There is a UA-cam channel called “Carl Rogers” he and his father retiled their French farm buildings to a masterful finish. I have no idea of proximity (as I sit in my Calgary office LOL), but these gentlemen may have sources, resources or advice. Their work was a thing of beauty.
Carl and his Dad are amazing, they are in the south of France near the Pyrenees, they use different tiles, but the principle is the same. Good luck with that roof ☔
Shame the roof did not hold out a little longer. I see there has been advice already, I do hope it leads to a repair! The bread oven is a stunning find, it would be wonderful to have it going again! Nothing like the smell of fresh bread baking. I cant wait to see the farm house progress. I am loving the markets.. 😘😘
My dear Cliff. So good to hear from you. How have you been? Hope all is well. Let me know. We were talking about you the other day. 🥰. Well, there is roof news tomorrow in the vlog. The bread oven was a huge surprise. Since one was destroyed, we didn’t expect we’d have two on the property. Maybe we will do the reveal when the guests arrive……. Not sure. Waiting for more things for the farm to arrive. Looking good though. 🥰. Huge hugs from me and be safe. 💕😘💕
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Hello sunshine, Settling back into home here in Melbourne. We are still very much in the grip of winter. I am trying to plan a quick snow ski trip before the season ends next month with brother and friends! It's a little like herding kittens however lol. So have so enjoyed catching up on your vlogs! It's all so exciting to me. And again watching it all from day one and before is wonderful. You both have done so much. Now fort your latest episode. 😘😘
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 we are cutting it close now for end of season, so it will maybe get cancelled or I might go alone. Much more fun with others though. After many years I do know a lot of people there. I sometimes work the entire season running a lodge.
@@cliffhorman6846 I agree. Skiing alone is not the same. You are an all around renaissance man! Amazing. You do, what feels right. See, I fall through the floor. That was fun. I assume, you have a better way to have some fun.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just booked a trip for Stuart to visit his parents. Please keep me posted on what's going on and have fun my friend! Be safe. Hugs
I have a Pfaff machine too. Love it. Im a quilter and home dec sewer. Wish i was able to be there helping out. Sorry about the challenges of the past week. We are still going thru a lot of stress with multiple issues of health in the family, so we needed your visit. Cant wait to see the gite with all the furnishings put in place. Glad nobody or the doggies were hurt in the roof collapse. All i can think of is go to Brico and buy several tarps. Good luck.
Hello Angela. So sorry about the health issues. Wishing that there is a fast recovery for everyone! The Pfaff is working great. Quilting is amazing. I don’t have the patience……. I’m an admirer. The roof is a story for next week but yes, no one was hurt and we are experiencing kindness beyond out wildest dreams. Huge hugs and I’ll light a candle in the chapel. 😘🥰😘
You poor guys losing out on your plum crop due to the dreaded summer flu and the birds, not to mention the violent storm and the roof!!! That's 3 things, you're done!!! Wow, you have a bread oven...looking forward to seeing more of that when you start working on unveiling it in the Winter! Pfaff sewing machines are top notch! Good for you! Patrick, I love your reference to Stuart as Mr. Pushy! I cracked up watching the speedy move with the Van from the Chateau to the farm house.....the music was perfect!!!
Hi Norma. I agree with you. We are done with bad things. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Bread over, sewing machine and the market were the nice things that happened! It was funny for me to call Stuart Mr. Pushy. He is of course the opposite. Too funny. Love your comment. Hugs from Colombe. 🥰😘🥰
You two just have the best of attitudes. I’m so sorry to hear about the roof. That’s a real disappointment. The farmhouse gite sounds truly wonderful with the various furniture pieces. It will be special for people to stay there knowing where the bits are from. Patrick, you sound like you have a wonderful aunt. All the best you two!💕
Thank you Kathy for your great comment. The roof was bad but the farmhouse is becoming a lovely place. And the furniture from the chateau makes it really special. Fragile is removing wallpaper from the blue salon, after she already did the dining room. Fantastic. Huge hug to you. 😘🥰😘
I just love your sense of humor! I adore ( I believe your gang of Irish Terriers) I am have Airedales. I would love an episode about your Irish Terriers. How you choose this breed and an introduction to each member of the gang and what it is like to live with all this wonderful terriers
Love guys! You do make my day with a large smile 😃! You are doing a wonderful job for le château! So Love and light to both of you ! Big hugs from Montreal and Paris France …
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Aww. I feel honoured to be spied on by you! Please keep up that hilarious laugh of yours, I find you very entertaining!
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Thankyou for your wonderful reply stay safe and remember to take breaks alot of indoor jobs can be done in winter outside jobs can't. 🥰
Patrick and Stuart very sorry you were both Sick with summer flu. I had the summer cold and still the cough so kinda know what you were feeling. Your bread oven is an amazing find. Sorry about the roof too. Loved your sharing the shopping expedition. Sad that the water in the village/town was covered in the green algae. Your choice of music unloading the fan was beautiful. I know I’ve heard it before but cannot remember the composer. I think it’s lovely that older pieces of furniture are being used. From what I could see, it all looks beautiful. You had some lovely finds. Enjoying the journey. Love from Northern California.
Hi Mags. Sorry about your cold. It seems that the summer bugs linger on longer. Awful. Besides the roof, we had some good progress. Glad you like the furniture that we moved from the chateau to the farmhouse. I think it will look nice! Than you for being on the journey with us. Hugs from us at Colombe. 🥰😘🥰
Glad to see you both feeling better from your flu. We’re hearing horrible things about the 104 mph winds in Paris and the flooding. Sad news on the roof. Dang it! Your laughter is contagious- love the positive energy! Hugs and kisses 😘 😘 from Denie!
Darling Denie. We are much better, thank you, 🥰. That storm hit us before Paris and it might have weakened the slats. But we are still laughing. 😂. Hope you are enjoying your summer. Hugs and as always, love your comment. 😘💖😘
I bought my first sewing machine... a Pfaff... when I was 15 (I'm now 64) I service it myself and have sewn thousands of dance & stage costumes with it as well as clothes, curtains & bedding. Sewing tip for you...put in the pins the other way up to how you had them...so the point is pointing upward...then you can pull out the pin as you sew by pulling on the glass ball or pin head.
Oh you poor guys, windows shattered due to a storm. Nasty! Wouldn't be surprised if that same storm had influence on the collapse of the roof... The brocante looked fun along that canal! Please show the chairs you bought, very very curious 😉I'm very happy you're not pulling everything straight, but instead respect the age of the château and the outbuildings, that's what I call a warm, beating heart for cultural heritage! Châpeau, gentlemen!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you, Robert! You may be right about the storm weakening the roof for the delayed damage. We have images of the chairs and copper pieces, but they didn't make it into the vlog. We have posted them on our Community page if you want to see them. Thanks!
I'm glad you both are feeling well and I'm sorry about your fruit and roof. With the drought happening I am sure the creatures and critters were very happy with your fruit. I know you were looking forward to making preserves, did anything survive? How exciting to have discovered a bread oven! Pizza!! For not having felt well, the two of you are still incredibly productive (unheard of in France in August).
🤣😂🤣. It is true. Almost all artisans and smaller companies are closed. Window glad has to wait till September. 😳. It was a not so good week and we really appreciate your sweet comment. Thank you so much.
Hi Allyson. The farm house will be very nice but I think it’s so different next year with more time. Roof, yes we will get it repaired. Thank you. Hugs. 😘
wat zijn jullie toch een geweldig stel en Patrick heeft best veel humor echt aangenaam om te kijken naar jullie filmpjes ,en wat een groot domein en zoveel grote gebouwen wauw
Thank you Debra. When I wash my hair and just let it dry……. I have really big hair. I had it long over 25 years ago……. One more time I think and I can always shave it off 😳🤯😳. Huge hug - love your comment. 🥰
The gite is progressing and the roof issue will require a tarp to prevent further moister damage. Good to see the van being used after a minor delay. Too bad about the fruit, but circumstances dictated the outcome this season. The bread oven is a wonderful historical find and it can also be used as a pizza oven. You have great attitudes, as we have to accept unexpected occurrences and move forward. Take care, Ralph Rocchiccioli
My dear Ralph. You are spot on. In everything and especially that circumstances dictate at times. We will restore the bread oven and we do try to move forward. Thank you so much. Hugs. 💖💕💖
Hi Betty. You are spot on. The roof can be repaired. Now, I’m not a patient man……. But I sent out inquiries and we will get it done and it will last for decades. 😘
Tragic but true! Haha! You are too funny, Patrick. I want to thank you, Patrick, for bringing a smile to my face tonight. My mother had a Pfaff and loved it. When we moved to Germany in 1959, she swore to herself that she was going to come home with a Pfaff, something she wanted all her life. (Along with a large collection of Hummels, most of which I still have.) She had a custom table built for it and she taught me a thing or two about sewing, something she did all the time, sewing many of her clothes. I probably knew Pfaff before I had ever heard of Singer! Her 100th birthday passed last week but, unfortunately, I lost her three years ago. I wish I knew what happened to that wonderful machine. Thank you, Patrick, for the warm memory you gave me. And, after the week you and Stuart have had, I hope you have that bar restocked by next weeks vlog! Tschuss! A bientot!
Hi there Michael. What a wonderful comment. I am so sorry you lost your mom 3 years ago. But your memories of her are wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing! 💖💕💖. I feel the same way about my granny Gerda! I went to her house every day after school. We did restock….. How did you know? 🤣. I’m so happy this episode triggered such lovely memories for you. Huge hug from us at Colombe and we will light a candle for your mom in our chapel. 😘🥰😘
Every time I join you to catch up on what you both are doing, I am reminded of how lovely and special you are. I love how you are not too dismayed by the sad set back with the sudden loss to the integrity of the old roof, and instead you pivot to the wonderful discovery of the ancient bread oven! Thank you too for the giggles. I look forward to seeing the restoration of the old plaster walls in the Chateau 🥰🤗❤️🇨🇦
Thank you so much Susan. We always try to see the glass as half full. And in any case, the glass can be refilled! 🤣😂🤣. Love your comment. Hugs from Colombe. 💕💖💕
Thank you so much. Yes, the roof is a shame. One weak spot and all that damage. Domino effect. We will see how we can get this addressed. Hugs from Colombe. 🥰🥰
Love your attitude to life, the roof fell in but noone was hurt.....you are not likely to die from anxiety. I am sure you are about to be inundated with gifts of fabric. Good to hear the farmhouse is moving on when can we see it? Love the music this week.
So sad about the roof I hope it doesn’t rain 🤞. Can you seek out a scaffold for inside it and do an emergency repair till a roofer can fix. Not that I know anything about this. On a brighter note I enjoyed the Brocanting and the copper you bought also the bread oven find. Spirits up guys you’re doing amazing work ❤️
Thank you for your kindness Ivy. There are some wonderful things happening! Completely unexpected and so humbling! Love that you enjoyed the episode and copper, etc. 🥰. I am looking forward to the next episode myself! Hugs from us at Colombe. 💕😘💕
You looked like a couple of thieves stealing from a chateau to take to your more humble abode, LOL! (Especially viewing it in time-lapse!) Did you have to move that couch/chaise in through the window?!! You're getting so much done, so I hope you are okay with knowing it's a long-term project - it's going to be so special! Love the bread oven find. Maybe you should invest in a cherry-picker so you can repair the roof yourselves (may be worth having for any future (hopefully minor) repairs, and may pay for itself if roofers are pricey like they are in North America! Keep your sense of humour!
😂. That is so true. We looked like thieves. Too funny. Yes, couch was through the window. Was just easier. The bread oven was a big surprise. A positive one. We are looking for a cherry picker. We need that for many projects including our trees! Roofs. With terra cotta tiles being more expensive, a good size roof is about $50,000 here. So yes! 👍🏻👍🏻. Thank you so much for your comment. Hugs. 🥰🥰💖
Ahh guys so sorry to hear about the roof, I really hope you both can get a roofer to help repair it soon. In the end Patrick it is true, they are only things. However your plan is restoration and preservation. Please someone help those lovely new comers to France. On the upside, you did manage to get some lovely copper and I look forward to seeing delicious recipes in those dessert pans. Maybe we can get to meet your mom's cousin. Extra help is much appreciated I am sure. The world is crazy lately. Heat everywhere except Newfoundland. There are fires in Spain, China is in heat alert and the Lavoire(?spelling) River is drying up to name a few disasters but like both of you I count my blessings here in Surrey. Our clothes drying is on the brink and I told my husband Pat. His reply was buy a clothesline. I am not allowed to tell you on here what I said back to him but just use you imagination. Between us though I think I will get a new dryer if it can't be repaired but I will also get a clothesline and make Pat carry the clothes basket in and out. LOL! Nothing against clotheslines but I grew up in Labrador and it was not an easy feat when the washer was in the basement and the clothesline stand also had stairs. Oh my poor mother! May she RIP. She never complained but I do for her still. LOL. I laughed so much with you two today. Wish I could be there to help. God knows I hung a lot of wallpaper and took it down and put on more in the summers in the 80's! When you were talking about your grand mother's chair a song came to mind. ROCKING CHAIR, ROCKING BABY etc. Cute story though. Keep the vlogs a coming! Sounds like your getting over that summer flu. Cheers and best wishes.
Thank you, Peter!! Great stories! We love hearing it. 💕💕 Some volunteers don't like to be on camera, so that is why you don't see them. As always, thank you for watching! 😍😍
Hi Peter. Thank you so much. The roof was a real bummer. We didn’t need that. But yes, we got some nice copper. The weather worldwide is crazy. Now I don’t have a dryer here. Always used one in the USA. I have a drying room in one of the wings. 😳. I can imagine your reply though! 😂 I can relate to your memories of your mom. My grannies and my mom did the same thing.
Wallpaper and the 80s……. Oh yes! I remember that too. And many patterns were not good. 😂🤣😂. Frauke doesn’t want to be filmed. Never liked it. But we have 2 rooms with our wallpaper. And the paper here was from 1986. Help makes such a difference! Thank you so very much fir your comment Huge hugs to you and Pat too 😚🥰😘
Oh my gosh guys, what a couple of weeks you both have had. I mean really ! Stephanie said it best...." When you live in a chateaux, every day has the potential for disaster, it just goes with the experience. " So you just keep pushing forward and looking on the positive side. I so enjoyed this video. I feel when I watch you're channel I am connecting with two friends I've known forever. It's very rare to have that. I hope to visit sometime in the future and help out with things. Sending you so much love and hugs from the San Francisco Bay Area ! 💖🌴🌆🌉🌉🌆🌴❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My dear Matt. Thank you very much. So very kind of you. It is true that we expected something. Just not this. Not now 😂😭😂. And we are pushing forward! Isn’t it amazing how we can connect with people through this medium who we haven’t met? I feel the same way. We will be so happy to welcome you here one day. Huge hugs from us here at Colombe. 😘🥰😘
When dealing with old, it’s guaranteed that you will have these shocks and annoying things happen. I’m dealing with a 100 plus year old cottage on the coast of Maine and 40 yrs later I still get surprises, but I still love her!
So sorry about the fruit tree though I’ve no idea what that is. Perhaps a net on a portion of the tree to keep the critters out. Also I’m sad with you on the roof. If you’re not afraid to get up there perhaps a tarpaulin much larger than the hole . Since there are is no wood to secure it do you could do what I saw in the movie the secret of roan nish (sp?). After grass was layered on the roof they took ropes , the cuttings of the rope pieces need to be the length of both sides of the roof and down the walls, then tie heavy stones at each end. Depending on how many you do I think it would get you through some rains. The sewing machine-we have a Singer and. Other machine which I forget how to spell it (comes with old age!!!) anyway the P is silent. Good on you for sewing for the first time. If Stephanie can do it I know you can. She did use a lot of helps from the sewing store in order to get the pleats straight and lovely looking. There are patterns also at the sewing center for any cornice or swags. Etc. best of luck!
Hi there KitKat. Nets are a good idea. Thank you. I wish we didn’t have the flue. Now, the roof……. It was really depressing. We have some news tomorrow. I think you are going to appreciate it. Thank you for the encouragement about sewing. I was nervous but the curtains turned out perfectly. I love that it was my granny’s ! Made it even more special.
Sorry to hear about the problems of the week and I hope you find someone to at least cover the roof . I think it is fantastic that you have your grandmothers sewing machine and other things that you have put in the gite. It certainly does make it special
Hi there. Thank you. So kind of you so say. It brought back great memories! That sewing machine is wonderful. 🥰. We are having a bad downpour right now but we might have some expert help tomorrow. 👍🏻💕👍🏻. The gîte is hopefully going to be amazing. Hugs from us at Colombe. 💖💖💖
Hi Maxine. Yes, we are in contact with them, so I will ask for their roofer. They live only 15 min away from us. Hopefully he can do the same for us. Thank you. Hugs. 🥰
I feel so bad about your roof but Thank God nobody was standing under there when it fell. Patrick, you look like you know what you are doing with those fabulous curtains. Love them and can not wait to see them up somewhere.
Thank you Helene. No one hurt (yes it is very depressing but we will deal with it), but that is the main thing. Thank you. It came back to me how to sew and use the machine. It was fun! Hugs from us. 💖
So sorry you got the flue and could pick the fruit. You did make the critters very happy. I enjoyed the brocante browsing very much. The bread oven is an amazing find! I enjoyed the video! Love from Vermont
Hi Rebekah. Much love to you in Vermont. Our birds and other critters just ate all the grapes (that is perfectly fine), so they better be really happy 😂🤣😂. The oven was such a surprise. And the Brocante was so much fun. Hugs from Colombe. 🥰
Hi guys, I’m so sorry for the roof collapse, glad no one was hurt. Also, sorry about the plums . That must have been a huge disappointment . Next year it will be better! I love the curtains!! I watch your vlogs more than once, I just love your guys’ energy! Tammy in Cali ❤️
Hello darling Tammy. It was very frustrating! But some wonderful things came out of it for us. Next weeks vlog! I will start to make blackberry jelly. Those we have tons of. I’ll try one with grated ginger in it. The curtains are so pretty and it came back to me! Yay. Huge hugs and much love from us at Colombe. 🥰😘🥰
Bon courage the roofer in August are on holiday vacation so sad that happened this month ! August in France is a disaster nothing is open I been there that way I move to the USA I love your courage
Thank you Danielle. That was absolutely bad timing. 😭😡🤯. I loved my 22 years in the US. It is amazing that so many companies are closed. We hope we will have good news in the next week. Hope you have as many wonderful experiences in the US as I had. Huge hugs from Colombe. 😘🥰😘
Once again a most enjoyable and informative vlog. Your humor is infectious, just the look on Stuart's face can give me a case of the giggles! I was sorry to hear about your battle with the flu 🤧😷, happy to see you are both back on your feet 🐾👍. Looking forward to following you along on your continued renovations and discoveries. Best wishes😘!!
Hi Carol. Thank you. Great comment. Stuart makes me laugh too. It’s wonderful. We are back and it feels good not to feel slow. Glad you are on the journey with us. Hugs from Colombe 😘🥰😘
What a rollercoaster ride you’re having! As you said nobody got hurt and that’s what counts. I enjoy your vlogs and the banter. You always manage to make me smile and I thank you for that. Keep going and the journey will have a long and winding road but you’ll get there in the end. Glad you two are still smiling 😁
Hi Roz. Thank you so much for your comment. 💕😍💕. I’m happy we can make you smile! What a lovely compliment. We will keep moving forward. Huge hugs from Colombe. 😘🥰😘
Thank you Diane. Glad you like the hair. I have my moments, when I am ready to cut it. I had it long 20+ years and this phase is difficult 😳🤪🤣. Love your support. Hugs. 💖😘💖
I'm very glad you are giving yourselves some mercy as things happen beyond your control. It always will and so you prepare the best you can. I am wondering if you are keeping a garden journal so next year you can prepare for when your fruits come into season? Chins up fellas. You're doing a great job. Remember, to everything there is a season...you are blessed from GA.
Hello there. I love your comment and it means a lot to us. 🥰😘🥰. I am making notes in the computer calendar. Hope I remember. 😂🤪😂. I appreciate the reminder. Much love and big hugs to you in GA from Colombe. 💖💕💖
I just love your attitude - things are old and should look old and things happen no need to cry over it - just get it done. Although sewing can be daunting the outcome must be so pleasing. LOVE the bread oven - this could be very fun! Time to bake bread for the village. 😉 You boys are on a roll and making things happen although you had some sick time (glad you are better). Tres Bien!
Hello my dear Lisa. Miss you in the live chats. Thank you so much. We have our moments but then try to find solutions. Can’t undo the damage but we need to repair it. The oven was such a surprise. We’ll open it after the guests are gone. Huge hugs to you. 😘🥰😘
high light of the week, seeing you two dahrlings. Hope you are better from the summer flu and good luck with the roof. Our little house in Pretoria, South Africa is 100 years old with challenges. You two have sooooo much courage to fix a Chateux. Lovely to share the journey.
Hi Renee. How is Pretoria? Thank you so much for your comment. 🥰💕🥰. Much better and we will get the roof redone. A setback but no defeat. I love the colonial homes in ZA. Fantastic but yes, challenges, sure but amazing. Thank you for being on the journey with us. 💖😘💖
Get a BIG waterproof tarp and secure it to the roof covering the gaping holes until you can get it repaired and dry again. EASY. It won't look pretty but will do the job.
Yes, that’s all I can think of too - since you can’t really nail on a temporary repair to a tile roof. Might need some futzing to keep it in position during any weather, of course... 🍀
The roof, Carol, was one of those things that we really didn’t need right now. 😡😵💫. But some good things came out of it. That’s for the next episode! Now, the curtains made me so happy and I’m confident I’ll make many more and they’ll look great. Huge hug from us. 🥰💖
These old houses throw you a curve ball from time to time, but no one’s hurt you knew it wasn’t going to be easy, so add it to the “to do list” have a sip of wine and carry on. Your doing a great job both of you, plus it gives you vlog content xx 🤣
2 steps forward, 3 steps back sometimes, but it's all good, shame about the roof, but the find of the bread oven is fabulous, looking forward to when you decide to explore that more and reveal what's inside the fireplace.
Yes, the positive was the bread oven and after Christmas time, when we don’t expect anyone, we will open that walk and hope to find a functioning door……. And we will film that. So exciting. Thank you for your comment. Love it. 🥰😘🥰
Hi guys. So sorry to see the roof collapse. But I am glad that you are trying to address the problem. Like everywhere else, anyone in the trades is so busy. All you can do if you cannot find someone is to temporarily tarp. No getting up there yourselves. However I love your attitude. Humour which is the best medicine. Also thanks for showing one of the pup pups. Made my day. Have a good week.
Hi Roseann. We started to ask around and we might end up renting a cherry picker……. But we have some time before winter. Thank goodness. Everyone in the trades is booked the and shut downs created such a bottle neck. Same goes for supplies. We try to keep our spirits up and laugh. Huge hug to you. 🥰
Sympathy for roof collapse.😱 Thank you for filming the shop's wares. It's fun to see all the treasures I could purchase if only I could be there. (Snicker) And there isn't really any such the thing as perfect. what's perfect for whatshername may not ne perfect for whatshisname. There is only perfectly imperfect. 😉 Good luck with roof!
Thank you so very much. Love it. Perfectly imperfect. So true. I have started to ask around for a roofer. That is a skill I do not have. Huge hugs to you. 😘🥰😘
Hi Patrick and Stuart, sorry I missed the premiere tonight, we have family visiting at the moment. Terrible news about the roof and yes all the roofers around here are booked out for around 9 months, we have to wait until early next year to get our next section of roof renewed, I think you may have to put a tarpaulin( un bache) over it for now. What a beautiful fabric you used for the curtains for your gite, I am looking forward to seeing it finished. That thing above the bread oven, is it fixed or just stored there? I couldn't see properly but thought it might be an old dough bin, like a big trough they mixed the dough in.
Thank you so very much. I will have to double my efforts to find a cherry picker to get a tarp up. It’s a bit discouraging to be honest. The farm is coming along great. Thanks, I’m happy you like the fabric. The trough is fixed on the wall but I think you are right it was put up there later and is indeed for dough. Hugs and thank you again.
Just got back from a three week trip in Germany and Norway. Checked out my garden and my Mirabeau bush has 10 fruits on it, I was so exited, not making jam this year but hopefully eating the fruit, maybe I should cover it just in case the birds get them. I do live in the north of England so hoping they have never seen them before and therefore might be suspicious...Interesting find of the bread oven.
What a lovely trip you must have had. 😍. I’d definitely cover them! I was so excited to make jam. Well, I still will make blackberry jelly. Some with ginger and I hope for a lot of fig marmalade and chutney. Birds are so smart……. They’ll eat them regardless (that is my guess but I sometimes had the same thought. Thank you so much for your comment. Hugs from Colombe. 🥰😘🥰
Hi there. The porcelain baking dishes have been around in France more than a century before IKEA was even thought about. IKEA’s is earth-ware, the one we bought is porcelain. Just because you saw one doesn’t mean there is not a bigger world out there. Not a smart comment. Looking things up makes a big difference. See you next week!
Hi guys, Bonjour!! New subscribers here and I’m excited to watch your journey restoring the Château to it’s former glory. It’s so beautiful!! Have a great week!!
Trough on the bread oven....... goats. Great place to keep the goats warm in winter. We always ysed to feed our goats on the oven.. ( goat called Didgameaweewhack. Tru story)
Interesting to read that your property is in the Berry..where my house of many yrs on the Canal Lateral du Loire called Marseilles les Aubigny Still is there directly on the canal with our garden directly on the Loire interesting old Port with many pleasure boats passing daily. All the best enjoy it all it’s worth it!
You keep saying we don't want to see Patrick plastering or pulling weeds...but WE DO! 😂 We want to see the progress no matter how small or mundane (at least photos if not video) so that we are connected to what you are doing there and how things are progressing.
That is such a great comment Seelie. Thank you. Input is so very important. I will make a point of not forgetting to film my progress……. Love the comment. Truly. Hugs from me. 🥰😘🥰
Hi Janet. That is such a kind and wonderful comment. Thank you so much. 💖💗💖. We loved the print immediately but I wouldn’t have been brave enough to buy it. Stuart made the call and I am so happy. 🥰😘🥰. We didn’t have much rain and now we are having a thunderstorm……. Oh well. Good night and hugs.
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 ,Hello Patrick,I’ve lived in the Netherlands for 46 years😳and wouldn’t want to go back to the uk now. It was certainly difficult to start with not knowing the language, nowadays in A’dam you only hear English ! In those days it was very different. Now I speak Dutch and a tiny bit of German, enough to ask for a beer😉.it’s lovely to see you guys enjoying life at the château and finding treasures to restore. I’m envious of the amount of land you have, you know how tiny Holland is……thankyou for letting us all into your life And sharing all the adventures. Love to you both 👋🙂💖 I
I love the curtain material. It is beautiful. I can imagine a room being decorated around it's beautiful artistry. I think you're selling skills are very much up to p a r Patrick. Sewing is more like riding a bike. I personally am a quilter. I find sewing relaxing. I just don't have any time for it for a while, other projects must come first. We didn't get to see the chairs you bought yet, I hope that's coming up soon. Well fellas, you have a wonderful week and we will talk again. God bless you and yours. Love, jenwhite
Thank you, Jennifer! We had photos of the chairs and copper items but they were left out of the video. You can see them now on our community page. Take care! 💕
Hello there Jennifer. How are you? We fell in love with the blue print. I will finish sanding the walls of the bedroom in the farmhouse today. Painting and decorating is fun. It really came back to me, the sewing memories. That was great. 👍🏻🤩👍🏻. Quilting is amazing. I am a total admirer but do not have the patience. I just love it quilts. Be blessed and much love from us. 🥰😘🥰
Patrick, I am getting better. I was out yesterday with Tom working on our roses. We are putting in a drip system. Or rather he is. I just spend time with him. Sunday we cook and relax a bit. Tom want to finish the outdoor Mexican clay art wall. I found a beautiful blue Talavera plate and some colorful clay pots on a rope. Nice to complete a project. God bless you and yours. Love, jenwhite 🥰
Wow that was a tremendous storm to finish off that roof weak spot. Just cover it with plastic til you can get it fixed. It's all fixable and like you said no one was hurt. If I could be there to help I would. Two bread ovens is incredible. So many discoveries to go. I'm excited for you boys. Yummy bread for all who show up. Bread cheese wine good honest friends lovely history all around us...and all pups welcome.... theres no more a heart can stand without bursting
If we cannot find a roofer, we will have to rent a cherry picker and do it ourselves. The roof is 3 stories tall. We’d love to have a few more helpers. Thank you so much. And the dogs are safe. Love your comment. 😘
We will overcome this, you are right, we just didn’t need the added time we have to spend 😳🤪😳. Oh well. The bread oven is behind drywall in the fireplace and we have to wait till late winter to open that up. All has to be redone before next years rental season. Thank you and hugs. 🥰
Some of my neighbours have lived with tarp over the roof for 5 years, its just need to cheched once in a while for damp or need of repair. It is so expensive these days to build, so I would wait for a good offer/better times
Great update on the happenings at your chateau! It may seem as if you’re taking two steps forward and one step back but just call that “dancing” and keep your delightful senses of humor. You are a joy! Hugs from Ginny in Georgia. P.S. We hang old CD’s from strings in our fig tree (and around our vegetable garden) and when they twirl and catch the light, it scares the birds away. The birds get the figs at the top and we get the figs at the bottom. 🥰🥰🥰
I love your comment. Yes, it’s a dance. Love the comparison. Ginny, I might buy some CDs. Great ideas. The birds are already in the fig tree. 😡😡😡. I will share with the birds but it has to be sharing! 😂. Thank you so much. Hugs. 😘
So exciting to find the bread oven!!!!!! A great winter project and oodles of pizza and bread in your future! Such a jewel for the farmhouse!!! Sorry about the loss of your fruit but like you said, live and learn! Next year, the birds will get the 10 per cent you leave for them! Sewing curtains is old hat to me......you'll get there! Carry on and keep enjoying your discoveries! Cheers!
Have you heard about cleaning copper with ketchup? Copper reacts to air by developing a layer of copper oxide, which causes it to look tarnished. Copper oxide dissolves in a mixture of weak acid and table salt, both of which are found in ketchup. Slather the ketchup onto your copper-bottomed pots and leave it on for as long as you can. Then wipe and rinse. (By the way, you get the same result with lemon juice plus salt. Great finds but sorry to hear about the roof.
Hi Claudette. Thank you so much for the tip! I love home remedies instead of chemicals and I didn’t know!!! 😳💗💗💗. I will try that soon and am so excited. 😘. Hugs. 💖😘💖
The trough is for mixing, kneeding and proving the dough prior to cooking the bread. It was probably put there for safe keeping. Only seen smaller household ones not a large one like that to feed all the farm labourers.
Lovely as always! ❤ Sorry about the roof, but thank goodness nobody was standing underneath it. And you’re right, Patrick… Stuff. I’m sure there will be plenty more surprises along the way. You wouldn’t want to get bored. 😅😅😅 Looks like you’re going to need to open up that fireplace in the farmhouse. I wonder what else you will find behind the wall. Check out Nicki Position’s vlog from yesterday where they showed hidden fireplace discoveries from @TheGreatChateau. Cheers! ❤❤❤
Hi Jason. How is your renovation going? Hope all is well. It was such a depressing situation. I was late picking up my mom’s cousin Frauke. Well, 20 minutes but still. Something nice hase come out of it for the next vlog. 🥰. You are right, it won’t be the last surprise. After my parent leave in January, if we have time, we might open the wall. The second bread oven (it was the first) still has the iron door in it (someone put cement on top………). I’ll look them up. Thank you so much. As always, love your comment! Hugs from us in Colombe. 💖🥰💖
Guys love your talks, but is it possible to see you at work as well more. Are you going to share your grandma’s chair with us, love to see also all the furniture in place to, you probably got this planned already, so maybe I should learn to be patient. Please take care, best wishes always from Australia.x
That no one got hurt is the most important part.
There is a UA-cam channel called “Carl Rogers” he and his father retiled their French farm buildings to a masterful finish. I have no idea of proximity (as I sit in my Calgary office LOL), but these gentlemen may have sources, resources or advice. Their work was a thing of beauty.
I’ll look them up. Thank you so much. 😘
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 you are most welcome!
They are talented craftsmen
Carl and his Dad are amazing, they are in the south of France near the Pyrenees, they use different tiles, but the principle is the same.
Good luck with that roof ☔
Patrick you have such an infectious laugh
@@cliffhorman6846 have fun skiing after you get everyone together! 🥰
Great find on the bread oven . Hope you got a roofer quick, was lucky noone was walking by thank heavens you are all safe x
Maybe consider getting some nets for your fruit trees next year they aren't very expensive.
Good idea! 💕
Of course we want to see more, and more, and more. I’m in it for the long haul. Best wishes from SC.
Hi Joanne. You rock. Thank you so much. Hugs and kisses from Colombe. 💗💕💗
So agree with you Joanne
Bread oven . first thought. . Pizza parties. 🍕 🍕 🍕 🍕 🍕
Lots of work but much more satisfaction.😍Thank you.

Thank you for the tip. Love it. And stage costumes? Amazing. Love it. Hugs. 💕👍🏻💕

Thank you Jacqui. I love this machine too, especially since it was tuned up. Keep on sewing……. I surely will as well. Hugs to you. 😘🥰😘
Thanks!
I second Stuart’s comment. Thank you so much for your kindness. Hugs.
Ugh, the roof!! So sad to hear about that. You both will get it taken care of. I can’t wait to see the farm house with your treasures in it!
Hi Allyson. The farm house will be very nice but I think it’s so different next year with more time. Roof, yes we will get it repaired. Thank you. Hugs. 😘
Such dedication! Very interesting. Im Enjoying your journey so much!

Hugs. 💖💕💖
I just love your find of the bread oven, so exciting.
Sorry for the roof collapse but it can be repaired and your adventure continues.

I need three of those metal boxes. One for a boy and two for girls. But a trip to France 🇫🇷 to purchase them is a bit out of the question!
Yes, the window was bigger than the door and hallway, so it was much easier for the sofa! Thank you! ❤️
Hugs. 🥰🥰💖
The fabric is beautiful. I love bold patterns
Hi Nadean. Thank you so much. It is pretty! Hope it looks great in the room. Hugs my dear. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Keep the
vlogs a coming! Sounds like your getting over that summer flu.
Cheers and best wishes.

I can relate to your memories of your mom.

When dealing with old, it’s guaranteed that you will have these shocks and annoying things happen. I’m dealing with a 100 plus year old cottage on the coast of Maine and 40 yrs later I still get surprises, but I still love her!
That is so true. That’s why we are passionate about them. Never boring. But it was bad timing. Hugs. 😘💕😘

Thank you Diane. Glad you like the hair. I have my moments, when I am ready to cut it. I had it long 20+ years and this phase is difficult 😳🤪🤣. Love your support. Hugs. 💖😘💖
Hey Y'all, from North Carolina, USA.
Hi there from France. How are you doing? Be safe. 💖💗💖
Yes, we now know that by August 1, we need to have those plums harvested! Thank you! 🥰
The roof is 3 stories tall. We had the same idea…….. but how do we get it up to the top? 🤪😳🤪
Patrick Journey to the Chateau Time for a cherry picker! 😀
Happy belated birthday. Finally got caught up on the blogs. Love seeing all the progress.
Thank you!! 😊
Thank you Lynn. We are making progress. Yay. 😍. Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. Huge hugs from Colombe. 😘🥰😘
Hay Patrick and Stuart you guys are handsome and can sew yay. Great show today .🇨🇦
Thank you so much. You are very kind. 😘👍🏻😘
It's a shame about the roof a little bit more work to do ,the curtains look lovely x💕🌼🌼🤗
The roof, Carol, was one of those things that we really didn’t need right now. 😡😵💫. But some good things came out of it. That’s for the next episode! Now, the curtains made me so happy and I’m confident I’ll make many more and they’ll look great. Huge hug from us. 🥰💖
So glad hear that the roof didn't put too much of a downer on things have a great weekend both of you x💕🌼🌼🤗
These old houses throw you a curve ball from time to time, but no one’s hurt you knew it wasn’t going to be easy, so add it to the “to do list” have a sip of wine and carry on. Your doing a great job both of you, plus it gives you vlog content xx 🤣
🤪😂. To do list it is. It would be easier, if the roofers weren’t so completely booked. But we’ll get through this too! Hugs from Colombe. 💕💖💕
2 steps forward, 3 steps back sometimes, but it's all good, shame about the roof, but the find of the bread oven is fabulous, looking forward to when you decide to explore that more and reveal what's inside the fireplace.
Thank you, Susanne! 💕
Patrick you’re funny. Enjoy listening to you. And Stuart.
Catherine, you are so kind. Thank you for the encouragement. Means a lot to have such motivational com. Hugs.
Sympathy for roof collapse.😱
Thank you for filming the shop's wares. It's fun to see all the treasures I could purchase if only I could be there. (Snicker)
And there isn't really any such the thing as perfect. what's perfect for whatshername may not ne perfect for whatshisname. There is only perfectly imperfect. 😉
Good luck with roof!
Thank you so very much. Love it. Perfectly imperfect. So true. I have started to ask around for a roofer. That is a skill I do not have. Huge hugs to you. 😘🥰😘
We can see what kind of week you’ve had by the levels in the whiskey bottles behind you. 😉
🤣😂🤣. I see……. We need a less telling location. 🤣🤣🤣. What a great comment. Love it. Hugs from Colombe. 😘😘😘
As long as you aren't moving to another château all is fine 😉 ...!!! Can't wait for the next adventure 🌹🍾💝 Much love Arsen 🌬🌬🌬
No way! But it was a tough week. Hope things will be better next week 💖🍾💖
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 💗💗💗
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I have emailed you x
The tart pan on the left is ikea-I have one.
It says it is Tradition bakeware from France.
Thank you, Pam! 😀
Immediately get some sort of tarp for the rooftop.
We will try. The barn is 3 stories tall……. But we will get something done and it looks like we will get help soon……. 😘🥰😘. Hugs.
So sorry about the roof. Always enjoy your updates. Don't you just love Emaus!!! There always seems bargains to be found 😊😊
Thank you Marilyn. The roof was a terrible surprise. But as you said, Emmaus had some lovely bargains for us. Hugs from Colombe. 🥰🥰🥰
Trough on the bread oven....... goats. Great place to keep the goats warm in winter. We always ysed to feed our goats on the oven.. ( goat called Didgameaweewhack. Tru story)
🥰🤣🥰. Great name. Love it
That is a great possibility
Interesting to read that your property is in the Berry..where my house of many yrs on the Canal Lateral du Loire called Marseilles les Aubigny Still is there directly on the canal with our garden directly on the Loire interesting old Port with many pleasure boats passing daily. All the best enjoy it all it’s worth it!
Your house sounds amazing! Great comment. Thank you. 💗👍🏻💗
Another super vlog from you both……beautiful curtain material …..fingers crossed that the rain holds off. Best wishes from Holland
(ex pat 🇬🇧) 🙂👋
How does life in the NL suit you?
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 ,Hello Patrick,I’ve lived in the Netherlands for 46 years😳and wouldn’t want to go back to the uk now.
It was certainly difficult to start with not knowing the language, nowadays in A’dam you only hear English ! In those days it was very different.
Now I speak Dutch and a tiny bit of German, enough to ask for a beer😉.it’s lovely to see you guys enjoying life at the château and finding treasures to restore. I’m envious of the amount of land you have, you know how tiny Holland is……thankyou for letting us all into your life
And sharing all the adventures.
Love to you both 👋🙂💖
I
I love the curtain material.
Always enjoy you posts. Ever thought about drone footage? I think your property would look great from above.
Thanks, Richard. Yes, we have included drone footage in previous vlogs. 👍👍
Well the roof is an unexpected situation. one that I am sure the two of you can overcome. can't wait to see the bread oven from inside the farmhouse!
Thank you Karen. Good input! Hugs.
Thank you, Ginny! 💕
Cheers!
Hi Jill. Thank you so much. The bread oven was such a wonderful surprise. Sewing the curtains was fun and they look amazing. Very happy. 👍🏻💖👍🏻
Hello from Pennsylvania U S A
Hi Dianne. How is PA doing? Hope all is well. Hugs.
Love the drapes🥰
Thank you so much. Love your comment. 🥰
Yes, we have heard this! Thank you, Claudette.
Hi Claudette. Thank you so much for the tip! I love home remedies instead of chemicals and I didn’t know!!! 😳💗💗💗. I will try that soon and am so excited. 😘. Hugs. 💖😘💖
I wanted to see the interior of the house u took furniture into!
Once it is ready, we will do an episode about it with "before" and "after" video.
@@JourneytotheChateau fabulous! X
may not be a trough. Saw something like it in museum related to bread making.
The trough is for mixing, kneeding and proving the dough prior to cooking the bread. It was probably put there for safe keeping. Only seen smaller household ones not a large one like that to feed all the farm labourers.
Ok, that’s interesting. How and who got up there. More investigations needed. Thank you so much. Love it. 🥰
Lovely as always! ❤ Sorry about the roof, but thank goodness nobody was standing underneath it. And you’re right, Patrick… Stuff. I’m sure there will be plenty more surprises along the way. You wouldn’t want to get bored. 😅😅😅
Looks like you’re going to need to open up that fireplace in the farmhouse.
Yes it is all planned. Thank Yvonne.
