Finally someone gives credit to the novel. T-rex couldn't see unmoving objects, because of the frog's DNA. This tiny detail was absent in all the movies.
I think it wasn't until the 4th movie that any of the scientists onscreen actually admit that all of Ingen's dinosaurs are in some ways different from the actual creatures due to the DNA substitution, such as a lack of feathers on some dinos now understood to be feathered, though in JP2 they did conclude that the Dinos were able to mate because the frog DNA gave them the ability to change genders like some frogs can do. I think Dr Wong mentions that most of the created dinos actually appear quite different from the base animal due to the DNA substitution while defending the creation of Indomitus as "bigger and more scary" for the crowds who can have somehow become bored with the other dinosaurs.
@@donnierust4740 Can't tell you the exact page, cause my book isn't in English and probably isn't the same. Look for that part after the T-rex breakout, where Dr Grant sees the hadrosaur. In my edition it's around page 298. Forth iteration. It's the second chapter that is called THE PARK. I believe Dr Grant mentions frog's DNA for the first time in third iteration, chapter BREEDING SITES. Since then he continues looking for connections between dino's and amphibian's behaviour.
They are wrong, they never say it was frog DNA in the novel that causes their bad sight, it is simply a paleontology theory of Grants in Jurassic Park. Crichton had bad information and even retcons the Tyrannosaur's sight issues in the Lost World as the rex either being confused by the rain or not hungry. The erroneous info in novel is attributed to a fictional Paleontologist named John Roxton(a character from the original lost world book).
People give Jurassic a lot of hate for their inaccuracies, but the rex was actually pretty darn accurate for the time. Even by today's standards it really isn't that bad. This edit is to specify that I was talking about it's physical design. Not speed, eyesight etc
I think having a 40 ft T Rex silently walk up to you and "roar" at you with you not hearing anything but wind as your whole body starts to vibrate from the infrasound is a lot more terrifying than the stomping, trumpeting entrance we get in the movies.
Lion roars are far different from potential t rex roars. Lions actually have vocal cords. Their roar could rupture your ear drums, definitely, but the t rex would be at a whole different level. It's larger and would likely have much greater lung capacity due to the lungs of therapods/birds being very efficient at absorbing oxygen. It would have a throat sac like modern birds, maybe not as prominent but still there. It would use this to make low frequency sounds. If you've heard a cassowary call, you'd know how it sends vibrations throughout your body. Now imagine that scaled up to t rex size. Would be devastating. Wouldn't even need to open its mouth.
I love how with every single passing year, the notion of the T-rex being the ultimate predator the planet earth have ever seen becomes more and more a fact.
@@eliminator1472 same, goated dinosaur, would love to see one juvenile, their iq is heavily underrated aswell, some compared them to modern day chimps, which i think is exaggerated, but they were still pretty damn smart. we know for a fact that crocodilians are not as stupid as we thought, they can learn an array of tricks and actually grow onto some people, trex was likely a very smart reptile, they also had social behaviour, and a good environmental awarness.
The films would be very different all because of the stealth. More so horror than action. The fact that this beast is far heavier, and yet so much more silent, is downright unimaginable. Much smaller beasts like tigers already pose immense threat to humans, something like a T. Rex could just devour us in droves.
Imagine the scene with the water ripples but its actually the trex hunting the humans with their deep vocal movements making movements in the ground. I thought that was the current theory with trex sounds but i could be wrong

If you take Prehistoric Planet to heart, T.Rex could also apparently comfortably swim long distances, possibly the only place a tyrannosaur would be remotely vulnerable. But if that's the case, well...I don't know if it was an _enclosure_ in Jurassic World, but if it was just a bunch of islands, a realistic T.Rex would have been wandering from sanctuary to sanctuary, searching for food and better ground. Goes to show just one more reason big theropods basically achieved world domination for a while!
Have I got a fun fact for you. So about 120 years ago when these giants fossils were discovered and people didn't know that some fossil finds were the same species as previous samples, T-Rex actually had three names: Manospondylus, _Dynamosaurus_ and lastly, _Tyrannosaurus Rex_ So it turned out these three were the same and the scientists had to decide which one. _Tyrannosaurus Rex_ was chosen as even the people 120 years ago knew that it felt awesome to say. Second fun fact: Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of the only animals on earth that the mainstream uses the full scientific name for.
@@Jordaniantrex I got you, fam. So _Manospondylus Gigas_ means "Giant Porous Vertebrae". Boring name, I know, but it's simply because they haven't found the skull with that rather fragmented specimen and did not know that it was a Rex. In fact, they thought that it was a Ceratopsian. If I recall correctly, T-Rex was still an unknown dinosaur at this point (only in 1900 would the skull be discovered and this find dates back to 1896, I believe). So in that 1900 find (going off memory here, so I might be wrong) there were two fossils which they thought were from different species (again, it wasn't complete skeletons and cleaning and piecing together the fossils are a huge undertaking, especially if you have no idea what the animal looked like). The one was named _Dynamosaurus Imperiosus._ _Dynamo_ means "powerful" and Imperiosus means roughly the same. Other synonyms can include "master", "Ruler" or "dictator". So "Ruler of the powerful dinosaurs" perhaps? The other specimen is the one that stood out. The skull was very well preserved and absolutely blew the finder away when he saw it. Upon seeing those jaws, those teeth and that menacing face, he named it _Tyrannosaurus Rex._
The fact that the real life T-Rex most likely had the best vision of any terrestrial animal to ever exist means there would be no running or hiding from Rexy in real life.
Wasn't the eyesight thing explained as being caused by the frog DNA in the book? I might be misremembering the book, but I know toads have motion based vision.
@@Mirthful_Midori So I looked up frog vision and this is what I found. Frogs only see well at far distances. This means that they are farsighted. Also they are very receptive to movement, but that doesn't mean they can only see things that move. So yes kind of. In the book it mentioned frog dna being the cause, but even that wasn't completely accurate, as it made it sound as if though frogs were completely blind in the absence of motion. In fact if the t rex vision is based on frogs, then it would be able to easily see you from a far distance, but have blurry vision up close. However, it should still be able to see you to some degree.
Also believed to have one of the best smelling abilities too, allowing it to smell any other predator's kills within miles and show up to bully the other predator away from it's kill. Of course that also makes it even harder to hide from it as well.

I really love this analysis as it goes to show why people shouldn’t complain so much about inaccuracies. InGen were not making fully accurate dinosaurs and the dinosaurs they made were mishmashed with other animal DNA causing some major side effects that would hinder them to their full potential. Even Masrani’s dinosaurs were just as mishmashed.
This is important to remember. I also recall in the book Jurassic Park, Dr. Wu talks about how they made the dinosaurs slower because it seemed so odd to see such large animals moving so fast. They were always making what they thought people would pay to see, not just what was real. Of course, Jurassic World doubles down on it with Indominus Rex.
It's like what Alan Grant said in Jurasic Park III: "Now, what John Hammond and InGen did at Jurassic Park is create genetically engineered, theme park monsters. Nothing more, and nothing less."

From what I've seen from the predator dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs weren't old enough to have had much experience in fighting. Coming up against a natural T-Rex would have suicide. The real deal would have been way too experienced for even the most powerful of them. In some cases they might not even see it until it was too late to even think.
Can we take into account that Rexy is bred in captivity and they use an accelerated growth rate. Physically it is an adult but mentally she isn't. I agree with you about the fact that the real T-Rex is rather terrifying and with new studies showing up. They are narrowing down things real fast

To be fair, they even said in the movie that most of the dinosaurs would probably look different if their genetic code were pure, but they had to fill in gaps with DNA from other animals
Regarding that, I was thinking how the Jurassic World series could've established a plot point that InGen learned how to extract more information from the Dinosaurs' genetic code, giving them fewer gaps to fill with other animal's DNA. This could in turn, could've provided an in-universe explanation to update the newer dinosaurs to look more accurate compared to the older films.
Honestly I'd love to see a rex in JP actually win a fight against another carnivore. Like without some stupid outside help but with all that, it's likely never to happen.
The closest thing to that happening is in Camp Cretaceous: Hidden Adventure, where you can have Rexy confront the Tarbosaurus instead of Toro. Rexy ends up tripping and falling first. But when she gets up later and continues the fight, she manages to overpower the Tarbosaurus without any help from other dinosaurs.

And to the Rexy is win allone that is too late for Universal. They humulate the Jurassic T-rexes enought, to the fans (who only watched that, and don't know much from dinos) literely the bigger part of Jirassic fanbase, was think the other big carnivire is even weaker than the Jurassic rexes. That will not Rexes strenght, the will the opponent weakness will be. So the ONLY way to show rexes strong, but not the opponent weak as hell is the killing the today's generation T-rexes (include Rexy) modify the genome to the original, and release that, and that will be strong. Universal as I said went too far to show T-rexes weaker than any other big predator.
I agree with all of this, although I would make one addition in the hypothetical situation that the car chase scene does happen. Recent studies of the Rex metatarsal bones shows that the three were fused together, creating a foot structure comparable to animals evolved for long distance running. The compactness meant that energy loss in each step was minimal and perfectly adapted for running at full speed for a considerable time. This heavily suggests that Rex’s were long distance runners, able to outrun any potential prey, considering the majority did not have this sort of bone structure. Applying this to the car chase scene, I think Rexy would’ve just followed them all the way back to the compound, instead of just giving up, ultimately killing them all once they ran out of road.
Just like humans, we are just now the greatest long-distance runners of all extant mammals, and the apex predator of all ecosystems (except maybe by deep oceans), so, can that be extrapolated to t-rex in terms of intelligence too? Since humans are also the most intelligent mammals and the ones with the most developmented abatraction ability.

The T-Rex is the reverse of what science usually does when explaining things: most of the time animals that were incorrectly researched become less threatening due to finding out that parts that were seen as dangerous weren't actually so. Except for the T-Rex which seems to only become scarier the more accurately it's learned about.
Funnily enough, there has been a proposed Tyrannosaurus subspecies called T-Imperator, so a scientist did suggest an Emperor version of the thing at one point.

Think about Smilodon fatalis vs populator. the latter had minimal to no competition (except each other) and grew to huge sizes after migrating to south America and its prey profile was different too compared to fatalis which had serious competition in north America from other massive predators. Though there was abundant prey fatalis remained lion sized. in trex case, it would be interesting to see what its competition was plus prey profile region wise. i believe that some tyrannosaurs like albertosaurus didn't grow to large sizes where deinosuchus was present. but thats not trex. Utah raptor (in a group) could have been competition for a lone or juvenile trex but not otherwise
I have always thought that the T. Rex in Jurassic was based off of one of the more gracile morphs of the Tyrannosaur species. While Rexy definitely has some embellishments in her design, I still think she is pretty good as a “genetically engineered, theme park monster”, being based off a real animal.
I was just happy that they made the distinction reasonably clear instead of leaving it out and/or intentionally misleading the audience for the sake of getting all those juicy juicy angry comments, granted the video is literally on "real" t-rex vs jurrasic park t-rex but even then I expected them not to mention that the jurrasic park rexes are theme park attractions and in no way real viable animals even in-universe.
I have seen speculation that the Jurassic Park animals were malnourished. They possess prominent "shrink-wrapping", which most dinosaurs in media are (inaccurately) shown to have. But Jurassic Park...was not a very good zoo. Keeping a multi-ton predator on an island fed and at a health weight would be difficult.
Ironically, Rexy was created to _challenge_ the public's expectations of dinosaurs (as tail-dragging morons) - she was never supposed to end up gatekeeping them.
@@HowlingWolf518 that leads me to one question. Dinosaurs are birdlike build so the posture changed dramatically during the ears of researches. However birds don't have heavy tails. Assuming those enormous bones and muscles were constantly lifted above the ground is a bit too much for me to believe. Dragging the tail every once in a while wouldn't affect the balance of the posture. It would save energy. Every animal on earth with a tail that weighs more than feathers, keep the tail down when just walking. Cats, comodo dragons... Wouldn't it be possible if the new appearance is a bit exaggerated? If the t-rex had been more realistic in Jurassic Park, it is likely that hybrids with its DNA (like the Indominus Rex) would be heavier, more agile and with a stronger bite, which would lead to even more powerful creatures...

@@greatestnitemare6626 absolutely not, I-Rex is extremely aggressive and strong but very inexperienced. A real T-rex is extremely strong and built not only for ambush hunting prey but, also built to fight their own kind. Most T-rexes are experienced in fighting larger dinosaurs, especially their own weight class. Indominous weighed only about 12,000 pounds, most adult rexes weighed about 11,000 pounds and could even grow up to 15,000 pounds, the heaviest T-rex, Scotty, was almost 20,000 pounds. A real T-rex had quite the turning speed and was stated in many papers to actually be quite agile. They also have one of the largest brains in large therapods, so, although likely not as smart as I-Rex, T-rex would be smart enough not to run head-first into I-Rex. Speed likely goes to I-Rex, but strength immediately goes to T-rex, T-rex likely had a stronger bite force because the I-Rex would have sacrificed some bite strength for longer arms and snout. Although you could make the argument that I-Rex has a similar bite force because it is a Hybrid, but strength still goes to T-rex for the simple fact that most of its weight was just muscle. Agility goes to T-Rex because it has a tighter turning area and likely could out-manuever I-Rex however it would likely be a close one given I-Rex's own agility. Intelligence goes to I-Rex, obviously, but, experience goes to T-Rex as they likely have fought more battles with other Rexes their size. Durability and Endurance could probably go either way, but I would probably lean more towards the T-Rex as it is on average the heavier animal and it likely had feathers which would help with durability. In a real fight, the Indominous would probably have the upper hand initially, but eventually, the T-rex with more experience will slowly win the fight as it is stronger and more durable. But in real life, a T-Rex would have likely avoided confrontation with the Indominous or have ambushed it, likely unsuccessfully, and then retreated. (A real T-rex would prioritize energy cost and would likely walk away if the cost was greater than the reward gained.) In a fight to the death, if the T-rex somehow missed all of its killing shots and instead fought the I-Rex in endurance and strength only, the T-Rex would have still won, but, would have died from injuries shortly after. 9 times out of 10 the T-rex would likely win in a real fight. (I forgot to mention stealth, the T-Rex was way more stealthy than initially believed, and had very quiet footsteps, although I-Rex probably could sniff it out the T-rex would have already known the I-Rex was in the vicinity because of its strong nose and great eyesight. The I-rex would likely not have heard the T-Rex approaching because the T-rex, despite its size, has quiet footsteps and would not have made much noise while tracking the I-Rex. Although, the I-Rex is stealthy as well and likely could have hidden itself for an ambush.)

@luksius_dk thats not true.. spino ate fish and in recent studies it used its jaw to catch and just carry the fish or just eat it. The rex is way too bulky for its neck to be snapped, the muscles and fats are too thick for the spino. The spino snapped the rex's neck by 1: rex being a sub adult and 2: plot.
The T-Rex was in my eyes the equivalent of a hammer in terms if simplicity. A hammer is a handle and a bonky bit on the end, you don’t need to add anything to it. A T-Red is a pair of legs and a big mouth, you don’t need to add anything to it. That’s why it was so effective.
and according to the past 2 decades of discoveries it's a pretty heavy hammer. Big mouth, legs and enough weight to throw around anything it encounters.
The T-Rex was more or less built like a colossally sized Skyrim sneak attacker: it silently kills anything in one hit...because everything about it evolved to combine stealth with a giant mouth delivering a single death bite.
There was an even more gruesome scene in The Lost World book, where the adult trex literally crippled a man to feed to his young. Not kill, but cripple it so that the babies could practice hunting and killing their own prey

If a film was done with an accurate T Rex of the size of Sue then that would be one hell of a horror movie. Imagine running from a spinosaurus only for it to be unceremoniously and brutally killed in front of you by a silent hulking beast of a T Rex, that then focuses on you. You cannot hide, you cannot run, you cannot dodge and outflank it and you cannot even hear it approach until it is too late. A truly terrifying predator.
Yeah. A horror movie about accurate dinosaurs on a rainy, thundering island at night (most dinosaurs were nocturnal) with dinosaurs constantly stalking and hunting the protagonists (all while making quiet noises and bird-like noises.) would be terrifying
I would actually love an accurate tyrannosaurus for cinema but there's not a thing wrong with an artistic interpretation of dinosaurs either. A blend of accuracy and artistic touch is what makes cinematic dinosaurs live and breathe. Edit: another thing about an adult tyrannosaurus. Imagine if you did out run it. It could use its sense of smell to track you down for miles wasting very little energy keeping up the pace while you are exhausting yourself trying to keep one step ahead. If you were trying to hide they could use the juveniles sort of like hunting dogs to flush you out of cover and into their open jaws.
I feel like it wouldn't waste its time if it's an adult. After, all, assuming this is still taking place in Isla Nublar, it's on an island with much more plentiful food.
@ultimazilla9814 yeah unless it hadn't had it's fill and was starving I think it'd only chase smaller prey like humans unless there wasn't any other options. The juveniles on on the other claw would probably see it as a bit of practice with an easy meal at the end.
You forgot the T. Rex sense of smell. Remember in the second movie when Dr. Sarah Harding mentioned that T. Rex could track smells from over 10 miles away just like Turkey Vultures? T. Rex actually can do that in real life, if I remember correctly.
I love how faithful this video is to science, you even cite papers (though you don't name them, as it's an entertainment video, and that would be absurd and slow things down) But you do credit a consultant in the comments. After watching this, now I want a remake of the entire Jurassic franchise with paleo-accurate dinosaurs. But don't get me wrong, I know they didn't have as much info about them at the time (I'm looking at you spino) but still, it would be cool to see.
@@sphere7158The remake(s) will most likely be a scene-by-scene and dialogue-by-dialogue recreation of the original two novels, but taking place in the far future (like, say, 3000) and humanity having the means to time-travel to bring extinct animals to their time.
I want to see an accurate Giga; Giganotosaurus was actually a lot for formidable than most people (who are aware of Rex’s adaptations but not of Giga’s) give it credit for, and too often it’s dismissed as being “inferior” to Tyrannosaurus when in reality it’s an equally capable and impressive predator that just has different strengths and weaknesses.
The more we learn about Tyrannosaurus, the more and more it seems perfectly suited for a horror movie. This deadly hunter than can see from 5 miles away and smell you from 10 miles away before you know it’s even there. You can try to run but even if it just walked towards you it’d have no trouble catching up on its noise cancelling padded feet. And once it catches you in their jaws, that’s it, whatever she spits out is gonna have the consistency of ground beef with those railroad spike teeth and car crushing jaws. T.rex is the ultimate slasher villain and the only way you could have it be some sort of underdog was if it was a younger individual.
I always saw the first Jurassic Park film as a horror film. Tho not your typical slasher film as the killers are escaped genetical altered zoo animals. It's my favorite horror film.
That was Michael Crichton's intent for his series, but Steven Spielberg turned it into an action-adventure franchise. Now I respect Spielberg a lot and I get where he was going with the decision: respecting how kids see dinosaurs and not wanting to take that sense of wonder away, but...geez. This would have been one of the best horror franchise had they stayed to Crichton's vision. Even with the amount of information he had back in 1980s, he still recognized the reality of what it would actually be like if dinosaurs and humans lived in the same world. It would *not* be a good one. These animals are far smarter and more adapted to kill in ways we don't give them enough credit for.
Another fun thing to consider about the Rex is its 'tiny' arms have been modeled to musculature able to casually move figures in the hundreds of pounds, and so could have been a huge value for its day-to-day logistics. More than enough strength to move just about all foliage short of full-grown trees, it would have been able to easily dig out comfortable pits to sleep and rest in. And while laying down in such hypothetical pits, it could capitalize on its subsonic hearing, getting a good read on all of its surroundings similar to "putting an ear to the ground." Combine that with their stealth, they probably enjoyed many serendipitous ambush opportunities along the way to anywhere their ample olfactory senses guided them.
I love T-Rex. It's been my favorite since I was a kid, watching old claymation, tail dragging, slow moving T-Rexes stomp across the tv screen. Finding out the real animal was even more bad-ass just makes my millenium! Thank you. I really loved seeing the velociraptor and the human just explode when Sue chomps down on them! @@undeadking420 Did you even watch the video? Are you genuinely knowledgeable about dinosaurs, or do you have a strong bias towards the Spinosaurus? In reality, the Spinosaurus would likely lose in various scenarios. One aspect often overlooked is its prominent fin/dorsal plate, making it susceptible to attacks from other apex predators.

I loved the first JP movie, and the Rex is still my favorite dinosaur, but with all of the info that’s been shared since the movie, it’s mind blowing to see how much it’s changed. I still sometimes forget that these were real creatures, living lives, and doing stuff. Part of me wishes that we could still observe them somehow(from a safe distance, of course)

Also, a teenage T Rex can outrun you with speed, but a grown T Rex can track you down for 3 miles or more, all done silently.
The fact that The Lost World Jurassic Park wasn't changed in this video shows how well and animalistic they portrayed the T. rex as a species. Also, how respectful they were in portraying the T. rex.
Ever since I thought about it, the concept of something the size of a T Rex making a rumble/hiss like an alligator or crocodile is somehow scarier than it bellowing like in JP.
I'm tired of seeing our beloved Rexy and her kind getting nerf in the movies, thank you for giving the Real T-Rex it's true capabilities it deserves. Also the accurate T-Rex already killed all the characters during the stranded on the paddock scene in Jurassic Park
I think the only ways the characters could survive the paddock scene, against an accurate T. rex, would be if the animal was more curious than hungry towards them and/or was distracted by the tropical storm going on around them. That would at least fit Michael Crichton's attempted retcon in the second novel, where the T. rex was suggested to have merely been disinterested by a motionless human, rather than blind to it.
An accurate Trex would not give a single shit about us, a less than 80kg snack is not worth the energy to catch it when you are a 8-9 tons predator. (Size of most Trex if we dont count the « big » ones) An accurate Trex would actually be less dangerous than all other carnivore from the Jurassic series since its an animal an not a blood thirsty movie monster.
The paleo accurate Tyrannosaurus would still lose to these large theropods in the Jurassic verse. It's been shown and confirmed that the Tyrannosaurus had the same bite force, intelligence and turn radius. Rexy, Bull and Big Eatie have shown great abilities to that.

I read an article around the time Fallen Kingdom came out, that the filmmakers asked Jurassic Park fans if the T-rex should be changed to a more up to date, accurate appearance. All the fans responded No, leave her as she is. Which I'm glad they kept her the same. She wasn't made from 100% dinosaur DNA, so it makes sense for her not to be accurate in appearance or behaviour. As Alan Grant said "They are genetically modified, theme park monsters. Nothing more, nothing less."
I love videos like this as they make me hyped and absolutely terrified to learn more about just what an actual T-Rex was like and glad it's extinct as it was basically just a massive cross between a tiger, eagle, and a saltwater croc. A T-Rex that's accurate in accordance with today's research would be absolutely terrifying and needs to be put into a movie asap.

In the Michael Crichton novel, I don't recall T. rex being included on the list of InGen dinosaurs that were recreated using frog DNA. Frogs were only used to fill in the gaps for some of the dinosaurs, with more reptile/avian DNA being used for the rest. Having all the dinosaurs utilize the frog genes was a more from the movie version. Red Raptor Writes pointed this out to illustrate how the T. rex's eyesight being a result of the frog DNA was not likely Crichton's original intention, even if it would make perfect sense at first glance.
May not have been the frog DNA but I remember them mentioning something about how something went wrong during the cloning that caused it's sight to get worse through age.
Actually in the Official Books they never Used frog DNA there is a Little list on one page werre you see, the frog DNA is only Used on some few Dinosaurs. But not all And the List not Containing T-rex
If an accurate Hell Creek T. rex was in the Jurassic franchise, there'd be no need for the Spino, I. rex or Giga to challenge it because its a foregone defeat for all of them. Best keep Spino as an aquatic hunter and make Giga a sauropod hunter.

My favorite thing about the Tyannos is that T. Rex had a weird call when it was getting ready to kill and was already eating on a body. It's from a further developed tentadum drum (a layer of flesh in the ear canal that is able to pick up really deep vibrations), and both the Sue Exhibit and Studio's YT channel showed that this call ended up being so horrifying it would stun prey including their own young at a last resort. Listen to the audio with your ears covered over and your eyes closed, with volume all the way up. It is super heavy and in weird huffs.

A fully paleo accurate T.rex that was the same size as Rexy, but possess all of the bulk and muscle that the real animal did, the absolutely tremendous bite force, the super potent binocular vision, the incredible nose, the insane dinosaur intelligence, and other finely tuned and acute senses that it wielded would be the indisputable apex predator in Jurassic Park/World. Obviously it’s still an animal so it wouldn’t be an OP monster, but it would be damn close. Tyrannosaurus Rex was the PEAK of dinosaur evolution, it was the zenith, and nothing else came close. There’s a reason why they dominated for so long, and the more we find out about them, the more insane they become.
Easy to say so when its like 7 time for studied than any other giant theropod… A puzzle in which we have more pieces will always look more interesting/complete than the one in which only a few pieces were found. Trex is also way less « Ancient » than other mega theropod while being incredibly well adapted to his environment. This and the fact that it had no competitor of similar size add to Trex’s success. People tend to over exaggerate this dinosaur pretty often these time… mixing a bunch of scientific theories together while ignoring those who say otherwise is not a rare sight. But this phenomenon is not new nor exclusive to the « dinosaur » theme…
But as mentioned in JW the ones in movies were not actually similar to the real dinosaurs because the gaps in their genomes were filled with different animals… soo the dinosaurs that were in movies were not true dinosaurs

Just discovered this channel and after watching this and a few others, while the voice acting is a bit cheesy it honestly fits well with the vibe of these videos and it's honestly kind of refreshing to see scientific accuracy and realistic animal behavior go into these types of movie/fight analysis.

According to the timeline, the first prehistoric animals were cloned in 1986, so by 1993, the maximum age for any dinosaurs in the Park would have been 7 years old. T-Rex could live for well over 20 years so the animals in the movie obviously have not had time to grow to the maximum potential size for the species.
In defence to the movies, the Rex was hunting for the infants in Lost World rather than itself. And the Rex, as well as all the other dinos, had an added DNA strain to help them grow faster so as to fill the park faster

In the Lost World book they sort of debunked the "t-rex cant see you if you don't move" theory, saying that while Grant thought that was the case, research had progressed since then. They proposed that she probably could see Grant, but chose not to eat him because she'd just been fed a goat.

Seeing a lot of paleontologist revisionism on the t. rex over the years made the dinosaur fanatic within me very sad, but with more evidence supporting that the ol' tyrant lizard king was indeed the apex predator on land, I'm filled with a bunch of childlike excitement. I find it ironic that the JP/JW T.Rex hunts more like a Carcha or Tarbo then an actual T.Rex. I'm glad it's generally understood that the movies could undersell certain dinosaurs and Rex is no exception which is shocking considering how threatening they already are in the series. The real rex was a sneakier and chonkier monster of an animal.

@@VYDEOS2 Sorry to burst your bubble, but contrary to what you might think, not all paleo-behaviour is under the same level of speculation. In fact, some aspects we have actual good idea from the actual fossils themselves. The idea the real T. rex was actually a silent and sneaky stalker for example is supported by the fact it has toe pads based on the footprint that the video brought up. The hypothesis it has good vision able to see in even low-light conditions? Having the largest eyes of any terrestrial animal based on its eye sockets, binocular, and scans of its brain cavity supports having great eyesight. Its puncture and pull feeding method (and potential way to dispatch prey too)? Feeding traces from bite marks left on the bones of their prey animals. Face-biting behaviour? Direct fossil evidence of bite marks on their faces. Juveniles being much more speedier and nimble (thus having different prey)? Supported by the overall anatomy of the juvenile T. rexes we have. As you can see, while we can't deduce every behaviour it could have had from the fossils alone, there is still a fair amount we still can deduce from the fossils alone.

From a super underrated movie, I think you guys should put the Dragons (they are really Wyverns) from Reign Of Fire against the White Spikes, given both managed to nearly drive humanity extinct in a very short period of time. I love you guys and really want to bring attention back to these amazing nightmare inducing creatures!
The term “dragon” is so broad it can apply to any flying fire-breathing reptile, modern fantasy sometimes makes distinctions between the different depictions of dragons but legends and folklore uses terms such as dragon, wyvern and wyrm interchangeably. That’s why many cultures have their own legends about dragons, it’s because we have such a broad definition of what a dragon is.
Whenever I get the chance, I always like to mention this. Book T-Rex might’ve actually been able to perfectly see stationary targets. In the Lost World Ian Malcolm explains that Grant had a realization after their time on the island explaining that the reason the Rex didn’t attack him during the jeep encounter was because it had already eaten, didn’t consider them a threat (compared to the jeeps) and was overall rather confused on why they weren’t running away, constantly trying to intimidate them by growling, roaring and getting close to them. To prove the point, Ian was saying this because Dogson and his men decided to freeze up whilst stealing Rex eggs when the parents saw them, I think y’all can guess what happens next. I do like to think that this might have been a retroactive retcon made by Crichton, that might have affected the way the Rex was displayed in the movies. Cause besides the jeep scene, there isn’t a single time where the don’t move a muscle gag actually seems to work. And even when it seems to, just like in the book, it can still be chalked up as the Rex just losing interest, getting distracted by something, being confused/curious or by just straight up being drugged and dopey.
The only issue is that by bribing in a realistic TRex, that would have to change other creatures. Like the Indominus Rex, if the TRex was accurate than the IRex would also be changed more.
Let’s also not forget that if the Spinosaurus managed to grab ahold of the T. rex’s neck, he wouldn’t be able to break it. Tyrannosaurus rex had a thick and bulky neck which would have been too strong for the Spino to snap.
This is great! My head canon is that the InGen Rexes are, as Dr. Grant puts it, "Genetically engineered theme park monsters". If any additional "Jurassic" films are made, I'd love to see a newly designed/updated Rex that is more true to the real thing as we understand it today and therefore even more terrifying.

Finally someone gives credit to the novel. T-rex couldn't see unmoving objects, because of the frog's DNA. This tiny detail was absent in all the movies.
I think it wasn't until the 4th movie that any of the scientists onscreen actually admit that all of Ingen's dinosaurs are in some ways different from the actual creatures due to the DNA substitution, such as a lack of feathers on some dinos now understood to be feathered, though in JP2 they did conclude that the Dinos were able to mate because the frog DNA gave them the ability to change genders like some frogs can do. I think Dr Wong mentions that most of the created dinos actually appear quite different from the base animal due to the DNA substitution while defending the creation of Indomitus as "bigger and more scary" for the crowds who can have somehow become bored with the other dinosaurs.

@@donnierust4740 Can't tell you the exact page, cause my book isn't in English and probably isn't the same. Look for that part after the T-rex breakout, where Dr Grant sees the hadrosaur. In my edition it's around page 298. Forth iteration. It's the second chapter that is called THE PARK. I believe Dr Grant mentions frog's DNA for the first time in third iteration, chapter BREEDING SITES. Since then he continues looking for connections between dino's and amphibian's behaviour.
They are wrong, they never say it was frog DNA in the novel that causes their bad sight, it is simply a paleontology theory of Grants in Jurassic Park. Crichton had bad information and even retcons the Tyrannosaur's sight issues in the Lost World as the rex either being confused by the rain or not hungry. The erroneous info in novel is attributed to a fictional Paleontologist named John Roxton(a character from the original lost world book).
People give Jurassic a lot of hate for their inaccuracies, but the rex was actually pretty darn accurate for the time. Even by today's standards it really isn't that bad.

It's a movie people don't seem to understand that they're not gonna get everything right this was 1993 after all big difference between 1993 to 2023.
I think having a 40 ft T Rex silently walk up to you and "roar" at you with you not hearing anything but wind as your whole body starts to vibrate from the infrasound is a lot more terrifying than the stomping, trumpeting entrance we get in the movies.

Lion roars are far different from potential t rex roars. Lions actually have vocal cords. Their roar could rupture your ear drums, definitely, but the t rex would be at a whole different level. It's larger and would likely have much greater lung capacity due to the lungs of therapods/birds being very efficient at absorbing oxygen. It would have a throat sac like modern birds, maybe not as prominent but still there. It would use this to make low frequency sounds. If you've heard a cassowary call, you'd know how it sends vibrations throughout your body. Now imagine that scaled up to t rex size. Would be devastating. Wouldn't even need to open its mouth.

The films would be very different all because of the stealth. More so horror than action. The fact that this beast is far heavier, and yet so much more silent, is downright unimaginable. Much smaller beasts like tigers already pose immense threat to humans, something like a T. Rex could just devour us in droves.

If you take Prehistoric Planet to heart, T.Rex could also apparently comfortably swim long distances, possibly the only place a tyrannosaur would be remotely vulnerable. But if that's the case, well...I don't know if it was an _enclosure_ in Jurassic World, but if it was just a bunch of islands, a realistic T.Rex would have been wandering from sanctuary to sanctuary, searching for food and better ground. Goes to show just one more reason big theropods basically achieved world domination for a while!

So about 120 years ago when these giants fossils were discovered and people didn't know that some fossil finds were the same species as previous samples, T-Rex actually had three names: Manospondylus, _Dynamosaurus_ and lastly, _Tyrannosaurus Rex_
So it turned out these three were the same and the scientists had to decide which one. _Tyrannosaurus Rex_ was chosen as even the people 120 years ago knew that it felt awesome to say.
Second fun fact: Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of the only animals on earth that the mainstream uses the full scientific name for.

So _Manospondylus Gigas_ means "Giant Porous Vertebrae". Boring name, I know, but it's simply because they haven't found the skull with that rather fragmented specimen and did not know that it was a Rex. In fact, they thought that it was a Ceratopsian. If I recall correctly, T-Rex was still an unknown dinosaur at this point (only in 1900 would the skull be discovered and this find dates back to 1896, I believe).
So in that 1900 find (going off memory here, so I might be wrong) there were two fossils which they thought were from different species (again, it wasn't complete skeletons and cleaning and piecing together the fossils are a huge undertaking, especially if you have no idea what the animal looked like).
The one was named _Dynamosaurus Imperiosus._ _Dynamo_ means "powerful" and Imperiosus means roughly the same. Other synonyms can include "master", "Ruler" or "dictator". So "Ruler of the powerful dinosaurs" perhaps?
The other specimen is the one that stood out. The skull was very well preserved and absolutely blew the finder away when he saw it. Upon seeing those jaws, those teeth and that menacing face, he named it _Tyrannosaurus Rex._

The fact that the real life T-Rex most likely had the best vision of any terrestrial animal to ever exist means there would be no running or hiding from Rexy in real life.

@@Mirthful_Midori So I looked up frog vision and this is what I found. Frogs only see well at far distances. This means that they are farsighted. Also they are very receptive to movement, but that doesn't mean they can only see things that move.
So yes kind of. In the book it mentioned frog dna being the cause, but even that wasn't completely accurate, as it made it sound as if though frogs were completely blind in the absence of motion. In fact if the t rex vision is based on frogs, then it would be able to easily see you from a far distance, but have blurry vision up close. However, it should still be able to see you to some degree.
Also believed to have one of the best smelling abilities too, allowing it to smell any other predator's kills within miles and show up to bully the other predator away from it's kill. Of course that also makes it even harder to hide from it as well.

I really love this analysis as it goes to show why people shouldn’t complain so much about inaccuracies. InGen were not making fully accurate dinosaurs and the dinosaurs they made were mishmashed with other animal DNA causing some major side effects that would hinder them to their full potential. Even Masrani’s dinosaurs were just as mishmashed.
This is important to remember. I also recall in the book Jurassic Park, Dr. Wu talks about how they made the dinosaurs slower because it seemed so odd to see such large animals moving so fast. They were always making what they thought people would pay to see, not just what was real. Of course, Jurassic World doubles down on it with Indominus Rex.
It's like what Alan Grant said in Jurasic Park III: "Now, what John Hammond and InGen did at Jurassic Park is create genetically engineered, theme park monsters. Nothing more, and nothing less."

From what I've seen from the predator dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs weren't old enough to have had much experience in fighting. Coming up against a natural T-Rex would have suicide. The real deal would have been way too experienced for even the most powerful of them. In some cases they might not even see it until it was too late to even think.
Can we take into account that Rexy is bred in captivity and they use an accelerated growth rate. Physically it is an adult but mentally she isn't. I agree with you about the fact that the real T-Rex is rather terrifying and with new studies showing up. They are narrowing down things real fast

Regarding that, I was thinking how the Jurassic World series could've established a plot point that InGen learned how to extract more information from the Dinosaurs' genetic code, giving them fewer gaps to fill with other animal's DNA. This could in turn, could've provided an in-universe explanation to update the newer dinosaurs to look more accurate compared to the older films.

The closest thing to that happening is in Camp Cretaceous: Hidden Adventure, where you can have Rexy confront the Tarbosaurus instead of Toro. Rexy ends up tripping and falling first. But when she gets up later and continues the fight, she manages to overpower the Tarbosaurus without any help from other dinosaurs.

They humulate the Jurassic T-rexes enought, to the fans (who only watched that, and don't know much from dinos) literely the bigger part of Jirassic fanbase, was think the other big carnivire is even weaker than the Jurassic rexes. That will not Rexes strenght, the will the opponent weakness will be. So the ONLY way to show rexes strong, but not the opponent weak as hell is the killing the today's generation T-rexes (include Rexy) modify the genome to the original, and release that, and that will be strong. Universal as I said went too far to show T-rexes weaker than any other big predator.

I agree with all of this, although I would make one addition in the hypothetical situation that the car chase scene does happen. Recent studies of the Rex metatarsal bones shows that the three were fused together, creating a foot structure comparable to animals evolved for long distance running. The compactness meant that energy loss in each step was minimal and perfectly adapted for running at full speed for a considerable time. This heavily suggests that Rex’s were long distance runners, able to outrun any potential prey, considering the majority did not have this sort of bone structure. Applying this to the car chase scene, I think Rexy would’ve just followed them all the way back to the compound, instead of just giving up, ultimately killing them all once they ran out of road.
Just like humans, we are just now the greatest long-distance runners of all extant mammals, and the apex predator of all ecosystems (except maybe by deep oceans), so, can that be extrapolated to t-rex in terms of intelligence too? Since humans are also the most intelligent mammals and the ones with the most developmented abatraction ability.

The T-Rex is the reverse of what science usually does when explaining things: most of the time animals that were incorrectly researched become less threatening due to finding out that parts that were seen as dangerous weren't actually so. Except for the T-Rex which seems to only become scarier the more accurately it's learned about.

I have always thought that the T. Rex in Jurassic was based off of one of the more gracile morphs of the Tyrannosaur species. While Rexy definitely has some embellishments in her design, I still think she is pretty good as a “genetically engineered, theme park monster”, being based off a real animal.
I was just happy that they made the distinction reasonably clear instead of leaving it out and/or intentionally misleading the audience for the sake of getting all those juicy juicy angry comments, granted the video is literally on "real" t-rex vs jurrasic park t-rex but even then I expected them not to mention that the jurrasic park rexes are theme park attractions and in no way real viable animals even in-universe.
I have seen speculation that the Jurassic Park animals were malnourished. They possess prominent "shrink-wrapping", which most dinosaurs in media are (inaccurately) shown to have. But Jurassic Park...was not a very good zoo.
Keeping a multi-ton predator on an island fed and at a health weight would be difficult.
Ironically, Rexy was created to _challenge_ the public's expectations of dinosaurs (as tail-dragging morons) - she was never supposed to end up gatekeeping them.

@@HowlingWolf518 that leads me to one question. Dinosaurs are birdlike build so the posture changed dramatically during the ears of researches. However birds don't have heavy tails. Assuming those enormous bones and muscles were constantly lifted above the ground is a bit too much for me to believe. Dragging the tail every once in a while wouldn't affect the balance of the posture. It would save energy. Every animal on earth with a tail that weighs more than feathers, keep the tail down when just walking. Cats, comodo dragons... Wouldn't it be possible if the new appearance is a bit exaggerated?

A real T-rex is extremely strong and built not only for ambush hunting prey but, also built to fight their own kind. Most T-rexes are experienced in fighting larger dinosaurs, especially their own weight class. Indominous weighed only about 12,000 pounds, most adult rexes weighed about 11,000 pounds and could even grow up to 15,000 pounds, the heaviest T-rex, Scotty, was almost 20,000 pounds. A real T-rex had quite the turning speed and was stated in many papers to actually be quite agile. They also have one of the largest brains in large therapods, so, although likely not as smart as I-Rex, T-rex would be smart enough not to run head-first into I-Rex. Speed likely goes to I-Rex, but strength immediately goes to T-rex, T-rex likely had a stronger bite force because the I-Rex would have sacrificed some bite strength for longer arms and snout. Although you could make the argument that I-Rex has a similar bite force because it is a Hybrid, but strength still goes to T-rex for the simple fact that most of its weight was just muscle. Agility goes to T-Rex because it has a tighter turning area and likely could out-manuever I-Rex however it would likely be a close one given I-Rex's own agility. Intelligence goes to I-Rex, obviously, but, experience goes to T-Rex as they likely have fought more battles with other Rexes their size. Durability and Endurance could probably go either way, but I would probably lean more towards the T-Rex as it is on average the heavier animal and it likely had feathers which would help with durability. In a real fight, the Indominous would probably have the upper hand initially, but eventually, the T-rex with more experience will slowly win the fight as it is stronger and more durable. But in real life, a T-Rex would have likely avoided confrontation with the Indominous or have ambushed it, likely unsuccessfully, and then retreated. (A real T-rex would prioritize energy cost and would likely walk away if the cost was greater than the reward gained.) In a fight to the death, if the T-rex somehow missed all of its killing shots and instead fought the I-Rex in endurance and strength only, the T-Rex would have still won, but, would have died from injuries shortly after. 9 times out of 10 the T-rex would likely win in a real fight.
(I forgot to mention stealth, the T-Rex was way more stealthy than initially believed, and had very quiet footsteps, although I-Rex probably could sniff it out the T-rex would have already known the I-Rex was in the vicinity because of its strong nose and great eyesight. The I-rex would likely not have heard the T-Rex approaching because the T-rex, despite its size, has quiet footsteps and would not have made much noise while tracking the I-Rex. Although, the I-Rex is stealthy as well and likely could have hidden itself for an ambush.)

The rex is way too bulky for its neck to be snapped, the muscles and fats are too thick for the spino. The spino snapped the rex's neck by 1: rex being a sub adult and 2: plot.

The T-Rex was in my eyes the equivalent of a hammer in terms if simplicity. A hammer is a handle and a bonky bit on the end, you don’t need to add anything to it. A T-Red is a pair of legs and a big mouth, you don’t need to add anything to it. That’s why it was so effective.

I would actually love an accurate tyrannosaurus for cinema but there's not a thing wrong with an artistic interpretation of dinosaurs either. A blend of accuracy and artistic touch is what makes cinematic dinosaurs live and breathe.
Edit: another thing about an adult tyrannosaurus. Imagine if you did out run it. It could use its sense of smell to track you down for miles wasting very little energy keeping up the pace while you are exhausting yourself trying to keep one step ahead. If you were trying to hide they could use the juveniles sort of like hunting dogs to flush you out of cover and into their open jaws.
I feel like it wouldn't waste its time if it's an adult. After, all, assuming this is still taking place in Isla Nublar, it's on an island with much more plentiful food.

I want to see an accurate Giga; Giganotosaurus was actually a lot for formidable than most people (who are aware of Rex’s adaptations but not of Giga’s) give it credit for, and too often it’s dismissed as being “inferior” to Tyrannosaurus when in reality it’s an equally capable and impressive predator that just has different strengths and weaknesses.
And this is why an accurate Rex is the undisputed, true KING OF THE DINOSAURS!!!
The more we learn about Tyrannosaurus, the more and more it seems perfectly suited for a horror movie.
This deadly hunter than can see from 5 miles away and smell you from 10 miles away before you know it’s even there.
You can try to run but even if it just walked towards you it’d have no trouble catching up on its noise cancelling padded feet.
And once it catches you in their jaws, that’s it, whatever she spits out is gonna have the consistency of ground beef with those railroad spike teeth and car crushing jaws.
T.rex is the ultimate slasher villain and the only way you could have it be some sort of underdog was if it was a younger individual.
One of the Primeval novels and Primitive War used these sorts of attributes to great effect.
I always saw the first Jurassic Park film as a horror film. Tho not your typical slasher film as the killers are escaped genetical altered zoo animals. It's my favorite horror film.
That was Michael Crichton's intent for his series, but Steven Spielberg turned it into an action-adventure franchise. Now I respect Spielberg a lot and I get where he was going with the decision: respecting how kids see dinosaurs and not wanting to take that sense of wonder away, but...geez. This would have been one of the best horror franchise had they stayed to Crichton's vision.
Even with the amount of information he had back in 1980s, he still recognized the reality of what it would actually be like if dinosaurs and humans lived in the same world. It would *not* be a good one. These animals are far smarter and more adapted to kill in ways we don't give them enough credit for.
If you haven't read the book, definitely recommend it, the rex is much more terrifying in the book with what it does.

Another fun thing to consider about the Rex is its 'tiny' arms have been modeled to musculature able to casually move figures in the hundreds of pounds, and so could have been a huge value for its day-to-day logistics. More than enough strength to move just about all foliage short of full-grown trees, it would have been able to easily dig out comfortable pits to sleep and rest in. And while laying down in such hypothetical pits, it could capitalize on its subsonic hearing, getting a good read on all of its surroundings similar to "putting an ear to the ground." Combine that with their stealth, they probably enjoyed many serendipitous ambush opportunities along the way to anywhere their ample olfactory senses guided them.
I love T-Rex. It's been my favorite since I was a kid, watching old claymation, tail dragging, slow moving T-Rexes stomp across the tv screen. Finding out the real animal was even more bad-ass just makes my millenium! Thank you. I really loved seeing the velociraptor and the human just explode when Sue chomps down on them! I loved the first JP movie, and the Rex is still my favorite dinosaur, but with all of the info that’s been shared since the movie, it’s mind blowing to see how much it’s changed. I still sometimes forget that these were real creatures, living lives, and doing stuff. Part of me wishes that we could still observe them somehow(from a safe distance, of course)

Also, a teenage T Rex can outrun you with speed, but a grown T Rex can track you down for 3 miles or more, all done silently.

I'm tired of seeing our beloved Rexy and her kind getting nerf in the movies, thank you for giving the Real T-Rex it's true capabilities it deserves. Also the accurate T-Rex already killed all the characters during the stranded on the paddock scene in Jurassic Park
I think the only ways the characters could survive the paddock scene, against an accurate T. rex, would be if the animal was more curious than hungry towards them and/or was distracted by the tropical storm going on around them. That would at least fit Michael Crichton's attempted retcon in the second novel, where the T. rex was suggested to have merely been disinterested by a motionless human, rather than blind to it.
An accurate Trex would not give a single shit about us, a less than 80kg snack is not worth the energy to catch it when you are a 8-9 tons predator. (Size of most Trex if we dont count the « big » ones)
An accurate Trex would actually be less dangerous than all other carnivore from the Jurassic series since its an animal an not a blood thirsty movie monster.
The paleo accurate Tyrannosaurus would still lose to these large theropods in the Jurassic verse. It's been shown and confirmed that the Tyrannosaurus had the same bite force, intelligence and turn radius. Rexy, Bull and Big Eatie have shown great abilities to that.

I read an article around the time Fallen Kingdom came out, that the filmmakers asked Jurassic Park fans if the T-rex should be changed to a more up to date, accurate appearance. All the fans responded No, leave her as she is.
Which I'm glad they kept her the same. She wasn't made from 100% dinosaur DNA, so it makes sense for her not to be accurate in appearance or behaviour. As Alan Grant said "They are genetically modified, theme park monsters. Nothing more, nothing less."
I love videos like this as they make me hyped and absolutely terrified to learn more about just what an actual T-Rex was like and glad it's extinct as it was basically just a massive cross between a tiger, eagle, and a saltwater croc.
A T-Rex that's accurate in accordance with today's research would be absolutely terrifying and needs to be put into a movie asap.

In the Michael Crichton novel, I don't recall T. rex being included on the list of InGen dinosaurs that were recreated using frog DNA. Frogs were only used to fill in the gaps for some of the dinosaurs, with more reptile/avian DNA being used for the rest. Having all the dinosaurs utilize the frog genes was a more from the movie version.
Red Raptor Writes pointed this out to illustrate how the T. rex's eyesight being a result of the frog DNA was not likely Crichton's original intention, even if it would make perfect sense at first glance.

May not have been the frog DNA but I remember them mentioning something about how something went wrong during the cloning that caused it's sight to get worse through age.
Actually in the Official Books they never Used frog DNA there is a Little list on one page werre you see, the frog DNA is only Used on some few Dinosaurs. But not all And the List not Containing T-rex

If an accurate Hell Creek T. rex was in the Jurassic franchise, there'd be no need for the Spino, I. rex or Giga to challenge it because its a foregone defeat for all of them. Best keep Spino as an aquatic hunter and make Giga a sauropod hunter.
And maybe the Giga could be utilized as a lighter-but-faster-running counterpart to the T. rex, which could be extremely dangerous in its own way.

My favorite thing about the Tyannos is that T. Rex had a weird call when it was getting ready to kill and was already eating on a body. It's from a further developed tentadum drum (a layer of flesh in the ear canal that is able to pick up really deep vibrations), and both the Sue Exhibit and Studio's YT channel showed that this call ended up being so horrifying it would stun prey including their own young at a last resort.

A fully paleo accurate T.rex that was the same size as Rexy, but possess all of the bulk and muscle that the real animal did, the absolutely tremendous bite force, the super potent binocular vision, the incredible nose, the insane dinosaur intelligence, and other finely tuned and acute senses that it wielded would be the indisputable apex predator in Jurassic Park/World.
Obviously it’s still an animal so it wouldn’t be an OP monster, but it would be damn close. Tyrannosaurus Rex was the PEAK of dinosaur evolution, it was the zenith, and nothing else came close. There’s a reason why they dominated for so long, and the more we find out about them, the more insane they become.
Easy to say so when its like 7 time for studied than any other giant theropod… A puzzle in which we have more pieces will always look more interesting/complete than the one in which only a few pieces were found. Trex is also way less « Ancient » than other mega theropod while being incredibly well adapted to his environment. This and the fact that it had no competitor of similar size add to Trex’s success.
People tend to over exaggerate this dinosaur pretty often these time… mixing a bunch of scientific theories together while ignoring those who say otherwise is not a rare sight. But this phenomenon is not new nor exclusive to the « dinosaur » theme…

Thank you for pointing this out. All too often I see people assume because Tyrannosaurus couldn't run particularly fast that it was incredibly slow and lumbering when it was in actuality deceptively nimble.

Just discovered this channel and after watching this and a few others, while the voice acting is a bit cheesy it honestly fits well with the vibe of these videos and it's honestly kind of refreshing to see scientific accuracy and realistic animal behavior go into these types of movie/fight analysis.

According to the timeline, the first prehistoric animals were cloned in 1986, so by 1993, the maximum age for any dinosaurs in the Park would have been 7 years old. T-Rex could live for well over 20 years so the animals in the movie obviously have not had time to grow to the maximum potential size for the species.
In defence to the movies, the Rex was hunting for the infants in Lost World rather than itself. And the Rex, as well as all the other dinos, had an added DNA strain to help them grow faster so as to fill the park faster

In the Lost World book they sort of debunked the "t-rex cant see you if you don't move" theory, saying that while Grant thought that was the case, research had progressed since then. They proposed that she probably could see Grant, but chose not to eat him because she'd just been fed a goat.

Seeing a lot of paleontologist revisionism on the t. rex over the years made the dinosaur fanatic within me very sad, but with more evidence supporting that the ol' tyrant lizard king was indeed the apex predator on land, I'm filled with a bunch of childlike excitement. Long live the king of dinosaurs! Props for referencing the novel and not just the movies. I'm glad it's generally understood that the movies could undersell certain dinosaurs and Rex is no exception which is shocking considering how threatening they already are in the series. The real rex was a sneakier and chonkier monster of an animal.

@@VYDEOS2 Sorry to burst your bubble, but contrary to what you might think, not all paleo-behaviour is under the same level of speculation. In fact, some aspects we have actual good idea from the actual fossils themselves.
The idea the real T. rex was actually a silent and sneaky stalker for example is supported by the fact it has toe pads based on the footprint that the video brought up. The hypothesis it has good vision able to see in even low-light conditions? Having the largest eyes of any terrestrial animal based on its eye sockets, binocular, and scans of its brain cavity supports having great eyesight. Its puncture and pull feeding method (and potential way to dispatch prey too)? Feeding traces from bite marks left on the bones of their prey animals. Face-biting behaviour? Direct fossil evidence of bite marks on their faces. Juveniles being much more speedier and nimble (thus having different prey)? Supported by the overall anatomy of the juvenile T. rexes we have.
As you can see, while we can't deduce every behaviour it could have had from the fossils alone, there is still a fair amount we still can deduce from the fossils alone.

From a super underrated movie, I think you guys should put the Dragons (they are really Wyverns) from Reign Of Fire against the White Spikes, given both managed to nearly drive humanity extinct in a very short period of time. I love you guys and really want to bring attention back to these amazing nightmare inducing creatures!
The term “dragon” is so broad it can apply to any flying fire-breathing reptile, modern fantasy sometimes makes distinctions between the different depictions of dragons but legends and folklore uses terms such as dragon, wyvern and wyrm interchangeably. That’s why many cultures have their own legends about dragons, it’s because we have such a broad definition of what a dragon is.
Whenever I get the chance, I always like to mention this. Book T-Rex might’ve actually been able to perfectly see stationary targets. In the Lost World Ian Malcolm explains that Grant had a realization after their time on the island explaining that the reason the Rex didn’t attack him during the jeep encounter was because it had already eaten, didn’t consider them a threat (compared to the jeeps) and was overall rather confused on why they weren’t running away, constantly trying to intimidate them by growling, roaring and getting close to them. To prove the point, Ian was saying this because Dogson and his men decided to freeze up whilst stealing Rex eggs when the parents saw them, I think y’all can guess what happens next.
I do like to think that this might have been a retroactive retcon made by Crichton, that might have affected the way the Rex was displayed in the movies. Cause besides the jeep scene, there isn’t a single time where the don’t move a muscle gag actually seems to work. And even when it seems to, just like in the book, it can still be chalked up as the Rex just losing interest, getting distracted by something, being confused/curious or by just straight up being drugged and dopey.
To be fair, plenty of modern day predators will cease the chase when their prey stops and stands their ground. This is a common tactic used by humans.

Indominus only inherited the T. Rex's bite strength. It's body is derived from giganotosaurus
Let’s also not forget that if the Spinosaurus managed to grab ahold of the T. rex’s neck, he wouldn’t be able to break it. Tyrannosaurus rex had a thick and bulky neck which would have been too strong for the Spino to snap.

This is great! My head canon is that the InGen Rexes are, as Dr. Grant puts it, "Genetically engineered theme park monsters". If any additional "Jurassic" films are made, I'd love to see a newly designed/updated Rex that is more true to the real thing as we understand it today and therefore even more terrifying.
