    I can't get over the fact the cottonmouth is rattling its tail because it knows that other dangerous snakes do that to warn predators. it's so smart I love it

    • @modest1989

      That's not necessarily true. They do it just to create noise usually with the leaf litter which means back away from me. The rattle snake is just equipped with the perfect tool for that but the cotton mouth doesn't do it because it knows a rattle snake does it's just instinct behavior to warn off predators

    In my experience, these snakes are very confident, and can be aggressive. I’ve had one of these that was every bit of 4.5 feet by me. I fished by that one for awhile, and it didn’t mind my being there four feet away from he/she. I’ve also experienced them just being pissed when a human gets that close. They don’t mind going after folks, even when unprovoked, I’d close to them.

    It's sad how many water snakes in Delaware are killed because people think they're water moccasins. I keep telling people we don't have water moccasins in Delaware. Supposedly we have a rattlesnake, although I've never seen one. But everyone thinks we have moccasins and copperheads, and a lot of harmless snakes are killed because of ignorance.

    • @jsum33
      @jsum33 5 років тому

      A lot of venomous ones are too. I live in PA and I watched my pug walk up to, over and sniff a copperhead out in my yard and it didn’t even move. Didn’t stop my from having a coronary though.

      I used to think there were absolutely no cottonmouths in Ohio but people kept insisting there were. I didn't believe them and dismissed what they saw as juvenile Northern Water Snakes. Then I picked up a National Geographic and there was a photo of a road killed cottonmouth in Southern Illinois. I was stunned! Now I am considering that perhaps there are cottonmouths in Southern Ohio! I've got some research to do.
