One thing I think all theme park building games should have is the ability to play as your avatar. Like in planet coaster you actually make an avatar but it’s only for the menu screen. Instead of just being a god-like floating camera, it’s be nice to walk around your creations like a visitor and experience it from their point of view. Some games have done this to some degree but I think the most recent and best games haven’t.
Sooooo true ! With all the new processing power coming out this is a hybrid game that needs to happen ! Simulator plus first/third person gameplay and interaction !
@@kriskater I know, if Thrillville on PS2 could do it, why can't today's games? (Thrillville obviously wasn't as deep as simulators but you know what I'm getting at).
Definitly the best review of this game, If I ever got a friend looking for a review thatll decide if theyll get it Ill definetly recommend this vidd
Dude, this video is INCREDIBLY made. I honestly thought my auto-play brought up an IGN review until I looked.
HOW are you not contracted with someone huge?!??
It is niceley produced. But you can learn these kinds of motion graphics over time if you use After Effects a lot etc.
@@iforgot87872 I think he’s talking about the guys script and speaking. He has a good voice and it’s a very well presented review. Not even talking about the power point stuff lol
Screw IGN; they should be asking THIS guy for a job.
I did a very similar one-year-later review of the game as well. The game has come quite a long way since release and it deserves updated reviews.
Do you think the game will get updates or new DLC's now, in 2021?
Well Frontier did say the dinosaurs were the stars but it seems that the mechanics for the dinosaurs are all the same however I wish that the Pachycephalosaurus Stigimoloch Dracorex wood play fight instead of fight to the death all the time whenever overpopulation happens. And also I wish interspecies herding, and Pack Hunting are included and better T Rex, and raptor skins.
well it was free as a Game with Gold, having fun currently playing it.
Same :)
no it was games with gold for december. Playing it now and must say, very good game!
@@thelittlebrickshack8402 "no it was games with gold for december" and I posted that a month ago so what's your point?
@@someonezmom ow i'm sorry, i was searching for gamepass stuff and read gamepass. I must have been tired! My point is now...i hope that you enjoy the game :).
@@thelittlebrickshack8402 no worries, I just thought I missed something ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I'd love to see a remastered version of JPOG. This version would just clean out bugs, update the graphics, fix the controls, add some animations and other features, but mostly keep it how it always was.
A very well thought-out review. You address both the positives and the negatives with careful consideration. I have not played this game in over a year and have only seen videos of it being played by the likes of other UA-camrs. As repetitive and lackluster many elements may be, I still really love this game, and I long for the day when I can play it again at my leisure.
I guess you got your wish in regards to being able to play at your leisure...
All I really want is improved Dino A.I
MLGODZILLA420 Hopefully Frontier are working on that next!
I want bigger islands
I want dinosaurs
Dedsiika they have dinosaurs that’s the point of the game 😂
Dr. Jasontheman better get a good computer then if they do add that or a better console somehow since that’s gonna take lots of space on your system
I've never seen such service and feedback as Frontier for this game. They saw problems we pointed out and fixed them and optimized things for us. They really listened to the players.
Yes, despite a shoddy launch product I've been impressed with Frontiers support. This isn't just recent as I've been following them since 2016 with Planet Coaster. I already can trust Plant Zoo is in good hands after launch, the question is about whether the core game is up to scratch because there's only so many things you can do post launch.
All of the stuff they added was miniscule compared to what was actually required to fulfill the massive potential. Its still soulless, scripted and repetitive as hell.
The dinosaurs need more dynamic behaviours with animations to go along with and some sort of pack hunting and defending
But honestly these are also quiet a lot of expectations we have in that game: it needs to be a park management simulator with customer interaction, an environment and habitat creator with the ability of customizing buildings and structures, and at the same time we wanna zoom in on single creatures and see a variation of characters and remarkable behavior, and all bedded in to the history and context of the Jurassic Park movies and previous games.
I feel like no tycoon, management simulator ever had such a high bar in so many different areas.
I couldn't agree more. While he does bring up valid points; I wonder who has actually managed all this? I've made my decision anyways. Going to try out the game on steam.
@@megaselekmatos8519 Its an amazing game especially in the last three months
@@nireli5296 Yep. Imagine being cooped up without any of the distractions we have today 😂 Stay safe.
@@megaselekmatos8519 You too
They did it on planet zoo, why they couldnt do it in JW:evolution?
This was a pretty well-balanced review. Even though the new challenge mode, terrain tools, and sandbox mode adds a whole lot of replayability to the game, at this point for me it's kinda too little too late.
very in depth review, highly appreciated
As stupid as this sounds, the one change I was pleased to have was the original roar back on the Rex. That older roar was meh and more akin to the lost world roar. The Rex now sounds like the older Rex with that bassy trumpet roar
Annnnd now he needs to uprate it after the amzazing jurassic park dlc! Vehicle damage, and nee red wood trees!
We need a better A.I systens, not new dinosaurs, since we have so many.
Give us more dynamic fight animations. Or have pack hunting.
When you said "They're just Robotic" or something like that, my Parasaur was crying and then I felt bad xD
I’m itching for a remake of The Lost World: Jurassic Park game, you know the one, from PS1
And Sega Saturn
this would be awesome! it was the first game i ever played on ps1 haha
Michael Giacchino's score was epic as hell. His first major project.
Absolutely agree with all your critique
Great review thank you for taking the time! This game isn’t as bad as people say and it’s very cathartic chilling while playing it
I agree with most if not everything stated in this review. For me, the most disappointing aspects included the story (which is practically nonexistent), the lack of unique and meaningful dinosaur AI, the lack of any specific problems/challenges that could arise from taking care of certain dinosaurs (as you mentioned with the Velociraptors), the lack of disease prevention, stupid dinosaur AI that will occasionally make them go without eating or drinking for a while, the lack of creative alternate skins for some dinosaurs, the treatment of dinosaurs with arbitrary ratings (i.e. putting some less well-known dinosaurs above more famous ones which makes no sense), finicky guest needs while no way to interact with any guests exists, and the way the game forces you to do morally questionable things to progress through the campaign and gives you no alternate choices/allows you to go about things your own way.
All these things have convinced me that Frontier needs to build a sequel to this game on the Planet Coaster/Zoo engine. Yes, the guests might look cartoony and derpy, but that can be changed surely. Plus, the modular building put in the engine would allow us to create custom blueprints and exhibits that could be shared exactly like what Planet Zoo is doing. And, having played a bit of the Planet Zoo beta, the animals look absolutely fantastic and realistic. They could easily do the same for the dinosaurs and other creatures of Jurassic Park/World in the Planet game engine. And the needs and requirements of each prehistoric creature could be laid out in as complex of detail as the animals in Planet Zoo, adding that challenge to taking care of each species I mentioned.
Love the depth of this review! Definitely waiting for updates and a sale at this rate...
Super helpful review. Thank you for your in-depth information! I'm going to check the price on the playstation store now and decide.
Thanks for the such detailed review, it really helped me decide if I should get this game. Most reviews are from a year ago so none cover anything that is new after updates or dlc. The game and some dlc are on sale currently and I've wanted to play since launch.
Did you pick it up in the end?
Frank Rottenberg I did actually. I like tycoon type games and this is very much like that. It gets kind of stressful when they throw me on a island that’s failing and I’m struggling to manage my monthly costs, working up to save money and planning for any disasters that will set my animals free(or to make sure they stay happy and don’t break out). Good game for the price I paid.
@@anniehoward7333 Hey thanks for the swift reply! I'm glad you're enjoying the game :) It's not too stressful is it? Sometimes too much management can ruin the fun for me personally. Would you recommend it then? It's currently on sale for about £8 on steam :p
@@anniehoward7333 Also, would you agree with people that have said that it plays like a mobile game? That's been putting me off from buying it so far
Frank Rottenberg I feel the same way when a game gets to stressful. Starting out the game is pretty easy but then they start putting you on islands that have failed in the past so things are broken down or key buildings aren’t built. Or you might get put on a island thats prone to storms so more chances for the power to go out and stressing out your dinosaurs. It can get to a point where you may get stuck in a rut of micromanaging every building to see if it’s making enough money to out way the cost of having it running so you can actually make money on your island to get anywhere, I have spent a lot of time having most buildings closed that don’t make money and relaying on like 2 dinos to make money so I can make progress. If you aren’t paying attention to the needs of your dinosaurs(some need to be in pairs or more otherwise they will get too sad) and you realize too late that the dino who just died of old age is important cause the triceratops likes to have 4 or more of its kind in a closure or you don’t have enough money to grow another dino at the moment or the one you were trying to grow failed and by that point the dino is so sad it breaks out causing all the dinos in that closure to escape. So the game 100% has its moments of annoyance but once you get into that routine of knowing how things work and how to succeed I actually had fun with it. Then I would have to start over on another island because I completed my goal for the mission(story mode). For that price I would buy the game, I got mine for like $30(deluxe) on ps4 and I don’t feel like I wasted money after playing it.
I honestly enjoyed and agreed with your video review of the game.
I am happy with how the game grew up since launch, but it definitely has areas to improve on for it to develop into a fully enjoyable, immersive, and fun game. As of update 1.10, the game feels like a complete game with challenge mode, sandbox, and campaign mode as separate modes for players to have fun based on their preference. Now I could see and hope that development would add to the gameplay aspect of immersive guest management, attractions, and dinosaur behaviors. I do enjoy the roster of dinosaurs, but I feel new dinosaurs will still be added in as players, myself included, do enjoy the new additions, to which I hope those additions covers new niches untouched by the current roster.
The first year and a bit of support has been a bumpy ride. But now that major bugs and additions are added, I wish these next two years would foccus in transforming this game into a more enjoyable experience in terms of tycoon games.
I bought this for christmas and although I am having fun, you are bang on the mark on everything, its deep enough to be up to your waist, not shallow but not deep either (its like Sid Meiers Railroads). Good idea for the raptors would be to have a "live pen", ergo you need actual staff maintaining it, with tranqs, spending money on things like a better electrified fence ETC, give em a special pen..needs more things like that, turn keeping your dinos into a mission in itself, no just "get these dinos that we've designed to be uncomfortable from square one and survive for 4 minutes" (the final science missions instantly springs to mind, every dino is designed to get angry.."balanced eco system" my arse), infact yeah if i could complain about anything it would be that a mission concists of an unthought out set of dinos and survive it for 4 minutes :/...The whole game is lovely but like most games, its been done till its fun NOT till its finished, you are not wrong on your words sir it needed more depth.
Probably the most underrated game I've ever played, it's literally gold
Nils is it really worth getting? It seems like it would get boring fast like the phone games
@@nukakayla7822 yeah of course, but I think it was less than £10 and possibly even free on some consoles. But there is something about making the best park, getting the best rating on different islands (each with different challenges) there's is also a weird storyline type dialogue that goes on that changes between each character based if you focus on entertainment, security or science. You can carry out research, send parties to different countries to pick up different fossils to get different dinosaurs for you park. You can go first person and look around at your dinosaurs which look great. It is very in depth and kept my interest for as long as any other game does 🙂
if you can get a good deal for it and you have an analytical brain, then take my word for it and grab it
Got the game at 75% off usd that was price at 20 dollars. I spent more money on the dlc then the game and i only did that because i liked the game. Your review scores are perfect btw.
While customization of buildings would have been amazing, Frontier could have circumvented it with releasing 10 to 20 new buildings since launch, we well one extra is not multiple skins of the same building. Other than that, I fully agree with a lot of the points, but really love this game.
Completely agreed. This review is incredible.
17:57 JPOG had better guest. I also enjoyed JPOG on both PC and console.
Sniper0092 yea but that game is near impossible to get now
I got the Dr. Wu DLC for the Troodons and Indomidus Camo, that’s it. (Oromo titan was a nice little sneak-in aswell) The Hybrids will never appear in any park I build simply because it’s defeating the purpose of the original park. They also just really don’t fit for me.
Like Skyrim, this game can be fix with mods, for example the Deinonychus, adding the Feather Dinosaurs Part 1 mod, really make justice to the real Deinonychus, I added other mods, like updated Spinosaurus, that update the dinosaurs for the 2020 findings, still limited to the engine, because it not allow to aquatic animals, but is a good model, other models I added for pure nostalgia, like T Rex Jurassic Park roars, and the Acrocanthosaurus Operation Genesis model mod.
The price is right now around 11$. Its a special offer till 25.05.2020
as someone who loves the game to bits and can look past the flaws, i can totally agree with most of your opinions. when the game shines, it really shines, but everything else is alright at best.
This was a beautiful, well-running game at launch, but it was disappointing to see the lack of ambition/direction, even lacking many of the features that made Operation Genesis great. A few features have been included in subsequent patches, but it's still sad to see so much untapped potential. The dinosaur updates are nice, but the gameplay itself needs to be reworked.
they did a great job on the dinosaur side but the guest aspect is sorely lacking, you just have to place the same 4 buildings to max guest satisfaction. any attractions and viewing platforms aren't required at all for a 5 star park. the game could also really benefit from more park decorations like statues you can place on paths, fountains/water features, signs (which they have in the RTJP pack), seating areas etc. at the moment it's just a selection of trees and rocks.
a custom island generator would be incredible since the ones we have are okay but a tad small (i have all the DLC) and with over 60 types of dinosaur, i'd love to display as many as possible without a paddock taking up huge chunks of space. sanctuary is probably the biggest and least hill-y, since uneditable hills cause lots of terrain constraints. you end up with a lot of tiny bits of blank grass between buildings because building placement is very restrictive.
idk, i love the game but there's such a strong sense of untapped potential that they either had to cut because of time or just didn't bother because they put their focus on the dinosaurs but a DLC i'd love to see is some form of water paddock creator for sea dinos!
Nice review dude.
I reckon there'll be one last dlc which will be water based Dino's and associated buildings.
This is a good review thanks for not just saying this game was as bad as IGN did
It was never the jpog sequel I wanted but it was a decent game. THEN, planet zoo came out and showed me the way :') I wish i could combine planet zoo and JWE
What I really want is better dinosaur AI and hopefully they would add aquatic dinosaurs and even maybe ice age like on the phone
Excellent review sir, thank you

Anyone remembers old game "Dino Island"? Loved it as a kid. :D
I believe ankylodocus, stegoceratops and spinoraptor had cameos in Lego Jurassic world indominus escape
Just stumbled onto this, but none of the hybrids were created by Frontier. Indo, Indom, and Stegoceratops were in the movies (Though the Stego was just shown on a computer screen), the others were part of those created by the toys and ludia for other Jurassic World projects...
I am aware of that, my point was Frontier's adaptations were pandering to the hybrid crowd which has generally always been a small niche in the community, the majority of which prefer more realistic representations of dinosaurs. I accepted Indominus Rex, Indoraptor and to some extent Stegoceratops because they were core film canon, the rest were not and its really debatable if they should be in the game, otherwise it opens an entire beehive with other hybrids from toylines and Ludia's mobile game.
I love the inclusion of the hybrids. Those things bring in major bank for your park.
A new DLC was just announced with the original Jurassic Park stuff for $20. Deluxe Edition is on sale for $20 on PS4 so I’m discouraged to pay it then have to double what I paid for a new dlc. But regardless, after watching your review I realize this game isn’t what I want it to be. I think I realized that on release and was being hopeful that it had changed for the better
What kind of game do you want Evolution to be exactly?
@@Nineteen1900Hundred
Quite possibly an upgrade to Operation Genesis. Currently JWE is only getting to par with OG.
Thanks!
1. dinosaur interaction is scripted
2. we still can’t build on the whole island
3. We cannot macro terraform the environment. IE make things like massive mountains, etc
These three things are what is holding this game back
lmaaaaoo its so much more than that, not just what you want. stop.
Glad i got it off FREE on Epic, started playing a day with 10 hours and im hooked!
Here’s my compromise for the new return to Jurassic park DLC not being in this video.
Just consider it a MAJOR and AMAZING addition to the game for all Jurassic Park fans, who want just a little more of the original park in their world.
at least they added flying reptile
theirs a reason why i didn't say reptiles
The game still needs to improve but is far better from what it used to be. Unfortunately, the mess at launch is so bad, that it won't ever be worth that $60 price tag. In contrast, anything new Frontier adds is a welcome addition. I hope Frontier takes note of the DLC prices and content. As there is only two and both of them are questionably high. Dinosaur packs are alright though.
Great review. Call me subscribed 👍
Unfortunately for me, my framerate dips from 50 to 30 when I reach 300 dinos
Got this game for free on the EGS, so I'm pretty satisfied
It's free to own as I write.
Only on Xbox
Think we'll get an ultimate edition of this game with all the DLC in the game?
Yes, maybe there will be one to bundle with the supposed 93 DLC end of the year and the new packs released that have not been included since the Premium Edition.
There's a bundle out now and you get everything cheap
Got the game for 9 bucks, will see if I ever get around to playing it.
@Toni_ K Played for like 20 minutes and came to the conclusion that I'll never be able to get through the campaign (it wasn't particularly exciting). I just wanted to build a park with everything unlocked.
Hey have you heard about the news of the jurassic park DLC and what do think of it? plus the free dlc that also comes out?
Free? Everything cost $$ from what I've seen something free would be awesome as feels like half content was intentionally left out to get micro transaction afterwards probably not but I just got it for free so I'm happy with game but I see loads of stuff that is still available but cost money so giving game away for free is great but when I have to spend 20$-40$ to get everything start wondering is this intentional lol
travis stewart you have to pay $180 for everything unless you got the base game for free. They’re assholes, they should’ve made the old jp skins as challenges instead of paying $20
Funny that a game is complete these days 1 year after launch.
I like this game a lot. I might even prefer it to planet zoo for two reasons. Building is much faster. And there is a forest brush. No more placing individual trees!
Should i buy the 20 or 40 dollar edition
Really wish there was oceanic dinosaurs :/ looks awesome tho I would get it on PC. Kinda seems like it would flow better with keyboard and mouse.
This game and its sequal are the definitive jurassic world games. I am looking at you jurassic world the game
Here are my ratings for the base game and dlc.
Base game:
Presentation 10/10: the game looks amazing with very little presentation issues.
Animals: 8/10: with the addition of the pteranodon it feels much more complete with my only wants being mosasaurus and dimorphodon but the animal AI is still lacking.
Campaign: 4/10: a lackluster campaign with a few good scenarios sprinkled in the parks like the money rush in tacaño or the wild dinosaurs on sorna I say it it a more forgettable experience.
Gameplay: 7/10: this game works with controls but the limitations of the game really keep it from being amazing.
Customization: 4/10: customization is underwhelming with seemingly the only thing you can customize is the island your on and the dinosaurs you can create.
Post release 8/10: very nice support for the game with a lot of great changes to the games mechanics including scenery help the game a lot in gameplay.
Dlc:
Deluxe dinosaur pack: 6/10: some good and some bad dinosaurs even it out for me with a little bit more good dinosaurs than bad.
Secrets of dr wu: 4/10 with decent regular dinosaurs but the hybrids really bring it down for me and with the islands and story being underwhelming.
Cretaceous dinosaur pack: 8/10 great dinosaurs with iguanodon and charcharadontosaurus are let down by the underwhelming dreadnogtus.
Carnivore dinosaur pack: 9/10: a truly wonderful pack with three great carnivore only let down by lack of interesting skins for the herrasaurus.
Claire saunctuary: 10/10 a good story with three great dinosaurs, two large maps, and new fun paleobotany mechanic my favorite story dlc.
Herbivore dinosaur pack: 10/10 three great dinosaur with great skins and completely unique animations a great pack all around.
Raptor skin pack: 6/10: four great skins for the movie raptors but is let down by the fact you have to pay for this dlc instead of getting it free.
Return to Jurassic park: 8/10 great new skins with the addition of pteranodon and a new great era, but a lack of other new dinosaurs and a ok story.
Final verdict 8/10: one of my favorite games but is let down by a few main factors.
It's makes me feel very happy that I've been able to play this game on my PlayStation 4 and on the physical copy of game, I have been waiting for this game since it was announced because I wanted a similar game to Jurassic Park operation Genesis since it was hard to buy currently.

So at this point, will you even consider getting the 2021 sequel if that does indeed happen?
I will definitely be buying a sequel anyway because my love of dinosaurs will always outweigh my criticism of the game. And this game isn't bad in my view anyway, its just mediocre. I hope Frontier improves for any possible sequel though.

Have they worked on the Dino A.I at all in the last year since this review was released? I'm thinking about picking up the game and all the dlc together on sale for $30
Not really no. Development ceased after the Return to Jurassic Park DLC was released, so a little over a year ago.
@@ReviewGen Ah well that sucks. On a positive note I went ahead and picked the Jurassic Park edition of the game up for 66% off and I'm loving it so far. Very relaxing game after I figured out how to properly use the power system, getting power to everything was a pain the first few hours.
Despite the a.i goes forward in rapid pace, we do not really see that in games for some reason.
Actually some of the dinosaurs appeared in mobile games or novels.
Park: Kills guests everyday
Guests: This is fine
I'm playing a download via Playstation Online Store in August 2020 on the PS4 (not Pro). Played it for three days, meanwhile it crashed already 5 times. Not that much fun when crashing that often. Apart from that I like it, but this Level of instability (still after two years of updating) is not ok.
People were always going to have exceedingly high expectations of a game like this, especially with the success from Operation Genesis. They didn’t need to add a whole lot from Operation Genesis, they just needed to bring the mechanics, graphics and UI into this decade.
I’ll agree that more dinosaurs, buildings and mechanics always helps, but seeing some form of “Hybrid Generator” would’ve pushed this game to another level. The whole theme of the Jurassic World film was people creating their own dinosaur because the awe factor of the “normal” ones began to subside and become normal to see. I agree with others that say pack hunting, communicating and real time fights should be in the game. Turn based headbutting is just lazy, let alone the fact that you know the higher stat dinosaur will always win.
All in all, Great ideas - but poorly executed.
This is the most recent comment, so I’ll just ask u lol. Do u personally think the game is worth the price? It’s on sale rn so I’m tempted on getting it but I also am pretty late from its release

Gamer Empire, now that Jurassic World 3 will be released in 2021,will the new dinosaurs that will appear in the movie also added as DLC or Update in JW:E?
Im thinking DLC. Nasutoceratops was released free but that was just a short film reference. And Fallen Kingdom dinos were known to be free before launch anyway.
You mean it's possible to happen in JW:E after the 2021 movie is released?
PANOS KARYDIS
I think they might actually release a sequel in 2021 and those species will likely be part of that game. Most likely pterosaurs and aquatic reptiles too.
Ok.
How about fix the dinosaur behaviors first.
It's a Tycoon Game. What did you expect? Most tycoon games fall to these same problems. It's not about the dinosaurs. It's about the Park. That's why it's a Theme Park Building Game.
Thanks! It's on sale atm on the PS store. But I'll pass.

I never bothered getting it before, even though I was a little excited. My Mate jumped on it when it came out. He actually liked it. I was like eh... But never played. I saw the new Zoo game out recently and wanted to play. But I feel weird encouraging Zoos. Dino zoos are okay though :P So I'll give this a whirl while the Steam sale is on. Glad they've added a lot since launch and that I haven't had to have my experience tainted by the early bugs etc.
Free on Epic Games Store now
Most of the issues are caused by the game being on consoles. If it had been a PC exclusive we would have more deeper gameplay, better terrain tools, larger areas to build on more customization and so on. The amount of customization in the Planet Zoo beta is pretty amazing. You can see a lot of the effects from JWE in that game as well. Like the lighting and so on. The blue speckles when you look up at the sun are very similar to what you see in JWE. Consoles can't handle much. The game is already pushing it I imagine. Everything needs to be done by the hardware, the CPU handles the calculations and the consoles have pretty weak APU's. Things like herding, AI and animations would all be calculations and if they were to involved they would strain the weak CPU's. Also comparing this game to Planet Coaster and any other PC exclusive titles of the same genre is a waste of time and people should knock it off cause they known that this game is not a PC only title. The other games made by Frontier don't suffer from this so it's not incompetence problem. They know how to make good games. I also suspect time played a factor in the game. Since they only had a little over a year to work on the game and wanted to get it released in time with JWFK. It sounds like a lot of people expected things that Frontier never promised. Also it seems some people had some unrealistic expectations. I know some fell for speculative hype from some UA-camrs. If the game hadn't been on consoles as well we may have never seen it.
Absolutely not. With gigantic games like RDR2 on consoles, your argument is useless dogshit.

Totally different games though.
RDR2 has much less button mapping, and a controlled load areas, JWE is a constant simulation with a lot of moving parts.

Sorry, did he says Spinosaurus isn't a canon dinosaur and that Frontier added it in for some diversity? Has he watched the Jurassic Park movies?
When did I say that. I think you misheard Spinoraptor.
@@ReviewGen Ah, yes, my bad. Sorry!
