummins and Ram is coming to an end in 2020 or 2021 so I've heard.
1/2 ton can barely pull a loaded 26ft travel trailer safely and you are going to get 8 or 9 mpg. The 3/4 or 1 ton Cummins last 1 million miles or more, better fuel economy, hold their value much much better and you can tow/stop 18 000 - 30 000 lbs safely.
@@davidbrennan5 The newer 6.7 cummins are usually the least reliable engines in pickups. They took to emissions in a very bad way, head warping (happened to me at 37,000 km), head gaskets, and cooked valves. I know the last gen 6.6 Duramax was king of the hill when it came to durability, not sure about the new ones though as they haven't had enough time to be tested.
We have an 04 with 1.4 million and an 08 with 800 000. I was told to delete all the emissions stuff if you buy newer than 08. The Duramax was pretty good but they don';t last and they are a bitch to work on compared to the Cummins.
Awesome!

Has anyone heard that the new 12 inch screens are locking up on people and you have to practically shut the truck off and back on again to get it to reset???
Disconnect the battery to reset when they lock up.
Good, you should be paying attention to driving not playing with a damn screen in the vehicle...damn thing should be 100% disabled while the vehicle is in gear. Distracted driving is the major cause of accidents, and automakers need to be punished for making it even more distracting for drivers having all that nonsense in vehicles.
