      You can see billy's hand shaking after the king brown nearly hit his face. But i will say one thing the tiger snake in Western Australia is more common along the beaches then the rest of Australia and the colour is totally different they way more tiger colour looking so more yellow and striped.

      Passion for reptiles is very real. For how dangerous they are, it's similar to the passion scientists and activists have for primates or insects, arachnids, etc. Great pay is one thing, but honestly, I will admit working with these animals seems fun and very rewarding.

    That was very good to know how to react in the snake bite situation, also had no idea how anti-venom was made so that's very insightful. That's one hell of an important job Billy has!

      I was wondering that too: *why don't they use protective gear* ?
      Just a speculation on my part, a material that is not pierced by those fangs restricts handlers movement and if the snake loses the venom biting the gear, very little venom can be taken afterwards, so they choose the most dangerous route to maximize yield.

    • @TangoCharlieWhiskey96
      @TangoCharlieWhiskey96 Рік тому +20

      The materials are prohibitively expense. The only thing they make specifically for punctures of this caliber are the company HexArmor’s Venom-Defenders. And those are just gloved

      @@TangoCharlieWhiskey96 Thanks for sharing, but wouldn't metal or hard plastic strapped to the body be enough, even if custom made? Mobility would be affected though...

    • @jordanleonard8198
      @jordanleonard8198 Рік тому +18

      @@andanssas it could also break the snakes fangs too? Maybe. Too limited mobility and they are intelligent creatures.

    I know people throw the term 'hero' out all the time, but in this case I'd absolutely agree that the people who do this are heroes. I had anxiety just watching from behind a monitor on the other side of the world from this. I cannot imagine the level of concentration, fear, stress, etc that takes place in a room with snakes like that. The people in this profession literally put their lives on the line every single day in order to provide something to save other peoples' lives. Without antivenom there would be many, many, many lost lives. Props to them for their dedication because it is insanely valuable to the greater good. And props to Coyote for even being that close to those snakes. Even if one of them was being controlled and unable to bite I would still have too much fear to help keep it still so it could be milked. Bravo.

    As an Australian who lives in the bush. I have had may of encounters with snakes. My worst one so far was going for a bike ride, hoping off my mike, and then being a millimeter from stepping on a red belly black snake. It’s really nerve racking. Brown snakes less intimidating but have more potent venom. The red belly black snake looks the scariest. The eastern brown snake is probably the snake you will see the most. I have seen a inland taipan though.

      I'd say it's good to have a bit of anxiety in a job like that. Keeps you on your feet so you can react quickly to a snake coming at you, or from being bitten. Complete opposite of, say, being a surgeon where you don't want anxiety causing you to shake.
