Dude Samsung S series is a blast. My first and last(for now) iPhone was 13 pro max, but I hopped to S23 ultra due to problems with app accessibility in my country. Well, now I can't go back to iPhone, seriously the oneui design is soo SLICK, it feels more "mature" than iOS, and it is way more flexible

As an iPhone user in the US I used to care if people didn’t have iPhones in high school because everyone else cared but as I grew up I realized that it doesn’t matter at all and it’s stupid to judge someone based on their phone.
Dude trust me this thing is also really common in thw US even between fully grown up people 💀 I work for Verizon in a call center, sometimes I work with people doing their initial set up of their phones(this is just one of the 1,001 things I have to do over the phone), or doing troubleshootings when the text messages don't work. Dude, when we are done and we are testing the text messages they always say really worried "Why are the text messages looking green?!", like if that's one of the worst things that could happen to them. Like, not only they don't know that they need to set up the Imessages, but for me it's ridiculous how they think it's such a big thing that their messages do not scream "I'M AN IPHONE USER!!!" just with the color. Like wtf

I live in Busan, South Korea. The flex culture here is unbelievable. Everything from the outfits (brands) you wear, to the car you drive, to the places you go to eat. As a foreigner, the way it seems to me is that nearly everything is done to show status or clout. Because of this people come across as more vain than the average person would in the states. It also comes across as people will “enjoy” or do things simply because other people have done it, not because it’s something good. Like they wouldn’t have made that choice do go somewhere, do something or eat at a place if they didn’t feel compelled to also show their status by following suit in the same set of actions that everyone else did. I think that’s just part of the culture at the end of the day. A big part of it is showing other Koreans you’ve “made it.” Don’t get me started on how big paying in installments for things people can’t actually afford. Or guys being “car poor” to finance a super expensive vehicle in order to show off. People literally go broke trying to show they’ve made it when it’s one big facade.
Well it's common in rapidly industrialised countries but as the country stabilizes in growth people become more aware of self satisfaction and importance of someones company rather than their views or social choice. The same thing happened in Japan during the 90s when it was booming but now they are more simple minded and polite and china is slowly entering this show off culture while Korea soon will get rid of this as growth stagnates

It's ridiculous to me how some people judge someone entirely based on the phone they use. I see this problem a lot, especially here in the US, where a majority are iPhone users. So mass stereotypes and false claims have formed over the years. You could pull out the most expensive Samsung/Android phone, and an iPhone user here will still call you broke or cheap. A lot of Apple users seem to believe that they're top-notch and surpass everything else in the market just because they got an apple logo on the back of their phone.

I had one “friend” in particular who thought I was broke because of my flagship Android and he rubbed in my face that iPhone signified wealth and cutting edge tech, and that’s why they’re expensive. He didn’t even know Samsung is the primary provider the OLED screens for Apple 😭 The delusion of status and wealth is TOO REAL, I almost had second hand embarrassment just from listening to rational of how iPhones are just better in every way 😅
The majority of people in the US arent IPhone users, only a portion of a certain generation do mostly use IPhones. Thats the biggest problem we have now, just because certain people have groups of friends who own an IPhone doesnt mean everyone else does. The only people who think IPhones are the best and everyone has them are IPhone users.

Obviously in US the vast majority will use iphone it's their brand. You barely see iphones in europe. Asian countries consider Apple a status symbol. It's not that deep and pretty easy to understand
I live in Korea. It's not just about people taking memes seriously. The age of getting your first smartphone in Korea is an average fourth grader. At that age, parents have a lot of control, and of course, they have a lot of control over them. Not only do Android smartphones have an affordable model, but most Koreans in their teens and 20s have a strong perception of Android phones such as LG and Samsung as "the phones which young children are managed and controlled by their parents." On the other hand, the iPhone has a strong perception of "uncontrolled free phones." Of course, the brand's image and many factors will affect it, but the most important reason seems to come from their perception of past experiences.
Since when iPhone was "free" as in freedom, let me highlight the contradiction, you can't change your launcher, you can't have another app store (unless you're in the EU), Apple controls everything that goes in the App Store, you can't use another browser engine only webkit, it is hard to mod games there, like geode for geometry dash doesn't exist, you have limited customization to your own devices, and on Android you can unlock the bootloader, Android has so much control and freedom for your device.

You can’t really talk about the iPhone problem is South Korea without talking about the overall “luxury” problem. So much emphasis is given to owning luxury brands it’s crazy - no matter what your income is, people will save up and buy luxury items not to even show off, but to simply fit in. IPhone just has the “luxury” image in South Korea, which is why it sells so well for people in the 20s even at the sacrifice of usability.
It makes you look rich on the outside but have poor wallet in the bank account like that 'Poor vs. Rich Outfit Comparison MEME'.Even those who don't have money will find a way to get the iphone. The chase for luxury is similar to FOMO, and that causes younger gen people to live paycheck to paycheck because they are not taught on how to manage their finaces well, like buy the stuff you only need.

I was surrounded by most of my family and relatives having iPhones and iPads, and I remember being so fascinated after seeing a Galaxy Note as well. I never thought that’s possible to have a small pen inside the phone and still work well. That’s when I realized that there’s so much more in technology than just what Apple delivers, despite being one of the top companies in the industry.

What Apple does bring is amazing performance, the A15 chip in the SE 3 still matches Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in single core performance, despite being from 2021. And the GPU performance is great thanks to the Metal API. Great stuff. But yeah, I also like Android for the freedom it provides. Playing DS games confortably on a phone for exemple is surreal ! Still rocking my Galaxy Note 9 for now as my main phone, and it performs honorably.

I’m a iPhone user and I hate when people judge others by their phones. Some my friends on android and the Rest is on iPhone, when people gonna realize phones is not a status symbol.
As a Korean living in Korea, I use android (Galaxy S23+) because Samsung Pay (very convenient in Korea) and automatic call-record, and it's more than powerful for my daily needs. I have not yet met anyone who judges others by what phone they own, but I think it's a win that Galaxy phone can filter those toxic people out of my life too. (p.s I don't hate Apple products. I use iPad mini 6)
Both are good android & Apple some have their pros and cons. But if a person starts judging a person based on what phone brand they use like it's their identity that defines them that kind of a person is the type i want to avoid making friends with because that is a huge red flag.

I don't think people understand. South Korea has some of the highest rates of suicide in the entire world, and people practically get bullied to death for simply existing there. Everything is just a game where people are governed by "societal pressures" to decide how they want to live their life. @@theelectronomer2319 i come from an immigrant korean family and my entire family including my aunts and uncles use samsungs and to my knowledge, have never used iphone before except for me and my cousin who are the only non gen x/boomers in our family (were both 18). I think in general the older generations have a greater importance placed on nationalism, it also doesnt help that globalization has introduced alot of american culture into korean culture so iphones are seen as much cooler in korea

Overseas Korean here. This is definitely true! However, I think it's similar in Korea as it is with western countries that lowkey broke people buy iPhones to signal wealth (which they don’t have). South Koreans obsession with brand obsession is just on whole another level, you can just see how everyone almost wears brands like Nikes or North Face all around their outfit also the obsession with luxury designer brands like Chanel, Dior and others. The Idol, K-pop and celebrity culture also promotes these brands and expensive designer things, because of that young teenage girls are asking for designer luxury bags to their parents just because their favorite Idol is the face of Dior, VL and so on. It's like almost 90% of Koreans really care and spend a lot of money on their favorite brands, new and latest IPhone just for the external validation they wanna get or fit in with what others are also having. Don't get me wrong, I myself suffer from that and really care about the outfits, brands, gadgets, accessories and things I carry but I'm trying my best to change and nowadays wearing clothes and shoes that I really like and not just because they are expensive or for the external validation.
The worst is that their neighbor Japan also buys a lot of brands, the iPhone marketshare is superior to Android phones in general but I have never really saw any kind of judgment behavior regarding this.
It's not specific to South Korea. It's very similar in Japan, China and Thailand too. Most of those who have money, will use it to flex. It likely stems from the rapid economy growth. Rapid growth causes huge inequality in the population and those who were fortunate like to classify themselves above those who got left behind. This can be from owning expensive products, to speaking in a different way or purposely speaking a foreign language when you have no reason to. By the time the economic growth slows down, the classification has already been integrated into the culture and is very difficult to remove (and the Asian celebrities do not help at all). The only place outside of Asia where I have seen such luxury brand nonsense is France.
Koreans are hilarious to be honest. They take consumerism to a whole new level. And North Face is trash brand here in the USA where it's originates but the Koreans eat it up like it's Louis Vuitton. They even made a fake National Geographic brand that wasn't even made by The National Geographic lmfao. I don't know any other society that gets tricked into buying things more than the Koreans. If it's Foreign made, they'll love it. If it's made in Korea it's "poor". As a nerd, there are a lot of things I would commend Apple on, like M-chips, but this "luxury" branding and shame-tactics (making the green bubble and artifically decreasing quality of videos and such for it) is actually why I will never buy any Apple product, not because of their quality. The only product which deserves the top 1 rank is a MacBook. But it doesn't have a GPU, like you can't even run AI softwares locally without a 4gb GPU. my problem with Android in general is their camera isn't properly supported like iOS. Taking IG video Story on Android looks worse compared to in stock camera app. Also, iPhone produces better skintone in photos. Videos are generally better on iPhone too, especially for night time. iPhone is the perfect phone for social media which is the majority of its user (millennial and gen z).

What you miss in the photo quality is how impact social media has and Android is known for a lower image quality in social media apps due to the lack 9f optimization of these apps to the phone camera. This might have a bigger effect in South Korea because of how many filters social media offers and how strong the standard filter in these apps are. by-default.
At this rate, using an iPhone is a fashion statement. The big apple logo on its back really reminds me of loud luxury brands. It's big, it catches your attention and especially it looks extravagant. Does the phone look good? Maybe, but that isn't what their users are looking for
And if you compare Apple presentation to other manufacturers Apple usually looks more stylish, they fall more inline with the loud luxury brands like Gucci or Balenciaga for example, now if you see Samsung presentation they usually are more technical and rarely paint a picture of only cool people using our device.
Right! I had an iPhone for 2.5 years and it’s underwhelming. I was with Android for years and planning on switching back in 2024. I just wanted an iPhone because I’ve been wanting one since the 3rd generation and could never afford it. Android has all the bells and whistles while iPhone is more of like a trend.

As someone from the Philippines who's middle class and still a student, because of the distinctive shape of an Apple phone you really can tell what someone is using and if its the newest model, it's easier to think ahh they have money. But its soooo so much more common to see people with lower end android devices or older apple devices so the whole "apple is best" isnt really the case in most situations. It's about the model and if we can recognize it. Thats why some people here sometimes recognize new galaxy models and make the same judgements
I used to live in Korea. Yes, this ridiculous opinion is very commonplace. I heard it from university students (always female, mind you) five to six years ago and was routinely chastised by my female friends for using a Galaxy phone. Young, attractive women see themselves (somewhat accurately) as part of an elite club, so they adopt this opinion publicly as a way of signaling that they belong to this group. The younger and hotter a Korean woman is, the more likely she is to adopt this stance. Normally, you would disregard someone who says something so inane, but when more than half the women you're trying to date in college talk like this, it leaves you feeling like you have no option but to get an iPhone. If you've ever formally studied the Cook-Gruetter Stages of Ego Development in psychology courses, nearly all South Korean women in their 20s fall into the Conformist stage. They don't reach the Self-Conscious stage until their mid-thirties, by which time they're married to the guy who had an iPhone in his late 20s. The American woman at 5:14 is saying in English exactly what 60% of Korean women in their 20s (and 90% of attractive women in their 20s) privately believe. They were completely unaware that my Galaxy Note cost more than the latest iPhone, and even when I told them, they didn't care.
Another proof that as i say iphone is a female phone. In my country is mostly females that have it as well. And the reason other than the branding is because iphones are basically the non tech phones. And women in general aren't as good with tech so they don't like choices etc and an iphone that hides settings and choices and is just "use it as it is" seems better to them.
Interesting, because here in Austria I'd consider iPhones to be the "girly" phones. Like, young women prefer them for themselves, but not really for men, which doesn't really matter all that much.

The only thing that makes iPhone a better choice for most people is the amazing software support by Apple, people with iPhone XR are still getting the latest updates. Also iPhones hold their value better than Galaxy phones, you can find the Galaxy S23 or S24 on bargain sales throughout the year.

I guess it is a worldwide thing, to be honest. It is just that social dynamics are a bit different in South Korea with Samsung being a huge Korean company. I live in Russia and a huge percentage of young people in big cities tend to prefer iPhones. No one really mocks Android users but it is still a stable trend. Just a few years ago (2019), I've read that 50% of young people (18-24) in Russia own an iPhone with peaks in huge cities like St. Petersburg (60%). Anecdotally, most of young women I know use an iPhone. It all has become especially weird when Russia invaded Ukraine and the country along with many companies got sanctioned. Nowadays, iPhones in Russia are much more expensive, harder to get, and even less repairable since Apple has ceased to operate in Russia. Moreover, you can't use Apple Pay and national contactless payment systems like Mir Pay and Sber Pay are only available on Android; you can't even legally download a banking app from App Store because nearly all Russian banks are sanctioned, so you either have to go to bank's office to get an app installed or wait until app developers temporarily upload it to App Store while masquerading as something unrelated to the organization. And even when taking all of this into account, people still keep buying iPhones. Such a clownery.

I live in Russia too and i think iphone madness here has evolved into a gender thing. I have many friends of both genders I know only one girl with an android and only one guy with an iphone (and yes, they are dating). Here, iphones are considered more feminine, i guess, because of the better selfies on apple and more tech knowledge required on an android. If you are a guy and you use apple, it is either you are working in marketing and advertising, or you are really far from being tech savvy.

Like, there are a lot of Apple products imagery on various types of social media: unboxing videos and setup guides on UA-cam with an emphasis on aesthetics, cute iPhone photos on Pinterest, the fact that many influencers use iPhones, and so on. After all, social media fashion is a huge factor for many young people. Especially if we're talking about young female demographic. I wouldn't say that there are no men who use iPhones. NGL, it seems like people from countries with more widespread poverty are the only people who actually cares about iPhones. I had a Galaxy flip phone earlier this year. When I went to South Korea for vacation, I was excited to shop for pretty phone casing for it. I was greatly disappointed though with how few options I had when I got there. The stores I went to all carried a variety of iPhone cases, but only a very few cases for my Galaxy phone. And there I was thinking South Korea would give me tons of options since it’s the home of Samsung. 😢 I guess that just shows how much South Koreans prefer iPhones over Samsung and other Android phones.
Wouldn't it be likely as iphones are the slab and hence easy to make phone cases, but with flip and fold phones, you need to be the one to do the testing and research to make it work, and not many case makers can't afford to do that if they profit out of buying cases and adding another colour or design to it

A popular joke in US is making fun of people because you get a green bubbled text message(Android) from them instead of a blue iMessage. I always found the whole thing stupid as some androids especially the newest galaxy’s have always been ahead of iPhones hardware wise.

I work for Verizon in a call center, sometimes I work with people doing their initial set up of their phones(this is just one of the 1,001 things I have to do over the phone), or doing troubleshootings when the text messages don't work. Dude, when we are done and we are testing the text messages they always say really worried "Why are the text messages looking green?!", like if that's one of the worst things that could happen to them. Like, not only they don't know that they need to set up the Imessages, but for me it's ridiculous how they think it's such a big thing that their messages do not scream "I'M AN IPHONE USER!!!" just with the color. Like wtf

I live in Busan, South Korea. The flex culture here is unbelievable. Everything from the outfits (brands) you wear, to the car you drive, to the places you go to eat. As a foreigner, the way it seems to me is that nearly everything is done to show status or clout. Because of this people come across as more vain than the average person would in the states. It also comes across as people will “enjoy” or do things simply because other people have done it, not because it’s something good. Like they wouldn’t have made that choice do go somewhere, do something or eat at a place if they didn’t feel compelled to also show their status by following suit in the same set of actions that everyone else did. I think that’s just part of the culture at the end of the day. A big part of it is showing other Koreans you’ve “made it.” Don’t get me started on how big paying in installments for things people can’t actually afford. Or guys being “car poor” to finance a super expensive vehicle in order to show off. People literally go broke trying to show they’ve made it when it’s one big facade.

Well it's common in rapidly industrialised countries but as the country stabilizes in growth people become more aware of self satisfaction and importance of someones company rather than their views or social choice.
The same thing happened in Japan during the 90s when it was booming but now they are more simple minded and polite and china is slowly entering this show off culture while Korea soon will get rid of this as growth stagnates

It's ridiculous to me how some people judge someone entirely based on the phone they use. I see this problem a lot, especially here in the US, where a majority are iPhone users. So mass stereotypes and false claims have formed over the years. You could pull out the most expensive Samsung/Android phone, and an iPhone user here will still call you broke or cheap. A lot of Apple users seem to believe that they're top-notch and surpass everything else in the market just because they got an apple logo on the back of their phone.
!! I had one “friend” in particular who thought I was broke because of my flagship Android and he rubbed in my face that iPhone signified wealth and cutting edge tech, and that’s why they’re expensive. He didn’t even know Samsung is the primary provider the OLED screens for Apple 😭 The delusion of status and wealth is TOO REAL, I almost had second hand embarrassment just from listening to rational of how iPhones are just better in every way 😅
The majority of people in the US arent IPhone users, only a portion of a certain generation do mostly use IPhones. Thats the biggest problem we have now, just because certain people have groups of friends who own an IPhone doesnt mean everyone else does. The only people who think IPhones are the best and everyone has them are IPhone users.

I've had my share of bullying because of my phone but I've always counter act with their 1. Cracked Screen, 2. Low Storage Pop Up 3. Battery Dying every 2 hours 4. Apps not working properly 5. Apple Pay not being the standard to every store. There's a lot more but those are the main points. I know what I want on a phone and IPhones lack every Online experience besides social media.
Obviously in US the vast majority will use iphone it's their brand. You barely see iphones in europe. Asian countries consider Apple a status symbol. It's not that deep and pretty easy to understand

I live in Korea. It's not just about people taking memes seriously. The age of getting your first smartphone in Korea is an average fourth grader. At that age, parents have a lot of control, and of course, they have a lot of control over them. Not only do Android smartphones have an affordable model, but most Koreans in their teens and 20s have a strong perception of Android phones such as LG and Samsung as "the phones which young children are managed and controlled by their parents." On the other hand, the iPhone has a strong perception of "uncontrolled free phones." Of course, the brand's image and many factors will affect it, but the most important reason seems to come from their perception of past experiences.
Since when iPhone was "free" as in freedom, let me highlight the contradiction, you can't change your launcher, you can't have another app store (unless you're in the EU), Apple controls everything that goes in the App Store, you can't use another browser engine only webkit, it is hard to mod games there, like geode for geometry dash doesn't exist, you have limited customization to your own devices, and on Android you can unlock the bootloader, Android has so much control and freedom for your device.

You can’t really talk about the iPhone problem is South Korea without talking about the overall “luxury” problem. So much emphasis is given to owning luxury brands it’s crazy - no matter what your income is, people will save up and buy luxury items not to even show off, but to simply fit in. IPhone just has the “luxury” image in South Korea, which is why it sells so well for people in the 20s even at the sacrifice of usability.

What Apple does bring is amazing performance, the A15 chip in the SE 3 still matches Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in single core performance, despite being from 2021.

As a Korean living in Korea, I use android (Galaxy S23+) because Samsung Pay (very convenient in Korea) and automatic call-record, and it's more than powerful for my daily needs.
I have not yet met anyone who judges others by what phone they own, but I think it's a win that Galaxy phone can filter those toxic people out of my life too.
(p.s I don't hate Apple products. I use iPad mini 6)
Both are good android & Apple some have their pros and cons. But if a person starts judging a person based on what phone brand they use like it's their identity that defines them that kind of a person is the type i want to avoid making friends with because that is a huge red flag.

이렇게 우리는 맨 첫 폰을 샀을 때부터 '갤럭시는 구리고 아이폰은 멋지다'라는 인식이 생겨버리고, 이런 상황을 겪은 아이들이 커서 지금의 20대, 30대가 되었습니다. 그리고 이런 세대가 만들어내는 분위기에 현재의 초등학생부터 고등학생까지가 영향을 받고 있죠. 재생산이랄까요.

I don't think people understand. South Korea has some of the highest rates of suicide in the entire world, and people practically get bullied to death for simply existing there. Everything is just a game where people are governed by "societal pressures" to decide how they want to live their life. So quite frankly, people getting judged based on the phone they have is not surprising.

I think in general the older generations have a greater importance placed on nationalism, it also doesnt help that globalization has introduced alot of american culture into korean culture so iphones are seen as much cooler in korea

South Koreans obsession with brand obsession is just on whole another level, you can just see how everyone almost wears brands like Nikes or North Face all around their outfit also the obsession with luxury designer brands like Chanel, Dior and others. The Idol, K-pop and celebrity culture also promotes these brands and expensive designer things, because of that young teenage girls are asking for designer luxury bags to their parents just because their favorite Idol is the face of Dior, VL and so on. It's like almost 90% of Koreans really care and spend a lot of money on their favorite brands, new and latest IPhone just for the external validation they wanna get or fit in with what others are also having. Don't get me wrong, I myself suffer from that and really care about the outfits, brands, gadgets, accessories and things I carry but I'm trying my best to change and nowadays wearing clothes and shoes that I really like and not just because they are expensive or for the external validation.

It's not specific to South Korea. It's very similar in Japan, China and Thailand too. Most of those who have money, will use it to flex.
It likely stems from the rapid economy growth. Rapid growth causes huge inequality in the population and those who were fortunate like to classify themselves above those who got left behind. This can be from owning expensive products, to speaking in a different way or purposely speaking a foreign language when you have no reason to.
By the time the economic growth slows down, the classification has already been integrated into the culture and is very difficult to remove (and the Asian celebrities do not help at all).
The only place outside of Asia where I have seen such luxury brand nonsense is France.
Koreans are hilarious to be honest. They take consumerism to a whole new level. And North Face is trash brand here in the USA where it's originates but the Koreans eat it up like it's Louis Vuitton. They even made a fake National Geographic brand that wasn't even made by The National Geographic lmfao. I don't know any other society that gets tricked into buying things more than the Koreans. If it's Foreign made, they'll love it. If it's made in Korea it's "poor". As a nerd, there are a lot of things I would commend Apple on, like M-chips, but this "luxury" branding and shame-tactics (making the green bubble and artifically decreasing quality of videos and such for it) is actually why I will never buy any Apple product, not because of their quality. my problem with Android in general is their camera isn't properly supported like iOS. Taking IG video Story on Android looks worse compared to in stock camera app. Also, iPhone produces better skintone in photos. Videos are generally better on iPhone too, especially for night time. iPhone is the perfect phone for social media which is the majority of its user (millennial and gen z).

What you miss in the photo quality is how impact social media has and Android is known for a lower image quality in social media apps due to the lack 9f optimization of these apps to the phone camera. This might have a bigger effect in South Korea because of how many filters social media offers and how strong the standard filter in these apps are. by-default.
At this rate, using an iPhone is a fashion statement.

Right! I had an iPhone for 2.5 years and it’s underwhelming. I was with Android for years and planning on switching back in 2024. I just wanted an iPhone because I’ve been wanting one since the 3rd generation and could never afford it. Android has all the bells and whistles while iPhone is more of like a trend.

As someone from the Philippines who's middle class and still a student, because of the distinctive shape of an Apple phone you really can tell what someone is using and if its the newest model, it's easier to think ahh they have money. But its soooo so much more common to see people with lower end android devices or older apple devices so the whole "apple is best" isnt really the case in most situations. It's about the model and if we can recognize it. Thats why some people here sometimes recognize new galaxy models and make the same judgements

I heard it from university students (always female, mind you) five to six years ago and was routinely chastised by my female friends for using a Galaxy phone. Young, attractive women see themselves (somewhat accurately) as part of an elite club, so they adopt this opinion publicly as a way of signaling that they belong to this group. The younger and hotter a Korean woman is, the more likely she is to adopt this stance. Normally, you would disregard someone who says something so inane, but when more than half the women you're trying to date in college talk like this, it leaves you feeling like you have no option but to get an iPhone. If you've ever formally studied the Cook-Gruetter Stages of Ego Development in psychology courses, nearly all South Korean women in their 20s fall into the Conformist stage. They don't reach the Self-Conscious stage until their mid-thirties, by which time they're married to the guy who had an iPhone in his late 20s. I guess it is a worldwide thing, to be honest. It is just that social dynamics are a bit different in South Korea with Samsung being a huge Korean company.
I live in Russia and a huge percentage of young people in big cities tend to prefer iPhones. No one really mocks Android users but it is still a stable trend. Just a few years ago (2019), I've read that 50% of young people (18-24) in Russia own an iPhone with peaks in huge cities like St. Petersburg (60%). Anecdotally, most of young women I know use an iPhone.
It all has become especially weird when Russia invaded Ukraine and the country along with many companies got sanctioned. Nowadays, iPhones in Russia are much more expensive, harder to get, and even less repairable since Apple has ceased to operate in Russia. Moreover, you can't use Apple Pay and national contactless payment systems like Mir Pay and Sber Pay are only available on Android; you can't even legally download a banking app from App Store because nearly all Russian banks are sanctioned, so you either have to go to bank's office to get an app installed or wait until app developers temporarily upload it to App Store while masquerading as something unrelated to the organization.
And even when taking all of this into account, people still keep buying iPhones. Such a clownery.
classic young people mentality, its sad - even younger kids wants an iphone and they will be happier to get an iphone 7, 8 or 10 than getting an equal current mid-range phone that offers technically better performance, camera & display. I live in Russia too and i think iphone madness here has evolved into a gender thing. I have many friends of both genders I know only one girl with an android and only one guy with an iphone (and yes, they are dating). Here, iphones are considered more feminine, i guess, because of the better selfies on apple and more tech knowledge required on an android. If you are a guy and you use apple, it is either you are working in marketing and advertising, or you are really far from being tech savvy.

I wouldn't say that there are no men who use iPhones. Some of the most tech-savvy guys I know use iPhones for one reason or another, and I know quite a lot of tech-savvy guys, trust me. Just as I wouldn't say that there are no women who use Androids. In fact, I know a lot of girls who use Android phones and I am a part of this demographic myself: the phone lying on my table is not an iPhone, it is a Pixel phone; I am a dedicated Android user, and the set of software habits I have would not allow me to use an iOS device.
Nor would I say that Android phones require more tech knowledge. I guess, if that was the case, older people would be more likely to use iPhones but anecdotally among the older people I know, I can only recall one iPhone user.

No entanto, pra quem quer vender o celular é problema mesmo, mas muitos lugares abaixam o preço logo depois, então acho que é só a tentativa de acompanhar o preço do novo atualmente x o preço do usado. I had a Galaxy flip phone earlier this year. When I went to South Korea for vacation, I was excited to shop for pretty phone casing for it. I was greatly disappointed though with how few options I had when I got there. The stores I went to all carried a variety of iPhone cases, but only a very few cases for my Galaxy phone. And there I was thinking South Korea would give me tons of options since it’s the home of Samsung. 😢 I guess that just shows how much South Koreans prefer iPhones over Samsung and other Android phones.

Wouldn't it be likely as iphones are the slab and hence easy to make phone cases, but with flip and fold phones, you need to be the one to do the testing and research to make it work, and not many case makers can't afford to do that if they profit out of buying cases and adding another colour or design to it

There isn't much differentiating smartphones anymore. Any phone from the last five years will be fully capable at doing 99% of an average persons needs.
I currently work here in Korea and yes I can testify that most teenagers or young adults here are using iphones I rarely see anyone using Samsung. On the other hand most of my coworkers here on our company who are on their 40s-50s all of them are using Samsung 😅

I'm an old iPhone user, and I have been using them since the very first day I realized I couldn't afford it unless I ask my parents. Lemme tell you something, the worth of these phones has been reducing in front of my eyes as I see almost every single person using it, be it my housemaid's kids, taxi driver, etc... so when I see a galaxy user including my Dad, I immediately respect them for not falling for this weird trend and yes when you said "you're broke" you reminded me of my worth,😂😭as a broke uni student everything I get is from my parents.
I still use iphone because of the privacy concerns but I like being seen as a “broke boy”, upgrading to the newest tech every few years makes me uncomfortable since I dont want to look “rich”
