- I Review the RAM 1500 5.7L hemi/3.6L pentastar ETorque Hybrid Engines and explain the pros and cons of this electric hybrid system on the ram 1500 trucks. I go over Fuel economy, Power figured including torque, acceleration and transmission performance benefits with the E-torque System. I also go over some known issues and problems and discuss why I don't like the e-torque system as a mechanic.

I got my hands on a nice 2023 Ram 1500 with the E-torque mild hybrid system and I thought it would be cool to compare the system to a truck that does not have e-torque on it.
the first benefit is the added torque that this electric drive motor gives to the truck. ram claims up to 90lb-ft of torque but as I discuss this torque is only available at very certain times and during almost all regular driving conditions it is not available.
the second benefit is the start-stop technology. the engine can be started using the motor and this will in theory save some fuel economy when driving in the city.
the third benefit is smoother transmission shifting. because the motor can spin up the crankshaft to meet the perfect RPMs to create a very smooth shift.
the last benefit comes in the form of regenerative energy capture that this hybrid system can perform. when the truck is slowing down energy is transferred into the 48 volt lithium ion battery pack in the back of the cab.
I put both my truck to the test and with my real world tests it seems like their really is not much added performance with the e-torque system. when accelerating with a fully loaded 8,000lbs trailer the e-torque system did not improve my acceleration which i found disappointing.
the potential issues with this e-torque system is like any other electrical component, added complexity can usually add to less reliability. when this system first came out there were lots of issues with batteries and software issues.
its not that these systems are prone to fail but it does add another layer of complexity to the truck and that could result in less reliability. - Авто та транспорт
I own a 5.7-liter engine with eTorque technology. I have not experienced any problems with it, and it provides excellent fuel efficiency. I recently drove from Detroit to Wisconsin and only used three-quarters of a tank of gas. Overall, I am very satisfied with my vehicle.
He just proved to you that the etorque adds zero fuel economy
You’re probably getting fuel efficiency from the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) (e.g., shutting down cylinders) and not e-torque.
He only tested the V6@@rock-uu7qr
Great tutorial video.... straight forward, no stupid background music and very factual. Thanks 👍
Thank you sir!
Recently bought a 2024 Ram. Test drove a 1500 Laramie with the hemi and e-torque. Didn’t quite care for the driving habits. Got back to the dealer and went straight to the 2500 with 6.4 hemi. Extremely happy with the 2500.
Congratulations, you have actual useable payload! 😂
@@SliderFury1legal mumbo jumbo. You don't actually believe the #s right. Just go down to Florida and sit in thee Lowes/Home Depot parking lot. I've seen the 5.3 Chevy and 5.7 Ram carry 6 men and 15k lbs of pavers many a time. Jus sitting on the bump stops, merging onto the highway at 37 MPH 😂
Great choice, love the 6.4 Hemi.
I have one with eTorque, damn, the brake with regeneration is really good you can notice it and also the smoothness of the auto stop start is amazing. City mpg's are better than highway because the 4cyl mode is enhanced thanks to the eTorque
the auto start and stop is actually very seamless!
These engines develop serious issues due to that “4cyl mode”
@@losungen9862MDS causing lifter problems is a myth. ReignitedAuto UA-cam channel has a great 40 min video on this. Essentially, it was the introduction of VVT in 2009 in combination with a low volume oil pump. His recommendation is to install a high volume oil pump and leave MDS on (it lubricates more when it’s on).
Cylinder deactivation / Auto start stop….
Gross.
@@losungen9862not proven at all.
I have a 2020 RAM REBEL Hemi with e-torque, and I love it! I can actually feel the engine helping to stop the truck, when I come to a stop light/or stop sign, and the "STOP/START is SEAMLESS, and you hardly deel it start up. I have not had ANY ISSUES wwith the truck at all!
I can't wait to see your reviews of the new RAM Hurricane Engine, and the Hybrid, and hopefully RAM Rev.
I’ve lived with the e-Torque Hemi for 3 years now. The biggest thing that you’ll actually notice is how smooth the stop / start feature is. I HATE stop / start on other vehicles. This isn’t jarring, it’s fast off the line. It’s by far the best stop / start implementation I’ve seen.
Second place and not nearly as perceptible.-
Supposedly, it helps keep you in cylinder deactivation mode for a little bit longer and adds gap power in between shifts.
Exactly this. I always turn off start stop in every vehicle, even my BMW. I just picked up a '24 1500 Limited and one of my first thoughts is the start stop is as close to instant as I have ever felt.
Exactly. I like the way it works on my 2024.
This is 100 % accurate
If you read the whole technical manual on it, it shows why. It changes the transmission as well. It can lock up the torque converter with the electic motor start, and get the truck barely moving as it starts the motor. It also does all that as you start to let off the brake. So it feels like a regular running gas motor with automatic starting to creep forward as the brake is released.
Had my etourque for 2 years now. It makes tthe stop start seamless. I can take it or leave it. And i have no complaints especially in bumper to bumper traffic. But one great perk was, since its has that "mild hybrid" system and its classified as such in the description, i got a tax credit and a "clean pass" sticker from NYS. Meaning i can use the HOV lanes in many states and i dont need a passenger with me.
I have a 2023 rebel with etourqe and absolutely love it. Shifts smooth, tows more, and can’t feel start stop.
SAME HERE
Same here with a 2024 rebel
2022 Rebel GT Same here
Lol
Same! 2022 Laramie GT. Love it!
I just bought a 2023 with a Hemi and I do not know that much about it yet. Thank you for explaining it, I do know that the fuel milage is not what they say it shoud be.
and it never will be 😉
I am only getting 19.5 mpg at the best. I like the truck but it does not compare to my 03 with a Cummins. I was getting 23.0 with it. But time will tell. Love the Ram!
@@tycloud4601 How are you even getting 19.5? Be grateful, mine gets 15 !
Probably 19.5 kilometers not miles.
Thanks as always for your honesty and great review
I had a 2021 2dr Jeep Rubicon with E-Torque 3.6L and it was fantastic. That Jeep was actually pretty quick especially off the start!
I read through most of these reviews and those that don't have eTorque are against it and those that do have an eTorque are mostly happy or at least ok with it. We have a 2019 Ram Limited 4x4 with the 3.92 rear with eTorque and use out for towing our 5800# camper. It currently has just over 57000 miles on it and we love it. The start/stop feature works the best over other start/stops, shifting is buttery smooth, and the regenerative braking is really great going down the mountains pulling a camper. No brake job yet, or even looking like it's close and I attribute that to the eTorque regenerative braking for the most part. Also, being a limited with lots of electronics, the 48volt lithium battery powers the truck well without issue. I'm with most on here that believe Ram did this as token compliance to the "overlords" of saving the planet by fossil fuel reductions. Thankfully, there is some merit to this system even if the design was for spurious reasons. The eTorque system is covered by the 8 year emissions warranty so there's that.
Hi Alex.
Really surprise me your video, tests and comments.
My summary after your video are
minimal benefits for a technology that equips expensive devices. I admire your honesty and objectivity in your tests and comments. Although I think that fuel consumption in the city and with a load limit is when the greatest benefits are obtained. As always Alex; very grateful for sharing your videos.
Big HUG from CDMX; México. 🤠
pretty much sir! to me there is not enough benefits to really celebrate this truck as a hybrid.
Pretty good hitting 10 seconds with 8000 lb trailer with the v6
Great video as always 👍
I was intrigued by this setup, and after watching this video, I conclude the minimal benefits don't outweigh the added complexity of the e-torque system 😢
Cool video. Keep up the side by side comparisons as much as possible.
I plan on it sir! thank you
You get thumbs up before I even watch your videos. Lol. Doing a great job and much appreciate the efforts you put in to them. I avoided the eTorque when I was shopping. the added potential for failure didn't even come close to the claimed savings to the vehicle owner imo. Mine is a 2019 Rebel
I feel like the E torque is a Gimmick. I think it is more for the start stop feature more than anything else.
the start- stop is the only noticeable feature lol
Start stop not only helps fuel economy but less idle time which helps engine wear, this has been proven with oil analysis
@MSchumacherfan maybe if you live in the city, out in the country it does nothing. Also has been proven
@@wasupfool5692out in the country the hemi does amazing on fuel
@@wasupfool5692there’s definitely benefits to the etorque stuff when towing and that doesn’t really matter where you are. You can feel the difference it makes from a stop when compared to the regular 5.7. The braking also feels better but I’m not sure if they use the same braking system or not.
Appreciate the review of this system.
I have a 2020 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi etorque, no issues, considering the cam/lifter problem likely from low oil volume during idling I’m glad I have the etorque, also the front brake pads show minimal wear at 45,000 miles
The rear are used more
Just have my 2019 5.7 non e torque in the air 107,000 miles and I still have 8 mm on my front pads
this was created for the CAFE / EPA test..... Great video
Or maybe a gimmick from Ram to make people feel better about driving a gas guzzler.
It honestly seems that way lol thank you!
What is surprising to me is nobody is mentioning the strange braking habits when coming to a stop in the e torque trucks. I recently just bought a e torque and im very happy with it. The only thing Ive really had to get used to is when coming up on a stop light or a traffic stop or something similar and im coasting into the situation, its like the regenerative braking and the input from my foot on the brake pedal are kind of fighting eachother trying to decide which one is going to do the majority of the braking. Its strange…im getting used to it but its definitely a quirk of this system.
I have a 23 1500 with it. Its a weird feeling
They aren't fighting with each other. It's how regenerative braking works. You apply braking at the pedal. That tells the computer to convert some of the torque (deceleration) into energy to give to the battery pack. If you turn off the eTorque start/stop feature, you won't get that "fight" feeling. You simply feeling the power conversion process.
Ya its a werid feeling coming to a stop.
I bought a new Ram and wanted one without the e torque. Plan on keeping the truck a long period of time and more complexity with additional components did not make sense for me. Purchased a Bighorn hemi with 3:92 axle, added leather and it works!
Great video! I couldn’t justify paying extra for the eTorque just to have more items to fail, and the acceleration was actually slower haha. Needs to help out more to be effective, I think.
Love your videos ❤
Complexity always adds potential reliability issues down the road. The simpler, the better. I'd go with just a normal drivetrain if I were shopping in this segment. Great video as always though.
Very helpful, thanks!
the 5th gen has bigger 6-10ply tires with the "Off Road Package", a tad bigger and raised ride height to put in consideration
but I still love your videos!! 🤙🤟
because I have one but its the 5.7 with the eTorque, I like it for timy drive thru's😂 it has good torque down low and help slow you down especially noticable when turing in a street it feels like brake sticking until you touch back the feeder but its okay lol
didn't notice fuel savings very much as this one have big heavy 10ply tire conpared to the loaner Enterprise 4ply but same 3.21 diff which I like
these 5.7 ram is the most sweet spot engine in a half ton, they have good torque down low and it only need to have 1 drive mode no sport or anything because the power is there, 1 mode and its the good one😄
Thanks for the great video, it would be interesting to see if it is the same for the hemi. I had a ‘16 hemi limited and now a ‘22 hemi etorque limited and all I can say, there is a difference. I pull a 30’ holiday trailer and I have noticed better performance and about 15% fuel saving, so in my opinion, it pays to have it.
You must do alot of stop and go then
I feel like the people who purchased the etorq systems feel the need to defend them due to their pride.
@@Rusty-Shackleford69yep 😊
@@Rusty-Shackleford69…. Or maybe the people who don’t have eTorque are envious and just gotta hate on something they can’t have….
@RoadieWingZZ That is a possibility. I know I enjoyed the day I purchased my new 3500 Ho to my specifications. Hopefully, everyone can have their truck paid off in 16 months.
Ive got a 2023 1500 with about 7500 miles on it with the 5.7 etorque. Not a gimmick. Came from a 3.5l ecoboost f150. Power is just as good and i get a solid 4mpg better fuel economy than the ecoboost. Glad i got mine before they axed the 5.7.
I was recently looking at new trucks. Checked out the Ram 1500 and must say they give you nice packages for the money. Researched and found most people are just not getting that good of fuel mileage. I'm on my 3rd F150 with the 2.7 and just love that engine. I don't tow so no real need for the 3.5. If i drive conservative, keeping it out of boost, i can get 24 mpg around town. On the highway doing 65 I'll get 23 roughly depending on head winds and such. I have a friend who had a couple of older 1500 models and he was only getting 14 to 16 in town and 18 on highway. I just can't give up the Ford due to better fuel mileage.
I have heard some 1500 owners getting 22 on highway but I've heard more saying they get 16 to 18. It could be sure to the way they drive, i don't know.
Ty for sharing, lol @ 7:29, I had a 2018 express sporting, same radio 😅 ... but joking aside... that simple v6 package only needed little better low end and mid range torque and it be a great daily driver ... this system completely over complicated life ...
As an owner of a 2021 Ram 5.7 hemi with the etorque, I can confidently its easily one of the features of all time.
One of the "best features of all time" ?
I had a stroke trying to read that
i agree, it is indeed one of the features of all time.
So no issues with 48v battery? Replacement cost$ ? How long they typically last?
@lareggiejones6617 I haven't had any. Had mine since 2021 and put 70k miles on it. Only issue I have had is an update on software for my center consoles screen. Otherwise, no issues noted or found.
It's probably been close to 20 years ago. Ford was working on a transmission fluid accumulator that was mounted to the frame rail. It accumulated transmission pump pressure at cruise, then it would release at first gear take off from a stop. The additional fluid capacity also kept fluid temperatures down. Pretty much E Torque, but more F Torque.
Thanks for the great video as always.
It’s a warm up to a full hybrid truck. I think a truck is a great platform for a battery pack. For a half ton truck for most folks it’s a daily driver and payload isn’t an issue.
I have a 2021 with Etorque and I do a combination of city and highway driving and get anywhere from 22 to 26 miles per gallon on a V-8 hemi.
Could you demonstrate how to use the electronic range selector? Saw your tow/haul version.
I own a 2022 RAM Bighorn crew cab V6 eTorque 4X4 but my truck as a 3.55 limited slip diff and a shorter 5'7" bed so he pull more , I even get 21mpg combined in summer
the 3.55 limited slip would be a nice options!
Good video, as always. Ram did a good job championing a hybrid in a fullsize truck, credit where it is due. But the E-Torque system wasn't, and isn't, enough. Now, their new RamCharger, that is downright exciting. With a V6 driving a generator, 100% electric drive, the torque should be stunning. Looking forward to the next video.
The new Ramcharger will be interesting. I like that they have a full engine on board. probably the way of the future tbh.
It is a very smooth system. I usually turn it off every time I start my truck. Another thing to wear our prematurely.
I have a RAM 1500 with e-torque and feel the same... I don't see it saving much. Seems like it would when you have "waits" like red lights OR getting food at a drive thru. My fear is failure as it ages without a warranty, if that occurs then you don't save a dime. Think e-torque was more about checking a box for government regulations rather than a selling a useful feature for your customers shopping for a new truck. I'm hoping for someone to come out with a delete kit one day, I can see doing that rather than fixing if it goes bad. I agree with others that it's very smooth vs. others I've been in. I do hate it when stopping then backing up into a parking spot... I find the pause I typically have shifting gears is just enough for it to turn off and right back on. Same crap happens with the moving into park... truck shuts off due to stopping and you shift into park for it to just start back up.
It's not made for "extra" torque. It uses the battery to help with fuel economy. I've listened to the engineers who come out and say this does not add tq. 100 % false. I can't speak to the fuel economy as I do not have an e torque. Good video. Always enjoy your videos.
Alex have you ever done a review of the 3.3L ford base engine in the F150? Looks like the last simple engine left. Thanks!
I have not! but I believe as of 2024 the new base engine is the 2.7L.
@@TheGettyAdventures ugh I think you’re right! You can still build one on ford’s website with it but it might be only because they still have some 2023 inventory. I’m stopping by a dealership next week and I’ll ask them.
Might as well just get a 5.0 then It's just as simple as a 3.3@@Johnsmith46392
Just bought a new 150 2024 f150s do not have the non-turbo base engine anymore. Just 2.7 tt now.
@@blueheelerfriend8450 that really stinks. That was the last of the simple NA engines and by all accounts really reliable.
2024 ram 1500 Laramie in Florida. I got 1 complaint is the delay with start stop tech in general. The other is the truck no matter how light I drive 16mpg avg is the best so far
I do wonder in the future if Ram plans on using the Jeep 4xe system with their trucks. The Grand Cherokee 4xe has like a 26 mile range on battery only power, and I'd imagine with system being used in the 1500 they would have extra space to put more batteries to give it additional range. It's a much more sophisticated system that offers pretty much all of the same benefits of the eTorque with more power and actual EV battery driving range. I hate that we'll likely never see such a system be paired with the 5.7 since Stellantis seems so obsessed with ditching the Hemi in its entirety with the quickness. A 1500 with a Hemi and a 4xe system with about 50 miles of range would be perfect for me since it would give me just enough electric range in the city that I could use the truck as an EV daily driver to get to my job and back or for any grocery shopping I do. I wouldn't need to use the engine until I take a trip out of town or I let my inner Mopar out and floor it because Hemi noise is good noise. 🥴My old daily driver was a 2007 300C, so since I started driving my grandpa's 2014 1500 I've had a habit of driving it like I stole it. I miss that car, but the truck is way more luxurious and plays the same V8 musical notes. It's a literal win-win for me 🤣
So………..regarding my observation, I just did 32000 km, 50% with the trailer attached, …………..so it should give me a good indication to compare to my previous’16, I base it my fuel usage and it definitely has improved, but again, this is just my observation, I’m happy with it 😊
Love the e torque
I have a 23Limited i feel its a good system when i use it i can tell it saves on gas about 2 more miles to gallon in city an breaking i love how that feels an transmission shifts are smooth but as you say there's still more factors of things going wrong.
Here is my real world take for someone who's owned both a 2019 RAM quad cab Hemi and current a 2019 RAM crew cab V6 e torque.
Both trucks are Bighorn trim levels. The hemi truck was more a baseline Bighorn and the V6 truck is a fully loaded bighorn (only option is lacks is the Hemi).
The Hemi truck got better fuel economy all around. 18 city 21 hwy. Towing i would drop to around 15.
The V6 model i have done mostly hwy driving commuting and i can get it to go higher than 17 hwy.
But the reliability over the Hemi is worth it IMO.
You forgot to mention less time at idle with the start stop, (the main culprit to "Hemi tick" and the saving of brake pads and rotors with regenerative braking.
The way I understand it is that is that the e-torque supplies torque up to 2,000 RPMs. And since that it doesn't supply torque all the way to top end that they can't apply e torque to the torque specs. I've owned a ram truck from 2010 to all the way up to 2024 and then I switched to the hemi e. Torque. To me, there's there's no comparison between my non hemi engine and the one with etoeque. Imo
Seems like any gains having E torque on your truck would be minimal. Wondering what the cost is of the E torque option ?? Great video as always
you can't buy a non-etorque anymore. When it was new it was about 3k difference on the 5.7. I see a gain in about 3-4mpg in the city vs my friends non-etorque
they are very minimal, I believe now you can only get these trucks with the E-torque. but before that it was like 1100 bucks depending on the model.
Etorque is standard on 3.6 V6 motor. Hemi with etorque is an option through 2024.
Agree. Cheap solution to get EPA MPG up slightly. 3.0 coming. Would be cool for you to look at the 3.0 Jeep or Ram coming.
I don't like it. Added complexity, maintenance, and minimal benefit.
Hi jw8578
Absolutely agree. 😮
E-torque is great for marketing but that's about it. Honestly I was a little down on the 3.0 it to begin with BUT I like that's it's in a inline-6 configuration and hopefully is a little torque monster. granted with twin turbos strapped to it who the hell knows about reliability or longevity. Only time will tell.
@@TheGettyAdventures if you have a chance to look at a 3.0 hurricane in the Jeep that would be cool.
I have a 2019 Laramie 5.7 no etorque and I have a 2024 ram rebel with etorque and the 2024 wastes more gas, has less power and torque than the 2019 Laramie. No doubt I like the Laramie better without etorque! Also the start stop is not smooth on my rebel in fact it jumps when it starts back up like it wants to take off without me excellerating. Good video! 👍
The Rebel with or without the etorque never had good gas mileage, in fact the Rebel consume more gas than the Laramie. Always have been that way. So your theory has been mooted.
I just bought a 2024 Longhorn with 5.7 hemi and etorque. Would have preferred No etorque and 2WD but no dealership had any. So far I’ve only driven it home after sale but I will disable the Start/Stop every time I get in, just like I always have with my car that has the silly feature. I think we all can ‘thank’ the US EPA for all the things we hate about recent vehicle changes. The reason I chose to buy now was, 2024 is the last year for the naturally aspirated V8 in a Ram 1500 truck.
If the 48v battery fails can u bypass etorque n run it like regular hemi?
Also note that rear brakes changed at 55,000 and just changing front brakes at 65,000 not bad. I think from regen braking?. Just the pads
Looking at buying a 2021 ram 1500 Longhorn limited but I am concerned about the Etor or the battery replacement when it Hass to happen or how much $, the truck has less than 11,000 miles on it
I have a brand new, 2024 version of the 8 cylinder etorque and would love to see how it compares
Please check out the true Hybrid conversion kits from Edison Motors (Merrit, BC) for one tons. You may end up burning up some tires, speaking of torque.
Thanks for the great Info. Gonna skip all E-T Rams.
I have 40,000 miles on my 2020 Laramie 5.7 etorque. I previously owned a 2017 with the 5.7L. I see no added gas milage and feel no additional power with the etorque truck compared to the 2017 that I owned, and I tow a trailer occasionally. I think all the added weight of the system/generator/battery/electronics removes the small benefit it was supposed to provide. I think Ram did it for EPA "green" compliance only. I will say I've had zero problems with mine. I personally wish I didn't have it, because when it breaks down, it's going to be expensive to repair.
Same here, I hate it because I feel like I’m actually loosing a ton of power compared to my last truck that was a plain 5.7. I’m hoping that when it does break that I will be able to completely delete the system and switch to a regular alternator but it doesn’t seem like it’s possible just yet
You are 100% correct. EPA games, plain and simple. My 2024 gets worse MPG than my 2014, and its a lot slower. They have muted throttle response as well !
I think it’s just to say they have a “hybrid”. It’s nothing compared to the ford powerboost or new hybrid tundra. Can you test those in the future? Looking forward to the 2.7 tow video
I would agree, great for marketing but really no performance like a true hybrid.
Well one thing is for sure, the "e-Torque" badge looks cool....lol
But isn't etorque good at least for the Hemi since it greatly cuts down on idle time? Could save the lifters in the long run.
At half a wheel turn, I think the only real situation you'll see a major benefit to eTorque is hauling loads in a heavy stop/start environment. You can see their logic -- you use the most gas when trying to first build momentum. But I'm not sure how much comperable "heavy traffic hauling" it would take to get a tangible result though. Seems like something contractors or lawn service folks would be interested in.
Bed sizes are different it seems. I would be interested to know the weight difference between both trucks.
So far I like the E-Torque, I was told forever its harder on an engine to continually start and stop the engine so, I usually shut that feature off. When I do use it, I've noticed its really smooth, Haven't towed with it yet???
Start/Stop is great...what I don't like is the regenerative braking as soon as you let off the gas the trucks starts to slow immediately like an EV.
What I noticed with the etorque system is if you don't wait for at least 3secs after coming to a stop there, sometimes it is one hard jerk when you accelerate. It's as if the etorque system has to spool down completely.
I have a question is normal if the battery gage goes down to the last line ??? On 2023 5.7 hemi etorque
Same size tires on both trucks as well?
I have a 22 rebel with the 5.7 etorque and i usually turn off the start/stop anyway and not sure about the acceleration or towing because i had a 2014 ram tradesman with the 3.21 gears and 6 speed. Where the rebel has 3.92 with the 8 speed. But i did notice the shifting is almost non-existant. Almost like an automatic ATV. Just feels like it just goes and barely feel any shifts
Wonderful rig, those rebels are great trucks. but yes I the shifting with the E-torque was just wonderfully smooth.
Each engine has a different tune for the etorque and non. The etorque tune de-tunes the engine for the generator longevity
Interesting. makes sense
I thought it was cool when I first heard it, because I thought it was like a K.E.R.S. system and you have a little turbo button you can press when you got her pinned
When I bought my 2023 Ram 1500 I was told the E torque was to give more energy to run all the electrical on the truck. Also my Ram doesn’t seam to shut down when I’m stopped?
I noticed with mine it won't shutdown if the ac is running
The 5th benefit is I can park in the "energy efficient" parking spots at our shops in Australia .When the local "Karen" starts their rant,I point out that it's a hybrid lol
Can I use the DC to DC charger to charge my LiPo4 battery in my travel trailer?
The e torque has to be driven like a hybrid not a regular truck.. having to be gentle on your driving in the city you want to try and keep the hybrid symbol activated… so when driving in the city you have to accelerate a few miles over your desired speed then slowly depress the accelerator until the hybrid symbol generated then attempt to keep that speed and you will see your miles per gallon improve
👌🏻
So, any news on Ram 2500 3500 Cummins
Maybe a silly question, but isnt start /stop hard on parts? If so doesnt that negate any benfits?
I'm sickened over trading my 2017 for a 2023 e-torque just to get a good warranty. I hate my deal, my fault, I hate this truck, 2023 Longhorn. I hate the 5.7 inch bed where a darn fence picket can't lay flat with a closed gate. Thanks for the video.
For a “Hybrid” vehicle, that e-torque system is probably the least complex on the market. The standard Starter Motor and Alternator are removed and replaced with the combined unit that is simply belt driven from the crankshaft. Granted that the e-torque is a very-mild hybrid (400Wh battery I believe), All other systems on other manufacturers have it integrated into the transmission - so more complex. But in reality this really is a very good (maybe best), Start/Stop engine system to aid fuel economy metrics for City use. As such it’d probably see better benefits in the V8 engined vehicles.
"eCVT" systems (Prius, Accord hybrid, etc) are FAR simpler than traditional transmissions.
Question, would you trade in a 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn Night Edition 5.7 E-Torque for a 2023 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7 or 5.0?????
Only the 5.0. Stay away from those TURBOS!!
The only engine I continue to read good reviews about is the 2.7. The 5.0 is close to second. I still can’t decide on a full size truck. I’m still between the 5.7, 5.0 and 2.7. Leaning towards the 2.7 currently, but I’m all over the place day to day lol
@@gabee3464 sounds like me haha
Does start/stop engage when the AC is on high?
I purchased a new 2019 Rebel with the V8 eTorque and it was nothing but problems. At 10k miles it needed a new engine, a month later a new transmission. 10K miles after that another new engine. I sued FCA under the Lemon Law and they agreed to buy it back plus a significant amount in additional damages. My truck sat on the dealer lot for 6 months during all these lengthy repairs. As far as MPG, my lifetime at 33k miles when I turned it in to FCA was only 12.5 mpg. I loved the styling, air suspension and power but otherwise it was a nightmare and I'm now happily driving a fully loaded 2024 Chevrolet Trail Boss paid for in full by FCA.
I had the same problem with a ram limit
Im assuming both trucks have same gear ratios right?
I have this truck, 2022, it feels like it surges from a stop a bit...but also dont notice start/stop
It’s a very expensive fix when it goes and yes it will go.
I don't know if someone has, but if you could do a video with the hemietorque
I recently saw something that says the hemi e torque 1500 has the towing capacity weight equal to a 3 quarter ton without e torque which kinda sounds like an old heavy half from the 80s 10:15
Ftlbs is how my torque wrench is labeled
Alex, as always, thanks for the informative videos.
My opinion, ram is poorly made and I wouldn’t spend money on anything they make. My experiences with the hemi have never been good. So regardless of etorque or not, i would buy a turbo’d v6 before any v8 using cylinder deactivation or some ridiculous hybrid system.
But u came here anyway? Lol, real man of genious
I currently have a Ram with the E-torque and when I coming to a stop it’s weird I hate it because the truck shuts off because I’ve stopped completely. It’s usually already off by the time I’m as 2-3mph. It does nothing for fuel economy my 07 GMC 2500 with the 6.0 gets the same if not better fuel economy
Sounds like you have an issue because it should not shut down until after you come to a complete stop
@@jainsw eh I know it has an open recall it’s going next Friday to get that done we’ll see if that changes anything
@@2lopezd it should make a big difference at least in how it operates. My fuel mileage is pretty good with about 21 mph on the road and about 16.7 in city. Towing our camper it depends on how fast I drive. Anything over 60mph is going to be under 10mpg, but if I can keep it under 60 it can be as high as 11.4mpg. We live in the mountains so there's that, but what I've noticed is it gets better mileage there than in the Texas wind pulling the camper. I hope your recall fixes the issue and you can enjoy the benefits.
No way. No way in hell
No way what!
OWNER (2019 Ram e-Torque): It’s a $1,600 gimmick that was possibly just a compliance play by RAM.
Ram likely knew it wouldn't do much. At the end it was probably a unique way to add that ridiculous start/stop system while claiming an added benefit.
Anyone that has been paying attention for a minute or two will realize that Stellantis and dishonesty have become synonyms.
I think the whole industry is getting a little money hungry and quality is become less and less important.
Whats the rear end. 3.21/3.55? 6.4 bed vs 5.7.?
same rear ends, and yes the fifth gen had the longer bed.
How about repair costs? 2022 1500 Classic 3.6L reman 220 amp alternator from Mopar, R6029649AB - $452.00. 2022 Ram 1500 etorque 3.6L generator from Mopar, 68452771AE - $968.00. 😮
