  • In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart give a ground floor tour of the Chateau de Colombe. You can see all of the rooms before the renovation and restoration begins. They will talk about some of the history of the chateau that they have learned, and you can hear some of their ideas and plans for the future.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

As a new subscriber today (Canada) I appreciated seeing this tour of the ground floor. What strikes me the most is the comforting warm soul your chateau still has. Love the wonky hand-hewn stairs, odd doors (?) & the evolution of design styles in each room. You hold a true gem in your hands... absolutely lovely 💞

I do admire you both. We have done this. Our house, which is a 400 hundred years old. 6 bedroom town house that was un inhabited since WWII. No modern anything in the house. Electric, plumbing etc. It took us 5 years. Good luck to you both.

I love your chateau. I really love your windows specially how you can have them open but then have a latch on to stop them blowing fully open. Wow if I could read French I'd be straight in your library, I love history omg you are so lucky . Its wonderful that the previous owners have left all those documents about your beautiful new home and those magazines just beautiful ❤. You have lovely views from the every room. The dining room is crying out for a fire place to be put back and yes I agree with you it the paneling does needs to be painted again, the wood isn't uniform in colour is nice , but looks terrible sorry. I'm suprised there isn't a butler's sink in the pantry . Did old French pantrys have a cold stone ? My nans house had one in her pantry, for keeping items cold , before the age of the domestic fridge. You have such a beautiful home thank you for sharing with us your journey. I cant wait to see what you will do to this beauty, but shes going to look amazing when shes fully restored I'm sure of that.

As someone who can’t have a real first, I always hope, one will be left as a true fireplace. There just so romantic, and the smell is divine. Love your channel! Hi Jennifer. Awesome comment. The entrance needs to be much brighter. Even just taking down the wallpaper was an improvement…. Now that tells us a lot about the paper! The grand salon needs a lot of work and very different colors. The red furniture will move to the blue salon (won’t stay blue). A little light gold touches are a great option. However, your husband is right, it is big of you! 😘😂. I like your ideas and while some people would use deeper and darker colors, I agree, they need to be bright and cheerful. We will be open for volunteers, once we have a suitable bathroom or the farmhouse up and running. Tomorrow, we will go and open a specific bank account for buy me a coffee and Patreon as well. It is humbling and very touching, that there are so many caring people who want to help. For now, please take care and heal up completely and be kind to yourself! Huge hugs from us here at the Château de Colombe. 🥰💗🥰

That was so lovely. I hardly moved in my chair. Love the grand salon. The woodwork, doors, and crown molding are just fantastic. Down the road, you will definitely have to have your pictures taken, and added to the portrait gallery, perhaps in period costume, sepia tone, and tinted. Thank you for the tour, I think all of your plans are so thoughtful and in keeping with the age of the chateau. Oh, and that kitchen table. It will definitely be a gathering place. I could just go on and on.

The kitchen table is so inviting and we are glad we bought it. We hope for relaxed lunches and dinners with family, friends and volunteers around it. This is just wonderful here. Our best wishes and huge hugs fro the Château de Colombe. 😘💕😘

Perfect for wine, so I like the way you think. John is a hoot and a great guy. He comes highly recommended. The fact that you find us entertaining just made my day. 🥰. The history we have here is amazing. How fantastic. We are thinking about the second lightest French gray for the trim (keeping the original paint) and with the lovely slacked lime for the walls. In essence, we feel the same way. 💕. It will be welcoming and bring it back to what it should be. The van….. thank you so much. We hope so too.
