This is a late comment, but I have always wanted to learn Japanese and your videos got me back in the spirit now that I have a goal in mind: I want to study Japanese for the next few years (I want to be fluent in it), and by the time I can speak nicely in it, I'll have my college degree where I can take a gap year to head over and teach! Thank you for re-inspiring me. I'm already getting the hang of typing using ひりがな! haha

Lydia Smith aw thank you! it's like america, you can get an apartment furnished or unfurnished... but in the case of JETs/ALTs who are in and out of the same apartment, it's usually somewhat furnished from previous people.
I've had a few friends do the JET program and it is really something I want to do. However there is one question I have for you - How did you manage to get an apartment so BIG!?!?!? None of my friends/teachers/or any other people on youtube (that I have seen) have had anything other than a studio apartment while a part of the JET program. Is there a particular reason you have such a big apartment? Is it to do with where you are?
Charlie - Chan well, i didn't choose my apartment and i would say that in general, no JETs do. we are placed in the apartments of our predecessors, so it's left completely up to chance. the reason my apartment is big is because somehow, at some point, someone decided that this is where the ALT will live. i think it's more so about availability/location/convenience in my case as opposed to what the actual apartment is like inside. i live in inaka (countryside) teacher's housing that's meant for families. i've seen some JETs in even more rural areas live in 2-story houses!
