- So yeah, I'm quite happy about how Jurassic World Evolution 2 has turned out. As someone who loves dinosaurs, the Jurassic Park property, and the first Jurassic World Evolution game, the sequel does almost everything I could have wanted it to.
The campaign is a little disappointing, sure, but thanks to a number of smart and meaningful gameplay improvements and the addition of the excellent Chaos Theory mode, the package in its entirety is still significantly more packed, polished, and enjoyable than its predecessor. So I'll end this review the same way I ended my review for the first game, and gladly congratulate the developers for succeeding where John Hammond failed. Frontier, after careful consideration, I've decided to endorse your park.
Its biggest problem is that they removed all the guest/ park management. The challenge doesn't come from satisfying your customers and finances, it comes from random events that make your dinos sick, turn off the power or break fences.
I really enjoy Chaos Theory because instead of like the first game where its one long Campaign and it takes 80+ hours before you unlock high level dinosaurs, if you want the Spinosaurus you just play that mode for 10 or less hours. If you want JP dinos, you play that campaign. If you want lagoon creatures you play the JW campaign.
Did it ever occur to you that this mechanic might preempt any motivation of completing the game? Let's evaluate the situation, if a player chooses a specific game mode, where everything's attainable through a simple task, then the player losing interest with the game's other features. In short, nobody would need said mode if the item is unlocked already--and JWE2's Challenge gives credit to that thought.

They improved everything fans asked for and gave us all the big wishlist stuff like water/flying dinosaurs. Also unlike the first game where its content from Jurassic World and thats it, aside from a short JP1 DLC. Every films contents are included here from the start. They did a great job.
But.... there isn't actually a game to play. The campaign is like a couple of hours and contains almost no content.... I don't get it. This isn't even a demo... it's like a tech demo.
@@sadfscdagvzdfgb2632 It's a park builder. You build and maintain a park. You can also customize different dinosaurs and fight them or unleash them. You can fly helicopters and shoot them if you want to. You can photograph them. How isnt it a "game"
The biggest problem by far in the first game which made me stop the game pretty quick and that I'm surprise is not talked about in the review is the map size. Do we finally have big map where we can build almost everywhere?
According to the developers, the maps are bigger. I don't know how much bigger, though.

Some of the campaign maps are huge. But they can't be used in challenge or sandbox
Yes but more importantly instead of 4 samey maps theres like 12 or so different themed big maps.

First one was better, this one feels more tedious. Glad I waited for a sale. Might come back to it down the road, but for now it’s subpar.

First game was far less tedious. I loved the first game, and wanted more of the same which is what I thought I was getting with the sequel. I was not expecting to micromanage almost every aspect of my park from scientists to attracting specific guest types to specific areas of my park.
It is a welcome challenge

@@zaneyboss818 Yes. Different guest types and scientists didn't really add anything of substance. They're really just extra steps that were unnecessary given that the end result is the same.
Totally agree. The added complexity with managing individual scientists for literally everything is annoying and over complicated.

Sadly, lots of ‘Busy work’ instead of enjoyable gameplay. The scientists feature in the new game feels like a poor attempt at making the game more complex. It gets annoying, boring and detracts from actually enjoying the core dinosaur park game. The developers could have focussed more on features to enhance the fun of building and running a dinosaur park but instead we are managing people and fuel (every second of the day). There are one or two minor improvements in this new version granted (better fences and paths), but the 1st game was so much more enjoyable overall which gave you the ability to automate routine tasks. This is a missed opportunity to improve on the 1st game. Took the hard decision to uninstall it.
This was the game I was anticipating most this year
Overall I'm going to get some enjoyment out of it as I played 200 hours of the last one
As of now though I'm pretty disappointed to see the plethora of frequent bugs, some of which are downright gameplay locking, and how poorly optimized it runs on my Xbox 1X
Is it 30 fps on Xbox 1 X ? I am also interested to play this game.
@@fianoanthonio I'm pretty sure it is. The only thing the game gave me that seems to take advantage of the 1X is an HDR setting/options

Dude, these problems were in the first game too, Frontier just added new features into the sequel that exacerbated existing in the first one. Those 200 hours I bet weren't devoted to the Campaign or Challenge Mode. And if they were, I pity your soul.

I played that first one from launch until the very last patch
I didn't have anywhere close to the amount of issues that I have with the sequel
The bugs being exponentially worse than the tedious gameplay additions
I'm really excited for this. Is there a mode where you don't have to worry about your dinosaurs dying? I know Planet Zoo has something like that, where your animals won't get sick and die (as far as I know). Anything like that for this?
Has a Sandbox mode where your dinosaurs don't get sick and are tame but you have to unlock each dinosaur and attraction in another game mode to use it Sandbox
I’ve been playing the game for 20-30 hours and I still don’t have all the damn dinosaurs yet. It’s very grindy.
So far I'm not really feeling this game as much as the first.
Maybe I'm in the minority? The story was very very weak. About to start chaos theory now.
The story was ridiculous though, wtf was that like a few hours. No guests, no park management. No breeding Dinos (can you even do that in this game) that "story" felt like the tutorial.
Definitely not a “9” the 5 min status checks and scientists are very annoying. You literally have to use a scientist to research a fossil, go dig up a fossil, then incubate an egg and finally hatch it. The Dinos are also way too expensive to make and to even get the fossils. Also scientist cost 75K to rest each time. I’d personally give it a 5 out of 10. Campaign is 2 not 4 hours worth of play. Choas theory stories are fun but yet short and challenge mode is ok but there’s no appeal to do anything after that. I’d definitely wait on a sale or for it to come on gamepass.
I don't know how they got a 9 from this game. Most reviewers are giving it 6 to 7s

I like the game guys. I am not hating but I just don’t like the features they’ve added. And I agree I don’t see where anyone thinks this game deserves a 9

You could unlock all the non-DLC dinos in the last game thru the campaign, in this one you have to grind challenge mode for 30+ hours to get them all. It’s the most severe padding I’ve ever experienced in a game. I would know, I still don’t have them all & I’m 30ish hours in. It’s a chore to play at this point
just because you're not good at management games don't make them bad, go play an easier game if you're sad about not being able to throw money at everything to win
The campaign is connected to the Dominion movie and will get new scenarios when it's released also Chaos mode will get the final mission too
Played the campaign yesterday it's like 4/5 levels and they don't last long at all. No park management. No guests. Doesn't even show you half the things in the game. Wtf.

Best Game except for the bugs, weird animations lining up, crashes and lag due to alt tabbing and changing graphic settings i would play it forever if they fix those issues and remove micro managing in sandbox mode
Didn't experience any bug, crashes, or graphical setting issues in 30+ hours so far. The closest thing to an issue I've found is a little bit of ghosting when you have 10 or more Raptors in an enclosure in Chaos mode. I simply move a few and it was gone.

I'm going to wait for the dominion dlc and for a sale on all of it. Not worth full price.

Don't forget, when talking about Frontier showing love for the franchise to mention the ranger and MVU radios... I don't believe I have Identified all the music but I most certainly have noted various songs from the movies playing on the radio such as when Nedry meets with Dodgeson in JP, the song on Carters earphones when Dieter tells him he's going to the ladies room in the Lost World and "big hat, no cattle" from the pub in JP3 where Grant meets with the Kirby's. I absolutely love this little detail when driving the vehicles.
It figures that this review would be full of shit. Reason being these "improvements" adjust in creating more problems existentially to a game running on Spaghetti Code--something familiar found in the former's programming. Therefore, Frontier Devs adding new elements into an already broken game only punishes its audience, leaving despair and frustration. For example, Guest Amenities--why segregate the convenience mechanic--accommodating for food and water--into two shops when the restaurants served that purpose? Not only does it create clutter in your park, but it proves a challenge for difficult tasks ahead. Moreover, the "Scientists" mechanic may add nuance to the park but similar to Guest Ammenities, the limited choices restrict your needs as a player--and imagine incorporating these factors into the game's "Challenge Mode" settings.
Don't play a simulator game if you don't like a lot of micromanagements PERIOD!
This is what a true sequel looks like. I'm hyped to get into Isla de la muerte once more

I'm liking the game its fun not the best game out there but it's good however iv had the camera stick and I can't move anywhere
Go into bird's-eye view when that happens it will take you out
I've had the cursor freeze and just totally lock me out and force a restart/load
None of the other features would work either like the menu or the ability to get into top down view
I played over 100 hours on the first game as well , but then hit a wall and could not get 5 stars on all the later level parks no matter how hard I tried. I got frustrated disappointed and gave up. I also swear that although my skill level is mediocre there was some bugs or bad design that prevented me from getting further.
I found putting the guest facilities down early and very close to the viewing stations helped early on, and then when my facility rating was 5 stars and I had money I'd get as many dinos out as I could and in their proper places. Boom. Love it. I've played through fives times now. Wish there was more of a reason to go back to islands and restart with the things you've achieved, like more unlocks. Similar to the challenge mode.

I have not been able to find a PS5 to purchase. I've pretty much given up on it. Can anyone give me some feedback on how this runs on PS4?

One question. Whether I get the game or not depends on it. Am I still safe while driving into a carnivore enclosure ?
Why is that a deciding factor? Do you just want a chill experience? I understand that but the sabotage and stuff already kind of takes away the relaxing experience for me lol.
@@Torraim no, the opposite. It was so stupid that it made me stop playing the first one. I drive into the raptor enclosure in an open 4x4 and they don't give a damn.
@@kelseysvenson8544 the answer is that dinosaurs chase down your vehicle and pursue it until its too far away, frontier realised this would be annoying for the player and you can assign a helicopter to temporarily tranq the dinosaur if it provokes the vehicle

No. The campaign and chaos theory more than explain the mechanics
If you play the first game and then play this one you'll probably just be burnt out on the gameplay mechanics overall by the time you get to this one
However the first game is way better than it was at launch. They had about 2 years of free and paid DLC to expand on content and add new features and fix bugs
I'm finding the sequel full of glitches both minor and major and not so greatly optimized. I am on an Xbox1X so idk it may not have the optimization issues on new consoles or a good PC
But my game has a lot of screen tearing and juddering. So does my roommate's version on base Xbox one

@@adamdavis1737 yeah I play on Ps4, it have a bugs where the dinosaur animation is not execute well and alot of animation glitch plus with camera stalled
But, I believe they will patch out this next month. About content, I guess they will hold it until dominion released. So until then we have to wait.
@@adamdavis1737 the older gen systems are really having trouble keeping up with xsx and ps5 with these cross gen games. Im hearing last gen systems are having to dumb down the dino a.i.
My biggest issue with the game is the dinosaurs constantly fighting it super annoying. Everyone wants to be the alpha. Even on easy difficulty
Had Allos and Metrichanthasaurus(idk if i spelled that right) and the Allos killed them off even though the game says they can be housed together
@@thegunbear318 I noticed it said stuff like that too I was always too afraid to try it. I did try compys with deinoycus and I think they ate the compys. I kept getting dead dino notifications but could not find the dead dino. And every species was in check but I didn't bother counting all the compys
@@thegunbear318 well im sorry to say but that dosnt mean it can be housed together, but actually it means its that dinosaur favorite meal, no carnivore can be housed together im pretty sure.
I like the game. It's fun for what it is. The game can be audio heavy though and Ian Malcolm is by far the most annoying character.
The last management simulation that o played was Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection in 2005. I’ve been dying to go back into this genre of game, but I know A LOT has changed since 2005. Do I need to buy and play Jurassic World Evolution 1 before I play this? Or is this just a REALLY bad choice for a first game to dive back into since it’s been over 15 years?

The game has option where you can play in easy difficulty and unlock all things in sandbox.. Most people buy this game for "battle simulation, imaginative dinosaur era, and even documentary video" in sandbox mode

I love first game on my Switch, so fun!
Even after we got the JP extension I didnt feel the game captured the essence of the movie and I dont see it either happening in the second edition. But why?
1) Because it was lame to build the twenty fifth generator in a small map
2) The terrain management was awful. You couldnt build an overpass/ tunnels/ ditches
3) The dinos were constantly ramming fences in the same spot, even a dilophosaurus could break a thirty inch comcrete wall, nonsense!
4) Bad micromanagement, lack of details, the fact that planet zoo is more fun to play.
5) You couldnt plan, because boring things like food supply and repairs were wasting your time.
6) Always the same animation of killing spree and stupid AI.
7) Boring buildings and scenery.
8) Driving jeeps were boring. The graphics are good in strategy mode, they suck in FPS mode. Dino collecting campaignes are boring.
Am I lame for still playing the first game?
No. I'm holding off on buying this game too. It has such mixed reviews.

The campaign is a tutorial... That's why its so limited. Its designed to teach you about the different mechanics as you build for the dinos.

Ps4 pro is a crashing! Buggy mess! The future of gaming is here! Broken games! Iv got a gaming pc and wish my little girl wanted it on that! But no! And iv heard it crashes and bugged on PC! But these UA-cam's get a clean game to play! To sell it.
Thats cuz its a ps4, you need ps5 for any of these new games. Unfortunately ps4 is pretty obsolete now, its so clunky and slow, and honestly shitty compared to ps5

@@JohnMitchell-tx2tf a game like this on controller is about 5x as inefficient, if you only have console sure but if you have both there's no reason why you would ever choose controller over keyboard and mouse for this
